Welcome to our channel in today's video we want  to talk about some travel tips for Lisbon having   taken a fun trip to Lisbon which was absolutely  amazing we wanted to provide you with some   insiders travel tips so no matter what you do  you can be sure you will have a fantastic time   in Lisbon as we did however to make the best of  your trip we put together a list of travel tips   to help you plan your trip to Lisbon this will  save you time money and space and hassle we'll   be showing you how to navigate around the city  saving some time by skipping those queues where   the best location for your hotel is and a bunch  of other travel tip ideas so let's get started number one hotels Lisbon is divided into various  districts each with its own distinctive character   my tip will be to stay in the Baixa District as  it is easy to get to all of the other districts   in Lisbon such as our Alfama Belem and Sintra  Baixa district is the center of Lisbon and   that's where your five most landmarks and touristy  places this area also offers a wide selection of   restaurants cafes bars and shops it's a vibrant  neighborhood full of locals and tourists in a   Baixa District you'll find Rua Augusta the Main  pedestrian street which links the city's two   main squares Rossio and Praco Do Commercio Rossio  square is where you'll find Rossio train station   and it is here where you will get the train to  Sintra or any other trips outside of Lisbon not   far from Rossio squares Praco Do Commercio also  known as Commerce Square Lisbon's main Square   nearby is Santa Justa Lift and landmark  elevator built in 1902 which leads on to   carmo convent ruins. A medieval church so in terms  of location Baixa district is fantastic you can't   beat it as everything is nearby we really loved  our location I also wanted to mention that public   transport in the Baixa district is excellent you  can get the E15 tram directly to Belem district   and tram 28 from here and not to forget that the  Metro provides connection to the airport staying   in the Baixa District means you will be the heart  of Lisbon that connects to all other districts [Music] number two consider buying a Lisbon card or a  Viva Viagem Card if you're planning to explore   this beautiful city you will most likely be using  public transport to get around and if you want to   make your travels in Lisbon easier you should  consider getting a Viva or a Lisbon card this   card will make your journey in this one more  comfortable convenient and less stressful let me   quickly tell you the difference let me start with  the Lisbon card if you are planning on visiting   many sites and museums that charge an entrance  fee you should consider taking the Lisbon card   the Lisbon card is entirely made for travelers it  will give you free and unlimited travel by public   transport including Sintra and Cascais discounted  and free access to a number of monuments sites and   museums plus many other offers the card is valid  for 24 48 or 72 hours so if you are planning on   visiting several of the attraction it gives you  access to it will save you a fair bit of money   and it will make a trip easy easier that having  been said if you don't want to visit the sites   you won't be worth the transport part of the card  is great but that alone is not worth the price of   the card check to see if the places you want to  visit in Lisbon are discounted or free with the   Lisbon card to see if this is your best option  the second option is buying the Viva Viagem card   which we did it's a rechargeable Transportation  ticket you can use the Viva card on buses trams   funicular operated by carris including tram 15 to  Belem tram 28 and Lisbon's three funiculars Gloria   Bica and Lavra you could also use it on Santa  Justa Lift you can buy this travel card in any   Metro Station Newspaper stand and ticket offices  at Major station in the Lisbon urban area and   top it up whenever you need it you can then either  choose to buy a 24 hour pass with different travel   options for a set price or you can add a cash  value to your card so our tip is that you plan   your trip decide what it is you want to see and  then decide which card is best for you think about   it before you purchase the card but hopefully  these two options will give you some ideas [Music] Number 3   walking tours finding your way around when you're  in new to an area can be challenging whenever we   go on holiday we try to take a free walking tour  this allows us to familiarize ourselves with the   area if you have time I would recommend taking  a free walking tour they're the best way to see   the main sites and connect with a local guide who  can answer all your questions it's a lovely way to   experience Lisbon there are several free walking  tours in Lisbon although they say it's free it's   about tipping them at the end of the walking tour  just be sure to tip at the end the tour guides you   may know a lot about the city you can get so much  more value for your money by taking the time to   get to know your guide and pick the brain a little  chances are they have some good ideas opinions and   insiders tips and if you have a question about  an area it's always nice to have a face-to-face   discussion rather than just whipping out your  phone and searching Google of course take the   time to enjoy the tour that the guide has planned  but in the downtime you have consider asking a   question or inquiring about that particular place  you wanted to check out there are no rules saying   you can't benefit from at all in personal ways  I would recommend starting with a general city   walking tour and if you like go into more depth  with Alfama and Belem walking tours [Music] Number four comfortable shoes wherever you go in  this one you will find Portuguese cobblestone on   the pavement every street you walk on is  cobblestone Portuguese cobblestone is one   of the great Portuguese Heritage a symbol of  the city of Lisbon its black and white pattern   stretches across the city and paves almost  every pedestrian pathway in town it's one of   these things that makes this city so pretty and  picturesque but it also makes it quite hard to   walk on while I am a huge fan of cobblestone  pavements and I love walking I am among the   first to admit they are not easy to walk on the  streets are old some of the Cobblestone Pavements   are uneven and when it rains the Cobblestone  Pavements are very slippery and it can be   quite difficult to walk on so make sure you wear  comfortable sturdy shoes with a grip on them even   locals don't wear heels Lisbon occupies several  steep hills revealing stunning viewpoints that's   why walking around the city can become quite  tiring so bring your most comfortable sturdy   shoes to the Portuguese capital nothing is more  fun than wandering for their narrow cobblestone   streets and being surprised by the city's charm so  remember flat and comfort is a way to go in Lisbon Number 5 Trams there's no other image that is more  associated with Lisbon than the antique trams that   Rattle and Screech through the narrow streets of  Lisbon these trams are antiques taking people up   and down Lisbons hilly and medieval street since  the 1930s Tram 28 is especially popular with   tourists as it goes through several of Lisbon's  most popular sites riding tram 28 is not only a   great way to see the city but also a great way to  see as much as possible for very little money tram   28 takes a circular route around the city and  will also save your legs from a lot of walking   the downside is that everybody wants to ride Tram  28 including us the queues are long and Tram 28   gets very busy with tourists to the point where  you cannot get a seat to admire the views and   you end up standing in the carriage which is not  very enjoyable our tip to ensure you get a seat   to enjoy the views board the tram at Martin Moniz  Square the beginning of the journey the starting   point in the Baixa district another tip to enjoy  it at its best get up early in the morning or late   evening to avoid the tourist crowds we took an  evening ride on Tram 28 it was perfect as we got a   seat on the tram and saw all the historical sites  plus the city's more relaxed not as busy as during   the day the perfect opportunity to stock at some  amazing viewpoints watching the sunset [Music]   Number six churches steep in history and ornate  style Lisbon churches are fascinating and the   majority of them are all free so be sure  to step inside when visiting Lisbon it was   impossible not to notice the numerous churches  in the city it seems like every corner we turned   we saw yet another church if the church doors  happened to be open we were certainly going to   step inside to take a look around while the  Lisbon Cathedral and the Carmo Convent have   modest entry fees virtually every other Church  in Lisbon is free and easy to enter that even   includes a stunning Church of Santa Maria  that is attached to the famous Jeronimos   Monastery which holds the tomb of Vasco Da  Gama among others is a beautiful church to   see that costs nothing another impressive  church to visit is the Church of Sao Roque   also known as a golden church when you look from  the outside there is nothing impressive about it   until you go inside it is truly magnificent and  very impressive it is one of the most exquisite   and decorative churches the interior is adorned  with oil paintings gold gildings painted scenes   and beautiful tile work it is totally free to  explore touring the Portuguese churches is a   must do in Lisbon next time you see a church pop  in you'll be pleasantly surprised by its beauty Number seven viewpoints don't go paying  entrance fees for historical sites in order   to gain spectacular views of Lisbon when you  can actually get them for free Lisbon is one   of the world's most scenic capitals thanks  to its seven hills which offer beautiful   views from the top Lisbon has plenty of amazing  viewpoints dotted around the city just waiting   to be explored that cost nothing and all the  viewpoints are just as amazing as each other   Viewpoints in Lisbon are called Miradouro if  you see a sign leading the way to Miradouro   it would be a good idea to follow where he goes  these viewpoints are in different areas of the   capital city they are perfect for catching the  sunset and getting breathtaking views of Lisbon   and the Tagus River so next time you see that sign  follow it for the most spectacular views of Lisbon [Music] Number eight Lisbon's neighbourhoods  Lisbon is home to many different neighbourhoods   each has its own exciting things to discover but  one of our favourite places to explore was Alfama   it's the oldest and most characterful District  of Lisbon Alfama is a joy to discover and it is   best explored by simply getting lost within the  wonderful alleys and side streets this is Lisbon   at his most traditional so my tip is to forget the  tourist map and navigate the back streets of Old   Town Alfama it is very easy to get lost in them  but if you have an adventurous spirit you'll love   it visit Alfama like stepping into a small village  where everywhere you turn is like a postcard   view the Alfama district is a beautiful maze of  cobblestone alleys cozy squares terracotta tiled   roofs tiny streets with traditional houses and  colourful balconies with hanging clothes lines and   potted plants Lisbon's oldest and most traditional  neighbourhood was untouched by the earthquake of   1755 and today you still hear the sounds of Fado  echoing through the alleys as you walk by [Music]   Number nine Santa Justa Lift. Santa Justa  Lift is a very popular tourist attraction   the lift takes you up to the viewing platform  for spectacular views of Lisbon however the   lift can only carry 20 people at a time so the  lines are exceedingly long you can easily be   queuing for 45 minutes to an hour to save money  and time you can actually skip the Queue at the   ticket price and access the viewing platform  for free follow the signs of Carmo Convent   Ruins which is only five minutes walk from  Santa Justa Lift there is a tiny street on   the right side of Carmo Convent Ruins that  lead you onto the same viewing platform of   Santa Justa Lift the views of the city from the  viewing platform are free but if you want to get   to the observation deck for an even better view  you can pay just 1.50 Euro and there's a small   spiral staircase up to the platform the view  of Lisbon from the observation deck is stunning [Music] Number 10 Pastesis De Belem it's one  of the most famous bakeries in the world known   for their delicious pasties de nata which is a  Portuguese egg custard tart it would be a shame   to visit Lisbon without ever tasting one of these  sweet treats today the cafe sells at least 20   000 custard tarts per day and attracts thousands  of visitors it's Lisbon's most popular attraction   on one of the most popular eateries in the world  so it's no wonder that queues built up outside   in peak season at the entrance of the store you  will usually find a huge queue but it moves quite   quickly as the workers are super efficient many  visitors do not know that the long queue that you   will usually see outside is actually for those  who want to take away the pastries if you want   to sit in just enter the door marked table service  and if the first room is full keep going as there   are many rooms you would definitely find a place  to sit the largest room seats 400 people [Music] Number Eleven   Triumph Arch it is impossible not to walk  through the Majestic Triumph Arch of Rua   Augusta this impressive arch represents a  monumental entrance to the city of Lisbon   somewhat of a hidden gem that not too many  people know about is at the top of the arch   is a viewing platform which you can access  take the elevator and the spiral staircase   to the top of the arch and admire the views  of the tagus river and Baixa neighbourhood   the viewing platform has magnificent 360  degree panoramic view of the Baixa District thank you for watching and don't forget  to subscribe like and comment [Music]
