10mm vs .357 Magnum for Bear Protection in Alaska

[Music] [Music] hi all welcome back to Alaska ballistics this is Chuck today we have 10-millimeter Auto versus 357 Magnum and we are doing hard cast for bear protection out of each which one is going to give you better bear protection gonna penetrate deeper either will work if you hit it in the right spot that's not the issue but which one's gonna penetrate deeper that's what we're looking at of course we have the kkm barreled Glock model 40 with the 6.5 inch barrel and we have the Ruger GP 100 with the 6-inch barrel closest to we could find as you can see so first we're going to do 6 rounds each over the chronograph and then we'll do our bear skull penetration test which is a dinner plate and water drugs behind it the dinner plate to represent bone 10 millimeter versus 357 Magnum put what you think will win in the comments okay first we have ten millimeter the best millimeter for me here we go 13:08 1336 13 16 13 2013 14 5 boy that was a good box that one was actually loaded to spec so that was a good box and I am very happy about the way that perform 200 grain going about 50 to 55 feet per second faster than what the box set out of the six and a half inch kkm barrel now we have the Ruger GP 100 357 Magnum 180 grain let's see how it does 1180 - wow that's bad 12 66 well ninety well 33:13 44 and 1262 actually gonna shoot a few more just see if that's a fluke I think that first one was a fluke you might have gone across the coronagraph a little sideways but we'll count it anyway do a couple more 13:05 1263 1304 that's the three of three more so even with three extra shots and me being careful to make sure it's open very very straight of the gonna graph we're still 100 feet per second less than the box it means it's less powerful than the 10 millimeter on this case so which one you think a win the penetration test in the comments check out the add up comparison slide and then we'll do our dinner plates and water jokes so here is our add up slide as you can tell to the millimeter totally crushed all the numbers compared to the river GP 100 something about the lockup or maybe the cylinder gap in the cheapy 100 I just don't think it's gonna get what the box says that's a little disappointing as standard deviation is the worst I've seen on any cartridge that I've had on the channel I think as far as pistol cartridges or and gun cartridges are concerned so what will you think in the comments this week's shout-out goes to stuck case stuck case go look him up on YouTube he's got lots of 45 super stuff just like I do so go check him out stay tuned for the rest of the video all right let's see how we did [Music] okay so we shattered the dinner plate shot right through the middle of the jug top part of the jug there's that jug right there looks like it was taking a dive and hit right there it did not come out of the this jug so do we have a bullet in there yep it's down there in the bottom right there looting me there for a second let me pour this out and get it out for you so there's a 357 Magnum see right there the dinner plate really did a number on flattening it out and that's probably why I was diving it's probably tumbling or diving through so definitely a rough looking bullet right there but it did the dinner plate and for water jugs and that's kind of our minimum standard to be carrying it in bear country so definitely it meets the minimum 10 millimeter Glock bottle forty six point five inch kkm barrel let's see what it does at our plate and water jug test alright looks like it penetrate it right through let's see if it penetrated any more than 357 magnums [Music] as you can see we damaged the plate it shattered everywhere we hit about that center somewhere in here there's the bullet I guess that's the exit hole maybe it's an entry hole that's entry hole that's the exit from the first job second jug there jug fourth jug it did come out the back of the fourth jug there's a hole in the fifth jug so it did penetrate farther than 357 Magnum bullet it was hard for me to see to got it yeah let me get that bullet out for y'all all right here we go we got ten millimeter versus 357 Magnum there's our hard cast bullets right there ten millimeter made one jug farther than the 357 Magnum and just barely went into that fifth jug and the 357 Magnum only made it to the fourth so 10 millimeter wins on both the chronograph and the penetration I still wouldn't be uncomfortable I've been with friends fishing who were carrying a 357 Magnum 6-inch Smith & Wesson I still wouldn't be uncomfortable with a 357 Magnum if a buddy had it but I shoot the 10 millimeter so much better as far as accuracy and groups let me know if you want to see like a draw from holster and on a bear target with a timer with these two guns and a chest rig type timer holster that would be kind of awesome to see let me know if you want to see that on video put it in the comments but those there it is put in the comments what you think one but I think 10 millimeter is clear 10 millimeter beats 357 Magnum as far as bear protection goes god bless take care we will see you at the range Facebook patreon subscribe Star Instagram all that jazz will ask a ballistic signing out [Music] [Music] you
