greetings mother factors my name is Sam and today I'm hit told you all about certain doom not the apocalypse we've done that already and it's coming pretty soon anyway today I'm talking to you just about the franchise doom you know the one that broke new ground when it comes to video games I'm just notorious for its brutality in adrenaline-pumping gameplay cool yeah let's raise some hell Jesus but how do the Nine Inch Nails Smashing Pumpkins and t-pain come into this what is doom guy's real name and can I borrow that grappling hook from doom eternal Formica mutant it would really really help me out two out of three those questions are going to be answered so grab your PFD and chainsawed on some armor and prepare to deal out some carnage on evil incarnate any video evil demon sir possible demons a possible that what better on my head anyway this is 101 facts about doom number one nay this is not a video about the concept of death destruction or some other terrible fate this is about the media franchise created back in 1993 for ms-dos by John Carmack John Romero Adrian Carmack Kevin cloud and Tom Hall number two it's rumored that the game could have had a better name than that though some websites state that doom was originally going to be called the frankly better name attack of the attackers but this was changed because it was too silly things better number three the name doom itself though well we've got Tom Cruise to thank for that yeah bear with me here in the movie the color of money someone asked Tom what's inside his box which he opens reveal a pretty sweet pool cue and says doom yep according to programmer John Carmack that's where the name came from number four in case you didn't know doom 1 was a first-person 3d shooter where you play as a Space Marine who's a bit out of his depth as he worked his way through various levels set on the moon Mars and hell number 5 that space marine was and still is unnamed this marine would later be dubbed doom guy by fans and later the doom Slayer or the Slayer but more on him later number 6 however there was a canonical doom novel released in the mid 90s called knee-deep in the dead the same name as the first episode of the series which seems to give a name-dropper tag flin fly Taggert number seven let's start at the top then shall we development on this behemoth of gaming began in November of 1992 at its software in a dark of his building called sweet six six six number eight for some context it's software had just made Wolfenstein 3d which has now been dubbed the grandfather of 3d first-person industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails on the level II for em one held beneath on the ceiling of the secret passage you can see the bands logo there it is right there hey don't bite the hand that feeds if it makes sense number 15 speaking of 90s angst Smashing Pumpkins released a double album Mellon Collie and the infinite sadness in 1995 why do I mention that well it's good stuff for one but also the song where boys fear to tread you the sound effects of a rocket launcher and an explosion from the doomed games don't get me wrong they're really well-hidden but they're their number 16 while we said earlier that doom was a 3d shooter we sort of lined there a little bit because doom isn't actually 3d at all the hardware simply couldn't do it so technically it's a top-down shooter on a 2d map but for a method called ray casting we see it from doom guys point of view as if it is 3d number 17 this I'm sure can all be found in the doom Bible written by Tom Hall in 1992 as the original design document for doom it's available online and contains lots of bits and pieces of story that never quite made it for instance there's a character called buddy de coat the coat stands for dies at the conclusion of this episode he died before that because the character was never in it but still number 18 the Bible dictates that are not of the story takes place on a moon named Taittinger it doesn't anymore of course but there are references to Taittinger itself on the walls of the maps number 19 one thing that's very memorable but doom is the weapon the BFG and we all know what that stands for Big Friendly Giant not really this will kill you it's appeared in all doom games and it's the strongest weapon available it's also left quite an impact too with references to it featuring in many other games like Halo 3 and Ratchet and Clank up your arsenal but that really is a great zile number 20 perhaps the weirdest reference to the BFG though is in real life where it could have been the real Tony Stark Elon Musk named his Mars Rockets after The BFG with the names VFR and VFS the RNs bit standing for rocket and spaceship respectively ecology reveal what the bf stands for but he's your imagination number 21 the design of the hellish enemies are perhaps the best remembered part of doom which of course meant a certain amount of detail needed to be achieved that's why the enemies of clay models and took pictures of them in stop-motion from 5 to 8 different angles so they could be rotated and rendered realistically in game number 23 anyway on December the 10th 1993 the game bricks remarked in a Star Wars Ward in particular saying it was amazingly cool and that making games that could serve as a canvas for other people to work on was a valid direction so they go pat on the back the face at the very last boss and you can see founding employee John Romero's along with garbled audio which in Reverse says to win the game you must kill me John Romero number 43 biggie of Easter eggs actually here are some doom Easter eggs and games other than doom 1996 is Duke Nukem 3d contains one touch gag where we see our own doom guy gagging and dying surrounded by lots of satanic stuff Duke even says he is one doomed Space Marine nother 44 mm and one's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater three features the Marine doom guy doing considerably better as an unlockable secret skater should be noted that this is only available on the Windows version of the game added by developer gearbox software when they ported it thanks team number 45 in 1996 a muppet to PC game called Muppets inside Muppet it to be released for free but then Tom Romero stepped in and the deal was made for evolution and another WOD project the Plutonia experiments to get a commercial release by ed software under the name final doom on June the 17th 1996 commercial release meaning for mommy number 56 this apparently sparked a huge online conflict in the demon community or Doom unity as have never been called some were full of support for team team people going pro but others said they were sellouts what do you think though were Team T&T out of line for tracing success let me know in the comments down below number 57 between doom 2 and final doom and three more on that in a sec doom 64 was unleashed in 1997 for the yep Nintendo 64 this is essentially a shiny new version of the first game even the story this time around is that all the enemies you've killed before have been brought back so you have to kill them again number 58 it's worth noting though that this version of doom has a soundtrack created by all three Hajus which was far more ambient and foreboding than the previous version making this version of doom a lot more horror orientated number 59 a doom board game was published by Fantasy Flight in 2004 so now you could slay demons on your dining room table hooray I have no idea how to play it so I can't really give you any more info than that Sal's hands number 60 anyhoo doom 3 was released in 2004 on PC after being in development for a whopping 14 years the game was visually an absolutely radical departure from the previous ones with a brand new engine called the EdTech 4 number 61 yep John Carmack announced the next-gen remake of doom was coming as early as 2000 bits of it were first shown in 2001 in Tokyo at the Macworld Conference & Expo number 62 here's the thing though this wasn't without controversy two of its owners Kevin cloud and Adrian Carmack were very against remaking the original doom as they accused those involved as relying on the same formula and properties number 63 its lucky then that this game was very different while it was a first-person shooter still there were far more horror elements found in the game compared to old entries with various jump scares and darken lighting effects Nintendo 64 one aspect of doom 3 that's like the infamous now is what happens when you look in a certain bar from mirror this jump scare has appeared on many greatest of all time lists and has browned many and under number 65 Nine Inch Nails were set to an ambient sound effect bass soundscape for Doom 3 at all its its theme song however to quote in time money and bad management Mendon on of this ended up in the game careful now Trent don't bite the hand that feeds now second time lucky however former 9 inch nail did end up nailing it so to speak Lin's former drummer Chris Brenner ended up doing it instead number 66 in Doom 3 if you look very carefully behind some boxes you can find an arcade machine called Super Turbo Turkey punter 3 if you only allows you to use weapons that were in the original doom number 17 doom 3 was met with reasonably good reviews with 87% on Metacritic particular praise was given to its graphics with PC gamer UK calling the NPC model n animations simply flawless it was a different time by 2007 over 3.5 million copies of doom 3 had been sold the best its software had ever done number 71 doom 3 had an expansion pack called doom 3 resurrection of evil which was released in April of 2005 with it came a whole host of new weapons and monsters including the maledicte the vulgar and loser number 72 you'll notice on number 74 turns out 2005 was a big year for doom because a movie version of it came out in October starring Dwayne the rock Johnson color burn and Rosamund Pike number 75 it was almost ever so different though arnie was at one point attached the project for instance as was vin Groot diesel not as Groot although that would have been quite something number 76 anyway the movie different from the original game is quite a bit the enemies for example are not from hell they're essentially just mutated zombies to make it more realistic I guess also what monster they turn into depended on whether or not they were a good or bad person realism number 57 anyway the movie was earned not received well by dem critics the film was a box-office BFG I know the beat of the sample bomb but oh well grossing 58 million dollars worldwide against a production by between 60 to 70 million the famous Roger Ebert said it was like some kid came over and is using your computer and won't let you play number 78 in fact those involved with the movie have even denounced it in a 2009 interview Dwayne the rock Johnson Ordway throught John for short described the film is an example of trying and failing to do a good video game adaptation and that it was a cautionary tale of what not to do number 79 a reboot live-action movie called doom annihilation was also released in 2019 available direct video with no cinematic release its software was not involved in any way with the movie's release and I'll leave it at that number 80 anyway let's jump back to 2016 when another reboot of doom was released and boy was it a biggie it had more in common with the original dooms and doom 3 as it was more about runnin and gunnin than hidin number 81 weirdly though doom 4 which is sort of what this game is was announced all the way back in 2008 there were rumors it was going to be a gritty military style shooter like the Cod's of the day but rather ironically it got stuck in development hell for years and years number 82 among the first to play the game were the lucky lucky people who pre-ordered copies of the Nazi killing Wolfenstein new order as leghul access to a doom multiplayer beta number AIDS III for this game to get a really good feel to the hell levels concept art was created that was inspired by polish painter deeds walk fetch in ski metal II number 84 creative director Hugo Martin just be black magic because i flat-out do not understand how that works number 89 the game uses an engine called ed 6h being it though this was called ed 666 engine nice it was made specifically for 2016 doom and was used for doom Wolfenstein - the new Colossus Wolfenstein Youngblood and number 90 no not the number 90 do VFR which was released for PlayStation 4 and on Steam in 2017 you don't and she plays doom guy in this game you play as a guy called Abraham Peters who narrowly sort of survives the demons coming to Mars number 91 in June of 2015 the first trailer for Doom was launched to the this video March earlier it was scheduled for release on November the 22nd 2019 last but doom Eternals release was later pushed like most other games this year and is currently sent to be released on March the 20th 2020 the same day is the new Animal Crossing which is at least slightly less violent number 97 according to Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin the game will have twice as many types of demons and will go through many different worlds including Hell Earth Mars and for the very first time in the series heaven number 98 but wait there's more this time the dooms flares kit is pretty sweetly tricked-out yo he's got a grappling hook for example the best gadget in any game and a shoulder-mounted flamethrower which be honest just seems unsafe number 99 surprising pretty much nobody is the last one one bloody Awards Mickey Gordon returns at the compose of the game soundtrack you go Mick there's something that I'm sure won't be abused at all apparently in doom eternal you can invade other people's campaigns as demons to try and kill the doom Slayer yourself you can do this solo or it's a greasing a squad and I'm pretty sure I won't like it number 101 here's something a bit weird one of the longest bits of in-game footage we've seen so far came from an unlikely source Jennifer look no not Jennifer Lawrence t-pain yet the guy who famously had relations for the mermaid streamed 2 hours of in-game footage why did this happen I have absolutely no idea at all but I'm glad it did so that was 101 facts about doom which doom is your favorites which weapon is your favorite
