what's up and welcome back to another unboxing review with Gizmo slip Tech I am super excited because the zephyrus G14 has been one of the most popular gaming laptops for a couple years now because it's affordable it's fairly premium it's Ultra portable and still fairly powerful especially for its size it's a remarkably powerful laptop for its size and um I'm just really excited to test this out it has a number of improvements over the previous year's versions that I have tried I've reviewed uh this laptop I believe twice before in previous years and uh this one's got just so many more features a much better display and a webcam with Windows hello that was a huge improvement over uh previous versions and then um of course this also features a much more powerful GPU and a better cooling system which should Pro which should push much better benchmarks and and I mean of course you also have the fact that we have RTX 4000 series graphics cards RTX 4060 in the G14 that we'll be testing today so all of these things make me just super excited um I see we have people in chat already wow 18 people on the live stream already thank you so much to everyone that has supported me um it's been overwhelming seeing the support come out from the Community the gaming laptop community over these live streams and Benchmark tests so thank you very much over at the r gaming laptops subreddit um the discords that share these videos and of course my own channel subscribers all of you guys and channel members all of you mean so much to me thank you so much for your support um and if you can please drop a like on this live stream because that really does help me as a content creator let's see if we can get I don't know a thousand likes on this live stream eventually hopefully that would be amazing if we can do that um yeah so what's up Thomas says I was about to go to sleep and you start the live about the laptop I've been the most curious about yeah yeah so I like this is one of the laptops that you know it was a bit delayed compared to all the other ones on its launch it just came out like about uh started taking orders about a week and a half ago two weeks ago I've had this in for about a week now prepping it but I was actually in Cancun with my fiance Carla and we had an amazing time there so I had to take a bit of a break there and then I also I've been trying to set up this triple monitor gaming monitor setup um and it's gonna be awesome when I do because it's like three QHD plus 16x10 displays that are like 500 nits 100 DC ip3 color gamut and you can play in triple monitor setup um it's for 16 inch laptops but it was just tricky getting all the drivers and all that working and I spent I don't know 10 plus hours troubleshooting all of that and I couldn't get everything fully tested and set up you have to do that live stream so that took a lot of time um but I'm gonna still do that live stream coming up I just gotta I still got are testing on it because I need to make sure that all the games work how I'm expecting them to work when I go into it because I don't want to be like oh I can't get this game to work now in the live right so um so those are a big part of the factors that are playing into all of why I haven't posted as much content lately and then I was also filming a video uh this last weekend out at Matt Barnett's place which was an explosions guy I've exploded a bunch of iPhones over at his like explosion factory farm area whatever and we tested uh an iPhone 14 versus one gram of C4 and it was awesome it was it just it was really it was a really cool result and we filmed the slow motion cameras um and then I've got some really exciting news to share with you as well um this is super cool um I got engaged over this last Friday to Carla so I was going to show you guys real quickly the engagement video before we get into the testing unboxing it'll just take a minute and I'll show you a couple photos so let me show you the photo first so this is an explosion going off behind us right as I pull out the ring and she thought we were gonna high five jump in high five and uh so she's like wait what this is the ring and it totally surprised her and it was awesome and she totally said yes um and here's the video Let's see if I can pull the video up I'm gonna put a fully edited video to this and let me see if I can get the desktop audio working oh I need earplugs we got extras so yeah so she thought we were going to come across the line and then we're gonna jump and high five together like that ready and instead okay here I am pulling the ring out of my pocket call me and we come together jump at ideal pull out the ring will you marry me [Laughter] and so Carl and I've been together for six and a half years we actually were engaged previously and decided to break off the engagement and then we got back together because we couldn't be a part I guess so and uh yeah we did a lot of thing you know working together and communicating and I think our relationships better than ever so yeah I am engaged again to Carla and I'm really excited about it uh so without further Ado give me that life update to you guys uh let's get in to the zephyrus G14 unboxing so woo all right so this is a uh one of the best 14-inch laptops without a doubt I see a bunch of guys in chat saying congrats thank you so much um Ninja Warrior asked Brandon did the MSI radar ge78 solve the BIOS problems so I want to make a dedicated video on that but in short MSI has realized that uh basically in their bios update process they in order to ensure that the BIOS update goes through consistently you need to restart everything a reset everything in the Bios to defaults uh so that way because I had manually set all my undervolted undervolting settings back to zero but apparently that wasn't enough just in having undervolting enabled period or possibly enabled was enough to crash it so basically to get MSI to update without crashing um with the BIOS what you need to do is reset all bios settings back to default and then initiate the update and so MSI has revised their bios update procedures to include resetting the BIOS back to default and then upgrading the bios so that's very important if you need to update it um now I want to make a dedicated video about out that because I really appreciate them doing that they've fixed my GE 78 and they're shipping it back to me I need to go pick it up actually at UPS has the Rog M16 come in no it's not okay what are the upcoming reviews and different brand laptops I've got a Lenovo 5 Pro that has arrived and a Lenovo Pro 7i that is arriving today or tomorrow so those are going to be the next two live streams after this as well as the triple monitor display um and after that I should have a Razer Blade 15 coming as well so so yeah um those are the those are the reviews coming up in the short term but there'll be a lot more the Acer Predator Helio series recently went on sale at Best Buy and so those are also going to be coming up soon as well hopefully in the next couple weeks um sweet so let us get this unboxing started all right so here is the Box you can drop in the mic here all right so you can see the box has this holographic display kind of just like the kind of look of the back of the laptop actually like all the little dots kind of has this it's almost like it's the rear of the laptop with all of this the slide angle with all the little dots which is pretty cool and then you know there's kind of the back area the side and there you go so if we go ahead and put the laptop box on its side as we open the box we've got a nice uh kind of textured pattern up here um let me see if I can get the light to shine down onto it it says dare to be different and uh and then I like the other thing that's really cool that I like is that it props the G14 up like it it pushes the G14 up which makes it really easy to access and I just love that that is so cool to me I always love boxes that do that um some of Asus boxes this year does this some of them don't but this is a bit more of a premium unboxing I think and better boxing experience than even the scar Series this year so um I love that so we pull the laptop out it is super tiny it is super thin it is super light you can already tell and you can see this is the White edition of the laptop and I love the White edition of the G14 it looks so uh beautiful and it's definitely one of my favorite uh color Renditions of the Asus products they don't have very many uh White Edition products especially that you can actually buy at a reasonable price level or a high level of availability because oftentimes they have just like the gray versions of the zephyrus G6 16 or g15 for example and they don't have the version that's like the white typically available and I think the white just looks tremendously better so I'm really excited that Best Buy is now going to be offering the White Version and sometimes they do in the past also offer the white version but at least the one I reviewed and last time I believe it was a gray version I think I reviewed one gray version of one white version in the past of the g14s so I'm definitely going to be like kind of comparing the G14 of this year's edition versus the G14 in the previous versions in my head as we do this so we've got the 240 watt power brick let me zoom in here so you can kind of see that so it's a 240 Watts right here and it's fairly portable fairly small power brick overall it's not too large you're gonna be able to pack this in a bag fairly well but you also have the capability of using a USBC charger with the USBC ports on this so if you want an even smaller adapter when you go to class or you go to the office because you're not going to be playing games then you can totally do that now this cable this cable is about six feet long for the paint the main power cable and the follow-up cable from the power adapter to the laptop is about four and a half feet long so it's not quite as long but overall you get about 10 feet of reach for the um the the length of the to the wall outlet basically from the laptop which is a pretty good range though I kind of wish it was another like foot and a half um I like getting I like getting a little bit longer especially in the portable scenario where sometimes you really have to stretch to get to a power adapter now uh here we have let me go and switch camera angle again here we have our box we've got papers and stuff like that in here so here's the papers that we've got we've got I think it says G Series gaming notebook let me zoom in for you and right here just giving you how to charge your laptop in case you don't know how open the display panel press the power button wow that is informative for people that have never seen a gaming laptop before I don't know why they felt like they had to include that but all right um safety precautions we're not going to worry about that some more manual stuff so we've got another we've got ourselves another little pamphlet here and uh right here you can see we've got the the webcam and the mic array display panel status indicator lights power button audio output so these little things on the top of the laptop right below the display those are speaker outputs that's important to note because you don't want to block those like put your phone up there unblock them if you want to have better sound quality another thing this year that's definitely Improvement is we have a bigger touch pad on the G14 you'll see that from a top view perspective we also have an external mic interesting so you have a microphone that's on the outside of the laptop very interesting uh anime Matrix on the back I don't think I don't think this unit has an anime Matrix I don't think but uh we'll see I guess I I haven't I haven't really checked I actually I've been turning it on and installing applications and I never looked on the back but I don't believe this one comes with the anime Matrix um you gotta probably spend a little bit more and I don't believe this one has the mini LED display either because you can get this laptop equipped with a mini LED display or the anime Matrix you can't get both because it has to basically the the thickness of the display would be too thick if you had both so either you either get the mini LED or the anime Matrix or you get like just a regular display without either so depending on which one you get I'm pretty sure if you want to have the mini LED you might have to spend a little bit more money this says charge the notebook for three hours before using it in battery only mode um that's just in a general a good idea to charge your battery to kind of calibrate it and uh make sure that the basically making sure that the laptop software knows exactly how how big the battery is and and charging it to 100 it's not as big a deal with the lithium ion battery but that's something that is definitely uh been handed down some of the old days when we had alkaline batteries which desperately needed to be charged to 100 before you actually used it I don't actually think it's not important for Lithium-ion batteries but maybe I could be wrong um okay so it says thank you for being a valued Asus customer an unlike the event that your computer requires warranty service please contact Best Buy or Asus for support I did buy this from Asus so that's very nice and they do have a phone number right here I'll kind of zoom in a little bit for you guys to see that uh 1-800-433-5778 and so that's nice that you can just get support right there through through that and here's the warranty card looks like just a general warranty applies and when you set up the laptop you can actually register this when you're setting up Windows so it's not like you have to mail this in uh to get your warranty support and honestly even after the fact like even if you don't register it initially you can still get warranty support as long as you have like the um you can prove that you bought it within the time period of when you should be getting support okay so that's everything that's in the Box uh let's go ahead and close this up foreign and let's go ahead and take the laptop out all right so I'm checking in with chat now that we're coming up here uh Toto he says sucks that this isn't the 4080 or 40 90 version of the G14 that would be very cool I made that that probably warrants another review because I think a 4080 or a 40 90 version is likely gonna maybe hit a different wattage level than the 40 60 in a lot of the games um just because the 4060 is not a very power hungry GPU and we've seen a lot of um in-game action where like the laptop GPU actually pulls significantly less than the rated wattage where with the 4080 and 40 90s we've often seen them actually pull the the rated wattage in most of the laptops that I've tested so far so here is the laptop itself pull this out do we know the power output on the GPU uh sway Garcia it is supposed to be 125 watts according to Asus but we need to actually see what we get uh wattage in games right because it may be actually technically a little bit lower than that or maybe it will hit 125 watts but I'm hoping that it hits at least 100 watts in most of the games because if you look at you know the zephyrus G6 team which is a thicker bigger laptop that sucker is hitting is supposed to be rated for 120 but typically we were seeing around like 90 to 105 with most of the time being close to 100 in most of the titles um so you can kind of see the holographic display if I turn it just right trying to get a good bounce off of the it's kind of harder to see this year's version I think compared to previous versions which kind of makes me wonder if this isn't the anime Matrix display I don't know I can kind of I can definitely see it but you gotta you gotta get it to be just the right angle there it is now you can see it yeah so you got the nice holographic Shimmer here and I think that indicates that this is not an anime Matrix if I were to guess okay so pulling it up we do have like a microfiber separating the laptop uh and the the display like the keyboard and the display in the packaging um beautiful um I really think this laptop looks gorgeous like this is just such a beautiful white keyboard with I love the spacing I love the size of the touchpad this is a phenomenal touch pad this year it feels really good to use I I believe this is the same size as the zephyrus g16 and in previous versions of the G14 sometimes it was a much smaller touchpad I'm not sure exactly which year they made it bigger but this year is much bigger than the 2021 version of the zephyrus G14 that I reviewed previously uh Hawks sr2 with the two dollar Super Chat thank you so much are you going to review the Alienware x16 I will I believe review that eventually this year I just haven't uh it's not it's not a big focus of mine yet but that is one of the laptops that I do wish to review and I would love it if Alienware were to send me one for review um anywhere if you're watching send me one I will I will do a review on it so there's the outside exterior I really just I'm I I love this overall size and build quality let's see how this Stacks up in terms of sizing compared to the competition so here is the blade 16 which is the most compact 16 inch laptop for a gaming laptop that you can get that's a full powered 16 inch and you can see the G14 is noticeably smaller you know you got about an inch in the front and you got about almost two inches to the right like this G14 is just so much smaller and so much more portable um you gotta love that here is the strix G18 one of the larger laptops and you know if you're looking for a full powered um very high performance for your money laptop the G14 or sorry the the strix G18 is a very good choice you got but I mean in terms of portability I mean look at this you got almost four inches I would say between the the side of the laptop here uh and the G14 and you got about three inches from the front of the laptop it is a huge difference in size which is mind-blowing partially because the ports on the zephyrus G14 are basically almost the same like why why did Asus decide to put ports that are almost the same on the G14 and G18 which is such a bigger laptop that to me seems crazy um and a big mistake by Asus all right trying to think do I have no okay yeah I don't have the stealth 14 on hand it's out in the garage right now so um I would compare that one though if I could uh overall this is very similar in size to the stealth 14 though it's it's very similar um Brett Allen says Where Have You Been I I uh start watching from the beginning you'll get a whole life update including a short video of a proposal to my fiance um and I didn't really show you a um I didn't really show you my um pictures from my trip to Cancun but yeah I was in Cancun and I really had a great time uh there with Carla and uh so yeah I've been traveling was in Mexico for four days and then I've been troubleshooting a lot of different things but yeah we we're getting back into the content and uh doing some like my goal is to probably do at least three live streams this week and um hopefully edit a couple videos as well for release we've got uh another video we're gonna compare uh all of the uh almost all of the RTX 40 90 laptops that I have uh reviewed uh in a side by side split screen Benchmark comparison it'll be six of them it's gonna have like the Alienware M18 The Omen uh 17 I think the strix G uh the scar strix scar 16 and it's gonna be really interesting seeing six RTX 4090s I think the xmg Neo 17s in that comparison as well and that one performed really well I think we have the gt77 or maybe the I'm not sure we'll see I still have a few more more RTX 4090 laptops that I am going to review so we were kind of stripping the screw a little bit I don't like that we got to get a slightly different sized head for the screwdriver if it's if it's hopping like that you want to get a slightly different sized head for the screwdriver um I think this one will be good let's find out yes no stripping screw there and there we go Bridge Allen says congratulations I'm happy for you thanks man uh do you sell the laptops after review furry on yes I do and I have decided uh just because there's not been as much interest as I was hoping to offer 10 off of whatever I paid for the laptop so it's going to be cheaper than retail price going forward on my review unit resale program and that's going to be offered to people who are channel members so if you're interested in buying this zephyrus G14 become a channel member and then contact fill out the form and we will contact you about Which laptop you're interested in so these lab these last two screws are not popping out they seem to be out but they're not actually like lifting up with the magnetic I wonder why maybe they're not supposed to come out I also see two screws here that are I believe underneath rubber seals I don't know why any company does the whole rubber sealed deal I just am not a fan of that because um it's just more annoying to take the bottom off and no one Minds seeing screws I don't you know I don't get it like we see we see 10 other screw holes on the bottom of this why can't we see these two screw holes as well so and I don't even know if this is actually a screw under it but I got a check probably does and they're kind of a pain to get up and make sure you use a plastic tool for this if you're trying to pop these up because oh wow this thing does not want to come up at all maybe it doesn't maybe it's not removable because it is it's not coming up I don't think okay well we'll try to take the bottom off but uh as it is but we might need to actually get in there and take those out if they are if there are screws under there like if it's not coming apart then that probably means there are screws there so I want to point out that this bottom screw right here is a pop-up screw you can it does not come out this corner screw you got to get a pry tool and get underneath it and then you can pull the laptop or you know kind of pull the laptop apart so you can just take a little plastic guitar pick or something similar get it under the corner start going around and it just pops it right up and this is awesome for getting into your laptop a lot of laptops it's so much harder to get in there and remove the screws I'm also going to see if I can get these two screws on the bottom right here because there are two screws that are not coming up with the magnets on my screwdriver let's see if I can get them to pop out so far they're not coming up they seem to be really in there let me turn the shirt uh let's see here there we go all right so uh I want to mention this is another into the am shirt it's just one of their basic tees it still has the same cut and everything uh that I really love but it's like uh doesn't have a Graphic Design it's just like a high quality shirt material um and the cut it just feels really good and the T-shirt should last a long time assuming I don't stain it sometimes I'm a Messy eater so no guarantees there uh but hopefully I can get a new stains out because I I really do like the Anthony shirts a lot and so there's a link in the description down below if you want to check out the into the am shirts uh 10 off uh to anyone that buys a shirt through the link um and then that whatever you buy also a small percentage of what you buy comes back to help support me as a content creator it's like an affiliate link so just know that you're supporting me if you do use it uh if you do use that link so yeah this appears to be a screw here because this is not popping up right here so we need to get in there underneath that rubber foot and try to get that screw out um so let's go ahead and start prying once more and get these screws out yeah and there's a screw in the middle too yep because he says there are rubber plugs hiding the screws in the middle like those three in the yeah exactly so we gotta just I'm gonna try to dig in here with more Force this thing says not like honestly if this is my laptop I don't think I would even put these rubber feet back in after I got them out I'll just leave them out see if I can use this kind of pick is a plastic pick these are just in there so freaking hard geez jeez Luis okay so these are metal tweezers just kind of trying to grab the rubber I can see the screw underneath it now got it so using the metal tweezers was kind of the key to getting it to come up but I'm just using the metal tweezers on the plastic rubbery part itself not on the external part of the chassis that's very important to know otherwise you're going to scratch the chassis and kind of use the tweezers to get underneath it and just really push it kind of pull it up so there we go so let's go ahead and get the uh the last three screws up and out oh these are long screws too you're going to make sure you keep track of which screws go in which holes otherwise you can put a screw through your motherboard because the longer screws going into say one of the shorter holes it's just not going to be good because then it'll like keep drilling when it's supposed to be done and then if you try to just keep plowing through with really strong pressure on the screwdriver you'll just like go through whatever is underneath the screw hole so got to be very careful about that with this laptop in particular because you do have a lot of screws of different lengths and sizes I'm going to put my tools away as we do this all right so we got these three middle screws out now and there we go all right let's try to continue going around yeah and it just came right up really easily and we might lose these middle screws back here now that we're getting it to pop up so oh it's interesting okay yeah these two screws on the back they've kind of got extra holders on them so let me see if I can get them a pop out now yes I got one to pop out and it fell on the floor the other one's not interested in popping out so I better find the one that fell on the floor before we continue there it is all right so overall the main thing that was hard about taking this laptop apart was just the um it was just those rubber tipped screws that was it the rubber covered screws you got to kind of a good tool to remove that all right so taking a look at our interior here it's kind of an interesting layout we have a partially inverted motherboard notice that we have 16 gigs of ram in this laptop let me get the camera position better all right so notice that we have this big 76 watt hour battery for a 14 inch laptop that's a pretty dang good size and we are paired with an AMD ryzen 9 7940hs CPR CPU and that CPU is a four nanometer manufactured at a four nanometer level it's very power efficient and I was definitely seeing some very impressive battery life on the initial kind of like just I unplugged it for a little while let it run I I 100 brightness it was gonna it was like basically 10 hours at 100 brightness idling so that is super impressive now we have a partially inverted motherboard we have 16 gigs of RAM soldered onto the motherboard by default but you have an empty sodium slot here so you can upgrade that and get even faster or even more RAM if you need more than 16. so just slap another 16 in here or a third 32 gig stick and you get up to 48 and I believe this is ddr5 4800 Ram I need to double check that and because it's ddr5 we should still have excellent performance even with only one stick of soldered ramps so that shouldn't impede our performance much if at all on this laptop and I'm not sure I believe this is a vapor chamber we can't really see the heat pipes layout or anything here uh let me just double check if this is a vapor chamber um I believe it is though so popping over to here and here is the first G14 we've got the technical specs here is the official page and this right here is my gaming laptop list for 2023 it is still being updated daily and it now has over 100 000 views so if you're shopping for laptops in 2023 please go ahead and use this list and if you use the links on this list it will help support me as a content creator and my team that helps manage this list now the ratings still need to be updated on this list but we have a ton of technical data on here like display size total volume width weight a bunch of benchmarks added with Benchmark sources and then if there's laptops that go on sale we're putting the sales and the best deals at the top of the list so the laptops that I recommend especially even at full price I will also be putting at the top of the list so just know that this is a resource that's here if you click on any of these it'll come up with more details and even pictures of the laptops so that's very important to note now the zephyrus G14 all right that's the laptop we're reviewing today if we pop down over here it says a Custom Vapor chamber with liquid metal and zero ambient cooling so so yes this is a vapor chamber with thermal Grizzly liquid metal and it says that the has Ultra efficient heat transfer the hottest parts of the machine with a coverage of 48 of the heat generating components The Vapor chamber allows the G14 to have 25 watts higher power budget Pershing performance to the Limit without increasing fan noise or chassis size now I believe that is accurate um but we'll have to actually see I didn't test the 2022 version so it's hard to have it perfectly Apples to Apples comparison but because of the vapor chamber basically we should be able to see additional performance for the CPU and the GPU especially when under a dual heavy load or when under a really heavy load on one of the components um because that is one of the best things about a vapor chamber is that you can basically really dial in and and give the full cooling potential to either the CPU or the GPU or both depending on the load and there's no like uh you know I loved shared heat pipe systems as well but sometimes not all the heat pipes are shared well in the vapor chamber scenario pretty much the full cooling is shared between the CPU and the GPU which is really great now we do also have the rm.2 slot right here looks like we have some thermal tape underneath here and uh looks like let me go ahead and show you the SSD that we got underneath there so looks like it's a Western Digital 512 gig all right this is the first Western Digital I've seen in a gaming laptop this year to the best of my knowledge um so yeah overall for upgradeability you don't have a second m.2 slot that is one of the downsides of this laptop for sure and then the fact that you can't upgrade the second sodium slot to give you a total of 64 gigs of RAM is also a downside but a fairly minor one because I think most people are going to be just fine with 48 gigs unless you have a very Ultra specific reason that you need 64. certainly for gaming and most video editing applications you're not going to need more than 32 so it's just going to really depend on which kind of applications you're trying to run on this guy but overall I really like the layout we have our two speakers right here but we have more speakers that are upward firing as well so this should have a fairly decent speaker system especially for the size of the laptop that we're looking at here all right so let's go ahead and get the bottom put back on we'll fire it up and we'll get testing some games all right and benchmarks in cinebench and display testing and all of that goodness beautiful so we're just going to press down all the way around try to get everything to pop back together and once you get most of the chassis pop back together you really want to get that pop-up screw so screwed back in and that's kind of the first screw I screw back in because otherwise it's kind of you're going to kind of be fighting that pop-up screw the whole time you're trying to uh put the laptop together because the pop-up screw is designed to help separate the chassis you know so now we're going to try to be very careful to put each of the screws back in the screw hole that they're that they go in like I said otherwise you can damage your laptop which you don't want to do let me go ahead and pull up the chat again can you test cinebench in battery only mode that's a great idea especially for this laptop in particular because a lot of people are going to need that on the Go performance and this ryzen chip should be very efficient when doing battery only mode so yeah I can definitely do some single runs with battery only mode for sure no problemo no problemosa okay Evel Smith says the best reviewer on YouTube thanks um I appreciate the kind words Raul says good to see you back yeah it's good to be back um I gotta Clear My Throat there yeah the um yeah I was just busy traveling uh for a little bit there and uh busy troubleshooting trying to do another video with a triple monitor display that didn't work out yet but I'm gonna still try to do that but yeah we've got a lot of videos planned for this week several live streams hopefully Legion 5 Pro and Legion Pro 7i both of those are planned for this week the the pro 7i is going to have an RTX 4090 and the legion 5 Pro I believe has an RTX 4070 if I remember correctly um okay so I believe that we are just gonna make sure that we're popped in all the way around looks like we have a nice firm connection all the way around and all of the screws are in and tight and we'll go ahead and put the rubber feet back in even though I wouldn't really recommend doing that necessarily if you own this laptop don't really do anything except for Aesthetics but they're back in now all right so there is the top of the laptop let's go and open it up there's the keyboard and while we're here we might as well go ahead and evaluate the keyboard and look at the functionality that it offers so we've got notice the arrow keys are fairly large but they also have home and page up and page down now you press the FN key on the left side in combination of the home and end or page up page down otherwise they'll act like normal arrow keys and this does work quite well and becomes quite intuitive once you get used to it so I like that setup now to the best of my knowledge this is not a fingerprint reader anymore it used to be a fingerprint reader um but yeah so that's important to note that this is no longer a fingerprint reader to the best of my knowledge now um I don't think I have the there we go all right so you can see that we have currently a white only backlit keyboard but it is a single zone RGB capable keyboard so you can change this to different colors if you want to go like blue or green or purple or something there's a lot of different colors that you can set this keyboard to I do like the white backlight on this keyboard but the tricky part is in certain types of lighting it sometimes is just easier to see the keys with the backlight off you can see how when you enable the backlight and it's all white white lighting it basically almost makes the keys more difficult to see now it was way worse on previous versions of the G14 but this is certainly still visible even in this kind of medium light with the light on it so that's not a problem anymore it used to be a big problem on the laptop but this design is still visible with the white backlight on the white keys though still you know it is better when you turn the light off in bright environments now if we go ahead and turn the lights in the room off you can get a better idea of what the backlight looks like it's quite lit up really well all of the secondary functions are lit up up along the top here and if I zoom in we can kind of look at them in more detail we've got microphone our volume up volume down uh at the top with Mike mute we also have the Asus Rog Armory crate button you can press that and it will launch the Armory crate application allowing you to control the laptop's performance profiles or change various settings on the left side you have an Escape key with a bit of spacing a fairly decent sized tilde key but it's a little bit smaller than a normal key and then the caps lock does have a secondary light function on it right there you can see that when you see you can easily tell that it's activated or not and then along the left over here we have a nice full size keys or very nearly full size keyboard that's going to be very easy to type on a bit of spacing between the F1 through 4 and the F5 through 8 and then F9 through 12 which makes it a little bit easier to see and use overall you can see that the keyboard Lighting in this medium lighting or like lower medium low I'd say this is like a this isn't a super dark room right now because I have all the lights on behind me all the rgba lights but uh this is a fairly lower lit room and you can really see the keys on this and the keyboard looks really good in this medium dark lighting now when you go into really bright environments you're not going to really be able to see the backlight almost at all and then in really dark environments the backlight is just going to look super bright and super good um and so just it's just going to really depend on the back lighting quality based on the environment that you're in basically all right um so overall I think the keyboard is excellent to type on let me zoom out the keyboard is excellent to type on and right there Windows hello picked up on my face and logged me in automatically you know um I have large hands and this keyboard feels great I think if you have smaller medium hands it's still going to feel really good so this is a keyboard I think a lot of people are really going to like it's not I would say the best keyboard in the world but I'd say it's like a nine out of ten and in terms of style it's not as rgbified let me go and change some RGB colors so I can hold FN and press the aura key and this changes what what the functionality is it was on static now it's on breathing now it's on strobing which I don't know why anyone would want to do that now it's on color cycle so this is where you can change it to shift between blue purple yellow orange green red you know so now it's going to just actively shift and transition between the colors of course I have this light behind me that's going crazy let me turn that off there you can see the the color cycle and you can also set it to be static on one of these colors if you just want it to be like a white and blue I think that would look really good or right white and green or whatever your favorite color is you can set that right here so uh and and it's going to be it's you have to go into the the Armory crate so if you set it to static it's going to be white but you can change what the static color is in the the software the Asus software all right and just for covering the special functionality keys of the laptop let's just talk about those for just a second you've got uh volume mute key brightness up and down and then of course the aura key to cycle what the keyboard backlight does you've got the performance fan profiles with F5 this changes it to Turbo performance and Silent if you want to go into manual mode you will need to use Armory crate to go into manual mode and we're of course going to be testing in manual mode today for our benchmarks you've got the clip button this is gonna like basically allow you to screenshot a specific area of the laptop you have brightness down brightness up and then you have your display output your keyboard so your touchpad disable button your windows sleep so you can put the laptop to sleep with the f11 or airplane mode with F12 so there's a lot of functionality here in your secondary keys I do like all of those all right so taking a look while we have all these lights off behind us let's go ahead and take a look at this display all right so it is a very vibrant very bright display and I I do this is I think this is the best display on a 14 inch laptop that we've seen so far it's High color gamut high amount of brightness supposed to be rated for 500 nits brightness and it is simply a gorgeous display I believe it's 120 hertz let me double check um going over here pulling up the specs let's go to [Music] technical specs yeah so it is a 165 Hertz response time so 165 Hertz with g-sync and advanced Optimus for quick switching so that is awesome it does also support Dolby Vision HDR content so that is obviously really really great and let me go ahead and open our image that's an all black image so you can see what the idea of the blacks look like and the backlight bleed so you can see uh right there we've got a little bit of light bleed in the bottom left so we got a little bit right here it's very minimal um but yeah I think this is the only area right here where I would say it's very noticeable to me um to my visual eye the right side yeah this I guess there's just a little bit there's just a little bit across the whole bottom uh panel here but it's it's very minimal except for in the corner here I think I would notice that in a dark movie um overall very good on the backlight bleed um let's go ahead and test the display and let me get the lights on in the room as well beautiful all right so we're also going to switch this over here [Music] all right so we're gonna get out my spider five Elite so this is a tool for testing the display quality the same one that I've been using for a long time now but it doesn't necessarily do the best job measuring the color gamuts in particular it kind of underestimates the color gamut that's my main complaint with it I do plan on getting another one working soon I just uh I need to find the time to actually test it and get it working properly I actually already bought one so okay so checking out the chat Laura full says I have the 2021 version I wish Asus added separate buttons for screen bright adjustments but they didn't um are you talking about uh the F7 and f8 does that so I'm not sure I'm not sure what you mean all right so I got to get the gotta get the uh license put in looking up the code here there it is all right so do do boom boom boom boom awesome so we are in let's go ahead and get into the display analysis we're going to do the color gamut and brightness tests so we're going to start with the color bright uh the brightness all the way set to Max um and guys if you can I would ask you to try to keep chat in generally in English um just because that's what most of my viewers are for for anyone that watches the VOD later um if you're interested in chatting in other languages that we do have a Discord Link in the description I encourage you to go on there for that chat uh evil logic says how to fix rtx40 546470 not reaching the full wattage please tackle this issue um I don't know if you're gonna ever be able to fix that because that's gonna be limited by Nvidia unless you uh kind of Flash the V BIOS with a full watt version or hack the driver in some way which I don't think most people will want to do and it might void your warranty you know if you end up doing that right so that's very important to know oh my God says by the way the 2021 version kind of sucks 30 60 with 60 watts is trash uh yeah it's not it it's gonna get your basic gaming in you know but you're gonna have to set a lot of settings down compared to this year's version this year's version should have so much better performance overall and the the display on this year's version is awesome comparatively speaking um and you know it's this this 2023 version of the G14 is just a huge step up you know the windows hello with a webcam as well that is that is another huge like quality of life Improvement if you're the kind of person that needs to use a webcam a lot um and then of course this new this new AMD ryzen processor should provide even better battery life than the 2021 version um and then you have the RTX 4000 series which is just a really power efficient um graphics card series and the RTX 4060 and this thing should just be awesome to to use and play games with even at QHD plus resolution you might have to set some settings down especially textures textures are going to be kind of like the Achilles heel of this guy for games like Last of Us or Hogwarts um so that's kind of what the main downside of the RTX 40 40 50 40 60 and 40 70. um 40 80 and 40 90 you get much more vram and therefore you can you can use full textures and a lot more games at QHD so if you can't afford a 4080 or 40 90 version of this laptop that would probably be the number one reason to do that to go to jump up to that TS says Hey after spending a few months with your blade 18 how does it feel I'd like to purchase it but I'm afraid of negative reviews of Razer support uh thank you so much for the five uh pound or Euro I'm not sure which symbol that is uh donation the Super Chat it does mean a lot thank you so much for the support so um the blade 18 has been phenomenal except for uh basically my only complaint about it has been the flickering issue um because the flickering issue basically it kind of it sucks right when you're it was a big problem then they fixed it and then the recent bios update kind of actually unfixed it and I saw some flickering here and there um and so I'm not sure about the latest ones I haven't updated or checked from the last two weeks but I just noticed there was some flickering last time I was using it now we'll have to actually I don't know that's that's very annoying problem and the addition apart the additional part of the knowing problem with the blade 18 uh flickering issue is that it prevents you from using Advanced Optimus properly because you have to be in Nvidia GPU dedicated only mode to avoid the flickering issue um and I haven't done I haven't been driven enough to do enough testing to see if it's been fixed in the non-optimist or or Optimus switching mode so that was kind of my main complaint with the blade 18 but as far as performance sound quality display quality Port selection uh touch pad keyboard I've been in love with the blade 18 it's been phenomenal I've really enjoyed my blade 18s overall I've really enjoyed it despite the flickering issue all right so taking a look at our results for the G14 100 srg beam ninety percent Adobe RGB 88 of the P3 color gamut and it's very important to keep in mind that my spider 5 Elite tends to underestimate the Adobe and P3 color gamuts and srgb but we did hit 100 srgb because it kind of over covers it under brightness and contrast we got 22 knits at the zero brightness setting with 22 100 to 1 uh with contrast ratio at 100 brightness it got rated at 427 nits and 920 to 1. now this is certainly a bit below what Asus claims they claim it's going to be 500 nits brightness so that's a little bit disappointing to see that it's not over the 500 nits brightness range but I mean it's still very good I just wish it was what it was rated for right like we all we all want that um so overall very bright uh displayed that'll work quite well I wonder if there's any kind of display settings you can fiddle with to improve the brightness a little bit higher I'm not sure usually the brightness rating on the spider 5 Elite is usually pretty accurate so I don't know why this is under shooting by a bit we also saw under shooting on and brighten its brightness on some of the other Asus laptops the strix G18 also only got below 500 and the scar 18 also was below 500 I believe so um yeah anyway so that's the display quality very good 165 Hertz display and let me go ahead and unplug it it's still excellent overall so essentially what this means for display quality is that since my Spotify Elite underestimates uh the display quality by I don't know eight to nine percent or maybe a little bit more a little bit less than that we're really looking at like a display that can uh is probably like 95 plus Adobe RGB 997 98 probably Adobe RGB and P3 color gamut somewhere in that range um which is absolutely excellent It's phenomenally colorful let's take a quick look at some HDR uh footage so I try to show this same footage for each laptop so you can kind of get an idea of what it looks like and here we are extremely colorful extremely vibrant I really really like it I think I think the vast majority of people are going to be very happy with this the primary difference I think between this and the mini LED is going to be the mini LED is a little bit brighter and it's also going to have better contrast ratio so you're going to give it a bit punchier um blacks and a bit punchier brightness on the mini LED version and then I think I think the the main downside to them in the LED if you went with the mini LED is that you're going to have blooming which has a little halo effect like on white objects or bright objects on dark backgrounds so the the blooming is going to be your primary issue if you try to go with with um the mini LED display overall I still think the mini LED display would be worth it for most people now let's go ahead and do cinebench R23 but first we got to configure and make sure we're in the right power profile so this is Armory crate this right here is where you can set your power profile in the bottom left you zoom in just a little bit more so power profile on the bottom left we have silent which is going to basically mute the fans and make it a zero decibel uh overall experience but it's also going to severely limit your performance level performance mode is going to have moderate fan noise you're probably going to hear it a little bit but it won't be very annoying or very loud for other people in a room but you still get like the vast majority of performance out of the machine turbo mode tries to give you close to the maximum possible performance of the machine manual mode is designed to give you every ounce of performance that the laptop can put out so we're going to be testing in manual mode we're going to set our power limits to the maximum both for the CPU we're going to do 80 Watts for the short power limit 80 Watts for the long power limit and we're going to set our fans to 100 percent so they're never going to slow down we're going to get the best possible temperatures and for our GPU we're going to keep our overclock to the to the basic 5100 and we're going to set our Dynamic boost to the full 25 watt Dynamic boost and we're going to set our thermal Target at up to 87 degrees which is going to allow the GPU to go to the maximum possible performance and then the GPU fan is going to be set to 100 as well now in order to activate our settings we're going to hit apply and it gives you a little bit of a warning here that if you change too much things you can harm your Hardware but all the things that I just changed should not harm the hardware to the best of my knowledge I'm going to go ahead and just clean up a couple things on the desk here and we're going to close a couple applications and I can hear the fans spinning up but they're not that loud surprisingly it's it's really minimal fan noise so cinebench R23 we're going to get that firing up and we're going to do um manual mode Max fans we're going to pull up HW info this is going to give us a great idea of the CPU performance of the machine at least a good Baseline for its approximate performance compared to the other laptops on the market we'll start one of these and we'll go into process last so and we're just going to make sure cinebench has an above normal priority all right and we're going to go to Advanced we're going to set this to off all right beautiful okay so let's find out what we get all right so we're going to start with I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead and Elevate the back of the laptop about a half inch with my external SSD I do this with all the laptops that I test for fairness it's very easy to elevate the back of your laptop if you uh if you want to and I definitely recommend it for additional airflow so let's go ahead and start a single run close some of these extra applications here we go let's find out what we get so this is the first test I have done with this processor you can see that we're pulling the full 80 watts of power interesting you can see the Core Power for each of the cores zoom in a little bit here so you can see and let me expand this a little bit our core effective clocks you can see we're doing 4.78 gigahertz on all cores uh 4.73 4.75 is our average so far that is really good we have an 8 core 16 thread CPU in this guy it's the ryzen 9 7940hs which is going to be extremely power efficient so we got 17 125. let's run it again all right so I'm checking chat while we're doing this um ziflexi says what's the best RTX 4080 gaming laptop um I would say the RTX 4080 gaming laptops there's a lot of really good options out there but you've got to like really think about uh what you want do you want something more portable do you want something more powerful for your money uh is your are you more budget limited or do you want to go for something that offers the most premium experience I think the best RTX 4080 laptop um if you have an unlimited budget is probably something like the maybe the Razer Blade 18 is probably the one I would choose if you're someone who's more on a budget then I would say something like the omen 17 is an excellent choice the strix G18 could potentially be an excellent choice as long as you don't get coil wine um the legion Pro 7i also a very good choice and if you're looking for something that has the most possible performance in a 4080 then you're probably looking at something like the xmg Neo 17 RTX 4080 so those are kind of my initial thoughts off the top of my head but you know it's kind of like what's the best bang for the buck under three thousand dollars I would say the best bang for the buck is probably going to be the omen 17 with an RTX 4090 because you can get that for under three thousand so we're hitting 17 353 uh non-stop let's take a look at our temperatures now that we have ran several tests in a row our CPU package temp is hitting 95 degrees so we are basically thermal throttling at 95 degrees we are also not hitting the full 80 Watts anymore so that's very important to note um that we're basically hitting that thermal threshold and that the laptop's actually not quite capable of sustaining 80 watts of power non-stop now if I think if you had a cooling pad under this laptop it probably wouldn't hit that 80 Watts because you're going to be able to hit 95 you won't hit the 95 degree thermal cap nearly as easily or quickly so now let's notice that we're hitting the 16700 points range let's go ahead and unplug the laptop I have unplugged the laptop now and there goes Nvidia Optimus we are in silent mode um and also battery boost it just turned off the screen and switched it to 60 hertz to increase battery life very important if you want to maximize your battery life notice that it automatically put us into silent mode we don't want to be in silent mode we want to be in the fastest performance mode so if we rotate we got performance and Silent performance or silence so when you're on battery life you got the two profile options we're going to be in performance right now for this test let's go ahead and see what we get in a single run and see what kind of wattage range that it pulls when under battery only mode so right now it's doing 31 watts of power in battery only mode we are doing 3.38 gigahertz approximately 3.4 gigahertz and notice that you know when we were in full Power Max plugged in we were doing 4.7 so we've lost about 1.4 4 gigahertz across all of the cores but this is still a very high clock speed for only 31 Watts like that is very high clock speed for 31 Watts that is incredibly power efficient um so I'm thinking our score is going to be still probably 12 13 000 maybe let's find out we're almost done with the first run let's go ahead and run it like two or three times and see what we sustain also now that we're unplugged I can tell you the fans are barely audible right now in performance mode like it is like my my other fan out there is basically louder so we got 12 873 phenomenal for a battery only super portable fairly quiet machine uh notice the CPU package power is doing 30.1 Watts so again 31 Watts right here and our temperatures are only 63 degrees we're doing 3.4 gigahertz across all of the cores it's actually a little bit higher now which is very interesting um I suppose if you were to under volt this you might get even a little bit more performance out of it which is that's also very interesting to me so wow now we're doing 3.5 gigahertz interesting 3.3 3.2 um the performance is kind of jumping around a little bit only pulling 27.2 Watts um interesting Don Don says there is no 7945 HX model no that is a 16 core 32 thread part and no you're only going to be able to get the eight core 16 thread um four nanometer processors in this lineup so we got 12 104 and let's do it run run it one more time and see what we get again we're trying to look for what our sustained uh wattage and clock speed are so it may take a little bit to update but notice that we are getting 2.99 gigahertz across all of the cores now also I should probably zoom in a little bit so you can see this a little bit better um so we went from 3.5 at the high range to now 3.0 on our all core clock speed and let's see what our sustained um power limit is in battery only mode if we can HW info is not responding very well um when we're on battery mode well just in general because of process last so uh so we're now doing 3.2 which is good uh it's getting closer to the 3.3 that we were at initially also our package power right now is 26 Watts which is it's quite insane that we're getting this higher clock speed on such a low wattage that is insane so we got 11 545 for our third battery life only test that's obviously going to let you edit videos on the go you're going to be able to render videos um and just fine with only 31 watts of power so we're plugged in now let's go ahead and I guess we're gonna stop this we got to open Armory crate and we got to set it to manual fan mode for our 10 minute test we'll see what we get when we thermal throttle okay so it actually went back into manual fan mode automatically when we plugged the laptop back in that's very nice uh because you know a lot of people are going to want to use the manual fan mode with this laptop and if it can automatically switch between performance mode and uh manual mode when you plug it in or unplug it then that's makes it just easier um okay so let's go ahead and pull up HW info and we'll reset our averages for the 10 minute test you can do it HW info uh some place YouTube did this come out just come out yeah basically it just came out uh very recently okay so we have reset our averages right now we're doing 4.64 gigahertz across all cores LSP says you can theoretically play games with the 100 watt power delivery with this laptop oh yeah I'm pretty confident you could do that uh it's just question mark of how how much power the CPU and the GPU get uh going back and forth so because it really has to thermally limit them pretty hard to be able to get uh within the right power limit ranges uh Salem says did you check the BIOS are there any good settings uh the CPU is so new um I have not checked the BIOS bios Salem but I'm I believe I'm on the current bios I did the Windows update and Asus always does Windows updates through our does the BIOS updates through Windows update yeah so we should be good on the BIOS but I get that you're kind of curious about the actual settings we I don't think we'll have any undervolting options inside of there but you can still use um the curve Optimizer to undervolt I might actually end up doing another video on how to undervolt and overclock the zephyrus G14 if you guys are interested in that and we can kind of compare performance uh before and after I think that'd be interesting um Diamond play says stop ignoring me I'm not ignoring you I never got I I asked you to email me I believe and I never got an email man and you gotta if you're gonna yell like that in chat I will just ban you so you got to take a step back uh don don says gotta go really good stream and laptop thanks man for stopping by I appreciate you um says can I buy the 4060 SKU with the mini LED option or do I have to buy the 4070 as the minimum version that comes with mini LED as opposed to the IPS screen same question for the one terabyte SSD so busu skin you can always um buy an upgraded SSD if that's your primary concern but for the mini LED option I believe you're going to have to uh I believe you're going to have to get at least if you're trying to buy it from like Best Buy or some major retailer you're going to need to go with um the the base level config that starts coming with the mini LED now Asus might offer additional configurations where the mini LED could come with a weaker GPU on other stores or maybe directly from the Asus store but uh typically speaking most of the time you just got to go with whatever config is available at the price points that you're looking at and pairings that you're looking at because they're they're specifically paired typically um based on what Asus thinks is going to sell the best at the best price points um H2O play says I saw one for 13.90 after tax he says MSI Vector GP 66 370 TI with a 12700h um I think that's a decent deal at 13.99 I wouldn't call it an amazing deal uh it depends on what display and SSD that comes with for that price point if it has a good size SSD and a really good display then that's a that's a pretty good deal uh Salem bed Jack says I would love that optimization uh video yeah like I think I think undervolting and overclocking this laptop uh could really boost performance so uh H2O play says it's got a one terabyte SSD and a 1440p 165hz display yeah I think H2O I think that it's probably a decent deal if you're interested in that it's I wouldn't call it an amazing deal just because the Vector series also is not that premium of a series so you know for that series I feel like a good deal is more like 1300 probably with those specs but overall it's still I think it's still a pretty good deal if that's if that's the laptop you're most interested in um Brad Allen says I'm curious about the mini LED 2. gotcha uh yeah Diamond I don't I don't think I've gotten an email about gaming from gaming Jalen's I'll go ahead and check but you might want to try sending it from another email yeah I just searched my Gmail and I have nothing from you so like I'm not trying to dodge you or anything like that if you're if you want to get I would say like I said I would try I would try another email maybe Gmail is bammed your banned your account or something I don't know um but yeah I haven't I haven't gotten an email from you H2O play says I'm mainly looking for raw performance and seeing that it's a fully powered 3070 TI I'm considering it gotcha yeah um for raw performance at for raw performance and future proofing I would say to go with uh like if you're looking at under 1500 I would say you either go with something like a 40 70 or 40 60 under 1500 like there was an omen 17 sale recently that brought the omen 17 with a 4070 and a QHD display down to almost 1500 which is really good um and then on the flip side if you want to be more future proof on vram you could also go with something like the RTX 3080 because we've seen a number of laptops go right down to 1500 with an RTX 3080 and that's going to have 16 gigs of vram for a better future proofing for textures so if you want to focus more on frame generation then go with a 4000 series if you want to focus more on vram future proofing then go with something like a 3080 that has the 16 gigs of vram um yeah Diamond I didn't get anything in my Gmail H2O plays gotcha yeah that vram is quite valuable I've seen yeah it can you know G uh vram can really uh limit your frame rate and cause stuttering in your one percent lows which kind of makes your game play a bit jittery especially if it gets really bad so uh that's why having high amounts of vram for especially 4K gaming or QHD gaming can be very beneficial now at 1080p I think eight gigs of vram is enough for basically almost everything still certain games you'll still need to turn it down somewhat like medium or something but uh very rarely you have to set it to low for your vram LSP says a Radeon 780m that's yeah that's the igpu in this and I'm curious also as well and how well that performs um because it might actually be enough to play especially lighter weight titles uh and be very power efficient um turbo man says do laptop gpus refresh every year at CES typically Nvidia launches a new segment of laptop gpus they either launch the ti versions which push the graphics up about 10 percent usually each year or they launch a new generation every other year so going from the 3000 Series to the 4000 series which is what happened this jump and it usually when they jump a generation it's a bit of a bigger performance Gap usually about 30 percent but this year the jump from a 3080 TI to a 40 90 in terms of the best GPU versus best GPU it was an even bigger jump it was closer to 50 performance gain um this year now the other performance gains for the the middle and lower tier gpus there's a lot of variation between them um so you gotta you really gotta do a lot of research to understand whether it's worth going with like a 3070 TI or a 4070 because the Raw performance is very similar but you have frame generation on one and you might have to pay more for the 4070 versus the 3070 TI for example so you got to really like weigh the pros and cons and do your research what happened to the supers LOL yeah they didn't really they pretty much dropped them as a marketing gimmick so so taking a look we're down to the last 30 seconds of this Benchmark we have averaged four point let me make sure that you guys can see we have averaged 4.53 gigahertz across all 16 threads uh which is really really good we're hitting 95 degrees Celsius non-stop which is not ideal and that shows you that if you use a laptop cooler you could probably almost for sure boost the performance of this machine because we're basically being throttled at 68 Watts because of the temperatures here so with a with I would expect a nice performance bump if you had a thermal um like cooling pad that has additional airflow now our 10 minute test was 17 000 and 19 points that's very good for a super portable 8 core CPU it's not the best on the market if you were to go with something like the rate uh the ryzen 979 945 HX you're getting more like 34 000 in a 10 minute test which is obviously about double because you're doubling the amount of cores and threads so that makes sense um let's that gives you I think a really good idea for the CPU performance let's move on to some gaming now um I'd like to go ahead and do I've got a lot of games here installed let's go ahead and hop into 3dmark and we'll run time spy right away here at the beginning and then we'll move into uh Apex Legends we got I'm going to try to do at least 10 games today we've got a lot of games that we can test I'm gonna try to do a good variety of them and so we can see some AAA games a couple Esports games and uh see the performance especially with this CPU and maybe a couple of the CPU bound games uh did you lift the laptop yes I did we are we are currently lifted about um we're currently lifted about a half inch or so off the back let's go ahead and lower our camera a little bit and looks like we need to install time spy let's do that real quick foreign I want to mention as well that our download speed has been just phenomenal um with this laptop I was getting I think I saw a peak of like 87 megabits per second we're bumping up to 70 right now I do have gigabit internet here that gets about 900 and something in a uh down down and up test so it's really really good internet here at the house so just know that there's um really good Wi-Fi and it's been really consistent without any issues which is really good like that's kind of like my goal or ideal setup right I want it to be I definitely want it to be very good because I you know not all of the laptops can get up to 87 on my download like when I download a lot of games every time I set a laptop up and typically speaking I would say uh a lot of the laptops only get up to um 60 55 60. for the download speeds and so that's just like Wi-Fi and drivers and stuff like that so it's 60 is still very very good but um the the two fastest Wi-Fi tests that I've seen so far is on the blade 16 and the zephyrus G14 so just wanted to mention that says did you do you have Speedway I do not 87 is amazing yeah that's really good uh do you think meteor Lake will come out in 2023 for laptops I'm not sure sure I haven't I haven't been following the leaks and rumors yet um around um you know the different CPUs that are coming out so not sure but I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out at CES next year Intel has been kind of doing that kind of yearly update at CES lately so if I were to guess off my cuff off the cuff I would say it's most likely going to be a CES so uh right away here I'm seeing 110 watts of power to the GPU I think I saw 114 113 right there 114 this is a higher wattage than we were seeing with the zephyrus g16 RTX 4060 this is a very good initial impression um though it's not quite you know 125. it's it's still not quite pushing 125. though um you know time spy does use a fairly high amount of power on the CPU hey there's 115 116 on the Jeep 117 on the GPU okay we're getting closer and closer to 125. um oh now we're dropped around 110 but still uh I love to see that we're getting higher than 100 which is kind of where the zephyrus g16 was hitting pretty often so kind of impressive GPU performance here at least in the initial impression um though still under a little bit under spec of what I would love to see uh Todoroki says the Zenbook 14 pro 4070 is a better all-arounder than the G14 interesting uh interesting take todroki I'd have to take a closer look at it what is the display that the Zenbook 14 comes with uh swiftronics says Hi I recently bought the 4080 version for 2259 is that the best price currently for a 4080 laptop also could I have upgraded the screen for forty dollars and upgrade to the RTX 4090 for 500. oh should I have upgraded the screen for 40 and upgraded the screen upgrades the 40 94 50. hmm interesting swifttronic that's a good deal I think it you so you you bought the omen 17. okay so the omen 17. I was like I thought you're talking about the zephyrus G14 I was like the zephyrus G14 is that cheap what where um so uh yeah I know I think I think you got a great deal overall I think you could have upgraded to the 4090 version for 500 more um but I think you still got a great all-around deal I think so I wouldn't I certainly wouldn't sweat it oh look at that we're getting 120 watts I just popped I just checked almost a full 125. I wonder if it was hitting 125 121 122. it was like 12 121.8 so we almost hit the full 125 watts and part of the time spy test uh I love that still not quite the full 125 but I think in some games we're probably gonna actually be able to hit that 125 watt level the ones that are just extremely GPU bound uh moo says would playing at 1080p on QHD screen going to be okay visually um the bigger the screen like if you do like a 30 inch screen and you try to play 1080p on a 30 inch QHD display it's going to be hugely noticeable but typically speaking if you try to jump down to um q a 1080P or maybe on this screen you actually go down to 1200p um 10 that's the equivalent to full HD because it's 16 by 10. um it's not going to be that noticeable I don't think uh it it'll be a just a tiny bit fuzzy but in motion gameplay it'll be very minimally noticeable I think so our Graphics score 10 528 very good extremely good for a thinner laptop CPU score 10 960. very nice um let me quickly check the live stream feed and also just do a quick examination of some of the temps that we were seeing um popping in here what's our temperatures like so our attempts were actually 80 degrees on the GPU 81 so it did get a bit spicier than some of the thicker laptops that's a downside um I didn't know what the CPU temps were because it currently it's not being displayed I want to see what the CPU attempts are though so we're going to pop into HW info and let's go down here to our package power and we'll enable this value and we're also going to go to our temperature and we're going to enable this value as well so our additional numbers that we're going to be popping up are going to be are there going to be from the CPU temperatures so let's go and hop into Apex Legends and see how we're doing swifttronic asks is there actually a noticeable difference between a 240 hertz monitor compared to 165 Hertz if you're a Casual Gamer I don't think you're going to be able to notice the difference because a lot of like the AAA games are going to play probably aren't even going to hit 240 hertz anyway if you're an Esports gamer and you you're really serious about your Esports gaming experience then I think you will notice a difference I certainly can notice a difference between 165 Hertz and 240 hertz in the games that can easily hit 240 hertz that's the key you know if you're if you're gonna you know look at if you're looking at Apex Legends or fortnite you're going to be able to hit the 240 hertz refresh rate most of the time you play versus you know if you're gonna If You're Gonna Play uh Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 uh that game is probably not gonna go above 165 FPS anyway because it's very CPU bound um in a lot of the games a lot of the areas of the game and uh so the vast majority of the time you just won't notice the difference uh between the 165 Hertz display and a 240 hertz so it just depends on your application what games you're playing and how sensitive to you are to refresh rates okay so we need to restart the game because I added uh I raised the the FPS Max to v300 can you try cyberpunk 2077 and Ray tracing overdrive mode yeah yeah I probably I probably could I haven't tried it yet I wonder if visually you can even tell the difference I have seen some some pretty cool um examples where you could it was pretty noticeable I thought um at least in certain areas of the game but I haven't actually done any testing myself okay so um oh you know what we didn't test yet we haven't tested the speaker quality but let's finish testing Apex because you know we're already partially into it all right so here we are we are currently gonna so we're gonna set everything to we're sending everything to Max settings initially [Music] and we're gonna pop into the firing range and we're going to see what we get and then we're gonna switch to low settings and actually play the game massive L says 120 hertz 16x10 OLED on the Zenbook Pro is crazy especially since it's glossy I bet you it looks really good but I'm definitely I would definitely I think for me I would rather get on 165 Hertz mini LED display you know um Okay so look in here we're about to do this and move this back okay so I haven't played Apex in a little while so I'm going to be a bit Rusty gotta change a couple of these buttons okay all right so right now we're doing a hundred 108 you know ultra settings is fairly taxing yeah we're hitting 100 GPU utilization our CPU package temperature is 77 only 21 watts of power but uh our GPU utilization 108. that's very good we're getting a lot of GP utilization you know it's important to recognize that we're at QHD resolution all right so let's go ahead and set everything so we averaged 108 our one percent lows 97. that is really good the fact that it's like a huge percentage of our one percent lows all right so our goal is to get at least 165 Hertz in this test all right all right yeah I can see that there's there's no ghosting on this display to the best of my knowledge it feels very responsive very easy to aim I just haven't I haven't been able to play Apex lately all right uh one thing I do want to point out is that we are currently doing 117 Watts to the GPU wow also we're doing 86 degrees the temperature on the GPU which means that we're basically thermal throttling or very close to Thermal throttling the thermal throttle point is actually 87. but we're within one degree of it so it's probably being thermal throttle okay so this is very good aiming experience very responsive excellent gaming experience overall let's hop into a match um swifttronic says thanks for doing answer my questions by the way and doing these reviews no problem um all right we can try A Team Deathmatch Clark Kent says this generation the gaming desktops are 70 faster than the gaming laptops with the same labeled specs uh I don't think so Clark um I think you got a I I don't I really don't think that that's accurate a 40 90 desktop's not 70 faster than a 40 90 laptop um you know I think I think you're looking at a much smaller difference uh I think Jared Jarrett's Tech did a direct side-by-side comparison between a 490 desktop and laptop and it was uh not nearly as big as a 70 Gap especially at 1080P or QHD which then becomes very CPU limited and our CPUs right now in laptops are a lot closer to desktop CPUs than almost ever before um like the I9 13980 HX is is very similar in terms of gaming performance compared to some of the desktop CPUs out there so um Clark says his conclusion was 70 I'll have to check but I think especially at 1080p it was not 70 if I if I'm remembering correctly yeah I'm not getting uh I didn't get any email diamond okay so here we are let's go ahead and do this one all right I've reset the reset the FPS counter this is spicy it's very uh juicy initial fight here oh we got annihilated by like three people at once okay I'm gonna have to scooch this over I need a little more aim space recharging my Shields seeing if I can flank anybody over here maybe my teammates uh killed them all already looks like they did [Applause] goodness gracious we almost died oh come on somebody stole my kill oh maybe I shouldn't be using an r99 right now foreign yeah we got one I knew I couldn't I knew I couldn't really reload there it's all good okay resetting this I moved to the camera a little bit okay uh okay so checking chat let's check in with you guys uh how does this compare to a 3070 TI laptop uh 370 TI laptop's definitely going to have faster raw power especially for the money um this does have frame generation so you know in frame generation games you're definitely going to get more FPS foreign man I'm doing some damage but I'm not getting very many kills um this is this is working really really well um our resolution is definitely going to be a bit of a hindrance in the sense that like it's going to be harder to push QHD frames as consistently you know um so I think it's very important to recognize when you go with this laptop that you're gonna you're gonna gonna need to uh be a bit more generous with your settings than you would if you were um you know like by generous I mean set your settings a little bit lower interesting I was like where'd that guy go found him okay so um overall this is a very good game uh gaming laptop for Apex Legends I mean I would be happy with this experience um given the fact that I'm not quite hitting the max frame rate um but obviously if you're super competitive I I mean if I was buying the G14 I would buy the probably the 4090 version of it um because I would have the money for that but I totally understand that some people won't you know and if you get the 4060 version I think you're still gonna have a good experience in a lot of these games but it's just not going to be as good as the 40 70 40 80 version because the amount of uh raw FPS you're getting it's just not going to quite push QHD frames perfectly you know my team is annihilating this other team this this Pathfinder is pretty good oh you got me good all right so uh overall very good experience in Apex Legends let's move on to Call of Duty Modern Warfare uh war zone 2 and see how it does in this very CPU bound game um which version of GPU is this this is the RTX 4060 variant Clark Kent says I like to keep my 3D resolution of view distance settings at 100 but turn other settings lower if needed um yeah that's a pretty good idea generally speaking but you know we're doing native resolution QHD on all those settings and we're not quite pushing uh 165 Hertz on the refresh rate at least in that map I think other maps are maybe a little bit less demanding um so it's really going to vary a lot from from area to area Muhammad Muhammad says neat is this one is this the one without the mini LED right yes this has the uh I believe the IPS display together so um we'll need to restart we might have to sign a couple of like agreements here too we'll see okay it's restarting uh antibis says could I run pubg at 200 FPS on QHD um I'm not sure I haven't tried running pubg in a long time um but I'm I'm confident it could go over 100 FPS at QHD but I'm not sure if it could push over 200. um possibly especially on all low settings or very low settings you know a lot of people in Pub G play on low settings because it lets you see through like foliage and stuff like that better um and and makes people you know stand out against other objects more starkly as well so okay so taking a look at what we're doing we got 165 Hertz refresh rate 1600 P resolution uh we're gonna set it to minimum specs we want dlss on quality and we'll set textures to high I believe all of that is correct we're going to apply the settings all right beautiful now we're going to go down to warzone 2. if we can we're gonna do Battle Royale solos there it goes let's go and hop into a match now still haven't done the speaker test I realized um and I also I want to mention that I I did not really hear any spatial audio in Apex Legends either it was very um just general audio um it's you know some people are going to be really disappointed by that some people won't really care about that because they're going to use headphones anyway like the blade 18 has really good spatial audio but it's still not as good as spatial audio as uh actually using headphones so headphones um I think are still required for competitive games but the spatial audio in casual games is very noticeable and really awesome so um who says I love you like la la la yeah Mahmoud says uh any coil wine so far no I haven't I have not uh I have not heard any coil wine how are the fans sounding I'll go and mute the sound here let you hear the fans a little bit oh wait maybe I am hearing a little coil line yeah I think I am hearing some coil line uh when I listen carefully put my head a little bit closer um but you can hear the fans they're actually I think a bit quieter than most of the laptops uh out there I would say these are probably about 55 decibels to 56 decibels if I were to guess I really needed I need to buy another decibel meter and so I can do like uh more technical uh more technical measurements or whatever uh what's up ninja boss boss and boss thank you guys for being members appreciate you uh are you testing games with integrated GPU on or off uh we're in dedicated GPU mode right now so it should be all uh Nvidia GPU only okay so we're about to get into this match I think in terms of competitive Esports gaming if you're going to use this laptop for that you'd want to expect to kind of sit pretty close even for casual games you know it's only a 14 inch display so so that's pretty much what you got to expect [Applause] oh that was not a person on the ground LOL oh you got me um are you getting the legion 7i anytime soon for testing yeah uh I ordered one uh like a week and a half ago or so and uh I have got uh it should be arriving like today or tomorrow and so we should be able to do a pro 7i with an RTX 49d uh review like this week so really cool wow these speakers are very loud I'm having to talk very loud over these speakers right now I'm gonna turn the speakers down a little bit very immersive is the transition from 16 to 14 significant I think the 16 just lets you sit a little bit further back from the machine uh you know from the laptop which I I really like that you can sit a little further back so right now we're doing like 93 95 FPS uh We've averaged 95 the whole time we've been in which is is quite good but it's it's not as good as like what we get on the I9 right like the I9 uh Intel I9 is doing closer to 140 to 155 or so and so in this exact same scenario so here we are we're running down the same highway road or whatever we're doing 85 our one percent lows are decent at 60 right now but still for low settings this is not amazing you know like like this is certainly playable it's smooth it's fairly reactive but uh it's going to be a big performance difference if you were to go for an expensive Intel laptop versus this one uh I'm gonna try switching my gun to this one okay that's pretty good all right let's see here just gonna kind of run around a little bit see if we can shoot somebody or not and sometimes people land near us sometimes they don't I kind of try to look at the same the same area of the maps in the same area of the game so we can get hey we managed to get a kill all right overhead so overall this is going to be a good experience in Warzone especially for a really Ultra portable laptop but it definitely is not as good of an experience you know it's clearly an inferior experience compared to the I9 or even the higher end 7945 HX which was getting uh like 125 to 135 FPS in these same areas of the game good trying to challenge someone to come out and shoot me someone come kill me you know I like the fact that our one percent low is basically like a 60 FPS because that's going to mean that uh the overall gameplay smoothness and frame rate is going to be very good there are now strongholds in this game I don't know what that means but cool please okay taking a look at our temperatures we are hitting 95 degrees Celsius on the CPU which is very hot that's basically thermal throttling our GPU is not being utilized at 100 percent uh we are basically being CPU bound and CPU thermal throttled in this game so if you were to get a cooling pad I would say you probably get a few more FPS in this game because then the CPU would be able to push a little bit higher wattage and you get a little bit better performance overall so averaging 82 FPS so far in this game um yay okay someone killed us all right so 82 FPS 56 for a one percent low I like it overall I think it's going to be a very good experience for the laptop category but I think you're going to get better performance in war zone 2 if you are a war zone player and you want to get the most FPS going something like the stealth 14 I think it had more FPS in Warzone because it was an Intel chip all right checking out uh checking out the chat here Clark Kent says I'm so used to fortnite when someone tries to shoot me in other games I press the vertical wall button and get shot oh yeah I got you here it's like you're building instincts kick in and you die uh because you can't build uh adibos says would you pick Intel or AMD for a gaming laptop um so if you want the mix of like better battery life that's really where I think AMD has a big leg up over Intel um this year uh so the better battery life is really the primary reason to choose ryzen because it can have just better battery efficiency but um for for actual gaming performance if that is your focus and you're okay with like you know more like four to six hours of battery life what you're gonna get with Intel typically you know like I think with this laptop you're gonna get like really good performance on your battery life more like seven to ten hours of battery life in web browsing um you know which is gonna obviously be a lot more I'm definitely hearing some uh coil wine on this Asus G14 or maybe oh it's not coil line I'm not hearing coil line what I'm hearing is the fan I'm hearing the fan um kind of like uh the bottom of the laptop's being pressed I think by the SSD underneath it and it's causing um you know it's causing the uh the edge of the fan to kind of brush up against the I guess the you know the bottom of the laptop the you know the underside so when I don't press on the bottom of the laptop I'm not hearing anything um so that's good I was like worried we're getting coil wine but it's we're not getting any coin all right so as far as I can tell all right so here we are CS go QHD we're obviously looking for over 165 Hertz on the display um but uh this is going to give you an idea of how the ryzen 97945 HS actually performs in CS go it's obviously a fairly lightweight title I'm very curious about Counter-Strike 2. I think that game is going to be really awesome um really looking forward to it um 300 FPS so far 250 approximately hitting the 300 mark right around 300 very good performance overall one of the key things we're looking for in CS go is what's the performance like when we go through the smoke so right here in a moment when we turn around now we're getting about 180 60 down to 45 and now back up so that that bottleneck as you go through the smoke is usually where you get the lowest FPS now the new Counter-Strike 2 which is about to come out here later this year that should have much better performance inside of smokes as far as I know um we'll actually have to see but right there you can see we we once again dropped fairly low on the FPS in CS go and that's because of the CPU being a bit bottlenecked that's the primary reason so when you're looking at this laptop if you're a CS go player know that uh you're going to have bigger drops in fps uh with the ryzen chip here than you would if you had an Intel based laptop so so yeah if we are on all high settings I'm not sure maybe the settings would be a little bit better if you're on Lower settings not sure okay so our average FPS was 296.75 so 297 FPS if we round up at QHD resolution obviously very good very within playable range but just know that you typically could get over 240 FPS in CS go on this laptop if you use like an external Monitor and you want to push 240 hertz uh refresh rate with an external monitor that's entirely possible that's some heavy smoke oh good with a winky face I think you're making a drug joke I like it uh z-ball says I'm traveling always and leaving out of my country so for me having properly cooled and powered laptop with good software is just sweet yeah ARP says stealth 14 with a 40 60 is better than this question mark um so I'm not going to say which one's better or worse at this point but I will say the stealth 14's display is not as good as this display at least in terms of raw specs in particular um it looks like we may have loaded into this game in the igpu under the igpu maybe we'll see because it seems to be a bit laggy right now or something something's going on okay maybe not I think we're all right it was just kind of loading in I guess um I would say that with the G14 here uh in manual fan mode your temperatures are going to be a bit hot a lot hotter than they would be if you're in performance mode or in turbo mode simply because we've raised the power limits to the max um you know and so it's going to basically push our FPS and everything to the maximum they could possibly do um so we're on Ray tracing Ultra so we're based on the highest setting not quite the height there's overdrive but we're gonna do ultra and we're going to set it to Quality for our super resolution and we can try running it the race racing overdrive as well so we have dlss with frame gen enabled because that's how I think players are going to play this game with dlss on quality everything's on Ray tracing and ultra settings let's try the benchmark Okay so QHD plus 1600 P resolution 49 FPS so far we're doing 106 watts to the GPU 109 we had a little drop in GPU power interestingly enough 107 Watts 110 Watts our CPU is doing 22 Watts uh very good our CPU temps are pretty good at 75 our GPU attempts are still a bit spicy at 81. obviously we could power limit the GPU down a little bit more and get even better temperatures um but we're getting overall certainly playable FPS uh if I were to tweak this to make it even more playable or a better overall experience I would probably try setting my um the first thing I would do is I would set my Ray tracing well I would I would say dlss down to balance for sure first and then if I still wanted more FPS I would set my Ray tracing settings down a little bit more or just turn off Ray tracing entirely um okay so we got 51 FPS for our FPS average uh we hit the max at about 60 FPS um overall pretty pretty playable I don't think it's going to be like a horrible experience gaming at full resolution on ultra settings with Ray tracing enabled um that said if you're using frame gen I usually prefer to push like above 70 FPS and then you add frame generation uh like with with frame generation you know 70 plus FPS just because the frame the generated frames are going to be a lot less noticeable um so like if I were to tweak this let's just try one a couple a couple setting changes let's go down to balanced for our dlss and then we could try Ultra let's try ultra settings with balance mode you gotta remember that we're on QHD resolution so dlss on balance is actually still going to look really good all right so let's go ahead and let's run the Benchmark on that uh Max p 40 80 40 90 is double of this FPS uh in perspective yeah well the 48 and 4090 actually a little bit more than double right it was actually uh closer I think to like we've had anywhere from 125 to uh 140 I think approximately in this Benchmark uh with the same settings so certainly a lot better performance um that said in terms of actual gameplay experience you can get a very comparable gameplay experience on ultra settings with Ray tracing disabled for example you know like it doesn't it's not like without Ray tracing the game looks terrible I do think Ray tracing still looks better though um but I mean if you're you're sacrificing the ability to turn on that Ray tracing experience uh by going with this lower wattage 40 60 and a super portable package right you want to be able to Game On The Go with ultra settings then just kind of maybe turn off Ray tracing in certain titles especially at the full QHD plus resolution sacrifices will basically have to be made um if you want that 40 60 and save on your budget too because you could you could jump with a 4080 or 40 90 and put that in here because they do offer that and you're going to easily push over 100 FPS probably not 125 because you're going to be lower power limit but I bet you you're gonna go over 100 FPS on ultra settings with Ray tracing on Ultra so on these new settings we got 87 FPS which is obviously really good and going to be very playable let's go ahead and reset let's just try Ray tracing on Overdrive dlss on performance all right let's try it Ray tracing overdrive dlss on performance frame generation off Diamond plays I'm sorry man I'm not I don't just give people random money sorry man all right so uh King Dragon official zabald's Legion okay so wow so Ray tracing on Overdrive only 32 FPS right now with dlss on performance which is much lower resolution as well um and I'd say right now with only 32 FPS the frame the generated frames are much more noticeable um because they get a little bit more fuzzy around the edges then you know normally you don't really see the fuzzy so it's it's very important to uh to recognize that uh try overdrive native I mean it's going to be like 10 FPS or something like there's no point we already know it's not going to be playable because this this is not playable you know I should get the 40 90 version King Dragon I'm doing the 4090 Legion uh any chance of reviewing the Acer 14 Triton 4070 with mini LED um I don't know maybe I haven't really thought about it so we got 36 FPS with Ray tracing on overdrive dlss on performance frame generation enabled uh certainly not playable so overall uh overall you're going to get a great cyberpunk 2077 experience but you're gonna have to turn the settings down a bit more uh than you would in a 40 70 or sorry 40 70 40 80 or 40 90 laptop let's move into Dead Space uh LSP I just I got to keep moving through the benchmarks I can't just do a bunch of uh benchmarks randomly you know like I have a limited amount of time I can live stream so I hope you can understand that sorry Gizmo we're having our own conversation here LOL gotcha LSP says okay yeah sorry man uh it's just it's just like you know I if I do that Benchmark I I have to not do another game you know that's like the example for example all right so we're gonna do ultra default settings we're going to be on quality dlss mode we are at full 1600 P resolution um and I might do another benchmarking live stream with this laptop um for example because uh I'm not doing I'm currently not at 1080P and a lot of the 4060 laptops I tested uh all the benchmarks were done at 1080p um or maybe 1200p because most of the 4060 laptops don't come with a QHD display so just keep that in mind um and so right now we're doing 61 FPS dlss on quality Ray tracing on Ultra our CPU is hitting I saw 94 degrees a moment ago but now we're doing 89 so not quite maximum on the CPU Temps our GPU is at 99 GPU utilization so we're we're um we are hitting GPU throttling instead of CPU throttling uh but if we had a more powerful GPU right if we were doing a 40 90 in this laptop we would be CPU bound hard um in this scenario because we're almost CPU bound already uh not quite though um with and that's with the 40 60 right so right now we're maybe even starting to get a little bit of CPU bounding um I guess not an hour to 90 uh we're bouncing up and down but but most likely we are GPU bound primarily um but with a more powerful GPU you would definitely become CPU bound I think it's a very important thing to understand that with this laptop uh the CPU will be a limiting factor in certain games and titles like warzone um that even if you do get a 4090 you're going to still run into that CPU overhead bottle cap right so we're starting our run I have started the Benchmark um currently 58 FPS in QHD plus 16 by 10 25 60 by 1600 ultra settings Ray tracing is disabled uh but dlss is on quality so obviously a very good overall gaming experience in Dead Space so you're you you're going to be happy with this game in Dead Space with this laptop uh like you would get in here you would play this you probably it would just be a very smooth experience overall occasional little stutters here and there uh because of the one percent lows um and if you wanted to you could reduce the settings a little bit more drop it down to balanced or just turn off ultra settings or something and it's uh you'd you'd bump the frame rate up massively right so um if we go ahead and drop the resolution down let's go ahead and see what it looks like when we drop our video resolution down to 1080p we'll do 1200p because I don't want it to be off kilter on the um you know all right so this is what it looks like visually speaking all right uh let me go and turn it a little bit and I'll kind of zoom in all right so uh this is 1200p resolution uh so it's essentially full HD 16 by 10 all right and uh you can see I can see just a slight slight very slight fuzziness all right it is there the gameplay is much smoother overall I've reset it so we're getting kind of a new number right now but 94 93 FPS with 341 lows obviously very playable and I would say it still looks pretty dang good like it's it's not going to be that noticeable um but let me let me give you a better example all right so let's zoom in on on his back all right so that's what it looks like right now if you can screenshot that whatever um let me switch the resolution back now we'll go back up to Native resolution all right and that's what it looks like at full detail um and I can just see like the little bit of finer detail you know in like the little etchings around his armor stuff like that it's just a little bit sharper when you're at the full resolution um but it's it's not like it's an awful experience or something at 1200p um and that's going to be true with this QHD display or non-qhd display like if you were to go down to a full HD plus it's just less detail regardless like if you use a stealth 14 that has a uh you know uh a full HD display uh you know it's still gonna be less detail regardless all right so let's go ahead and do this at 1080p exactly so popping down to 1080. so it's gonna be a little bit stretched now because we're not at the native resolution anymore but we're just looking at our FPS numbers see what we get and uh I want to point out that we are currently CPU bound at 1080p 95 degrees thermal throttling on the CPU package so um right now again if you had a laptop cooler oh hold on I'm not zoomed out we'll have to restart this um so 95 degrees on the CPU package now that we're at 1080p the GPU is only at 87 81 utilization and that really shows you how CPU bound limitations can impair your gameplay experience with lower end CPUs all right so we're we're walking we're at 82 83 FPS right now 32 FPS for our one percent lows we're hitting 91 GPU utilization with 88 Watts 91 Watts 92 watts to the GPU so again we're not utilizing the maximum GPU wattage anymore and we're being CPU bound uh again this is at 1080p though right so it's very important to recognize that and overall obviously very good performance though still 90 plus FPS it's going to be a great gaming experience at 1080P and our one percent lows at 33 is not going to be that noticeable maybe it's a little bit noticeable um okay so 93 FPS there in Dead Space moving into Dying Light two all right checking out the chat while we're loading the game um King Dragon says Nvidia wanting us to spend more for the 4080 which is actually the best value GPU gener this generation uh yeah I think I think the 4080 is a really good uh value um or if if the upgrade to the 4090 is fairly minimal like say 400 500 then the 4090 becomes fairly uh value friendly as well especially factoring in the additional vram on the 4090 version um so but in general I think most people will be very happy with the 4080 with 12 gigs of vram though in certain games you're still gonna have to turn down the vram a little bit like in Last of Us 2 or maybe Hogwarts so Dying Light two hopping in here we're going to go ahead and make sure that we're on high quality Ray tracing dlss is on quality Fame generation is on we have to restart to apply these settings as the bald says only 41 one Watts on the CPU strix is running 100 Watts consistently on the same test uh yeah but it's also the I9 CPU and it's Intel and the way they do their wattages is going to be a bit different um you know the I9 CPU is also going to have a lot more surface area more cores more ways to dissipate the heat it's a much bigger chassis uh with bigger fans you got a triple fan setup as well in the strix G18 so there's a it's just it's a hugely different platform it's hard to compare apples to apples um but yeah if you if you saw at the beginning the G14 is like half the size of the G18 like literally half the size like it is a huge difference in size um okay so we're on high quality Ray tracing 1600 p uh dlss on quality frame generation is enabled let's go ahead and run our Benchmark and see what we get here we go Todoroki does not like matte displays okay there we are let's see what FPS we get uh keep in mind that frame generation is enabled so we really want to get like 70 plus FPS typically speaking for really good frame generation implementation um you know to make all of the extra frames uh look and appear less glitchy or anything like that um like this is looking pretty good right now 67 FPS uh one percent lows are pretty much irrelevant because in between loading the scenes it kind of stutters so that messes up with the one percent low performance um but our actual FPS at 69 like the gameplay looks good to me like it's looking excellent right now and keep my work QHD plus so very high uh resolution for a 14 inch laptop a very high performance levels right now uh looking at our our wattage pull we're doing oops I bumped it we're doing 111 109 110 uh watts to the GPU with 99 GPU utilization um 114 Watts there at the end so it's nice to see that this is pulling higher wattages than the zephyrus g16 for example um so that's very very good but you know I I think that this is a laptop that could likely really benefit from the curve Optimizer which is basically like undervolting um the CPU and I'm very curious to see if I can do it I haven't tried it but if I try it and it works well then I think I'll do another live stream and we can compare performance because you know undervolting this thing is probably going to really boost performance in games like Dead Space and other titles so um I believe we got like 71-ish on the FPS so let me jump ahead on the the replay here checking 72 it looks like 72 right okay cool so 72 FPS and uh that's obviously very good I think um I think the game would be very playable going above 70 FPS with frame gen on all ultra settings QHD plus it's gonna be a great gaming experience um love it so let's move on to God of War God of War Hogwarts and Last of Us I want to do at least those three games here um and maybe shadow of the Tomb Raider as well okay Gizmo please tell me the your rating of managing software by brand um hmm I would say that Asus is really good but sometimes they don't offer as many Advanced options like MSI does uh but the nice thing about Asus is that you can pretty much do all your driver updates through Windows update so you're even your bios updates um and I have never had a problem with that uh like with a bios update failing on me the thing about Asus is it does it automatically though so sometimes it worries me that what if it did it the update and I don't have a way to back it up or something but um anyway overall in terms of controlling it I love asus's options that give you use a customer customizability and Armory crate is really good and very reliable at least in laptops um that said for um Razer has been pretty good except except that Razer synapse kind of bugged out on me a couple times overall I still like razer's software as long as it's not being buggy okay so God of War ultra settings QHD plus 16 by 10 25 60 by 1600 um dlss on quality we're doing 53 FPS 31 for our one percent lows this is extremely gorgeous and playing really really well so 55 35 4r 16 by 10. let's do this one more time at 1080p uh just because it's gonna let us have something comparable with some of the other RTX 4060 laptops out there so we'll flip back over here and let's do display we're gonna go 16 by nine oh yeah that's right so God of War is going to require us to go into our Windows settings and we actually have to set it to 1080p feels a bit silly but that's what it requires so now we're 16x9 1080p dlss on quality and we're still on ultra settings all right so wow the FPS difference is not that big uh 60 FPS right now but our one percent low is much better at 54 FPS so the gameplay does appear a little bit smoother to me to my visual eye even though the overall FPS is not that big of a difference right so we got 67.50 so our our big gain was in one percent lows there uh where our average FPS really was not a huge difference so very interesting result for God of War let's pop back up to 1600p let's move into Hogwarts Legacy uh zaval says watch Omen test by Gizmo that laptop was rocking here CPU was limited as it's on a 13700 HX uh Sonic 21 says nobody ever mentions Acer HP for gaming laptops nowadays uh yeah well HP Omen 17. I do I do talk about it pretty often I've talked about it at least twice I think in this live stream so far and I do recommend the omen 17 for people that are more on a budget but still want good performance so uh big Jesse welcome to the live stream um Hogwarts on the 40 90 blade 18 has been amazing yeah I played Hogwarts almost entirely on my blade 18490 and it's just like you're doing for if you do frame generation with dlss on balance mode at Native 1600p resolution I mean I was doing like 150 FPS on ultra settings it was it was just flying um super smooth gameplay and really fun um I I beat the whole game I almost I didn't quite 100 everything but uh I have played through everything you know um all the way through the commencement ceremony and I actually started playing uh a second campaign as a evil Slytherin girl and uh yeah so it's that's been interesting because you're in a different uh different house and you have slightly different friends and people treat you a little bit differently because you're in a different house um but it seems like and I'm trying to be evil like the first time that my first playthrough I was trying to be good at every decision making Point um and now I'm going to be trying to be evil at every decision-making point so like I'm like stealing stuff from people and like telling them they're awful and making them pay me Bounty monies for fixing their stuff and otherwise I keep the thing that they wanted and it's pretty funny um so yeah uh SPO what's the point of the 4060 and 4070 when 8 gig vram won't even last two years Max so SPO 75 I would say that uh in terms of lasting it's already not lasting because in games like Hogwarts and last of us too which we're about to test both of these games we're already hitting Max vram um so at QHD resolution in particular at 1080p it's a little bit easier you don't have to go to low on the vram um but basically in certain titles we're already maxing the vram right now um so but the thing is that that's only two of the titles that I test and in the vast vast majority of the games you can still run Ultra textures it's just certain titles are gonna be you know struggling right off the bat so we're on all ultra settings we're gonna set texture qualities to low we're going to turn Ray tracing on we're going to apply these settings do we need to restart now interesting it does not look like we need to reset the game okay so we're at 1600 p is frame generation on it should be on I just want to make sure that it's on frame generation is enabled cool beans uh sp075 damn already obsolete that's crazy so that's the thing though like in a sense even the RTX 4090 like so the MSI gt77 has a 4K 144hz display and if you're wanting to Max that laptop at 4K you can't even run Ultra textures because it wants like 20 plus gigs of vram at 4K so um basically what I'm trying to say is that if you end up getting a RTX 4050 40 60 and 40 70. in the vast majority of games you'll be just fine on vram it won't be a problem all right the thing is certain games you're gonna have to either turn down the settings you're gonna have to turn dlss on a lower setting um or you're gonna have to just bump the resolution down to a lower overall resolution to be able to make it so that you're not stuttering with the the one percent lows but those games where you have to do that is still very low so that's the thing uh it's very rare and the vast majority of games it's still not a problem so as long as you're willing to tweak the settings you're still going to be able to get playable frame rates in all the games but just maybe not at maximum settings or maximum resolution textures and all that okay so looking at what we got right now um we you can see we're maxing our vram we're at 7.2 we have eight gigs of vram technically in this game um but the thing is uh it never actually fills up to all the way to eight there's always a little buffer room so we're basically maxing our vram right now um we're hitting 67 FPS again we're at QHD plus 16 by 10 ultra settings overall Ray tracing is enabled and our one percent lower right now is 41. now as we run through the world I anticipate our one percent low is going to get a bit lower so let's go ahead and run and oh I'm gonna go ahead and back up oh man we're already stuttering pretty hard there um again I think that's because of our low textures still maxing our vram so eight percent or eight FPS right now um wow for a one percent low our one percent low is really struggling right now so we ended up with 58 FPS with a one eight eight FPS for our one percent low um are we able to go is it pushing above 60 I just want to make sure that it's pushing above 60. in the gameplay yeah okay I just wanna make sure everyone capped at 60. um so if you were to tweak the settings in this game and still have a good gameplay experience first thing I would do let's just try dropping our dlss to balanced or maybe even performance but look what we so we went down to balance look at our vram usage we are now not vram capped all right so our one percent lows are at 30 now we're just under the vram cap just barely right now but as we run through we may still run into the vram cap limit we're at seven we're getting close to it so yeah it's still not ideal let's try going dropping down to Performance all right so everything's loading in still we're at 6.6 gigs on the vram now and our one percent low is still at 16. let's try running through again way less stuttering right now even though our one percent low is not that much better I can visually tell that it's just so much less stuttering than what we were running into before um because we lowered essentially by lowering dlss down it it samples from a lower resolution which requires less vram so we end up with 24 hour one percent lows 69 and another big thing you can do to improve performance in this game is if you just uh go down here and we just turn off Ray tracing okay now it wants me to restart the game to disable Ray tracing which is interesting but anyway it gives you a good idea of La Hogwarts Legacy performance not that amazing at QHD you're gonna have to definitely tweak the settings to really pump frame rates in Hogwarts like you could you get you're obviously a very playable um and that's the most demanding part of the whole Hogwarts um Legacy game like going through hogsby there's so many NPCs and textures and everything um so that's kind of like the worst case possible scenario um in that situation um so just just know that that's the context there the game will run much better through the vast majority of other areas of the game um but that's kind of like I always like to test worst case scenario uh typically in most of these games especially when it comes to vram so uh Xbox says I had this efforts G14 but had to return it because there was a horrendous stench in your experience have you noticed a smell I have not Xbox aren't you always getting are you are you always one the one mentioning the smell that like you keep buying several laptops and you keep doing bad smell um Hogwarts was still running you said that but it was just closing down in the background it's it's off Dunning um but thanks for looking out I appreciate that um you says could you try 1200p on Hogwarts like on Dead Space and tell us about the details oh that's a good good idea moo but it's a little bit late um at this point uh but yeah if you went down to 1200p uh it would definitely uh massively improve your vram limitations because it when you lower the resolution the size of the textures come way down so you would definitely have better one percent lows and higher FPS overall if you went down to 1200p which kind of in a sense almost makes me wish that that was the default display for the G14 simply because then I don't even have to really talk about the vram limitations very much because it's going to be extremely rare that you run into them at 1200p um but now that we're doing a QHD display I mean a QHD plus display is still nice I still love the fact uh that you have a QHD plus display on this um it's just in more titles you're going to run into that vram limitation so uh nerdy Dan says this game killed my PC but I managed LOL gotcha uh big Jesse says yep even 16 gigs vram is not enough uh however this is if you want Ultra Ray tracing Etc and if you want ultra um textures too that's also very important okay so in our settings here can we run no we have to do part of this window all right and we want if we can we want to run it on scaling mode we want to go to dlss super resolution on quality all right very good and we're also going to want to go in here and we want to make sure we want to set everything to ultra if we can all right but then we also need to set our texture settings to medium because you can see the vram limitations there only once we set everything to medium do we go under under the 8 gig vram limit so very important this is basically all ultra settings but medium texture settings all right and it's also very important to note that it this game is building shaders uh in the bottom right still you can kind of see right there where it says it's building shaders so I'm testing this without the shaders belt there is going to be a little bit better performance uh when you have the shaders fully built but it takes a long time for the shaders to build in this game so keep that in mind so okay crash of us hello yeah we'll see what we get we are going to see what we get notice that we are hitting the 95 degree cap on the CPU pretty often um even though we're on maximum fans uh and that's just the way that uh that's the way it is with this laptop um and I don't think it's dangerous for the laptop I think you're gonna be able to use the laptop for many years with 95 degree temperatures uh but uh just know that you are basically being thermal Limited with this laptop and utilizing a cooling pad is definitely going to boost performance overall um so I would I would highly recommend it if you can uh I have been playing Last of Us or already so was before I got before I started traveling and being super busy with Carla um and I made it about I don't know a quarter of the way through the game and yeah I was getting fairly often crashes I don't know I crashed probably six or seven times in about four or five hours of gameplay and uh but at least the auto save system works really well and you can load right back in where you were though as you can see it takes a while to load into this dang game it's not a quick loading game for sure so uh before we end this live stream we have got to check the speakers out and the webcam and I want to show you Windows hello as well uh and we're also going to do a summary of everything we found out about the laptop so far as well uh dn75 says Hey Gizmo would you recommend Intel or AMD laptops for architecture work I'm inclined to ryzen for battery life my region is subject to blackout so a longer battery life is a must for me in that scenario yeah I would I would recommend ryzen in that sense okay so we're hitting 60. I wanna we're hitting right at 60. I want to make sure we're not there's no V uh vsync vsync is off frame rate is unlocked okay all right so uh we're heading right at 60. FPS right off the get-go 61 FPS for our average 45 for a one percent low the gameplay looks phenomenal super smooth I'm gonna let you hear the audio good what time is it today excuse me your birthday so um right now we're doing 83 degrees on the CPU we're not CPU bound we're 100 GPU utilization we're hitting 101 Watts on the GPU overall this is really good performance and a game like this as well you don't really need to aim that carefully very much it's not like a twitch shooter or anything so this is going to be excellent overall gameplay performance and certainly super playable and sustainable I think um so very important to note that and the graphics in this game are so realistic too on ultra settings the lesson quality is just like it's almost like photorealistic graphics um is this manual or turbo mode we are in manual mode with everything maxed out so I think the main the main concern I have right now with the the zephyrus G14 is just the GPU at least in Turbo or in this in manual fan mode we are oftentimes getting really close to that thermal throttle range right so um all right so resetting our FPS counter now that we're actually moving around in the game we're doing 53 FPS 59 with a one percent low of 31 yeah I mean this is this is very playable a very good experience overall um I anticipate the gameplay experience would probably be pretty similar to this for most of the game based on my experience um it might have a little bit more dips in certain areas and so you could turn some settings down a little bit more or check you know change dlss down to uh like balanced mode if you need to um so last game I'd like to try shadow of the Tomb Raider oh and Witcher 3 I really went how much time do we have okay if we do this fast we can do this all right so we're doing highest settings Ray tracing on Ultra exclusive full screen and it should be dlss on quality all right uh them all ways right 85 degrees on the GPU is crazy imagine the 40 90. um well actually the 4090 may actually have a little bit better temps maybe if the surface area is bigger it might actually help dissipate the heat a little bit better at the same wattage level essentially if you're pulling the same number of Watts on the 46 here for the 40 90 I think you'd have slightly better temperatures on the 40 90. um because of that surface area so dlss is on quality 1600 p we are in all highest settings with Ray tracing on Ultra let's see what we get wasn't the MSI stealth temperatures much better yeah it I think the stealth 14 temperatures were better um but the thing is it was also lower wattage on the GPU so if you're if you're talking apples to apples comparison you also got to factor in that wattage level and uh and yeah so it's not going to be a direct comparison especially since we're dealing with a ryzen chip versus Intel the Nvidia side of things are going to be a bit more comparable like in certain games you know like we're doing 102 watts and I don't think the stealth 14 ever saw over 100 Watts consistently in most of the games I'm pretty sure it was like more like 80 to 90 watts in the vast majority of games with the stealth 4 team so you are going to get lower FPS in those titles um so yeah the screen detail is awesome yeah no this is certainly super high resolution um display and if you sit really close to the 14 inch monitor you'll probably tell the difference uh but the self 14 you know it has a 1200p display which is just going to be easier to push frame rates out to you know um you're in a game like this I'm pretty sure the cell 14 was doing closer to like over 100 FPS because it was 1200p and we're doing QHD plus and hitting 70 FPS which is still playable still very good and you're getting a little more detail to show up on the display but the 1200p is just going to be um you know just easier and more consistent and less vram limitation issues because once again we're also running into vram limitations at 7.7 gigs of vram um though I don't think we're getting I don't think we're getting too many stutters because of the vram um it's mainly just I'm not sure I think it's I think it's just close to the peak close to the cap of what the vram um needs are as capable of so 110 watts of power 111 right now overall our GPU wattage in the vast majority of games were well over a hundred probably averaging like 105 in most of the games some of the games were doing like over 110 pretty often um like Apex Legends I think was doing like over 110 pretty often but the thing is when you're pulling that high wattage you know we were seeing we were seeing uh GPU attempts at like 86 87 basically thermal throttle temperatures um so I really think this is a laptop or a laptop cooling pad will boost the CPU when it's a CPU bound game and it'll boost the GPU wow 122 Watts there for a moment it'll boost the GPU wattage as well in those GPU bound games so yeah and I did see 87 Watts on the GPU so we did hit that thermal throttle on the GPU at least for a moment there wattage doesn't matter for the 4060 and 40 70 above 100 Watts it does matter still but it doesn't matter like massively um you know and it matters less you know than a lot of the other laptops okay so we got 77 FPS very good uh it's going to be playable right it's going to be very playable um no problems there um one thing I want to point out right here uh the the temperature of the keyboard the wasd keys are warm they're not hot but like right here is a bit warmer right above the touchpad the wrist rest is just a little bit warm but not hot but like the center of the keyboard over here the G the H the J I would say this is getting closer to hot and right up here at the edge oh that's very hot like I could not touch this for an extended period of time without hurting myself probably because it's very very hot along the top all right um so the right wrist rest is also just warm it's not hot Witcher 3 let's hop into that 87 degrees on the GPU is unacceptable uh well Shadow we you can easily reduce the temperature by just setting the thermal Target lower um or for example going into performance mode or turbo mode and those will definitely have lower power limits which are going to really reduce the temperatures on the GPU but because of the settings and everything that we have set in the manual fan mode that's why the temperatures are so hot and spicy so it's very important to interpret the results properly and not just jump to conclusions so we have frame generation enabled 1600p and I suppose in this game we could also do that testing if you'd like um let's try it we'll try we'll try cycling between the four modes we'll do silent turbo performance and manual we'll do manual first since we're already in it and then we'll kind of let it sit there and see what kind of temperatures we get after a couple minutes on each of the modes okay okay so for some reason we are not okay I don't know if everything was just loading in or what that was but we weren't pulling the full wattage on the GPU initially let me double check that all of our settings hit because I would I would think we get a little higher FPS but dlsys is on quality race racing is on Ultra full screen 1600p yep all of this is set correctly as far as I can tell once again we're kind of getting close to the vram limitations right we're at 7.1 gigs on the vram which could mean that we're close to maxing it or we are maxing it okay so let's go ahead and we'll do a test now right now we're doing 48 fps 24. this seems this definitely seems a bit lower uh yeah I don't know seems like frame generation might not be on I don't know 54 FPS 35 for our one percent lows it's certainly playable 54.35 all right so it's certainly playable it doesn't I'm not really noticing glitchiness from frame gen let me try turning frame gen on and off let's turn frame gen off all right so now it's doing 35 FPS so it certainly is a noticeable Improvement having frame generation on so frame generation stuttering a lot as I don't know I'm guessing frame generation is trying to catch up or something okay now that it's all loaded in things are smooth again 54 FPS let's try going into our video display actually Graphics let's try changing um dlss down to Performance mode I think everything's kind of loading all right how we doing now 64 FPS 51 for a one percent lows and this definitely feels smoother because our one percent lows are better um you know going lower on dlss does reduce some of the demand on the uh GPU vram so that probably helped our one percent lows I feel like that's what you got to do if with this laptop you got to rely on dlss and you got to be willing to put it down to like performance mode in a lot more games okay so now we're going to go ahead and cycle through some of the uh different fan modes let's try we'll try turbo mode first all right and uh while we do this I'm gonna I'm gonna pop over um I do not have GTA 5 bashata uh hmm yeah no I'm not gonna do that okay so let's just kind of take a look at in turbo mode look at what what look at what's happening right now right so um our CPU is at 83 24 watts of power our GPU is still pushing over 100 Watts but it's not like 110 now but we are thermal throttling still at 87 degrees a second ago 86 right now and the fans are still basically at Max so let's try rotating to Performance mode and okay I'm seeing look at look at our uh our wattage is now dropping to 95. 94 92 our temperatures are coming down we were at 86 now we're at 84. our fan noise is reducing further whoa the fans have become really quiet and the game audio is way more pronounced now to me the gamer our temperatures are actually 83 now I'm curious if it would keep coming down right I don't know I guess another 85 I saw 85 a second interesting 84 and keep in mind I'm in a room that's about um 70 I don't know 75 degrees right now probably for AC temperature so if you're playing a hotter environment you're in a thermal throttle a lot harder um if you play in cooler environment it'll be less especially if you use a laptop cooler so right now 63 FPS 41 for our one percent lows this is very playable um in performance mode Let's try silent mode we're in silent mode now what are we going to Throttle Down to so it's going to throttle our CPU and GPU way lower our GPU Tabs are already falling significantly to 77 degrees our CPU temps are going up actually though interesting 33 Watts on the CPU now which is interesting we're still at 50 FPS so resetting we're getting some we're getting some gnarly one percent low stutters here oh now we're getting down to the true silent mode oh interesting 55 degrees 55 watts in silent mode 33 watts to the CPU it's interesting that the CPU is pulling so much more it's like more wattage on the CPU now than it was it doesn't make sense um that's pretty weird right and it's a lot smoother now than it was when it was jumping back and forth um so and in regards to hitting 87 degrees on the GPU that's I think not ideal um at the same time it's uh I don't think it's gonna harm the laptop but just in warmer environments you're going to Thermal throttle uh more easily so this is silent mode we're basically getting 55 watts and 25 watts to the CPU all right so if I were to open up Armory crate and we were to set it to manual mode Let's just try tweaking our own profile and try to get more ideal Temps all right so um under the GPU mode we're going to set Dynamic boost down to five Watts and let's just so we're just reducing the wattage by 20. all right so I'm waiting for the fans to kick it the fans are still ramping up from silent mode they take a little while let me pull up chat dlss actually tags is the CPU which is why CPU limited scenario turn on dlss does not improve performance yeah that's true that is true unless unless lowering the resolution reduces the CPU load significantly depends on the game but yeah oftentimes it's minimal returns a 40 90 a 125 watts is probably going to throttle heavily I knew a G14 and 490 with sus yeah I'm anticipating a wood throttle uh it's gonna well we're already throttling the 4060 right but the amount of performance you're going to get especially with better vram um is going to be huge you know go into the 12 gigs if you remember the 4080 might be the sweet spot for QHD for most people so right now we're still we're still hitting our thermal throttle but I'm pretty sure we would go lower if we gave it some more time um I'm thinking probably like the 8384 range if we gave it more time hmm interesting yeah I I would say that performance mode is probably the way to go most likely for people that are like wanting to balance noise and fan noise and game audio and still have decent performance uh obviously more advanced users could set up their own fan profile curve as well and that would be a great option let's go ahead and test the speakers and the webcam let's do the webcam first okay so here's the webcam hello how are you doing hi Grandma hello uh there we go so I would say in terms of image quality uh uh I think it's above 720p resolution I think it's probably a 1080p camera at least I'm talking about it looks like to me it's a bit grainy still I'd say this is above average I'd say this is above average for a webcam uh but I don't I don't think it's gonna be uh particularly amazing um let's go ahead and like it's not as good as it's not it's certainly not as good as uh uh okay I'm trying to get these numbers to get off the screen here there we go okay so let me zoom in on that so you can kind of see it that's a picture uh you can see good detail around the gh5 and the Lumix good detail around my teeth and my hair uh overall it's a pretty decent webcam um above average certainly above average compared to most webcams out there and you can see the windows hello element of this if I go ahead and lock the if I go ahead and lock the laptop and I go ahead and log in there it goes it took a moment to recognize me that time it's usually really fast well I wonder why it's not letting me sign out interesting I wanted I want to re-enable the Windows key I'll press FN plus Windows key to enable it okay there we go okay so that was really fast that was really fast that was really fast so there's some examples of Windows hello let me go and zoom out again so it happens really really fast with Windows hello uh it wasn't a problem overall uh in my experience let's do our music test here we go so going to downloads music all right okay so Peter Spacey Rohr is our first song of the music test and I'm holding about 10 inches in front of the laptop we're gonna need to go ahead and change the fan profile to uh I don't know performance that's fine I see the fans to be a little quieter and come on cool 100 volume okay and then also I want to go into Dolby access here real quick this is where you can change some of the settings so right now right now you can see that we are on music balanced mode but uh in my experience using Dynamic mode is usually almost always the better audio profile mode for sound uh volume and quality though we can go ahead and test that real quick here we go we'll try game [Music] all right all right so we'll use Dynamic it didn't seem to make too big a difference but I think Dynamic was about the best sounding or pretty close to it maybe music was also pretty good all right so let's go and zoom out and here we go so about 10 inches in front of the laptop where your kind of your head would be maximum volume Peter Spacey Roar foreign [Music] does a lot of bass for a little laptop a lot of bass all right faded aeon half-life [Music] all right [Music] foreign Half-Life uh the mids were pretty good the highs definitely were breaking up a little bit um it's a little too bad but that's where Adobe Atmos you could kind of tweak it a little bit for certain types of music maybe [Music] so uh uh yeah I'd say I would say that there's a lot of bass that the mids are pretty dang good but the highs were kind of breaking up um at least with the the settings that we had I kind of want to try maybe doing um music mode balanced and trying faded a on again [Music] foreign [Music] yeah that was much better I think doing Dynamic I guess probably boosts the audio game too high on the highs or something um so it was definitely less crackly and more balanced overall with uh the music set up to balance mode um yeah so the speakers overall I think are pretty dang good for a 14-inch laptop I'd say it's a little bit better than the stealth 14 the stealth 14 also had pretty dang good speakers um this is a little louder I think and a bit more bass than the stealth 14. um but the mids and highs were pretty similar in the same ballpark and uh yeah so I think this is probably in terms of speaker systems around the 8.5 range maybe 8.6 in my rating system in that if I were to estimate or guess there's a good amount of volume you definitely have some bass you definitely have some mids you definitely have the highs and the clarity is pretty decent uh but it's not like it's the best it's definitely not the best speaker system you know that we've seen it's probably the best speaker system in a 14-inch laptop though um we'll have to see what the blade 14 does later this year uh but I'm guessing this one's going to be very competitive with that so it's time to talk about the ports and then we'll do a summary of uh all of the things in the laptop all right so uh looking at the ports starting along the left side here let's turn this brightness down a little bit there we go all right so along the right side we have a micro SD card slot we've got a USBC with DisplayPort then we've got two USB 3.2s and then on the back of course there is nothing because it's all exhaust and of course the exhaust hits off of the screen right here and then you also have exhausts on the left and right sides as well on the right side sorry on the left side we have the power adapter we have HDMI 2.1 that's connected to the Nvidia GPU and then we also have another USBC with DisplayPort um and then we've got our headphone Port as well so uh there is a lot of ports on this laptop trying to get it to focus here it's very difficult there we go okay so there's your power adapter HDMI 2.1 USBC with DisplayPort and power delivery and we got our headphone Port right there micro SD card slot USBC with power delivery I believe it also has power delivery and a display port and then we have the two USB A's so a good selection of ports for a 14 inch laptop um not a no Thunderbolt for support because this is of course a ryzen laptop which is going to be another slight disadvantage for this laptop all right so um let's move into a summary of everything that we have found out about the zephyrus G14 so I would say the biggest advantage to the zephyrus G14 is that at least in theory it it is a higher TDP wattage system and we did see those higher TDP Watts on the GPU at least and uh when comparing it to something like the stealth 14 or something slim maybe a 15 inch like a MSI pulse 15 or something like that um this thing I feel like it's just it's a very premium option because of the display because the windows hello because of the webcam because of the speaker system um because of the overall build quality fit and finish it feels a little bit more premium than something like the MSI pulse it feels on the same level I think as the stealth 14. I feel like the stealth 14 competes very well with this machine but I would say the stealth 14 was tuned to have a little bit lower TDP on the GPU which allowed the stealth 14 to have much better temperatures overall and the thing about cell 14 is that uh it is only also a full HD Plus display though the display is still very good overall it's a lower resolution display which just makes it easier to push High frame rates and that high frame rate capability of the cell 14 in many ways makes it more attractive unless you think you can really use a QHD plus display for example maybe using Photoshop or video editing you might be able to see more details in those kinds of detail-oriented applications in times of video game play on a 14 inch display I would recommend a full HD Plus display with when it's being paired with a 4060 or a 4070 or 40 50. simply because of vram limitations and the ability to easily more easily push out frame rates at full HD Plus and that that to me gives a a big advantage to the cell 14 in in real world usage scenarios now I think this the zephyrus G14 has a huge Advantage when you're equipping it with an RTX 4080 or 40 90 because then with the QHD display it's it's paired much better not only with the vram that you're getting with the GPU you allowing you to run higher textures more consistently or basically all the time especially if you get the 4090 version but then in addition you're also going to be pushing instead of like you know with the 4060 often times at QHD plus resolution you're gonna be struggling to go above 60 FPS with everything maxed in the latest titles like you're going to be hitting around that 50 to 60 FPS Mark pretty often and then in the more demanding areas of those games you might be dropping even a little bit lower so you're gonna end up going down to like uh medium high settings sometimes and oftentimes having to fiddle with textures or stuttering from textures being um filling up the vram um whereas if you were to go with the 4080 or 40 90 version of the zephyrus G14 you're not gonna have that problem at all so at sixteen hundred dollars I think I would recommend the stealth 14 over the G14 because of all the vram limitations and and the lower resolution and the better temperatures you're getting on the GPU um the stealth 14 just felt like a a superior product at this price point at 15.99 so that's that's this specific configuration that said If you're looking for the ultimate 14 inch laptop I think the 4080 or 40 90 version of the zephyrus G14 runs circles around and crushes the stealth 14 in that sense um because then you don't have the vram limitations the display quality can truly shine because the increased resolution and gameplay is not going to be an issue you're always going to be hitting High frame rates even in the most demanding titles and you're also not going to run into vram limitations hardly ever if you have at least 12 gigs of vram at QHD sometimes you still will but if you have the 16 gigs of RAM at QHD then you definitely won't run into vram limitations almost ever currently not in any of the games that are currently out at least um hell of Sam says does it feel metal or plasticky good question it is plasticky but high quality plasticky um and I I gotta mention that in terms of overall build quality very firm very consistent all the way around let me switch camera angle and show you um so when looking at this G14 here right we've got almost no flex almost no flex a little bit of flex on the side at the top almost no flex just a little bit of flex a bit of flex up here but you never put weight up there no flex pretty much in the corner again a little bit of flex here going through the middle of the keyboard almost no flex just a little bit but it's it's very rigid very high quality overall feel fit and finish on this laptop and the white looks just gorgeous like the back here looks really good and I'm not sure if this is a metal encasement on the back but it doesn't feel plastic it feels almost like magnesium or something I'm not sure and this of course right here is metal um and I believe on the bottom here this is a metal plate for the bottom lid here but then we have plastic going around here so uh it's a mixture of metal and plastic on this laptop uh and the overall fit feel and finish is very good I'd say just as good if not a little bit better maybe than the stealth 14. all right um I I can definitely recommend this laptop the thing is you're gonna have high GPU temps and when you're at home if you're willing to uh stick it on a laptop cooling pad you're gonna have way better temps I think that's the thing that's kind of like I guess where I'm I'm drawing a bit of a like I think the self 14 is just a better pick because it's got it's equipped with the full HD Plus display and that's just going to be way easier to game on and have a longer longer future proofing because of that lower resolution so if you want to check out my stealth 14 review be sure to check my live stream history or my uh main video history you can check either one and you'll have that stealth 14 right there available uh to go check out the live stream there if you want to check out its performance versus the zephyrus G14 here in terms of gaming on this you're going to be able to play QHD plus games in the vast majority of titles but you just certain titles you're gonna have to fiddle with more and as time goes on you're gonna have to fiddle more and more with the settings and occasionally have to reduce even the resolution down to 1200p if you need to uh for example free up vram or reduce the vram usage um and that's going to kind of be a bummer right a little bit of a like a downer right because sometimes when you reduce textures it does not look as good as high or medium um or Ultra right it's very noticeable reduction when you go down to low and that's true in Hogwarts and last of us it's definitely a noticeable change when you go down to low or medium but it's at least in Last of Us you can go down to medium and it's fine um medium is not terrible low is pretty bad though in Last of Us and Hogwarts low is also you know definitely noticeable downgrade you want to kind of go to medium or high in Hogwarts if you can um Lord Asura asks how hot and loud is this compared to the previous 2022 model I did not review the 2022 model I reviewed the 2021 model and I think the 2020 model um and I would say the the loud factor is about the same uh but you can still do you can still use this thing as in silent mode zero DB silent mode and it's going to be awesome now in terms of battery life this thing's gonna have killer battery life like if if your focus is on casual gaming having something portable uh high quality looks nice and it's gonna last a long time I think this is going to be a great option for you especially if you're focusing on that battery life because the battery life on this sucker is really good um like I I think you're going to be getting like eight to ten hours of very well optimized usage out of it even with Wi-Fi and brightness fairly bright on this on this machine if you're obviously not optimizing at all it might be six to eight but with at least in terms of web browsing if you're doing gaming obviously gaming is going to kill it very quickly at like two hours max probably of gaming performance um the touchpad and keyboard feel great the touchpad's large for a 14 inch and Scrolls well it's glass uh great overall feel good click to it and the port selection is decent for a 14 inch laptop very good for a 14 inch laptop uh in my opinion it just lacks the Thunderbolt 4 or in a full-size SD card reader but usually you don't get the full size SD card reader and since this is a ryzen chip you can't have Thunderbolt 4 so those are the trade-offs you make to get that battery life if you if you really want that battery life um overall I mean this is a good machine it's not like if you bought this thing you should regret buying it it's a good machine especially um if you're willing to fiddle with settings uh to get the playable frame rates at full HD uh it's just the self 14 is going to be more like a no-brainer Tire or like a like you just go into any game pretty much with a stealth 14 and you're gonna have a great experience you go into some games with this and you want to run ultra settings and it's all stuttery because the vram's all eaten up and you're running a QHD plus resolution and that's just going to confuse a lot of people and so for people who are not not willing to fiddle with the settings this is probably not the laptop for them but the 4080 and 40 90 version won't have that problem so that's where I'm thinking if you go with the G14 and you just want to be able to go into any game and play it perfectly have no problems to get the 4080 version or maybe the 490 version spend the extra money if you're limited on your budget and you want to be able to go in any game and play it the stealth 14 full HD Plus display just makes more sense to me um but if you're willing to tweak it then this one makes more sense and if I were buying it I would get the G14 probably over the stealth 14. does that make sense like Advanced users the G14 will make more sense to more casual users that don't want to fiddle with settings the stealth 14 makes more sense so yeah I guess yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking um but even even to Advanced users you know still it might make more sense to go with the stealth 14 just because the native resolution at full HD Plus will look a little bit sharper than down resin to 1200p when you need to okay so what do I think about the legion slim uh with 12 700h and 3060 I did actually get one of those uh and it was pretty good I liked it overall um it's surprisingly good thinner lighter machine and a decent option especially if you can get on sale I wouldn't pay full price probably but uh if you can get it on sale it's pretty dang good I did some crypto mining on it and it was a good performance machine for uh for the money um okay do you have any idea on the 4080 pricing for the G14 I don't currently I'm not sure if it's for sale officially yet but I'm guessing it's going to probably be a at least in the 2400 to 2600 price range somewhere in that ballpark give or take a couple hundred uh and then the 30 90 version I'm guessing is going to be at least three thousand uh so you're definitely shoveling a lot of money out there but if you want to be able to game at QHD plus really really well without having to think about it then going with a 48 or 490 makes a lot more sense um when you can uh Lord Ashura says seems like you can only get the 40 80 40 90 model from Asus direct that may be true and the nice thing about the 4080 and 40 90 models is you're also getting a mini LED display which is a nice display upgrade um over this model though the display on this is very good with 420 what was it 425 minutes or something like that around that um knits brightness on the display not quite 500 as Asus claims but it's still very good and very high color gamut and decent contrast ratios but you're going to have higher brightness and much better contrast on that mini LED option if you go with the 48 or 40 90. so again the 40 80 40 90 option just like being way more attractive to me um that said like I said if you did get this it's still a great laptop I wouldn't necessarily be like oh I gotta return this if you bought it it's it's a good laptop but I would recommend the laptop cooler because we were seeing very high GPU temps pretty often in a lot of games which is going to be a bummer for some people um and uh yeah so let's hear um hellosam says will you review the Zenbook 14 and the Acer 14 thanks that's those are good options to consider I will try to review them if I can by the end of the year though those are on the low priority side of my review laptops Asus has kind of offered me some Zen books in the past now that you guys are asking so much about uh for me to check them out I might actually go check them out see if they'll send me one um trying to think if there's anything else to talk about with this laptop I think that covered it for the most part I will try to do some side by side comparison benchmarks and potentially some optimization maybe an optimization live stream as well with this thing especially if this live stream gets a lot of views I will eventually probably try to do some more videos with it uh any ATA on the blade 14 they've been pretty quiet about it yeah they have been very quiet about it I believe it's pretty delayed I think the reason why it's delayed is because AMD can only put out so many uh Zen 4 chips like the 7940 HS which is probably the CPU they want to put in the blade 14. there's only so many of those chips and I think Asus got them and Razer is basically waiting for chip Supply to be able to launch the next gen blade 14. and uh I think it's just a competition between vendors uh I I mean I can't there's nothing I've not heard anything officially from Razer saying that they will definitely do the blade 14. but the Reps that I talked to basically implied they're definitely it's definitely in the works so I would certainly expect it before the end of 2023 um when the uh chip shortage basically when AMD can put out enough chips because I think they're definitely going to want to put an AMD chip in the blade 14 but honestly I've been impressed I was very impressed with the stealth 14 running Intel so I don't know that you necessarily have to run a phoenix chip in the blade 14 especially since certain games just perform better on the Intel like war zone 2. we had Motor Performance on the stealth 14. um and yeah the temperatures I think are just a little bit easier to tame on the Intel even though the wattages are very high it's it's interesting and very different can you review the legion slim 7i I'm probably not going to review that I'm sorry ramash um at this point but I I did like I said I did have my hands on it I was impressed with it overall and I could I could recommend it if you do if you do get that real much um all of the AMD chips are in handheld gaming PCs yeah well there's a ton of demand for AMD chips overall between the Steam deck uh the PlayStation 5 all the gaming laptops I believe they're being used in cars there's just so much demand for AMD chips it's just hard for them to keep up and unless you can put in a huge order for the chips AMD is like deprioritizing you right now and that's why I think the blade 14 was delayed um yeah so uh ebitda says if the self 14 and had the 4080 and 12 gigs of vram I consider it but unfortunately it doesn't well that's the thing the stealth 14 uh if you're using the full HD display in the cell 14 they do have a QHD option but if you're using the full HD option in the cell 14 you don't really need the 12 gigs of vram that's why like it's just like a 40 60 pairs a lot better with full HD Plus resolution just like you can get like close to 100 plus FPS in almost all games compared to the G14 with the 4060 a QHD plus resolution where you're going to be getting more like 50 to 70 FPS in the vast majority of games on ultra settings at least obviously you can get way higher frame rates on the Jeffers G14 if you're willing to tweak with the settings and that's where it requires an advanced user who knows how to tweak the settings properly so if you're an advanced user the G14 4060 fantastic option and I think just as competitive to the stealth 14 but for cash special users or users that don't want to mess with settings the stealth 14 is currently the better option at least at the 1600 price point of course you get the G14 with the 4080 or 40 90 that will crush the stealth 14 and it will be much better choice overall especially with that mini LED display that's my current take on the G14 versus stealth 14 at 1600 go with cell 14 for most people if you're willing to go with 48 to 49 version the G14 I think is going to be fantastic so okay Bruno says thanks for everything no problem um Brian gr says does the Asus strix still have coil wine I have not tested it uh recently and SF L says I wish the G14 came with 120 hertz two 2.5 k OLED found in the Zenbook line um yeah but if you've got the mini LED uh it's very competitive with OLED or more competitive with OLED than you might think because of the ultra high contrast ratio and the increased knits brightness so I wouldn't say that I would say just if you're looking for an OLED like experience then the mini LED version of the G14 is going to be very close to that it's not going to be that big of a difference I don't think LSP says how about the aura 17x I have not heard about them fixing the aura 17x yet I am I should probably I should probably ping them I still have my 17x that they sent me for review uh and if if I find out that it's been updated in any way like they update the BIOS or something I may do a follow-up live stream like how to tweak an overclock or 17x um to get the most performance as it is currently the 17x is a good option but not as good as the competition because it doesn't go to as high of power limits which means reduced performance compared to something else so you know the omen 17 the blade 18 the scar 18 all of those had so much better performance than the aura 17x simply because it wasn't tuned properly so that's kind of my take on the 17x right now it's not a terrible option if you end up buying it or you bought it it's going to perform great overall it's just going to have lower frames than the competition so um okay all right boom that's it for the live stream I hope you guys enjoyed the zephyrus G14 unboxing review please drop a like on the live stream if you have not already it is super helpful um and I'll see you guys in the next one Brandon out
