[Music] do [Music] oh sweet spirit hear my prayers [Music] these words heal someone out there i am but a voice just a in the air but i sing nonetheless in this pain we share [Music] oh sweet friends come and drive and hold each other by this tree of life i'm angry and [Music] [Applause] [Music] with love on our side [Music] oh sweet souls who feel broken [Music] together somewhere somehow [Music] still whole and still proud [Music] help these words heal someone out there [Music] um [Music] oh [Music] [Music] oh [Music] oh my [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] [Laughter] [Music] oh [Music] yisker is like an appointment with grief and so the time has come again to open that portal in our hearts it's a time of memory and reunion so we're going to take some time for quiet reflection and recollection if you'd like to take a few deep deep breaths centering and calming coming fully to this sacred work of remembering i invite you to feel the presence of your loved one imagine they're sitting right in front of you looking right at you take a good look at their skin their face their eyes reach out and take their hand as you recall was the grip firm or gentle warm or cool big or small hold their hand for a moment look right into their eyes as you recall the color the shape are there specks or other features or their wrinkles around their eyes seeing especially how they look at you recalling the sound of their voice is it high was it low certain or tentative take a moment in your mind to say anything you'd like to say to them maybe you got to say it while they were alive maybe you didn't but it bears saying again [Music] it bears saying now might be i love you it might be i forgive you it might be there's something that still hurts whatever you need to say and now in your mind hearing them saying whatever it is you need to hear from them it might be i love you it might be i forgive you they may have said it in their lifetime or not but still it bears repeating what do you need to hear from them knowing that even as they are gone they will always be a part of you you will always be a part of them beginning lovingly and gently to say goodbye become beginning to come back into this room hearing my countdown three two one opening your eyes and feeling relaxed sensing the presence and the feel that person felt for you and you feel for that person and will always feel mccord wellspring of life and author of souls may we be together with our loved ones again amen [Music] um [Music] um um um so [Music] so in the book of proverbs we read suff the nephesh umarpe words of pleasant pleasantness meaning words of torah are a honeycomb sweetness to the soul and healing to the body imagine torah to be as sweet as honey as healing as medicine to the body imagine torah as a source of strength during times of sadness and loneliness isolation distress and fear imagine torah as melting into our souls like we melt honey into hot water imagine torah comforting our bodies like the hand on our shoulder of someone who we once loved in a moment we're going to take out five taurus scrolls and we're going to place them around the sanctuary we invite you to visit those torah scrolls as a source of healing a source of sweetness and honey as you recall the loved one whom you remember during yiskar as you walk up to the parchment recall the person's skin as you notice the letters of torah think of the person's words or perhaps hear their voice notice the black ink on the white background and think of the multi-dimension of the person you loved their beautiful parts and perhaps even the ones that you struggled with be respectful of each other's space and each other's time everyone who wants will be able to visit a torah i ask for five volunteers to come forward now five volunteers to come forward now as we open the ark and rabbis decosta and chernow hand you the torahs those of you who don't want to visit a torah we're going to be following the liturgy we're starting with it's not in your prayer books but then we will be on page 250 after that [Music] you don't need to stand we're going to be bringing the torahs near you [Music] i [Music] all night [Music] know [Music] you can go to the torahs now one thing i asked [Music] one thing [Music] that i might dwell in your house all the days of my life [Music] knowing the beauty the beauty of you and to dwell in your holy place knowing the beauty the beauty of you and to dwell in your holy [Music] page 250 adonai what are we humans that you should know about us we children of the flesh that you should take account of us a human being is like a momentary breeze a person's days as quickly passing as a shadow we come and go like grass which in the morning shoots up renewed and in the evening fades and withers you turn us to contrition saying deutsche children of the flesh would that we were wise and understood what awaits us in the end for when we die we carry nothing away our glory will not descend along with us observe the innocent person take notice of the upright for the end of such a person is peace adonai can be trusted to redeem the souls of the righteous and no one who trusts in god shall be confounded [Music] may i know [Music] i [Music] oh is [Music] [Music] is oh [Music] i raise my eyes to the mountains what is the source of my help my help will come from the eternal maker of heaven and earth god will not allow your foot to slip your guardian will not slumber behold the guardian of israel neither slumbers nor sleeps the eternal is your keeper god is your shade at your right hand the sun shall not harm you by day nor the moon by night god will guard you from all harm god will protect your being the eternal will guard you coming and going from this time forth and forever [Music] [Music] me [Music] me [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] oh [Music] [Music] keep me [Music] i ask the volunteers to bring the dress torus back to the ark we're on page 252 page 252. adonai is my shepherd i shall not want god makes me lie down in green pastures and leads me beside still waters and restores my soul you lead me in right path for the sake of your name even when i walk in the valley of the shadow of death i will not fear evil for you are with me your rod and your staff they comfort me you have set a table before me in the presence of my enemies you have anointed my head with oil my cup overflows surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and i shall dwell in the house of adonai forever [Music] i [Music] is is [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Music] see [Music] oh [Music] [Laughter] [Music] me [Music] oh god we see that one generation comes into the world and is blessed with days of peace and safety and another goes through the valley of the shadow enduring the cruelties of persecution and war heartbreaking have been the times that have fallen to us we have lived through years of tyranny and destruction we are schooled in sorrow and acquainted with grief we have seen the just defeated the innocent driven from their homes and the righteous suffer a martyrdom as merciless as any ages have witnessed at this memorial hour we recall with grief all your children who have perished through the cruelty of the oppressor victims of a demonic hate the aged and the young the learned and unlettered all driven in multitudes along the road of pain and pitiless death their very presence on earth was begrudged to them for they brought your covenant of mercy and justice to the recollection of your enemies they perished because they were a symbol of your torah their death has brought darkness to the human soul they lie in nameless graves in far-off forests and lonely fields and the substance of many was scattered by the winds to the earth's four corners yet we will not forget them we take them into our hearts and give them a place beside the cherished memories of our own loved ones they are now ours we pray to you a source of mercy that your torah to which these your children bore witness in life and in death may come to glow with a renewed light in the human soul that remembering them we may sanctify your name in all the world thus will their memory become an enduring blessing to all your children we invite anatole klebenow susan weil ben pomerantz bonnie pastor and emma blankstein to please light our six memorial candles [Music] ah [Music] is [Music] of [Music] oh [Music] [Music] is [Music] see [Music] so do [Music] [Music] do [Music] do [Music] we pause in memory of our sons our daughters who gave their lives for the security of our people in our homelands not in monuments of stones or trees shall their memories be preserved but in the reverence and pride which will until the end of time fill the hearts of our people when their memory is recalled as we continue to hold on to the memory of our loved ones some of whom we may not have met but their impact continues to be felt we want to preserve their memory in name in the book of loving remembrance we'll read names out loud we're going to show a photo montage at the end of this service of our loved ones and you'll be able to see some of the faces some pictures of family of friends of memory of love we will offer names of those now who we have lost this year those close to members of this community we remember alexander angerman linda armstrong sema aviad frank baker alice berman miguel ferber ray finegood matthew anthony flynn david frank robert glasser allen lewis gold lila itself that we fear but the unfinished story the promise of what could have been it's enough to break a heart the shattered pieces of a life that will never come together again but we shouldn't fear death death is always at our side when we show fear it jumps at us faster than light but if we don't show fear it casts its eye upon us gently and guides us into the infinite we invite all those who are able to rise to do so at this time as we offer el malay rahamim we joined together the bottom of 255 in the english o god full of compassion for those you bring into this world grant complete
