okay so i i withdrew 200 euros 200 euros from an atm how how is that 500 usd how does what baby what the hell is a euronet [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so we've been in lisbon for a month now and we have made just so many mistakes this video is to help you guys avoid some of the mistakes we've made in lisbon if you're looking for a restaurant to eat at in lisbon take a look at the menu outside if it's mostly in english or even half english and there's pictures of food on the menu probably don't eat there it's definitely meant for tourists it's going to be an inflated dollar sign and the food's probably not going to be as good as you want look for menus that are almost entirely in portuguese look for menus where your entrees are 10 euros to 15 euros anything more than that it's either really high-end if that's what you want or it's meant for the tourists yeah avoid the places with all english signage [Music] this next tip isn't really lisbon specific it's actually kind of all of europe you're going to find atms all over the place euro net being a big brand and anytime you take out money they're going to ask you if you want the atm to convert it you don't their conversion is a scam decline the conversion it'll ask you again do you want to decline decline it a second time and let your bank handle the conversion i guarantee it'll be much better than what the atm is trying to give i like a lot [Music] behind me is the elevador descent adjusta and it is a beautiful lift created in the same style as the eiffel tower in paris there's a viewing platform up top that looks across the city it's legitimately rad but it costs like three to five euros to go up the elevator and there's always a line this is a tip from a like a cheap chubby lazy american there's a secret elevator behind it that will take you straight up plus a couple of stairs to the viewing platform no line no money so follow us i will show you how to get there [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh my god lisbon has stairs so many stairs [Music] so lisbon has a lot of hills and a lot of stairs and all the sidewalks are made out of limestones which get really slippery when it rains so if you're coming to visit bring your flats bring your running shoes leave the heels at home you will never be using them [Music] behind me is the arcoderua augusta which is a beautiful arch overlooking this square and into baicha but you can actually get up to the top where all those statues are for an amazing view of the river the commercial square and the rest of baicha it's about three euros and it's a bit of a hidden entrance but if you go through the arch and then make a right you'll see a little sign that says three euros and a door you pay you go up some very steep stairs and you end up with a beautiful view of the square when you're in lisbon and you want to grab a cup of coffee or maybe a pastry and a sandwich look around at your local parks there might be a kiosk in one of them these are great little places to grab a beer grab a coffee get something to drink they're usually pretty local and they're usually in some really beautiful places at viewpoints and beautiful parks sometimes right along the road lisbon is full of them so if you ever need that pick-me-up of a nice little espresso there's usually not one far away [Music] lisbon's restaurants and cafes all have bathrooms for their patrons to use but if you have to use a public bathroom there is a charge usually about 50 cents or so but it's very easy and they're all spotless as well [Music] if you're in lisbon and you're looking for something like a supermarket you're probably not going to really find it but if you need anything fruit food soup alcohol toilet paper shampoo whatever you can think of most likely one of your local mercados has it some of them only take cash some of them take cards some of them are very tiny some of them are very big but if you're looking to find something check your local mercados best place for we are currently waiting at a kiosk outside of the restaurant we want to eat dinner at tonight and this leads me to my tip of you cannot trust google maps google maps will tell you that a restaurant is open all day they're not the place we're trying to go to on google maps it says it opens at 12 p.m and closes at 12 a.m that is not true we just walked inside and got turned around because they don't open until 7. so if you look on google maps and you see that a restaurant is open for the entire day it's probably not they most likely close after lunch and open back up for them [Music] so this last tip is about transportation lisbon has an excellent metro system they've got street cars they've got buses the subway runs pretty often but if you're trying to get from point a to point b in the city and you've got a group larger than just one person you might want to look at just grabbing an uber the cost of an uber is extremely cheap in the city we've done five minute drives that were two euros we've done 20 minute drives that were six euros whereas every single ride per person on the metro is at least going to be a euro 50. so if you don't want to go up the stairs and you don't want to go up and down the hills and you're trying to get to where you're going go ahead and call yourself an uber definitely one of the best ways to get around the city other than walking [Music] so hopefully our mistakes and failures will help you guys plan your trip to lisbon if there are any tips that we've missed drop it in the comments below other than that like and subscribe [Music] [Music] you
