1 Year at Thunder Canyon (before & after)

can you believe that it's been an entire year since we arrived at thunder canyon time has flown so in this video we're going to show a lot of before and afters really enjoy the progress and we're going to talk about something really serious you see we've come to the realization that it's time to let go of thunder canyon the poop just come out babe it's okay [Music] welcome back to the rvr couple my name is john and i'm mercedes and long story short uh we rv and pursuit of freedom independence and adventure until we found a campground we fell in love with in this video can't believe it's been a year this week but a year ago this week we found thunder canyon and what an adventure it has been um we're gonna go ahead and show you the process the before and after shots of every little bit of thunder canyon we have a few announcements for some upcoming events coming in september october and november um we'd love for as many rv odd squad members to join us as possible and of course we're going to talk about the big party we're having here on the 4th of july to celebrate the rvrt squad the principles we live by and the united states of america the greatest country on the face of the planet hopefully keep it that way we'd be remiss if we didn't take just a quick minute to say thank you to all of you who have supported us especially our founders our founders have funded this adventure for the past year yeah and this video is not our progress it's our progress it's what we've all done together because so many people have come in and donated their time i think this is one of the places where the transformation is most apparent look at this yeah this is the men's room the bathrooms open the other one this looks so much better shower showers now the ladies room look at this [Music] this is so light and airy and clean it looks so good what do you think sage do you like this better she left she's boycotting she's walking us in yeah and then these ladies showers so much nicer oh look they're even cleaned up though yeah over the top yeah this looks so much better i mean i wouldn't even step within three feet of the door of this building so now it just smells clean it's light it's bright it's so much better it's so much better yes ultimately this will be our ada roll-in yeah but we still have some work to do on this we'll have a shower on this wall with a handheld splash and that will be ada toilet well that's probably one of the biggest challenges is that this place was built before there was such a thing as ada so you can't make this perfectly ada compliant but we're trying to make this ada friendly what are you doing i'm putting you inside okay you don't lock the door on us i didn't do it but i just did it so this is the first place that we got to with thunder canyon a year ago yesterday and when we came here then we had no clue we had no clue we were so high and felt so blessed with finding this place it's getting real okay holy moly batman you know um but we had no idea we would both work harder than we've ever worked in our lives this place wouldn't have been possible we could not have done this by ourselves we've had hundreds of volunteers come in and camp with us here at thunder canyon yeah this is a membership based campground we have about 700 members at this point we need more members um and so the different membership levels we give you as much as we possibly can but the lowest membership is 99 dollars a year with that you get a 25 discount when you stay here when you stay at thunder canyon so if you stay here for five days it pays for itself um and you're actually supporting a really good cause in the work or the mission that mercedes and i felt that god gave us with this entire thing i've said before i've never known in my life exactly what god wanted me to do and i do now i know exactly what i'm supposed to be doing with the rest of my life and it starts here at thunder canyon now we're still looking for more campgrounds and to remodel campgrounds to build you know another beautiful campgrounds with people that value the same principles that we do god family and country and we're hoping to grow this all across the country and this not would not have been possible without the rv odd squad and all of you without you guys we couldn't have pulled this off and so thank from the bottom of our fixing to go dave [Music] yeah buddy [Music] so now we're going to show you the fellowship hall this is one of the buildings that has been i mean it was just rough when we first started but come on and check this out this building is really important because we're going to spend a lot of time together here in fact we already are every day at 9 00 a.m we have a punch list and a prayer meeting where we get together and decide what we're gonna do [Music] are you a good helper [Music] oh you can see how red that is [Music] the kitchen this was one of the areas that was the biggest diamond in the rough we had some really awesome equipment and it was old school equipment you know that they built things better in the 50s than they do today but the problem was we didn't know what worked and what didn't work can we say ice ice baby i am so excited about this ice maker it's such a game changer because alabama is hot we were told that this didn't work well guess what it works and it works amazingly well they don't build equipment like they used to don't don't judge me i'm hiding like cupcakes yeah this is where john has to hide his snacks so that i don't need them all talk about yummy yummy cooking these actually came with the property they just needed some some elbow grease we got a full steak fry of burger griller the flame works fantastic the grill is amazing we had an rv out squad member who knows how to fix these old school this old school equipment don came out with his wife and he fixed all this stuff up we can actually cook here and then the freezer ready for the fourth of july party i know another thing that's really cool this is called a dessert freezer but uh we like to keep a lot of waters and gatorade on hand because we're a thirsty bunch this is really cool i don't even know what it's called salad bar and so on the bottom of this it's all kept cold that's refrigerator on the bottom and up top is just a serving station yeah this is really cool a lot of what we needed was here we just had to dig we had to uncover it these both looked absolutely horrible yep but nan got in here with some elbow grease she put a grinder on them that was so rusty yeah we didn't know what we could salvage and what we couldn't salvage adapt overcome please excuse our washing machines in the kitchen this is where it is for now are shutting these units down for the fourth of july party yeah people will start rolling in here in the next couple of days we're super excited we're gonna have about 150 people come to thunder canyon and celebrate america this is just so nostalgic i mean this just feels like old school campground family retreat this used to be a boy scout house and up in front up there used to be the kitchen and they feed all those boy scouts and girl scouts here just like everything else the rv odd squad showed up we actually had a guy named david he gave us that picture which mercedes calls him camping jesus yeah that's uh jesus camping at thunder canyon and then this was made from us by another army odd squad member you know we get these all the time these little posters or pictures of framed artwork we've got another dozen in the house but somebody made this for us which is fantastic well and that's what's so cool we just take the art that the rv odd squad gives us and we use it around thunder canyon that's just it's just so cool come on guys act like men whatever look at you getting all excited i'm not a grandfather how's the proud grandpa ever i'm just giving him the water look baby god wants you to have chickens i've had enough of the chickens all right this is enough enough please stop i better not go up here right yeah you can't have no more roosters if you want a hand you can get a hand but no moves [Laughter] that's a little bit [Music] [Music] she's my baby too i can't believe you got to go buy another cage though right no we got the little baby cage we got the other cage [Music] she's getting more she's getting more lucky oh that's beautiful look at the color oh that's so pretty oh that's so pretty let's get out of here let's go come on [Music] [Laughter] [Music] she said she wanted a black chicken yeah [Music] [Music] what are you doing i'm hanging a deadly chicken sign because i've got 15 now and that should be enough to overwhelm any man any intruder beware john's chickens are not to be messed with my chickens your chickens they're not my chickens okay you secretly love them a little bit hey guys i know this is really important about security but i'm hanging a chicken sign so can everybody keep calms open please thank you okay so my chicken is egg bound she's my favorite one too she's just not acting right she's acting really lethargic her bum looks heavy basically i'm going to try to help midwife the chicken it's worth a try did you see me in the camera yes all right the only time you're ever going to be in a hot sight i promise you that i think she fits in the pot i'm not for coin you're not recording is the red on nope oh no she's sad she's still not doing too good yeah she needs to lay down [Music] excellent camera girl yeah doing a really good job so it's still intact look at her standing she hasn't stood like this in a while she's creating herself this is good look at her she hasn't been doing this at all oh congratulations thank you ma'am you're the hero hey sally how you doing huh well thank god you have mercedes as a mom and nan is one of mom's best friends now mm-hmm you know what's funny john you act all tough but look at you petting the chicken well i mean they're part of her family now i joke but i'm starting to really like them she got her sick with my cooking i had made this rice that was really dry and really salty and she got dehydrated you cooked for her no i cooked for you i well i wouldn't eat it and you made her eat it well i it's normal to give the chicken scraps i understand how the chicken feels do not sign up for this baby don't worry baby when you get old i'll stick my fingers unless you start giving me crap remember you better change my diapers in 15-20 more years yeah so you're gonna preparation h preparation and you're going in her one hole yep okay uh my job is just to hold her do i need to put her butt up in the air so it'll be easy for you to get at it the poop just come out babe okay it's okay come on i i need help say don't look at that you'll never be the same sage was there too she was my camera woman and actually you know what had it not been yeah seriously had it not been for you're more of a city boy than i am that's kind of funny had it not been yeah for amy at the feed store yeah thank god for amy the one that gave us six more freaking chickens she's a godsend yeah yeah that's why we can't buy chickens ever since there's one person's angel is another person's demon huh she knows she knows you're not gonna like her well she better not give us any more chickens fifteen's enough you told me two is enough and then four and then six and now you're sticking your finger up a clo acre three and a half years ago mercedes and i set out full-time rving completely gave our lives to god and his will and we had no idea that within a year the whole world would change a lot from govid i started praying for discernment that god showed me exactly what he wanted me to do because the world was so crazy i wanted to protect my own family and the vision that i got was i had a responsibility not to just our family but all those people who had supported us and put us where we were at in the youtube space our channel just took off and we're so grateful to all of you the entire community for everything you guys have done thunder canyon never would have happened without you a lot of you may not know this is completely funded by the rv odd squad and it's time now mercedes and i have never worked so hard in our lives and it's time now for us to hand the reins over to the our founders the people that have supported us and the 24 families that came in and joined us and building a campground built on the bible and the boy scout values which is the vision that i got some people think it's crazy but it's true well it is crazy but it is true you know i had no idea that i would have 15 chickens in my life at this point i consider myself and my family the most blessed and thunder canyon's absolutely amazing it really truly is like a stater national park but you gotta come here you gotta come and see it and experience it it's not thunder canyon it's the community it's the people that we've attracted into our lives the people that god has sent to us to help us and so we're we're handing the reins off to the founders the rvod squad will kind of guide and run this park mercedes and i are already looking at two more parks we believe that we've done everything we possibly can to get thunder canyon offset off on the right foot mainly with the principles that guide it now it's time for us to go out and find another project you know what's next for us again pray for discernment and see where god sent us pray for something else i hope it's in florida yeah because i don't want it from weather yeah um but we'll see what happens and so um we would love for you if you if you guys are fans you've followed us throughout the years we ask that you join the rv odd squad it starts at want to build a training center something that nobody's ever done in the rv space thousands of people come into the rv space every single year and they have no idea and it's bad of the bombs that they can hit we're hoping that thunder canyon is going to become the first training facility so that before you buy rb your rv before you make the stakes before you make do all the dumb things we did you
