oh bugs don't stop biting me [Applause] one man and one woman for 21 days do they have the skill and the will to overcome the most brutal survival challenge of their lives god there's so many ants crawling in my ass there are a lot of dangers in this jungle they're snakes i'm nervous i'm nervous i am a hunter i love to hunt squirrels deer rabbit i can build fire i'm a crazy woman i like to do wild things i flipped my truck and broke my collarbone and now have a metal plate in it this scars right here is a rite of passage in louisiana you know everybody flips their truck it's normal i sense a lot of spirits here and i plan to talk to them and hopefully be welcomed by them my name is caesar i'm a martial arts instructor and a shaman eagle feather very special i do believe that spirits are abundant in this area they're here we want to make sure we appease them and not take them lightly [Music] let's do this very excited about meeting my partner it's going to be amazing to find out who the spirits chose to join me in this venture so nice to meet you i'm caesar i'm leah this place is beautiful yeah but i heard it's dangerous too so definitely we'll have to watch out for snakes and stuff let's see what we got in addition to a fire starter leah and caesar have brought two personal items machete great let's yeah okay let's go let's do it follow me the area of the mayan jungle leah and caesar will call home for the next 21 days has been hit especially hard by the rainy season everything is saturated and the nights are wet and bone-chilling do you know about allusions no i've never heard that well it's like elves gremlins leprechauns of the forest a lot of people from this land believe that those exist and live in this forest my partner talks about you know spirits and leprechauns and stuff which i mean i'm i'm cool with it because you know we have our our tales in louisiana back home we have some i call them superstitions um yes because not everybody chooses to believe in them but i do excellent i feel really good about my partner i like him i mean he seems really wise oh forest elves please protect us oh boy look at that oh my goodness think about going across this tree right here you want to do it yeah do it let's do it all right oh god careful i don't know how sturdy it is you're good yeah okay no you know what this thing is slippery all right slowly got it yeah hold on you got it leah is a partner i was hoping for it he's an outdoors girl and that's great let's go through here okay did you think you find a good resource i know with spring water filters out through these rocks and through the roots of the trees i think it's safe to drink when it feels you know what i think you might be right the jungle is rich in limestone which is especially effective at filtering out harmful microbes my god that's good yeah that's good wow [Music] oh look at that it doesn't look friendly you know what let's get to camp careful if you know what we should make camp i can hear it's good it's close to our water source we are making a raised bed because um there's a lot of ants out here and we don't want to sleep on the ground got to bring your body temperature down and it's just not good it's comfy [Music] no fire a lot of thunder lightning [Music] [Music] sleeping isn't going to happen my first night was not how i thought it was going to be at all leah and cesar sweat has attracted an army of tiny chakistas they're like all over the place i'm still getting bit look at that unlike mosquitoes chiquista bites occur in clusters as they cut into the skin blood droplets form which attract others creating a feeding frenzy oh my god mud keeps bugs off of you how do they make that repellent all right and you mix it with a fern i like this okay you crush it up and then you can just throw it on your skin [Music] mud has been used for centuries by native americans to ward off mosquitoes oh god the mud masks the smell of human skin that attracts the bugs and the aromatic oil from the sweet fern leaves adds an additional layer of protection sprinkled into my hair i don't even care i feel like i'm still getting bit what's the deal i mean i cannot do this i'd rather break my collarbone again than nothing though another night without a fire to keep those bug joints i mean i'm telling you i don't know what it is i'm with you heck up heck up we're leaving i found the spot it's uh right off the game trail it's right by the water we've got some trees that we can clear to have more sunlight oceanfront let's go excellent when do we move right now [Music] [Applause] yeah really thanks now [Music] all right where would you like the bin well did you did you have a good idea there are some good ideas but okay i got a couple of ideas in mind but you tell me where you let's talk to you okay all right i've been asking for spiritual guidance and sometimes it comes in the form of listening to other people getting clues and such hopefully in turn you'll get some sort of reward [Applause] [Music] god there's so many ants calling in my ass rolling up like a ship over bird's nest put that magnesium on top it works good spirits i know you're not wanting to make it easy on me really more concerned about the bugs than anything i just want to be able to sleep tonight hey just wait a minute okay i literally lost my mind and i can't be like that not a good place for me to be in so yeah if we were to get fire i'm sure that would lift up our spirits it's it's very important if we could get that fire maybe we could try again what do you think now i'm going to go ahead and shave off all the magnesium we can as much as possible because we've been doing it a little bit at a time thinking it's enough all right let's just do it let's just burn it up the donkeys don't catch no pressure there's a lot of pressure because if we don't get fire leah will not make it through the night no possible way i can do it well give it a try put stuff in put stuff in put stuff in put stuff in put something put something i need something else i need something else keep feeding good job good job i'm emotional someone is happy it's a pretty big deal i didn't think i would ever be this happy about a damn fire fire god i give you sincere thanks you came through and helped me when i needed it the hell you get for making that fire is unreal and now i just got to worry about getting enough firewood for tonight there's a big log we could just feed it in like that we don't even have to chop it up this one whoa is it even good yeah can we dress okay are we going that way straight ahead super slow don't let go of it here put it on your shoulder it's easier no no no oh my god hold on drop it if you have to no it can't get wet right i gotcha whoa all right sorry sorry all right where'd he hit you this is the one with the metal plate in it go see the medic medic [Music] i'm sorry i mean i slipped so we cannot know without x-rays [Music] and we have to take it to a hospital we can't continue i'm really sorry i can't continue now no i'm sorry not [Music] i'm really sorry okay i'm really sorry please keep the fire going thank you you built it you got to finish it [Music] the fire went out come on come on [Music] oh yeah thank god that piece of wood kept warm all this time last night i didn't get much sleep maybe 30 minutes keeping that fire going was difficult what i'm doing is putting the snails in the net some of them have been smashed so hopefully the sand attracts something the hunger is starting to weigh on me so i'm making a trade-off with the mosquito net using it to set up a fish trap overnight so that means i'm not going to have it tonight to protect me from the bugs so hopefully i'll find something in return [Applause] i'm surprised the fire doesn't keep them away some people can do all night long [Music] no sleep again bugs biting all night because my mosquito net i used it to try to catch fish so hopefully there's something in there to make it worthwhile i'm a little bit anxious i want to see if i caught something or not so let me see what do we have [Music] nothing sometimes the spirits have lessons so making a statue of an aloosh a little altar in their honor please help me endure [Music] ah found some monkey fruit i'll pick up everything and just take it back and see if it's good bang spirits smells like alcohol wow really fermented well they don't pan out we took a chance let's see what happens tastes like um maybe rum or something wow hey i'm getting dope busy oh man i wonder if i'm getting drunk now let me sit down [Music] for a minute [Music] [Music] bugs don't stop biting me oh my god look at that take a look at my bites full with these spots all over the place suckers were not like this yesterday oh come on [Applause] oh no it's eating me alive oh good time i get that give send in the medic to evaluate his condition cesar has been beaten a lot all his body is covered with wounds the inflammatory process that is going on around his whole skin can make him go high potency and low blood pressure the pain is just incredible she is not eating at all and his mental status is not helping anymore i can't do it one more day i want to tap out okay this this might be what the spirits had me do was do the toughest thing i've done in my life my level of respect for the indigenous people that have lived here out on their own goes even higher my god i do leave humble to the spirits i say we're still connected in the universe hey everyone i made it back safely it did not affect it to where to have surgery again so i'm thankful for that and i completed physical therapy um it was still the experience of a lifetime and i would definitely go out there and do it again in a heartbeat
