hello welcome back to the channel if you want a tip about how you can get more stability into your pudding stroke come back in just a moment there's an awful lot of information on the market about the pudding stroke and what's better and what's worse and I think if it works then it's probably pretty good I don't really want to talk today too much about the stroke but more about the stability of the stroke and the stability of the stroke has an awful lot to do with the way that you grip the club and its relationship to your arms during the swing I worked an awful lot of beginners and find that the tendency of the beginner is to address the golf ball with straight arms the feeling then that they're basically straightening their arms and holding them stiff as if that will give them more control over the putter what it usually leads to is long with long as also taking the grip like a normal golf club with a club a little bit more in your fingers is that you will actually see the butt end of your golf club under your forearms in the swing what this actually is doing is making the golf club a little less stable the center of mass in the golf club obviously is towards the head end but it means that when you're actually swinging the golf club the head end is always trying to overtake the grip end and if you are if you could imagine holding the club in the middle of the shaft here and swinging it then the club is trying to kind of do that I think when bernhard langer changed his grip because he was yipping and started to grow grip with the left hand under the right hand as a right-handed golfer we suddenly saw a great wave of people doing this although they didn't have actual problems with you ping the reason for this I believe is that it was simply getting the club lined with the lower arm actually stabilizes it and if this is something you find you're having problems with that you can pull a ball left or push a ball right and there's no real kind of consistency in your miss then maybe just getting a little bit more stability between the shaft and the arms might be the trick that you're looking for so how do you do this well it's really quite simple the very first thing to understand is that you're never going to be able to build a line from your shoulder down to the ground because that would require you to have a very upright putter and the bigger you are the more upright putter you're going to need for this kind of method unfortunately a lot of the face balance putters which have a curve in the shaft in order to make them face balanced also have a flatter lie and you might well find if you're quite a tall guy or girl that you are gonna have trouble actually getting alignment of the shaft and your lower arm if you're using one of these face balance putters there are however putters that also have a high MOA in the head fmri in the head that means a lot of mass behind the heel and the toe of the golf club but still have the shaft going into the heel of the club which allows them to be more upright than usual classic kind of face balanced putter when you then grip the club what I'd like you to do is first of all make sure that the club is placed in the center of your hand so it's going more or less from the forefinger up through the two balls of your hand and then you're gripping the club now you don't have to grip the club at the bottom of the grip with your with your lead hand on the contrary what you can do if you take the club first of all like this and then pull the club the hand up the grip what you want to do is keep the lower arm in extension which will mean that your elbow will have to bend and once you get to the point that you feel comfortable with on the shaft then you place the the trail hand underneath the lead hand also with the club going through with the grip going through the center of the hand so if I show you the right hand for me behind the club the lead hand in front of the club and the club is more or less kind of sandwich it's like the kind of a hot dog between the two BAPS I'm trying to get that feeling then that both arms are parallel so this right arm for me has got to be tucked in until I get basically the feeling of both lower arms at the same height so you can see from the side here that there is a definite angle in the elbow and then I basically lock that by just turning the elbows in a little bit the feeling would be then if I had a bandage around my lower arm then this bandage would actually wrap around any extension of the putter and when I now get my shoulders to just swing backwards and forwards go up and down and get the club swinging then I highly help if I can feel the difference of how the club is actually acting in my hands just taking the club in my fingers are making the save movement I'll actually feel a difference in the weight of the club then when I've actually got the club in the extension and it's quite easy to feel the difference as well now this could well mean you're gonna have to change your routine to taking the address position and before you start putting the ball I would recommend that you do that a few times so if you just take a golf ball start with a pretty short putt and just go into the routine of putting the club behind the ball taking your grip first with the lead hand sliding it up the shaft then with the trail hand making both arms sure both arms are on the same height and then just this simple pendulum movement in the shoulders should be enough to move the golf club backwards and forwards in the swing golf can be a very complicated game but often it's these simple things which make the difference and especially at this time of year where you've got time to practice your putting endure this might not be a bad idea as a time to make a change if you've been struggling with putting through the last season I'll be back with a few more pudding tips next time but until then look forward to seeing you all thanks
