[Applause] the royal rumble match can be one of the most grueling matches there is some superstars can spend up to an hour in the match itself which makes it extremely hard on the human body meaning the risk of injury is a lot higher than in a traditional match and michael's showing the scars already from the match-up additionally due to the amount of bodies in the match this can lead to accidents in the ring due to the lack of space which can also ultimately result in more superstars getting injured but which times were they look at this well join thing now as wrestlemania looks at 10 of the worst injuries in royal rumble history [Music] be sure to subscribe and hit that notification bell for daily wrestling videos and follow us on facebook for exclusive lists [Applause] royal rumble 2014 is mostly known for the crowd turning on the royal rumble match itself after wwe booked batista to win the match rather than daniel bryan o'brien was extremely popular at the time and fans felt like he deserved to win the match rather than batista i honestly think that those skinny jeans must just be a little too tight they're cutting off the circulation to your brain as well as the negative reception to the main event match the 2014 edition is also known for the last wwe match of cm punk and sadly it was a terrible way for the former wwe champion to go out in the match punk would be hit with a clothesline from kofi kingston which would sadly give him a concussion wwe officials then decided to have punk be eliminated earlier than initially planned in case the concussion was serious however punk somehow stayed in the match 40 minutes after he suffered the concussion which is without question incredibly dangerous for punk and the other wrestlers involved [Applause] when punk was finally eliminated from the match by kane kane continued beating down punk and even hitting a devastating choke slam through an announced table dave meltzer reported at the time that wwe allowing kane to put a concussed punk through a table is negligence of all negligence and it should never have happened daniel bryan the greatest world rumble was an event run by wwe in 2018 and it would feature the largest rumble of all time with 50 men involved [Applause] ron strowman would go on to win the match however it was daniel bryan's amazing performance that fans remember the most from the show anybody remember that title as well in the match brian would eclipse rey mysterio's 2006 record as he spent 70 minutes in the match itself brian would also suffer a serious chest injury during the match as fans noted halfway through that brian's chest looked like raw meat and it appeared that brian had received so much damage in the match that his chest was actually discolored looked like he rubbed a cheese grater on the thing this is this is from roderick strong i haven't wrestled roger strong since 2009 it's the first time we've seen each other and the first thing he does is blister my test out now although his chest injury did look serious he luckily didn't require any surgery or treatment he was back on television the following week number eight aj styles superstar edge is here without a doubt edge's return at the 2020 royal rumble goes down in history for being one of the greatest moments in wwe history however edge's return would unfortunately result in injury for a former wwe champion as edgewood entered the ring he would hit a spear on everyone in the match including aj styles [Applause] a spear fest now in order to sell the move styles managed to over rotate and he dislocated his shoulder in the process he immediately went to the corner and after a brief chat with edge edge threw him out of the rumble match way before he was initially planned to be eliminated in case there was any backlash to aj being injured at the rumble he decided to comment on his injury to confirm that edge had no involvement in the injury aj stated just so everything is clear edge did nothing absolutely 100 nothing wrong his move his spear everything was perfect the way he did it if there is any blame to put on anybody about what i'm dealing with with my shoulder it's me 100 me aj would quickly recover and would be able to go into his wrestlemania 36 program with the undertaker fit and healthy [Applause] [Music] number seven eddie guerrero the 2003 royal rumble pay-per-view is mostly well known for featuring one of the best matches in wwe history when chris benoit would face kurt angle for the wwe title the rumble match itself was nothing special and would eventually be won by brock lesnar [Applause] but during the match eddie guerrero would almost suffer a horrendous injury the potential injury came about when pukatee would enter the match and back body drop eddie out of the ring [Applause] the issue was that eddie landed on his knees and he immediately grabbed them as he was clearly hurt eddie somehow managed to walk to the back without any assistance and he wouldn't miss any television time number six takamichinoku [Music] what the hell back again one of the most notable spots in the 2000 royal rumble match involved kai and tai running into the match at random times despite them not even being in the match infamously on one of the occasions a big boss man and gangrel flung takamichinoku out of the ring we will not probably see taka obviously tonight unless he makes a printer out of the hospital oh yeah i love this show it again knocking yourself out right there a taco would face plant on the outside and would suffer a serious injury upon hitting the floor it was reported at the time that tucker suffered a concussion and he would also suffer an injury to his collarbone now although tucker was clearly injured it didn't stop wwe replaying the spot throughout the match getting in a few laughs at tucker's expense number five christopher nowinski you know we had a little chat at harvard for people like you that's all right that's okay you'll all work for us someday christopher nowinski had all the tools to be a top star in the wwe he had a great look a decent wrestling ability and had a fantastic promo style which attracted heat wherever he went this war is unnecessary and ludicrous [Applause] unfortunately his wrestling career was cut short following a concussion-related injury that occurred in 2003 [Applause] this injury occurred at the 2003 royal rumble as edge and ray mysterio would hit a double drop kick on nowinski but sadly edge's dropkick managed to be executed on nowinski's head giving him a serious concussion in the process nowinski would spend the next six months trying to get cleared to return to the ring but the injury was just too severe for wwe to allow him to compete meaning that nowinski was forced to retire in 2003. number 4 john cena the 2004 royal rumble was acclaimed by many fans it's been somewhat forgotten about due to the winner of the 2004 match being chris benoit nevertheless the 2004 match had some great moments and highlighted a lot of young talent that would be carrying the wwe through the next decade one of these talents was john cena who was injured in the match the injury was infamous for ending up on wwe's don't try it at home video package because of how brutal it looked at the time big show laying in the way the injury occurred when the big show would fling cena out of the ring and cena would land awkwardly and his leg managed to bend in on itself cena would tears mc but the future wwe champion would not miss any television time and instead decide to push through the injury due to it being wrestlemania's season [Music] one of the most notable moments that came from the 2019 men's royal rumble match involved nia jax attacking our truth when he made his way to the ring naya would then enter the match in truth's place at the prestigious number 30 spot meaning naya had a strong chance of actually winning [Applause] reports surfaced soon after the pay-per-view that night actually hurt truth during the attack and these reports came from jerry lawler who claimed on his podcast that naya hurt truth so bad that truth had to be held back because he was so angry now you're judged something wrong with you you know what hold on hold on wait wait wait no no no however other sources have claimed that there was no heat whatsoever on naya and they were fine with each other behind the scenes following the incident number 2 beth phoenix [Applause] one of the mvps of the 2020 women's royal rumble was hall of famer beth phoenix although beth retired years prior she managed to last almost 30 minutes in the match and would even last until the final four beth managed to survive almost 30 minutes despite suffering a devastating injury early on in the match the most impressive athletes in all of wwe as she would knock her head against the ring post which would result in her face being covered in blood for the majority of the match i i can't believe the result of beth phoenix the hall of famers in there clearly took a nasty cut early on in this match wwe hall of famer and beth's own husband edgar would comment on the injury following the match via twitter saying my wife's a badass that she is and number one vince mcmahon [Music] the most famous injury in royal rumble history is without a doubt vince mcmahon's injury at the 2005 royal rumble match now for some context the planned finish to the 2005 rumble was supposed to be batista throwing john cena over the top rope and then holding onto the rope meaning batista wouldn't fall out of the ring and thus winning the match and head to wrestlemania 21 to face triple h however batista built up so much momentum that he went over the top as well and his feet landed at the same time as cenas [Applause] but despite the mess-up the referees would try to cover as the raw referees would hold batista's hand up while the smackdown referees would hold up cena's hand then suddenly mcmahon who's not even on wwe television at the time came storming down to the ring looking absolutely furious he would charge too hard into the ring and somehow managed to tear both of his quadricep muscles this meant that mcmahon couldn't walk and he had to awkwardly sit in the ring whilst telling officials what to do next started the match with just a final two and the planned finish went ahead mcmahon somehow managed to make it to the backstage area on his own accord and the fact that he was able to do this shows some serious badassery well there you
