trust and all our hope in your loving protection and as your sons and daughters we beg of you to obtain from the lord the favors we ask in humility and in obedience to god's holy will intentions as you have recommended we are ready to do whatever jesus tells us to do and so we are confident that by your intercession we would receive these favors along with your blessing and healing the most morning great is your faithfulness [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the grace of the lord jesus christ and the love of god and the fellowship of the holy spirit be with you r my dear brothers and sisters it's the first saturday of the month the day of our lady and it is more meaningful to us because we are in the lenten season mother mary teaches us how to be close to god in this lenten season because the lenten season is season of grace is a season of blessing for us and therefore mother mary teaches us that we not only ask her these or those favors but we are also ready to be responsible christians by being away from the devil and all the insinuations about sin and other evil matters so today we ask mother mary for a special grace of healing for us a spiritual healing a spiritual cure in our life so that we can be closer followers of her son jesus christ let us acknowledge our sins and prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in all i have done and more i have appeared to do through my fault through my fault through my most previous fault therefore i ask blessed many of a virgin all the angels and saints and unto my brothers and sisters who pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to darkness and your gloom be as the noonday and the lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong and you shall be like a watered garden like a spring of water whose waters do not fail and your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt you shall rise up the foundations of many generations you shall be called the repairer of the breach the restorer of streets to dwell in if you turn back your foot from the sabbath from doing your pleasure on my holy day and call the sabbath a delight and the holy day of the lord honorable if you honor it not going your own ways or seeking your own pleasure or talking idly then you shall take delight in the lord and i will make you ride on the heights of the earth i will feed you with the heritage of jacob your holy gospel according to [Music] glory to you [Music] at that time jesus went out and saw a tax collector named levy sitting at the tax booth and he said to him follow me and leaving everything he rose and followed him and levy made him a great feast in his house and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them and the pharisees and their scribes grumbled with his disciples saying why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners and jesus answered them those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick i have come not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance the gospel of the lord my brothers and sisters in christ as you know it's the first saturday the day of mother mary but madame never keeps anything for herself always points to jesus always asks jesus to intercede on our behalf and today in a very special way as we are in the season of lent mother mary has a very special message for us too because the season of lent is a season of grace it's a season of healing and the season of cure and mother mary plays a great role because we have heard it often mother is the best doctor mother the mother's prescriptions are the best medicines and so today perhaps mother mary also would like to be not only the one to whom we intercede but one who helps us to be cured in our life today's gospel speaks about matthew who's supposed to be a tax collector is perfectly healthy he's so healthy that he's going on doing his business after business collecting money after money and he's not satisfied jesus when he sees him he knows that he is sick that matthew is sick that all of us are sick and in what sense not in the physical sense we are perfectly healthy there's nothing wrong with us but we are sick of heart we are sick of mind we are sick of our soul and jesus the doctor the healer as it were at once notices matthew and says this is a sick man this is a man who needs to be cured and therefore jesus tells him come when jesus speaks to him he speaks so lovingly and says come follow me and matthew we are told in the gospel he leaves everything and goes after jesus and not only that that evening he calls jesus for a big meal he's ready to spend and waste money for the sake of the love of jesus in him and he is not only cured of his sickness he is even considered as a fellow doctor because every apostle every man chosen by god is a healer for others and mother madi is the instrument for this she points to jesus the biggest healer and what is the medicines that jesus or mary gives us there are three medicines in the lenten season that the church gives us the first medicine is the medicine of prayer medicine of prayer and prayer doesn't mean that we have to see prayers after prayer some people bring old books can come and read and dispraise prayers and even on novena praise no one knows what he said but you have to say 10 pages you have to say the novena praise in some churches the naveena prayers are longer than the mass also so we have to go on saying the prayers praise praise pray for god is connecting your heart to him so prayer is the heart not in the mouth not in your voice not in your singing and a big noise that we make it's in the heart to say that god i am not worthy like that pharisee and the publican who stand at the door the pharisee comes inside and makes big noise perhaps even in song even in his tunes to say that i am singing i'm doing a big thing i'm doing the naveena prayers but the publican stands there and says i have nothing to say because i am a sinner that is the biggest pray that is the biggest humble prayer that he does and therefore the first medicine that god gives us is pray because prayer taken every day at different moments of our life you know a doctor says these tablets you have to take three times a day take one in the morning take one in the afternoon take one in the evening take it with water take without all this given same thing for prayer morning afternoon evening the jews had five times for pray the five times the five times they remembered god in their life the god was more important that is pray the second medicine that god gives us which mary prescribes to us in the name of jesus is penance included of fasting penance and fasting that is the second medicine and what is penance and fasting it does not mean that we have to do so much that at the end of the lenten season you have no strength at all that you are faster and faster i don't want your fasting of your stomachs i want fasting of your heart don't care about your clothes and say that i don't want any clothes i'm doing penance air away your heart he says and once again penance and fasting is misunderstood there are people who do lot of penances and tell everybody i don't eat meat i don't do this i don't do that i don't do this perhaps a long list but what god wants is the fasting of your heart the fast the real fasting in which you will say that i don't depend on this food even if i don't eat today i will survive i don't depend on this drink and fasting is much more not only of your stomach perhaps i would say eat fully well but do fasting of your eyes how many times we have not we want to see things fasting of your ears so many of us are so fond of gossip gossip we may fast the whole day but i want to hear more and more gossip what happened to him what happened to her and what happened to this one and that one and sometimes they speak even about priest and nuns gossip we need fasting of that we need fasting of the of the mouth how many times we use words that are not necessary perhaps even cursing people fasting of our thoughts and imaginations how much you are here but i don't know whether you are really here because some of us you may be at home what is happening what is this one evening what shall i do afternoon what shall i eat fasting of our minds that is also needed and that is the medicine that jesus gives us today and the third fasting is the fasting of the the medicine of arms giving arms giving that means sharing with the poor perhaps there are some people who fast today but they will feast tomorrow i want to keep this money i want to keep this thing that i'm not eating today so that i can give it i can use it tomorrow that's not the meaning of fasting fasting means to give to the poor arms arms giving we call it we are not wanting to give arms because i want i want i want i want our wants are never perhaps fulfilled and that is the medicine that god gives us today once again to say that when you give to the others when you empty yourself perhaps god will fill you god will give you much more and arms giving me just not throwing some coins to the beggars perhaps there is someone in your house which needs to be taken care of there is some child who is waiting to study perhaps not able there are some people and that's why we have to give in more and this almsgiving perhaps will fill us but our body our mind will tell us don't give because you will need it you give today tomorrow you may not be having so therefore keep it for tomorrow and this greed as it were greed greed we call it it can never be fulfilled it can never be satisfied we go on we go on storing and we go on keeping and we go on perhaps counting and there's no end to it that's why jesus says another medicine for us is arms giving empty yourself give it to others today we see matthew he thinks there is no need of giving he wants to collect more and more and as a tax collector he was allowed to collect any amount of money provided he paid to the government that much portion that was required if it was 100 rupees he could take thousand rupees but provided he gave hundred rupees to the government by challenged by this that was enough government was satisfied and therefore this man went on gathering and more and more till he saw jesus till jesus saw him and then jesus as a healer as the doctor scanned his body and mind you know what's fussing then you go to the doctor do they go to the hospital they do the scanning and they say that your brains are blocked your blood vessels are not functioning and that is the way jesus scanned him and said that he has got much more money than necessary and he needs to empty it he needs to throw it out and that day at the at the meal he's so happy and he says lord i will give half my money to the poor one third of us one-fourth i'll give to those whom i have defrauded and the others i'll give to the poor this is the way perhaps arms giving that god cures us if you are not cured of your illness today what you are asking god perhaps think properly you have not used the medicine of arms giving if perhaps today you are not healed or god has not given you that what prayer that you are asking because you are asking god but you are not doing anything of yourself you want to fill fulfill yourself and we are never satisfied and many of us die of our richness many of our die of us many of us die of our greed someone told me that in the customs in the airport customs there was one chap who was coming from abroad and he was here he was 20 25 years there he had made a lot of money and he had got lot of properties and this thing but still greedy still wanting still not sharing anyone even his family was not happy that what he was giving because he wanted to keep keep keep keep and so when he was coming from the airport they scanned him but before they could scan he had a heart attack and died what had happened was he had taken some gold biscuits he didn't want to be caught and he had swallowed it perhaps he had swallowed it so much that he perhaps didn't see about his health about what would happen to his body to his stomach and with that he died and whose money is this all this that he has done and the gold that he has put in his stomach perhaps this is the way we are this is the way that we live and so today we need the help of jesus our healer to tell us what's wrong with us and as i said he gives us the medicines which mother mary prescribes to us very lovingly you want to be healed you want to be cured you want to have this thing in your life for which you have been praying perhaps take these three tablets three medicines prayer fasting or penance and arms giving let us offer our prayers and supplications to god for the needs of the church for the needs of our archdiocese and the needs of our families your response shall be lord hear our prayer lord hear our prayer we pray for our pope our archbishop all the bishops the clergy and religious that they may work for the spread of the kingdom of god and that they may be blessed guided and protected in all their efforts we pray to you o lord lord hear our prayer we pray for our nation all its leaders and all those who bear the responsibility of leading the nation towards progress prosperity and peace grant them strength and sincerity in rendering their selfless service we pray to you o lord lord hear our prayer we pray for all the poor the downtrodden the abandoned and shelterless felt lonely at heart fill them with your compassion and embrace them with your love we pray to you o lord prayer we pray for all the sick around the world especially those who are affected with kobe 19 pandemic let them feel your healing touch and be cured from all their sickness grant them good health body and mind we pray to you o lord lord hear our prayer we pray for all the devotees of blessed mother mary who attend this mass of nawaina and all our parishioners give heed to their petitions and prayers grant them through the intercession of our beloved mother we pray to you o lord lord hear our prayer let
