[Music] yes wearing your underpants on the outside of your clothes is the modern man's dream but being a superhero has its downsides on a legal level it's a complicated profession the job title alone is pretty questionable as often costumed vigilantes are technically considered illegal but given a free pass because they decrease your chances of getting your face burnt off by a supervillains laser but this doesn't mean that heroes are always given the green lights both in legal terms and in terms of public opinion in fact it's really easy for superheroes to suddenly appear like a massive villain to the general public which quickly turns them to being considered a criminal whose arrest is a priority and that is understandable seeing as most superheroes could topple cities and be basically ruling the world quicker than you can say oh my god we're living in the injustice verse still seeing costume crusaders deal with a tidal wave of negative public opinion is always a treat even if it's one that's generally quite short-lived I'm will for culture and here are ten times superheroes became public enemy number one 10 the x-men Avengers vs. x-men there are plenty of times that the x-men have found themselves on the wrong end of the law indeed the very nature of their powers means that many of their members ended up in conflicts with authorities pretty much as soon as they gained their special abilities however some cases of the x-men's run-ins with the law and public opinion are more dramatic than others take for example the case of Avengers vs. x-men where the uncanny group absorbed the Phoenix force and gained even more power from its this is more than a little unnerving for the rest of Marvel superheroes as the Phoenix force essentially gives them all massive God complexes after the x-men gets steadily more and more out of hand the Avengers are finally tasked to deal with them defeating the power-drunk team with the help of Hope Summers and the Scarlet Witch Cyclops the team's ringleader would be arrested and placed into a special facility equipped to deal with his powers although the other renegade x-men would actually escaped capture 9 Superman Action Comics 5 5 6 despite being one of the most lawful superheroes in creation Superman has been arrested defamed and otherwise made public enemy number one more often than you'd initially think the best of these comes in Action Comics five five six which sees the Manistee will be accused of various misdeeds by a local paper which is revealed to be a plot created by villain Vandal Savage in one of his weirdest schemes to date funniest ill this plan manages to actually work as many inhabitants of Metropolis start to regard the spaceman as less their savior and more the reason that villains come to the city turning many against him after being sabotaged by lying to save people from a burning building this mistrust of Superman leads him to being straight-up arrested although the judge who tries him immediately has been released based on the grounds that he sorts have saved all their lives innumerable times ate half of Marvel superheroes Civil War when it comes to superheroes being public enemy number one it would be insane not to mention civil war wherein every hero who doesn't agree to the superhuman Registration Act becomes a criminal in the eyes of the law and an enemy to everyone who complied this naturally led to a very uncomfortable scenario wherein these renegade heroes were hunted down like dogs by their former friends the ending is similarly painful as it sees Captain America be arrested for leading the faction against the Registration Act and while this is nowhere near the first or last time she's Yves rocher's has been arrested there's something about seeing cap in handcuffs that stings every time seven cable various comics cable is a weird example of a superhero who became public enemy number one in that he also becomes his own biggest enemy this is because strife the villain Cable spends much of his comic career hunting turns out to be a clone of the hero himself meaning that this whole time the illustrious NER do well is none other than another version of our hero naturally this gives Cable something of a small crisis as he manages to be basically the last person to know about his secret clone just might continually bumping into him since the pair were children it also made Cable himself public enemy number one a fair few times as strife would pretend to be his doppelganger in both x-force and the cable series which would convince many that cable was the villain six Green Lantern Green Lantern emerald the Emerald dawn series is one of the weird of green lantern origins stories around part of the reason it's so dang weird is that one of its first scenes involves soon to be Green Lantern Hal Jordan getting in an accident while drunk driving and then giving himself in this alone is weird but weirder yet is there in between the accident and the incarceration Hal gets the Green Lantern ring meaning that one of his first actions under the superhero name is to turn himself in for his crimes though it's perhaps not the strangest superhero origin ever having a hero searched for by the police non-stop until they gave themselves up is a surreal way to introduce people to Hal Jordan although it does set him up as an unpredictable character quite nicely 5 Captain America Captain America vol 910 for anyone are aware of Captain America's time in comics between 2017 2018 it can be best summed up as one of the rougher times in Steve Rogers his life not only did red skull manage to change reality itself to make the hero into a member of the villainous Hydra organization but when Rogers finally manages to overcome his brainwashing he's still blamed for the actions he made as the Supreme Commander to top things off after all this the good captain is framed for the murder of Thunderbolt Ross which lands him in prison with both Steve and his loved ones aware that this sentence is one that may continue indefinitely Sharon Carter then creates a plan to break the disgraced superhero out of his maximum-security prison while the plan succeeds it also places Steve in hot water with pretty much every government official which awkwardly puts him into conflict with the likes of folk such as Nick Fury for spider-man Peter Parker the spectacular spider-man though Jay jonah Jameson has made a fair play of trying to make spider-man out to be a villain he generally fails to do so as despite playing a mean game with the media most of the people in New York are aware the webslinger has saved their bacon more times than they've had hot dinners hilariously it's actually a series of different news sites that managed to ruin Parker's life in chip sidarskys spectacular spider-man series which sees a picture of Peter and his sister spread like wildfire across the Internet this would all be well and good in any normal scenario but unfortunately said sister is reported as having stolen government secrets about how to kill superheroes which makes spider-man hanging out with her look undeniably suspicious or at least suspicious enough that secret agents are dispatched to capture the arachnid wonder leave me spider-man stuck trying to redeem himself without outing his secret identity mercifully it's later revealed that said agents are actually rogue operatives meaning that Peter himself is safe from the cold clutches of the law even if a bunch of people were left thinking he was some kind of war criminal 3 Batman and Superman Superman Batman public enemies as the name suggests Batman and Superman are not exactly on the top of everyone's Christmas list in the Public Enemies storyline which sees Lex Luthor blame Superman for an incoming world destroying meteor landing him in some serious hot water and leaving Batman guilty by association as you might expect this results in a series of fights against those who now believe Superman to be some sort of extraterrestrial terrorist including a series of people that you'd normally think would come to Kent's aid in such a scenario dear friends such as Power Girl and Jon Stewart's all decided that they actually trust Lex Luthor much more than Superman requiring Batman and the Man of Steel to beat them back to their senses two daredevil various comics daredevil is a hero who is seemingly incapable of managing to protect his secret identity leading to an almost endless amount of scenarios where his life as Matt Murdock is revealed and then threatened by all the people who dislike superheroes while there's an entire stash of these storylines to rifle through the most entertaining in terms of making him public enemy number one has to be the case that occurs in vol 4 issue 15 of the main daredevil series the run of this series takes place in a time where Murdock has openly revealed that he's daredevil only for this to be used against him when the owl decides to air the secrets that every single person in Matt's life has ever told him leaving daredevil to be despised by the public who had previously adored him the situation is so bad that Matt even resorts to trying to make deals with kingpin to see his friends are at least safe but this ultimately falls through which is lucky as defeating kingpin is exactly what hell matze redeem his name one the Watchmen watchman one of the most crucial historical plot points of Watchmen involves the government Act which outlawed costumed adventuring and vigilantism while is often overlooked the Act essentially served to make every member of the watchman's actions in the series a fairly serious crime aside from those who were government sanctioned officials such as dr. Manhattan interestingly although this legally made any vigilante public enemy number one that already had this reputation in the public eye for some time indeed The Watchmen themselves were feared and hated before the acts came through between war sharks blatant and brutal murders and the rest of the watchman's involvement in the Vietnam War the public swiftly turned against superheroes in general believing them to cause equal damage to the villains they were supposed to protect the people from and they have it folks ten times superheroes became public enemy number one feel free to drop this video a like if you enjoyed it and drop me a follow on Twitter and you sly dog you I'm will for culture thanks for hanging out and I'll see you next time
