this is my wife andrea and at the beginning of this year i decided to pick up a camera and start filming her gorgeous furniture flips and diy projects and the results have been beautiful [Music] so in this video we want to take 10 of our recent flips and combine them into one video for your enjoyment and inspiration and as you watch through these flips if one really catches your eye then let us know and tell us in the comments which one is your favorite so go ahead and grab a warm drink sit somewhere cozy and enjoy andrea's handiwork [Music] i picked this piece up on facebook marketplace for fifty dollars and i could definitely see some potential in it but it was in some really rough shape it needed a lot of repairs so i definitely had my work cut out for me with this one the dresser also came with these psychedelic drawer liners and i tried to get andrew to keep them but in the end we just tossed them [Music] i started by taking everything apart just to get a better look at it and started the cleaning process and after pulling a few of the drawers out i found this oh my gosh what is that [Music] what [Music] after vacuuming i started wiping down these detailed areas but honestly they ended up being so dirty and dusty that i moved them inside to use our sink sprayer and that worked much better [Music] [Music] next i did a scuff sand over the entire piece and then i ended up sanding all of the drawers just because they were so dirty and so stained and then made some just basic repairs on the drawers and sanded down the tight spots that were making it hard to open [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] when it came time for primer i decided to use the spray paint version of the primer that i like to use so that i could get a nice even coverage on all these detailed areas [Music] [Music] [Music] i knew i wanted to add a custom base to this but first i needed to remove part of the old base and so i used my rip cut guide with my circular saw to do that [Music] so [Music] i built a custom wood base for this piece and i wanted to get a really light color on the wood that would tie in with the hardware i chose so i used a custom mix of watered-down acrylic paint with a touch of green to cancel out the red in the red oak [Music] [Music] after a light sanding and another wipe down i got ready to paint [Music] [Music] i went with a really creamy off-white color for this piece and i use my spray gun to apply two solid coats [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] wow [Music] i finished the piece off with two coats of my favorite polycrylic and a matte finish [Music] it was time to finish this piece and i started by attaching a custom wood base [Music] so [Music] for the hardware i went with these really unique rattan knobs and the color tied in perfectly with the wood base [Music] [Music] after everything was assembled it was time to stage and list this piece [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'm saying my mama [Music] so [Music] [Music] me [Music] quack [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh what's up [Music] foxy [Music] bye [Music] so [Music] [Music] so i got this piece totally finished and then realized it was just missing something and i wanted to add a wood base to tie in with the wood hardware but it was just too high with the existing base now normally if you've seen me do this before you would definitely want to remove your base before you paint but i hadn't quite worked out all those details when i started and this is what i did to improvise so since this space couldn't easily be removed just by unscrewing some pieces we ended up cutting off about three quarters of the existing base and then attaching the new base to that just so it didn't look quite so awkwardly high with the two bases on there [Music] and in the end it barely barely chipped some off the edges so i went back and just quickly touched that up just with my [Music] fingertips [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] um [Music] so [Music] [Music] so so [Music] b [Music] so with andrea finishing up the cleaning it was my turn to step in for priming [Music] and i take the priming process very seriously and so i prepare my body like any olympian would because my priming techniques well they're unique what can i say and so fans will commonly come to watch me prime and do moves like the ballerina the vanna white the p leg and a personal favorite the no looker [Music] the lazy boy the stretcher which is really hard if you're not stretchy the phantom primer the happiest primer in the world [Music] the liquor which i don't recommend and finally when you're done drop the prime and walk away to me i really feel like my priming techniques are next level nailed it babe [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] my what are you doing [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] baby [Music] to start things off i went ahead and removed the old hardware and i actually went back and forth for a bit trying to decide whether to keep this hardware or try something new but in the end i had a really cool idea that was a totally different look that i wanted to try next i went ahead and made a few repairs and the only real big repairs on this piece were these missing corners on the drawers and i had to get a little bit creative on how to get the bondo into the right shape for that [Music] i went ahead and used the same bondo to fill in the hardware holes on the bottom two drawers and any other imperfections on the rest of the piece that i knew i'd be painting for the top four drawers i grabbed my stainable wood filler because i knew that these would be getting stained instead of painted and then shortly after getting started the weather took a turn for the worst and so we actually had to load everything up into the garage and get ready for rain [Music] but the next day was a beautiful sunny day and we are ready to get rolling again [Music] [Music] i used an 80 grit sandpaper to sand down the bondo being extremely careful around that corner and i am so happy with how this turned out it looks flawless and it worked so well [Music] [Music] then of course our project manager had to come and check on the progress he was very pleased [Music] on the drawers i wanted to stain i started out with an 80 grit sandpaper and then moved to 150 and 220 to get a nice smooth finish [Music] i applied two coats of this special walnut stain for a nice rich color [Music] [Music] i had to make a few modifications to get it ready for a custom base [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] after modifying the bottom of the dresser it needed some additional support so i added that which will also give my new base something to attach to [Music] box [Music] after blowing everything off i gave it a final cleaning and preparation for paint [Music] i did a custom mixture of some fusion mineral paints in a 50 50 ratio because i was going for this really specific warm taupe color [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] while the first coat of paint dried i decided to get started on building my custom wood base and i decided to add some angles to the legs this time because i felt like it added some unique interest that this piece needed [Music] so [Music] paint dries really fast here in the texas heat so by the time i finished building my face i was ready for my second coat of paint and i always do a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper in between coats for a nice smooth finish [Music] [Music] then it was time to bring everything inside to attach the base and add the new custom hardware [Music] [Applause] [Music] finally it was time for staging and photos so we could get this piece listed [Music] [Applause] [Music] this thomasville dresser is so beautiful and at 77 inches long it is by far the largest dresser we have ever picked up just to give you a reference i am exactly six feet tall and this thing is a few inches longer than me which is really big for a dresser [Music] as i usually do i started out by removing all of the hardware pulling the drawers out and then filling the old hardware holes with bondo [Music] then i went ahead and filled any of the minor scratches on top that i thought might show through the paint and you might notice the dresser wobbling a bit but that's simply because it has these little adjustable feet that we needed to adjust back into their proper position [Applause] next i sanded down the existing base to get it ready for a new finish so [Music] i used my mouse sander to reach some of the corners that were more difficult to get to and then sanded the little grooves and hard to reach areas by hand [Music] i wanted a really light stain for this base and so i used a white wash and applied it with a brush [Music] quack [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh [Applause] [Music] so after blowing everything off i went ahead and gave the piece one final cleaning to get ready for paint [Music] i was going for a really dark charcoal color for this piece and so i made a custom mixture of fusion mineral paint in the colors ash and coal black in a two to one ratio [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i sprayed two solid coats of paint and did a light sanding in between coats with 220 grit sandpaper [Music] i finished the piece off with two coats of my favorite top coat and here is a little tip if you are top coating a darker color i have found it helps to get rid of the streaking that is sometimes an issue with darker colors if you add a little bit of paint into your top coat and so instead of rinsing out my gun in between the painting and the top coat i left the residual paint in there and added my top coat right to it and stirred it up in the gun we finished this piece just in time because as soon as we got that last drawer inside it started pouring outside it was time to finish this piece off with some new hardware i went with these simple black pools that i found on amazon because i felt like the modern shape in the larger size just fit this piece so well and gave it the updated look that i was going for [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] this is always my favorite part of the whole process getting to put it all together and just see that vision that's been in my head actually come to life [Music] so [Music] this was actually the first time that we saw this piece all put together because our clients brought it over with the drawers out of it and it was just such a unique piece with these really cool elegant details [Music] after cleaning everything really well with the tsp substitute i give everything a good scuff stand [Music] i am using bondo again to fill the existing hardware holes and i have really been enjoying using it it dries really quickly really hard gives a really smooth finish but you do want to work with it very quickly because like i said it does drive very fast [Music] after the bondo dried i sanded that down and had to use my detail sander on some of the smaller harder to reach areas next i blew everything off with my leaf blower and then gave everything another good wipe down to get all that dust in preparation for primer [Music] for the first time i am spraying my primer on this dresser and if you've been watching our videos most of the time i have rolled it on and that is really just because it's a little bit messier to clean since it is a shellac based primer so with some encouragement from a fellow furniture painter katie scott i finally went for it and decided to spray the primer and this was the perfect time since i had a bunch of interior doors that needed the same primer as well because as we've mentioned in our last few videos we have two full bathroom renovations that we are so excited to share [Music] i always do a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper after each coat of primer and paint [Music] for this piece we decided on this beautiful muted sage green color and just as a side note fyi i do always try and include the paint color and other products i use in the [Music] description [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] and as usual i applied two coats of paint followed by two coats of top coat with a light sanding in between each coat [Music] box [Music] wow finally it was time to put it all together so we brought it inside and got ready to install the hardware [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so now normally you'll see me stage my pieces up against our brick wall in the living room but since this one was for a client and it was already paid for there was really no need to stage it and get photos and it just looked so pretty here in front of the windows with the curtains behind it and was so beautiful on its own that i didn't feel like we needed to add much staging to it [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] so [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] okay [Music] [Music] sorry [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] do [Music] so [Music] free [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] interesting good night [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] all right [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] oh [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so that is it for this tin flips video and i hope that you're as inspired by andrea as i am like i mentioned at the
