good afternoon guys welcome back to the channel my name is ryan this is auto detour and today's a big day we're finally going to be installing the cal mini three inch lift on my wife's nissan armada the armada is sitting out here right now okay kade's gonna help me and gramps is currently disabled and in the way of the lift so as much as it pains me to do it we're going to be pulling uh the ford out of the garage with a chevy and then after we get the lift installed we'll do a big reveal we already got some uh some 35s over here ready to go on it it's gonna look great so before we jump into today's video now would be a great time to hit that subscribe button if you haven't already let's jump right into it [Music] you ready [Applause] all right so as i mentioned earlier we are installing the cal mini three inch lift on our 2018 nissan armada here i got all the parts from the kit all laid out here but first we're going to go around we're going to take some floor defender measurements so we can see how much actual lift we gain after installing the lift so let's quickly go around here front fender is about 35 and 5 8. back fender on the passenger side sitting at 35 and 3 8 over the driver's side this side's sitting at 35 and an eighth quarter inch lower than the other side and the front driver's side 35 and 5 8. so some starting points just to see how much actual lift we get out of the the cal mini three inch lift here when we're done so let's get the armada up in the air get the wheels off and get going [Applause] come down where to go all right so we're over here on the driver's side i got the upper control arm on for this side and i have the strut spacer on um so let's go over and start on the other side and i'll show you i'll show you everything we gotta do so let's dig into this site i'll kind of show you guys step by step what i did on the other side while i was kind of fumbling through figuring it out directions say in multiple places to refer to the the picture for certain steps and there are no pictures pretty much i have to sort through all that hardware without really knowing where it goes with no pictures kind of just fumbling my way through it here uh another roadblock i hit earlier was with the upper control arms the ball joints are not pressed in and there is no way on earth to get those things pressed in without a press so we gained a new tool today went down to uh northern tool and picked up a 12-ton press got that pressed so we can press those ball joints in and i guess we'll have one for future projects as well so let's start off with pressing the ball joint into this one we'll get the upper control arm installed and then we'll get that the strut taken out of this side so that we can put the struts in both sides all right so now that we've got our ball joint in place uh we do need to put this snap ring on there of course i don't have any st snap ring pliers so in a pinch you can use these small needle nose pliers uh to spread it apart which worked on the other side so we'll get that piece on there then we've got our castle nut and we're going to put our zerk fitting in uh on the other side and then once it's all in place we put the the dust cap on the top so let me get this snap ring on get this upper control arm put into place all right so we got our upper control arm all assembled ready to go so to take the stock one off we got a bolt back here and we got this bolt here we will be reusing the stock hardware and we got to take off the ball joint here so we just pull this nut get a pry bar under here and give this a good few whacks with a with a sledge and pop that ball joint out of there [Music] now this is interesting we got this little bracket here that's holding this wiring harness and it is just right in the way of getting that bolt out that's super obnoxious i was able to get the crowbar in here and bend this just enough to be able to slide this bolt out the top just like that what a spot for that now that everything's out of there just pull the upper out just like that and these uppers are not very thick especially in comparison to these uh tubular ones [Laughter] all right so now that we've got the upward control arm in place uh we're going to pull pull the strut out of here it's going to be these three bolts uh on the top of the tower here and then this one right down here and we'll pull the whole assembly out and we'll put the spacer in there [Music] now we're going to go up just a little bit get the load off that jack stand [Music] there we go just enough to get the bolt out and pull the whole thing out okay so now that we got our strut out of there we're going to bolt our strut spacer out to the top of the strut and we'll use the stock hardware to fasten it back on and then we'll use the new washers and hardware right here to bolt it back to the strut tower [Music] all right so it is a new day now got some rest clear my mind uh did get did wind up getting the front end button up about one o'clock in the morning finally got it buttoned up so the front end is done to try to sort out where all this hardware goes i kind of separated everything by size so hopefully as we put the back together it should become obvious where everything goes i hope this whole independent rear assembly we got two bolts holding on above the coil spring here and we got a single bolt holding on this so we're gonna lower the car back down get the uh get the whole assembly uh secured on jack stands uh and then get it unbolted lift the car up about five inches to be able to put our blocks in here someone from the facebook 2017 plus armada facebook page was kind enough to send me a picture of their lift installed which is a huge help to help me figure out where these pieces go um this one was confusing but it's actually the air strut and bump stop mount that's good to know so let's get the the rear end unhooked unbolted and we'll get to installing the back and see how it goes hopefully the back end doesn't take me another 12 hours [Music] all right we're gonna try to lift it again don't forget to unbolt the shocks like i did the first time [Music] there we go much better all right so now it says to lift this up five inches this brake line is already pretty pretty tight i'm not sure i can get five inches out of there maybe i have to see if i can move this at all to relieve some of that it's almost tight already but that's pretty cool the whole independent rear just drops down as a whole assembly that's neat a bunch of dirt on top of there we'll get that cleaned off these big brackets slip right in here so let me get that cleaned out and see where all the hardware goes from there okay so i finally got enough room in here to get the blocks in i had to disconnect the air hose from the the air shock here now to do that you push in on the hose and then this little red collar here you hold it in towards the body of the air shock you hold it in looks like a pair of pliers or something and then you slide uh the air hose out it's a it's like a i don't remember the name of it but it's a kind of like a quick disconnect now there will be a ton of air pressure in there and it will blow your eardrums out as soon as you pull that one out uh but do that on both sides and then i very carefully bent the uh the middle part of the brake line here to aim it up this way some more to give me some slack in the brake line did that on both sides and then there's one other piece underneath i bought about a lift so i wouldn't be working on the ground but here i am working on the ground looks like a vent hose for the differential there it has a little clip you can see i've already started putting the bracket in on the driver's side but it has a little clip here that clips into this little thing here i had to pull that clip out so that uh give me enough slack in this this vent hose to drop this carrier down so anyway that gave me enough room these little blocks here are just going to go right in here like that this big one is for the main independent rear it's got a little alignment pin on top of the spring bucket here that will go in this third hole right here that elongated one [Music] that will go in there just like that and we'll use the stock hardware and the two bolt holes that go to the frame to block this up to the frame and once that's up we gotta drill these three holes uh one behind that there into the frame to mount three bolts to bolt this thing to the frame all right guys we're making progress here we got the bump stop bracket slash air shock bracket installed since there are no uh instructions really telling you where what goes where i'll tell you guys in case it's helpful we used this this nut and a lock washer on the bump stop no washer and some loctite on the bolt going into the old bump stop mount we use the large gold bolt no washer on the bottom and the large washer with the nut on top that seemed to be the best fit so this bracket has been a royal pain in my butt the bolts in here which you tighten from the back side the holes in the bracket themselves unfortunately they weren't exactly lining up with the holes in the frame i had to remount one of the holes just to get the bolts to go in another big thing is the directions tell you use the stock hardware to bolt it back to the frame don't do that i sat there spinning these things in just to find out that they bottom out and you can't tighten them up but there are some black bolts that that came with it there's six of them one of them goes to hold this blue bracket on two of them go to hold this one on and they're about this long so they don't bottom out got about one and a half holes drilled through the frame before i completely annihilated my half inch wood bit so i need to get a metal bit tomorrow finish those up but it is bolted on the underside so that's not going to stop me from getting these bolts and everything bolted up to this bracket and then we'll just finish drilling those holes in the morning when i can get a bit here's the other side looks the same got that bracket bolted in that bracket lined up really nicely i was able to thread the bolts all the way in by hand which is nice so this piece that comes in the kit is a riser for the spare tire stop so came with eight gold washers these four bolts here with lock washers you have to put the eight washers behind the plate to space it out from the frame so that the heads of these bolts will fit on the back side and not hit the frame because the bolts were holding the plate off the first time i tried to install it so i just used the eight washers that they provided as spacers and then bolted spare tire bracket up there i'm not sure if that's supposed to be how you do it but that's how i did it and that should work just fine i did have to unhook a couple of wire harnesses here to get enough room to lift the car up you can see some of these cables are pretty tight um be wary of that i wasn't able to lift it up the full five inches they recommend even after me me bending the brake line around this one's still pretty taut so be very careful of of that when you're lifting the body up off the uh suspension piece here so that being said i think we're ready to lower the body back down onto its suspension uh get some stuff hooked up that way tomorrow when i have that bit i can just drill those last holes put those bolts in and we should be all set and ready to go there's still some more pieces here that i have no clue what they're for they appear to fit on these bolts that go through the frame but there's no it's a box frame so there's no way to get those inside so i don't know what these giant washers are for and i don't know what these standoffs are for all right so i just showed a clip saying that i didn't know what these were for i just got off the phone with steve from cal mini and steve is just great to work with he's super helpful he's proud of his products and very eager to help me out and get this right so he informed me that these are the crush sleeves that go inside the frame for the lift blocks in the back i'll show you where those go in just a second i forgot to ask him about these but i think i figured out what those are for so i'll show you over on the car in a second he also emailed me the updated instructions that have pictures that show these crushed sleeves going in so you can see i'm installing the crush sleeves into the frame here so let's bring these over to the car my lifts already installed but so i won't be putting them in in this video so after your holes drilled for these half inch bolts here then you'll take the lift block back down and you'll drill out the outer hole to three quarters of an inch slide these sleeves in and then put the bolts back through them and bolt them back up so that when you tighten your bolts down you can you can torque them down and you don't crush your frame and it also gives you a little bit of lateral rigidity uh by having these these bolts torqued down inside the frame so i will be installing those in an upcoming video as for this washer there's two of them so um i just use the standard washer down here i believe these super thick washers are to go on this hole down here in the small lift block on the front of the suspension here that's an elongated hole in the lift block i believe the larger washer is to spread the load across that elongated hole instead of a small washer like i have on there now not a big deal at the moment we pull it back apart to do the crush sleeves i'll just take those washers and replace them with these thick washers at the same time so now let's get this thing lowered back down onto the suspension i'm ready to be done with this project all right day three we are done finally got the end up getting a cold half inch cobalt tipped drill bit i drilled through much better than my wood bit of course so everything's back in place air lines connected again everything's tight a couple things i wanted to mention underneath uh watch out for your air line here when you're uh drilling through don't want to drill through your air line you got to take this wiring harness off the frame and don't drill through that of course that would suck here's everything on the driver's side plenty of slack in the brake line here now that we're all bolted up i think we're all set let's get it lowered down get some wheels put on it that's the fun part [Music] lower it down see how it looks [Music] it's on the ground for the first time now we don't have any air in the rear air shocks yet because i haven't started it and remember we disconnected the air lines uh there it is a bit squatted at the moment i think that'll come back up a little bit once we start it but yeah looks incredible i'm gonna tighten all the lugs drive it outside so you guys can check it out [Music] all right guys there it is holy smokes looks so good no i don't i am missing two center caps i have a couple on order i should be here shortly but man look at that thing oh whoops i still got put the spare tire back all right now we just got to get it to the alignment shop get it aligned so we don't eat up our new tires but man that thing looks great well guys that is my install video on our 2018 nissan armada platinum reserve with the three inch cal mini lift definitely had some challenges along the way but we made it uh now we just got to put some miles on it and see how it handles and so if you have any questions and you're doing this install feel free to leave a comment down below i'd be happy to reply to that but be sure to stay tuned for more videos we got to do some more modifications got to get rid of the fishbowl look up here um got some other things planned here oh better not leave those wiper blades there well guys i hope you enjoyed today's video be sure to subscribe if you haven't already hit that like button thank you guys so much for watching have a great night i'll talk to you next time
