be with you all and with your spirit my dear brothers and sisters the love of god and love of our neighbors is the two important commandments that jesus gives us that we are constantly reminded of in a very special way during the season of lent we need to examine our conscience and see whether we have been faithfully following these two greatest commandments let us acknowledge our sinfulness our weakness our limitations the times when we have failed in these two great commandments and ask the lord for pardon and mercy as we begin to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to my brothers and sisters that i bring you sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fault through my faults through my most grievous faults therefore i ask the blessed mary of a virgin all the angels and sins and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen [Music] [Music] christmas [Music] you let us pray convert us o god our savior and instruct our minds by heavenly teaching that we may benefit from the works of lent through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god for ever and ever [Music] a reading from the book of leviticus the lord said to moses saying to all the congregation of the sons of israel you shall be holy for i the lord your god i am holy you shall not steal nor deal fairly nor lie to one another and you shall not swear by my name fairly and so profane the name of your god i am the lord you shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him the wages of hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning you shall not curse the death or put a stumbling block before the blind but you shall fear your god i am the lord you shall do not injust in judgment you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor you shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people and you shall not stand forth against the life of your neighbor i am the lord you shall not hate your brother in your heart but you shall season with your neighbor lest you bear sin because of him you shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people but you shall love your neighbor as yourself i am the lord the word of the lord thanks be to god your response will be your words o lord are spirit and life your words o lord are spirit and life the law of the lord is perfect it revives the soul the decrees of the lord are steadfast they give wisdom to the simple your response your words o lord are spirit and life the principles of the lord are right they gladden the heart the command of the lord is clear it gives light to the eyes your response your words o lord are spirit and life the fear of the lord is pure abiding forever the judgments of the lord are true they are all of them just your response your words o lord are spirit and life may the spoken words of my mouth the thoughts of my heart win favor in your sight o lord my rock and my redeemer your response your words oh lord our spirit and life gospel acclamation [Music] [Applause] [Music] praise to god [Music] is acceptable time be a lover's day of salvation praise to christ [Applause] [Music] [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to matthew glory to you oh lord at that time jesus said to his disciples when the son of man comes in his glory and all the angels with him then he will sit on his glorious throne before him will be gathered all the nations and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats and he will place the sheep at his right hand but the goats at the left then the king will say to those at his right hand come o blessed of my father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world for i was hungry and you gave me food i was thirsty and you gave me drink i was a stranger and you welcomed me i was naked and you clothed me i was sick and you visited me i was in prison and you came to me then the righteous will answer him lord when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and gave you drink and when did we see you a stranger and welcomed you or naked and clothed you and when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you and the king will answer them truly i say to you as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren you did it to me then he will say to those at his lifetime depart from me you cursed into the eternal fire prepared for you for the devil and his angels for i was hungry and you gave me no food i was thirsty and you gave me no drink i was a stranger and you did not welcome me naked and you did not clothe me sick and in prison and you did not visit me then they also will answer lord when did we see you angry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you they will answer them then he will answer to them truly i say to you as you did it not to one of the least of these you did not to me and they will go away into eternal punishment by the righteous into eternal life the gospel of the lord praise you lord jesus christ my dear brothers and sisters in christ jesus sisters rosella mutangi and ann frieda the two missionaries of charity sisters are serving as missionaries in ukraine on march 2nd sister prema the mother general of the missionaries of charity called on them and then gave them a clear instruction telling them that they have to move to a safer place as the war is going to spread to the entire country but then these two sisters sister and ann frieda both of them they said that they will not go anywhere else but then they will stay on they will stay on to serve the injured in the war and those who are fleeing and these two sisters are from the northeast of our own country and these sisters they served in different countries like russia estonia and latvia and right now they are in ukraine it is the same gospel of the day that inspired mother teresa to found the missionaries of charity and today's gospel we see that how that every one of us are to appear before jesus at the last judgment there can be no one who can escape from the judgment and in the last judgment what happens is that we see that how our actions are being uh judged and we also see that jesus is separating the sheep and the goats the blessed and the cursed somewhere this gospel also has the direct reference to the beatitudes the ones who are blessed the blessed are the poor in spirit the ones who are persecuted the ones who are righteous and who endure are the ones who are called blessed and in the gospel what we see is the direct and the sensitive response of the people towards the needy i'm sure all of you will agree with me that still this world is broken we live in this broken world where there is hunger thirst nakedness sickness and imprisonment what is our response what is our response and that's why we see at the last judgment it is not just only the christians who are going to be judged the entire human race everyone will be judged everyone will be judged by their actions so much to say that there are some people who tend to think it is by one's deeds that we can attain salvation no in the letter to romans saint paul very beautifully says it is because jesus the lamb of god who has been sacrificed as an atonement for our sins and it is because of him that we will be able to attain salvation gospel of john chapter 3 verse 16 it is because of our belief in him and it is not just by our deeds but also by faith and faith is the work of god it is the grace of god so also we see in the letter of saint james if you have faith then show me your works so both faith and our works go hand in hand in order to be the arbingers of kingdom especially towards the needy and that's the reason why as we are beginning the season of lent in the very first few days the right orientation is given to us that how our life our words and our actions need to be examined purified corrected and transformed so when we see at the last judgment it is not just our pious actions you know so much so the pious actions are not mentioned at all your sunday eucharist your rosary your way of the cross your visits to the blessed sacrament all you are praise and worship all this is not being judged at all so much so in order to say that all of us not just the christians every human person will be produced at the judgment seat of god and everyone's actions will be counted in order to see whether they're good and or bad whether they are righteous or unrighteous this is where many a time we tend to question how do we know when we need to serve how do we know when we need to reach out to the needy if it is only for christians we have so many ways or instructions the commandments that are given and that's what we heard in today's first reading we heard about the ten commandments from the book of leviticus the very first reference is made in the book of exodus the ten commandments that are given to the israelites it is the same these commandments are also placed at the heart of every human person every human person's conscience is based or founded on these commandments not to kill not to cheat not to steal not to bear false witness honor to honor one's parents so these are the foundations of our human conscience and hence we can ever ever go against our conscience that's why as human beings as human persons it is a humane task every time when we reach out to the needy reaching out to the needy in hunger in thirst in sickness in imprisonment and when people are struggling and that's how we become human persons and every time when we are sensitive and when we respond to the human situa human need surely we are called as human otherwise we will be called as beasts where there is no human sensitivity so my dear friends at the beginning of lent let us orient our lenten observances our prayer fasting and alms giving should be able to be reaching the needy should be able to alleviate this world's brokenness as i said in the introduction the two sisters how they stayed on they could have very well moved on to the safest place you know as priests religious and consecrated persons we do take care of others others lives are our prime concern setting aside the interest of our own life we want to serve we need to serve others it is in the same spirit that every human person is called to reach out to the needy to reach out to the least of the brothers and sisters mind you on the last day we should appear before the judgment seat to be judged whether we are sheeps or goats [Music] oh to jesus i surrender oh to him i freely give i will love and trust him [Music] is [Music] i surrender [Music] [Laughter] pray my brothers and sisters that this our sacrifice may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord be sacrificed at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and good of all his holy church may this devout oblation be acceptable to you alone that by your part it may sanctify our manner of life and gain for you gain for us in your conciliation and pardon through christ alone the lord be with you your spirit lift up your hearts we'll lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for by your gracious gift each year your faithful await the sacred paschal feasts with the joy of minds made pure so that more eagerly intent in prayer and on the works of charity and participating in the mysteries by which they have been reborn they may be led to the fullness of grace that you bestow on your sons and daughters and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and paths of heaven we sing the aim of your glory as without end we acclaim [Music] oh heaven and death is [Music] oh foreign [Laughter] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] we proclaim your death until you come in therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have elders worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis oppo peter our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who fallen asleep in the hope of resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be cohest to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ [Music] through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever [Music] let us pray to the heavenly father in the words our savior taught us our father in earth as heaven is in heaven give us to stay our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously ground peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who set your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you lord look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always and with your spirit let us offer each other the sign of peace lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed [Music] spiritual communion prayer my jesus i believe that you are present in the most holy sacrament i love you about all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally please come spiritually into my heart i embrace you now as if you were already there and i unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen [Laughter] [Music] we stand before you holy spirit as we gather together in your name with you alone to guide us make yourself at home in our hearts teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it we are weak and sinful do not let us promote disorder do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions let us find renew our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right all this we ask of you who are at work in every place and time the communion of the father and the son forever and ever amen let us pray we pray o lord that in receiving your sacrament we may experience help in mind and body so that kept safe in both we may glory in the fullness of heavenly healing through christ our
