hello guys and welcome to this very special a week today monday we start our christmas week and we're gonna have a special sort of videos for you guys so i was thinking about uh doing a little bit of a song but i i i like suck at singing i actually don't like singing so i rather stay away from that but if enough comments say i'll sing a little song tomorrow to celebrate the christmas just a small intro there so um what are we gonna do in this christmas week well it's gonna be a small giveaway and this giveaway it's gonna be a simple giveaway don't worry that's not like a competition where only one person is gonna win everyone wins everyone is gonna receive this um elements that we're gonna be working with and uh what we're gonna do is the following today we're gonna have a maya special class i'm gonna show you how how to make it but i'm also gonna be giving this in a way for everyone to use if they need to um we're gonna have c brush tomorrow and then substance painter on um on wednesday uh marvin said on thursday and then for friday let me know in the comments which uh other software you might wanna see we could ask maybe if alejandra is available he could help us with some blender stuff or if not we can do another maya zbrush uh any of the other softwares that i normally use so today i want to give you guys and i want to show you how to do a small scene for product presentation one of the main things that i mentioned to my students and to you guys when you submit your portfolios is that you need to make sure that you present things in the best possible way okay so we're gonna build our own scene and we're gonna make it a little bit more complex than what we've done before so normally i would just do like an infinite background remember when we create like a plane and then grab the edge loop back here move it up bevel or smooth this out right there or that corner right there and yeah that works but let's make it a little bit nicer so what we're going to do is i actually want to have like a little bit of a curtain so i need to have a small like table with a little bit of a wall and we're gonna have a curtain on top of this element so let's extrude this thing there we go now uh i would say that this table should be slightly big so i'm gonna make it like one meter square it's gonna be 100 units so that should be about it is that right am i using my big grid right here yes okay i'm using my grid so perfect so this is gonna be like my table my presentation so usually i mean if you're doing like a car or something will be like way way bigger but you can scale this up like all of this thing is going to be like scalable so don't worry uh delay history first transformation center pivot and what i need to do is i need to create a little bit of um we need to create a cloth that's going to be like dripping on top of this whole thing now i don't want if i were to create like just a single plane right here and i would do like the um the simulation the problem that we would get is that we would get like a lot of things over here and i don't want that much so instead what i'm going to do is i'm going to use this plane let's give a little more divisions like 20 divisions and i'm going to move it like right about here now a small trick a friend of mine told me this you can like use some random cuts on your object i think we've mentioned this before i don't remember if we've done if we've done this things before but there we go so i'm just gonna do a couple of like random cuts and then we select the object and go mesh smooth and that will smooth everything so that we will not have any like weird angles or anything now we're gonna go into the dynamics staff so effects um okay you know what my maya is acting we'll see how things don't update whenever this happens and i've mentioned this before what you need to do is you need to go into your documents so documents maya the version of maya and then all of the preferences or pretty much everything just delete however if you have preferences in my case for instance i have specific shelves and icons and scripts and stuff you definitely want to save this so let me show you real quick like here i actually have this folder called respaldo which is backup so i'm just going to grab like pretty much all my preferences so ctrl c ctrl b there we go and then just you close maya without saving see it even it's kind of like crashing so just there you go bye-bye maya come on there you go then we go back to documents again maya the version of maya and then all of these things just delete them and when you reopen maya all of those folders are going to be created again uh i'm just going to say use default preferences there you go so all the normal preferences are back on you're not going to have your or your icons or your shelves or anything don't worry we'll fix that real quick let's just wait for this to open real quick there you go so i usually don't like this thing to show so just click that there we go now again we close maya that's it delete the preference folder bring this one back which is our preferences and just open maya again like that usually like i would say 90 of the of the issues that could arise from using maya gets off when you do that specific uh thing so there we go let's start again so we're gonna have like a cube again let's make this like a hundred unit cube then smaller just go there grab this face ctrl e go up there we go let's grab our plane big plane let's do 20 divisions go into our cut tool do a couple of like crazy cuts again this crazy cuts is just to create a little bit more like weird topology so that when we simulate the cloth uh it looks a little bit nicer now we go into effects we go into end cloth select this guy and cloth create end cloth and then this guy and cloth create passive collider now if you hit play what's going to happen is the ankle is going to start like falling down and as you can see it will start like bulging right now of course we need a lot of elements here like let's say like 2000 there and there to give the cloth enough time to to properly simulate and give us like the wrinkles that we're going or expecting to get that's okay it's not bad see how we get those nice wrinkles now the only problem is that um this thing right here the properties the and rigid properties we need to increase the friction uh so that when the cloth actually like lands on top of that thing it kind of like holds a little bit more right like imagine like there's like small little hooks on the surface of the object and any kind of like catches all of these elements so yeah that looks good let's wait for the simulation to end to properly kind of like settle and stop there we go so as you can see this gives us a nice little background and the only reason why i'm doing this is to have a little bit of a different effect right now we could crunch this like we could go into zbrush and move it and sculpt it and do a lot of different things i don't think it's really necessary so i'm just going to keep it like this this guy we don't need what i am going to do is i'm going to probably like bring all of this elements like a little bit forward so i'm going to press a b to create a soft selection and just like bring this guys forward there we go so that's it we press number three which is smooth mode and we're gonna get some nice little wrinkles over there which again when our object is sitting right here things should look nice now i'm gonna create a little bit of a turntable if you've been in sculpting class turn tables are this like wood things that you move around so i'm gonna make this i would say like 50 50 units and then of course 10. this one let's bring a pivot point down so d and v and and now we're just gonna oh yeah i'm gonna control d to duplicate this so let's see different mesh because we don't need the uh the dynamic thing anymore there we go so let's make this bigger and that's it now the shotgun the shotgun is probably gonna it's probably gonna be one of the most important things so rendering camera panels look through selected and this is gonna be my shot a little bit like trick quarter view let's turn on our resolution gate because this is what we're going to be seeing um i kind of want things to be a little bit bigger so this one definitely bigger so that we don't see any other parts and now this thing's sitting like nicely on top of it there we go perfect so this will rename we'll call this a cloth a geo this is turntable geo and of course let's do a little bit of modeling on this guy because it looks way too weak so i am gonna grab the edge loops like here and here press b again to get rid of uh soft selection i'm gonna the ctrl b to bevel two fractions and something like that and sometimes there's like a little bit of a detail like in the in the inner parts i'm going to control i and ctrl f11 on that vertica to select all of those faces offset a little bit and then this edge loop i'm going to ctrl b to bevel it fraction and then grab that little guide right there ctrl e and bring it down there we go so now when we say mesh smooth we should have a very nice there we go very nice effect of course when we do the full smooth you can see that it's going to be super super round which is again close to what we're looking for so let me bring any model i'm just gonna import any model so that you guys can see how this thing is eventually gonna work so let's say let's go for assets uh which one was cool vampire cobalt do we have the vampire cold if you guys didn't see this one this is an old really old uh it's one of it was one of the first models that we did on the channel it's one of the small projects that we did and it's this this vampire called there we go so that guy looks cool so i'm gonna go here panels look through selected and you would position your character in such a way that you can see him in the middle of the turntable now you're free to change the scale of the turntable so for instance if you need to like really zoom in or out uh feel free to to change it around right this is uh one of the cool things about the scene that you're going to have that you're going to be able to customize this customized cost to mice it as much as you want now i'm going to keep the lightning situation super simple so that i can share with you without any like problems um but you're free to add an hdr later on to get like even better results so let's go into arnold lights or sorry uh here setup arnold i'm gonna say system change this to gpu from the get go and let's start with our key lights so i'm gonna go arnold lights area light and usually the first aerial light i'm gonna call this so that you guys know this is called the main light and the main light should be positioned on a place where you're going to get like the most of the of the of the render and how do you know which position that's going to be well it depends on the composition but usually you want the um the main light to be either on the light on the left or the right so let's grab the shotgun again panels bluetooth selected there we go i'm actually going to change my composition here square compositions are a little bit more common nowadays not saying that uh rectangular compositions are bad it's just like for this particular guy you can see that it works a little bit better now very important focal length that's something that you're gonna have to change i'm actually gonna rename this camera shotgun for you guys as well so once you get the scene you should see this as shotcam for this kind of photographs i would recommend like a 55 focal length because it's a little bit like flatter and you you don't see as much distortion there we go so let's go here and um now let's go arnold and render and we're gonna select the shotgun of course and then it's rendering but what's the problem we don't have enough light so let's start playing with the exposure let's try like a 15 there we go that looks good let's go a little bit higher like an 18 too much 17 too much 16. that's a nice that's a nice amount i usually like this one being a little bit warm so i'm gonna use color temperature and make it a little bit warmer just a little bit like this there we go see nice little um nice little illumination right there now i am going to create i'm actually just going to duplicate this light move it to the other side go over here there we go and this one's going to be cool so i'm going to make this a little bit cooler usually it's roughly the same intensity not exactly the same like i would go a little bit lower to like a 14 or something probably like a 15 here so that we get a little bit of something but uh we still get some some nice nice like nice light shadows over there so something like this see how nice this looks like instead of having just a a basic um what's the word a basic like picture or render from from zbrush having one of these turntables will really help your portfolio and finally i'm going to grab one other light control d this one's going to go up here and it's going to be like a rim light coming on the on the back side of the character i'm actually going to change this to a cylinder sorry a disc like a spotlight you can see how it's going there i'm really going to crank this one up like 18 but then what i'm going to do is i'm going to reduce the spread so it's only hitting as you can see here like the back side of the of the character so it's going to really just give me a very nice rim light over there we go it's just something like this now of course we definitely need to bring this this thing down i'm even tempted to like bring it close to the character there we go so it's just a little bit of that extra punch there and you can get some of this effects with the uh what's the word you can press the letter t oh no they don't have this one here so i'm just gonna try and there we go kind of like a like a spotlight on the character right so see how it it shines very nicely over there quite cool right quite cool now that's not all i'm also going to give you a couple materials here that are going to make everything look a little bit nicer i personally like adding a like sort of uh i'm gonna call it well it's actually not language assign a new material right click arnold um [Music] ai standard surfaces so i'm gonna call this m clay material and this clean material it's not a clean material because we're not going to be using normals or anything it's just going to give this sort of like waxy effect to the whole thing because otherwise it just looks like lambert i've seen some people use like blue colors or red colors i'm really fond of the like the orangey color so i'm gonna go for like a dark orangey here something like that i think looks looks cool maybe a little bit more desaturated there we go that's a little bit better a little bit more rough so it's not super shiny kind of looks like monster clay if you guys ever sculpted with like a traditional clay there's a brand called monster clay and it sort of has this this finish and if you want to go like the extra mile then having subsurface scattering might be a really good idea instead so i'm going to go some surface color it's going to be that one right there and then the radius we can select like a like a dark red color right there and you're gonna see how this looks a little bit more again like waxy like like skin uh scale that's something that you're definitely gonna have to play depend play with depending on the on the size of your character so the smaller your character the smaller the scale has to be so in this case like a point two i think is gonna work fine uh we'll only gonna get a little bit of that effect on like the thinnest parts otherwise you're gonna see the effect pretty much everywhere but yeah as you can see this is it's not looking bad it's looking a little bit better now again this is a little bit of overkill so if you don't want to use um if you don't want to use a surface don't worry you can just turn this off and then go back here to the weight and turn it on and it's just going to be like a plasticky or waxy material so whichever one you want uh that one that one's gonna work very nice for you guys now uh what else well we're gonna grab this base and we definitely need i would love to have like a wood texture you guys know or hopefully most of you guys know how to assign a new like wood texture to the object i'm only gonna be sharing the maya scene not the whole like uh like folders and stuff that's why you're not gonna have all of this elements uh but let me show you real quick how would you like assign a new like wood element so i'm gonna add ai's center surface and then of course you just connect here on the on the color you would kind of like like a color uh element right so i'm not sure if i have any like wood elements i i think we did some for the for the lighthouse right like the tileable wood yeah i guess this could work yeah so if we do that uh of course we're gonna have the uh the wood texture over there i would strongly recommend that you add a sort of like a wood texture i think this would with no pun intended would look a little bit better so let me just add like uh like the normal map and i think that that one's gonna work great i can't yeah like you're in in your scene once you open this one and i'll tell you where i'm going to be sharing this at the end of the video uh you will be able to just like download any sort of like wood material and replace it there so hopefully this is not too difficult for for you guys tangent space normals and then here let's go for that lighthouse uh tile level wood and oh we don't have yeah there we go so normal gl there we go open so and remember this one since it's a normal map it should be set to raw and as you can see that gives us a nice effect on the on the element because it breaks up the the roughness a little bit and now uh let's tile it just a little bit more so i'm gonna say like three and three and this one's also gonna be three and three and now you can see there's gonna be like a couple more planks and in that way things are gonna look nicer so see how nicer this like render looks no no big deal right now if you want to be extra extra fancy and i know some of you have done this this is the kind of thing that a lot of people add to the renders just to make them look a little more professional even though you really don't need it but it looks so so not fancy it's the little three spheres right so the sphere the first sphere we're gonna call this uh chrome chrome sphere right click assign new material right click assign a new material it's going to be an arnold ai standard surface we're going to call this m chrome and we just bring the metalness all the way up and the roughness all the way down so now we have a chrome sphere right there to show the the environment and then this one right here the sphere is going to be called m or white sphere white sphere there we go right click assign new material arnold ai standard surface and this one uh we have no specularities just a matte sphere so no specularity and we leave or actually no i think you can have like you can keep the specularity just have like a relatively high roughness and this one should be perfectly white like total white why because that's when we're gonna see whether or not things are being uh burnt and then finally this one sinu material arnold a standard surface this is going to be m gray and this is supposed to be 50 grade so 0.5 there we go same same thing here roughness should be up so that we don't see any sort of elements and again this spheres people like to place them like on on different like positions here instead of the of the of the world let's call this gray sphere there you go so you can just like move them around and have them wherever you want these are just for for reference okay now usually because we we do turn tables i mean this kind of looks like a turntable usually turntables last about five seconds so five seconds is 120 frames so i'm going to go 120 frames and what i'm going to do here is i'm going to create a new group ctrl g and i'm going to call this turntable animation okay now everything any single thing that i want to turn around i'm just gonna parent it to that element to that group so i'm just gonna hit p so anything that's inside the turntable animation will move around uh this turntable and i'm just gonna animate real quick i'm gonna press s in frame number one i'm going to go from 120 and rotate this 360 degrees so that we go all the way back to the to the beginning and the very important i'm going to select this group and go into windows animation address graph editor and i'm going to change this from um what's the word from spline to linear this is in case you want to have like several turns otherwise it's going to slow in and slow out and this is going to be more like a like a constant rotation if you're going to keep it splined that's fine it looks very nice however if you want to do like again repetition then usually this is what you're going to change i'm going to keep it in splines for now or that's fine let's keep it linear and now if i were to go here and say panels look to selected and i hit play what's going to happen is we're going to have this guy rotating around the whole thing now there's a little bit of overlap there so i would be inclined to probably like move these things all the way up here so that the tail does not clip on the on the elements uh but that's it guys like as you can see this is a very like basic let's just rename things chrome sphere this is main light this is fill light and this is rim light so all of the elements are here named for you guys and ready to be used so if you ever need to present something and you don't have time use this small gift from our part to create a very very cool render let's take a look here just um let's render this real quick give me just one second here there we go so boom there we go so as you can see if we move this thing around and we render you're gonna see like the result from every single angle so if we uh if you guys are not aware how to render a full sequence uh remember you have to go to this little eye right here render render sequence hit this little box option and make sure again render render sequence little box option and make sure oh my god render render sequence box option thank you maya and we hit uh shotgun make sure that it's shotcam render sequence and close and what's going to happen is as long as in the setup you have everything set up from frame 1 to 120 you're gonna get the full the four runner in this case i don't i'm just i just have frame one uh but this is how would you how you would render so that's it guys first gift of the week again this is gonna be available now where this is gonna be available right that's the that's the big question let me show you real quick so i created a folder a couple of months ago for you guys give me just one second to bring it up there we go so it's this one right here it's called the next dude assets folder you probably saw it on the diwali lamp and on the majora's mask of render um if you haven't seen that one it's going to be on this link right here but the scene is going to be right here i'm actually going to create a new little folder here called our christmas christmas gifts so every single day we're going to have a new christmas gift today it's this render setup scene that i wanted to share with you so for all of you that are still learning and and want to present some of your first maybe maybe you're just beginning to molly inside of my eye and you did like the barrel or or like the chess board that we have on our intro to maya course and you want to present it in a nice way just download the scene load the materials that you need and you're gonna be good to go so that's it guys we start this week this very special week for all of us or hopefully well i'm not sure if everyone celebrates christmas we do over here so it is a very special week for me um and yeah leave the comments make sure to let us know what you think and i'll see you guys tomorrow bye
