good morning y'all we're here for day two of three for our vegetarian series in saigon and we're over here in district 10 on street vinbian a very busy street there's school there's people going to work i mean it's insane it is crowded and we're here at one of the most popular sorobanmi days you can get in saigon um [Music] okay [Music] no better way to do vietnam than um just kind of sitting on your bike out front and eating up so it's really funny about this bun may it's about me top cam and it it looks like a regular pork you got the ja which would be like a vietnamese sausage but of course no pork is used you got the bee which they make from a men which is a glass noodle and you've got the rao ram yualeo the dojo which will have the carrot in the daikon radish and then their pate is actually made from tofu one thing i love right away is just how crispy this banana is oh that bread is amazing it got some heat i hit pepper on the first bite let me try to get in here a little bit more now you can see that beautiful cross section the fat day i if you if i wouldn't have known it was made from tofu like you could have told me i'm like hey what i don't think this is a vegetarian i mean this is just hitting all the feels and the emotions and textures and flavors of a regular pork filled meat filled bun may but it's even got more spices more flavor because they don't have the meat they pack more flavor into this bun made it's just so light as well not only from the bottom me being crumbly and just getting everywhere but the pate eats lighter it doesn't sit heavy on your stomach you get the vietnamese coriander you're getting the carrot and the daikon radish that have been pickled for a little bit of sourness now i don't want to lemon this i don't want to say this is the best vegetarian bun me i want to say this is actually one of the most delicious bun me's i've ever eaten i wouldn't eat this just vegetarian day i think this is every single day [Applause] and you can't not get a bun bow when you're right here and they're 15. look at that load of mushroom carrot i'm gonna guess jicama i'm really not too sure on my bun bowel feelings can you see nice tiny little greenery in there as well i'm sure it could be like a mustard green or something like that [Music] delicious bread ooey gooey it just almost kind of melts in your mouth from having a little bit of sugar in it the filling i loved it umami packed earthy sweet creamy so again difference in textures from the bun and the filling very well done not something i crave on a super hot day like today but something i'm definitely happy to eat when it's super hot out here you guys steal your girlfriend's drink so chocolatey a little cacao there we go now i feel like i can go back in for this ooey gooey doughy bun bow [Music] okay so i'm back over here in my old stomping grounds right next to valvantan in district three we're finally here the setting for it's kind of funny it kind of looks like this old house kind of almost out of place because next to it you just got apartments apartments on apartments which are like three four stories high and then you got this one little floor almost old home looking building i have a really nice cool a little darker inside seating area but i decided to opt for outside just kind of beyond everybody's way get the natural sunlight and the benefits of getting away from that busy street this morning and you got this nice relaxed one is you can just enjoy a little bit of the serenity the tranquility well this is tranquil for saigon at least yeah as you expect for somewhere like here i feel like this common theme with vegetarian restaurants you can get about everything you got your typical starters salads soups you got hot pot fried noodles you can get rice plates and then even your main courses so how i got here is pretty funny i i wanted to make this vegetarian series well i didn't do my research ahead of time and today's actually a buddha day so i wanted to go to this very traditional next to the temple spot and it was so packed today so i was like i don't want to bother them or anything so i didn't go there came to this place it's a little more relaxed a little more out of their way we can't get in here make this film like i said still have a ton of people recommend this spot to me so okay so i really try to mix it up i've got a few things that are traditional things that are well not so traditional starting off with the canned head now very traditional soup then of course got some fried tofu here with a nice little lemongrass topping and then we got the actual dough with the mushroom as well so that's gonna be a type of mushroom and it cost style you know it's a braising method as a tofu and i mixed it up i just got a life lotus stem salad got some curry and something else that i cannot remember off top of my head so that being said let's get started i can't just leave these hanging out right here [Music] so the lotus root salad here looks a lot like the chicken salad you'll get here you see some cabbage you see the carrot vietnamese coriander peanut it looks like they got a little nook mom sauce on it but of course because this is vegetarian it's not mom it's gonna be salt water and some other ingredient to give her its coloring i'm not 100 how they do it but of course just know that it can't be no mom because big bomb comes from well fish i think i must've said wrong so the actual you know the tofu kostol they do have it with a tofu and a mushroom but i think i i think i ordered wrong order too fast i only got the one with the mushroom which is fine we got plenty of tofu other places [Music] the straw mushroom really reminds me a lot of maybe like a white button or cremini mushroom from the texture it's a little softer a little bit sweeter than i said that sweetness maybe come from the sauce too from that the coffee style you know sweet salty working with it the mushrooms give me that heartiness that texture and then mainly that rice delicious i feel like mushrooms are something i could eat so much more of that i don't take advantage of all the varieties and how feeling they are and just how much i enjoy eating them so this is a fun one this is the meat gun which is a seitan they used to say then they throw it in a sauce that resembles falao so anytime you see fallout usually like pork intestines and duck cats and liver and just all types of offal and everything and this time we're actually using a seitan which is a wheat gluten just gonna give it a toss in the sauce look at it holding in all that flavor maybe it's just me but i feel like to say them was a perfect decision because it is wheat gluten it's got that little bit of bounciness to it and i like having that chew because i usually like eat balau with poor contestants which has a chew to it so to me it's not that far off you don't get the deep rich irony just i don't know that depth of flavor that you normally would with meat but the sauce is on there man you're getting that subtle coconut sweetness you're getting those spices coming through and like i said you're getting a little bit of bouncy texture now i gotta reach for this one got the fried tofu which also looks like it's been topped with the lemongrass of course but i think they fried it as well [Music] i gotta take a little break give me a little soup here like i said this is like which is the chinese chive looks like it's got the straw mushrooms again and a little tofu oh so much for that chinese child flavor if chinese chives are your thing this is your soup not to mention i think they went through one whole chinese chai farm just to make this soup would you look how many they got in here okay now i had to order some i haven't had forever a little curry this one looks rich with coconut you see the oil floating at the top a little bit of greenery from basil i'm assuming and then it's got tofu what looks like this purple i'm going to guess is taro and i thought this was a potato at first but actually now that i look at it more it looks more like a sweet potato yep that is a sweet potato and that is in vietnamese curry form that is sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet lots added sugar to that a little bit creamy from coconut just all the spices are almost canceled out from the sweetness [Music] okay y'all let's talk for a second sometimes things don't go as planned so like i said this is not the restaurant i intended to go to i just kind of went here word of mouth because i'd heard it was delicious and i didn't really know where else to go anyways i don't want this to be a perfect video i want things to happen i mean it's real life that's what i love about youtube is it should be more real life it shouldn't be perfect like you should have an edited photo like ig or you know you did the dance move the right way one time out of 10 000 tries for tick tock or whatever that place for me nothing special i thought the food was just okay and so it doesn't mean it's a bad place because like i said look how many bikes there are here it's ridiculously crowded right now just for me it didn't do it didn't get to get you in the kitchen then it could show you much food didn't have much repaired so maybe a short video maybe not my best video i've ever made but then again maybe you'll enjoy it because it's real life things happen so that's gonna do it for this video promise we're gonna come back next video we'll have things planned hopefully have a little bit more you know kitchen work and uh things going on anyways so that's what happened sorry hope you don't mind get you the next one so max peace [Music]
