one of the essential customization features in xenoblade 3 is the gem system even if it may not seem like a difficult system to understand it can be difficult to decide what gems to invest in and use in your playthrough when you only have three slots total farming for some of the later enemy drops for gems can also be a bit of a pain without some proper strategies so in this video i want to discuss and explain the gem system talk about all the gems and how useful they are and showcase how to effectively grind materials for later levels of gem crafting mostly gems level 8 through 10 which require a pretty absurd amount of materials if you enjoy guides like these and want to see more xenoblade 3 content make sure to subscribe the channel as it does help me out so much let's get into it so first things first the gem system in this game is somewhat similar to an upgrade equipment feature if you go to any campsite you will have the ability to do gem crafting gems are equippable bonuses for the characters in combat essentially this game has a list of 20 different possible gems and each gem will start off at level 1 and you will need to gather materials to craft more subsequent levels all the way up to level 10 maximum for the gym that is the strongest you can equip up to 3 of these 20 gems in the menu to each character to boost your combat abilities you are free to reuse the same gem on all characters if you want as well among these abilities include flat stat boosts as well as some strong unique effects that can be very helpful the major limitation to gems compared to something like accessories is that you are limited by how strong your gems are based on if you can craft them or not which means you need to find the proper materials we'll get more into that part later i want to focus on all of the gems and talk about their effects first the gems seem divided into four categories with one line focusing on tanking one on attack one on healing and one that seems diverse with extra effects in our first column here are gems that are designed for 10 classes to increase their tanking abilities the first one is a very simple agility increase this starts at a minimum of 10 and will go all the way up to 35 at max rank agility has traditionally been a pretty strong stat innovation can be very powerful for a tank since not getting hit at all means aggro will be reduced at an even lower rate and healers will have less to worry about as well mio's primary class is an agility tank and thus flat agility can be pretty helpful when boosted by other effects to give her or anyone else using her class the highest evasion rate possible i haven't seen any perfect dodge tank that evades absolutely everything as of yet but with enough agility stacking mio can do a pretty solid job at evading most things and as such this can be a useful gem for those types of classes the second gem is designed to be a bit more for face tank type characters this increases block rates by five percentage points at minimum and thirty percentage points at max not thirty percent but 30 percentage points this means it will flatly raise how often you will guard by 30 when maxed out lower levels effects of this gem are not too strong and i'd say it's definitely one that scales a lot better the higher level it is blocking an attack will reduce damage taken of the attack by half so it is a good way to get some free damage reduction tanks that already have a high guard rate could really hit a strong block rate with this effect if they have a reliable way to keep aggro this could mean the difference between a tank blocking 4 out of every 10 attacks to blocking 7 out of every 10 attacks which is a significant effect that said at low levels it won't affect how much damage you take too much and it still may not absolutely be essential if the tank has trouble keeping aggro then this effect is not going to end up being that strong at all so that's something to keep in mind next up we have ultimate counter which will deal a percentage of attack damage every time the character takes damage this is essentially a spike damage effect and to get the total amount of damage you just multiply the attack stat of your character by the percentage in this case mio's 993 turns into 2780 spike damage because we have a 280 multiplier this shows up as a purple number when the attack connects typically this effect isn't that strong compared to how good art damage normally is by comparison and it's even weaker if you don't invest in any attack on tanks i'd say this gem is okay in the early game but it scales very poorly as damage numbers get higher and higher while attack continues to scale more linearly grimming spirit is the next gem which is an increase to aggro generated when using art a 20 increase at minimum and a 45 increase at maximum this skill is okay boosting aggro gain can absolutely be very valuable for a tank but if you have sufficient damage already and if you are controlling the tank classes yourself you can likely get aggro without this which would make this effect not that strong at all tanks generally have built-in ways of getting aggro into their kits as well you can also get more aggro by doing more damage and in many cases you can gain more aggro from that and i'd say one gem effect later on will completely invalidate this which i'll explain later when we get to it doing more damage means you will also be killing the enemy quicker perilous presence is next this allows you to start the battle with aggro already and presumably it has a higher aggro value the higher level of the gym it is a gym like this is very niche for situations where you need to avoid a one shot on your primary controlled character at all costs for some reason early on in a fight in a longer drawn out boss battle this effect is not going to be great and i can't recommend it over other ways of getting aggro the next column is the attack based column and the first gem just increases the attack stat by a flat amount 20 at level 1 and 70 at level 10. since there's no stat like blade auto attack and validating the standard attack stat in this game and i can assume all damage calculations are just based on the attack stat then a flat boost to attack is actually going to be a pretty strong effect and a decent damage increase on everything you do this is pretty much a universally useful gem for all attacker and tank classes that you can just fit on whenever if you don't know what else to use extra attack is never going to be something that is bad so this will always be a useful gem it may not always be one of the best 3 options but it is never going to be a hindrance next up we have a flat dexterity increase dexterity is essentially your accuracy rating this is a more specific gem accuracy is obviously a very important stat since you can't do any damage at all unless you hit the enemy but enemies also have varying levels of agility if an enemy is very evasive a dexterity boost can really be worth bringing along especially with agnes classes that need to hit the enemy with auto attacks for their recharge this also could be helpful for full metal jaguar since you gain damage based on not missing attacks essentially don't underestimate the power of dexterity in fights where you'll be having trouble hitting next up we have one of the two strongest effects of all the gems in my opinion increasing critical hit damage bonus this used to be called critical damage in xenoblade 2. essentially this will strengthen the power of your critical hits by an even stronger percentage than the base 25 percent assuming it is still based 25 percent this effect when maxed out can give you some critical hits that will be nearly double damage which is pretty insane now obviously this isn't going to be that strong for classes that have a low critical hit rate but any class with a decent to a great critical hit rate can benefit greatly from this class and it synergizes super well with a certain crit based class you get a little later all in all very strong effect next up we have a very specific gem once again swelling scourge which increases the power of debuff effects and since they go hand in hand the next gem refined incantation will increase the duration of debuff effects both of these gems focus on debuffs inflicted to enemies and as such will be a lot more useful on classes that have strong debuffs to apply to enemies which is a few of them on those such classes it's definitely worth bringing these effects along as it can makes fights a lot easier if you can only fit one i'd say direction is probably more useful than power to keep an enemy weaker for longer but ultimately that decision is up to you since either would be helpful next up we have the healing based column and the first effect is just increasing the healing stat which simply makes your heel stronger i don't personally see the need for this skill because most healing has been fine for me throughout the game but if you're playing on hard mode it could be a lot more useful but even then i'd say another one of these is likely going to be a better option in most situations overall run this on a healer if you really need the extra power for your heels next up is soothing breath this increases the healing stat by a much smaller amount but it also lets you revive allies with more health than they would have had otherwise i don't think revival health is all that high to begin with so a 45 increase is not going to have a major impact especially since the nuclear vibe character shouldn't have aggro anyway and should hopefully be held up before anything detrimental happens again just watch out for some aoe attacks this next gem i actually find a much more useful life-saving expertise will increase the speed of reviving allies and also gives a slight bonus to healing since both revives can take quite a bit being able to do it in nearly half the time is very helpful in a game with six party members that are much squishier overall than in previous games this can also synergize well with one such accessory which restores your arts completely when you revive a character make it so you can instantly heal anyone you revive and do it again if people are still dying overall in this type of game this is a good ability and helps a lot more than you might think since it allows healers to do additional things it's more time to be attacking and healing and it also keeps the rest of your party alive for more total time for more damage as well very much worth having this ability on healers the next two skills also go hand in hand and are kind of the reverse of the debuff skills in this game we have swelling blessing which boosts the power of buff effects issued and refined blessing which extends the duration of buff effects on any healer that has a strong party-wide buff or two these are very strong abilities to bring along even more so than debuff since enemies can actually resist debuffs but you can always get your buffs and especially if you're using the signifier class it will turn the game into absolute comedy with all the strong buff stacking you can do overall really strong abilities on the classes that have buffs and our final column here seems to be a mix and match of a lot of different types of abilities and effects the first of these is a flat stat boost to maximum health if you find yourself needing more survivability especially on the lower health healers this can be a good gem to run face tanks could also use this if needed since more health means you can do your job not dying even better overall a decent effect and situationally good next up we have steady striker which shortens auto attack interval or the time between auto attacks honestly i don't find this to be too useful in this game auto attacks aren't really a major source of damage in this game and attacking faster only serves to benefit agnes arts which already have an advantage even without an effect like this so you'd still be waiting for fusion arts if you wanted to use those anyway not to mention canceling arch restores arts for those classes as well this might be something to run for using a lot of longer cooldown agnes arts and really need to keep your cooldowns up as much as possible but overall it's probably not going to be the most worthwhile effect outside of maybe one class that gets some bonuses from auto attacking fast similarly double strike gives a chance of attacking twice per auto attack which again only really serves to help agnes arts come off cooldown faster auto attack damage just isn't going to be as strong as art damage especially because of this next effect and powered combo which is one of the two best gems on this chart when canceling out of an auto attack or an art into another art damage will be boosted by 25 at minimum and 75 at maximum this is a very strong effect and unlike critical damage works well with essentially every class that wants to do damage this is another reason the aggro gain aren't on arch gym isn't that great since you could just get more damage from your art by running this which translates to more aggro the one negative of this is that it doesn't apply in chain attacks that you can't cancel there unfortunately but outside of chain attacks this is a universally amazing gem for attackers and defenders alike sometimes even healers too i'd recommend it on most setups the final gem is dispersed bloodlist which just acts to reduce aggro gain when using art this is only a problem if you are playing an attacker and just out damaging your ai teammates by a mile and can afford to give up a gem slot for it to actually stay alive in fights all in all i'd say this is kind of an obligation gym rather than something you'd actually want to use if that makes sense and hopefully the rest of your team can keep aggro if you set them up properly or you can just swap the tank yourself to ensure good aggro before swapping to an attacker so those are all the possible effects of gems in this game and as stated you can equip any three you want on any one provided you're level 40 to have all three slots of course so with that done i want to showcase a quick grinding method to get these materials for later levels faster as you likely won't be doing this until much later in the game i may be using arcs for spoiler weapons to kind of show this off so please be careful of that i will not show any heroes themselves i'm not going to say where you can find all the materials because there's just way too much but the good news is basically any high level enemy of the type you're looking for can likely drop the material you need so just be on the lookout when playing you can also pin the items for a gem you want to crack with the plus button to know when you need to get one of the materials needed i'm sure the wiki will be updated or a spreadsheet will be made for all this stuff before long to help find material locations as far as how to actually get the materials when you find the correct enemies first you are going to want to cook with manana to get the best possible enemy item drop boost effect this will ensure you get more items and more chances for the stuff you need next you're going to want to set up your party to stack as many effects of the burst combo as possible this means break topple days and burst effects everywhere use your master art slots to help and just try to get like three or four of each effect do not break launch for smash we only want burst every time you apply burst on an enemy it will drop items this is a very efficient method and getting a lot of drops very fast i'd also recommend running the brake brooch on any character that you have with a break guard assuming you have enough or just on the characters that have the shortest cooldown breaks or the strongest breaks running increased duration on topple and days can also help you keep the enemy in the state for longer so you can get to the burst now normal enemies can die pretty quickly so i'd recommend finding an elite monster usually there's always going to be one nearby you can also make your entire party tanks and healers to keep the enemy alive longer if you want and unique monsters should also work although they'll probably be a bit tougher and more annoying and the strategy really is just simple as break topple days and then to burst at the beginning of the fight your ai's not going to have a lot of their arch charged up their master arts so it'll be a little bit more difficult to get one off at the very beginning of the fight but as you get further into the fight everyone will have their arts up they'll be able to use topple days burst a lot more frequently i'm controlling noah here with two brake hearts just because why not and i gave him a break brutes to decrease brake resistance even further on these enemies to make sure i can do that properly and there just from a quick burst we were able to get some items from that enemy and he's instantly broken once again just waiting on someone to topple him now which should hopefully happen pretty soon here so if you're still finding yourself killing enemies too quickly doing too much damage you can kind of your setup to where you don't have that much damage because if you're just trying to get items you kind of want the enemy to be as live as long as possible so you don't have to like reset skip travel points just to respawn the enemy and stuff so that is something to keep in mind as well and as you can probably see now we're getting a lot more burst a lot more often now so we're getting quite a few enemy items here and once you kill the enemy it'll also drop its items again so you can get the items even quicker it's definitely a pain to farm all the materials you need but it's definitely not nearly as bad as xenoblade x that you can get a lot of materials mid combat as well and you don't have to like reset everything constantly all the time and get like 96 of some material so i guess it could be a lot worse still i'm not a fan of the eight through ten levels having so many materials myself but i guess it is what it is this kind of strategy where you focus a lot on driver combos can be very efficient against unique monsters as well if you're just trying to beat them um super bosses probably if they can be broken at all this would be pretty decent strategy if you're having some trouble so that's something to keep in mind and this kind of strategy is very repeatable if you have other enemies nearby that you can farm from other unique monsters that have or elite monsters that have stuff you want you can just go straight into another fight a lot of times and go for more bursts like i will be able to do here and get more ign items that we really really want for something although i don't really need it at this point i'm just showing it off regardless there's a days and we can get a burst very quickly with noah here and get some items that's really all they're about they're all there is to it to this kind of strategy here just um very very similar to smash combo farming for core crystals and xenoblade 2 so if you're familiar with that you can do this just fine and if you are familiar with the hell it was to get coast most then this should be no problem for you if you're just trying to get stuff like i said before i don't know where to find all the materials offhand or anything like that because there's a lot of them just keep your eye out for strong high level enemies that are named the things that have the items you want essentially that's kind of what i was able to do as i explored the world so that's something you can do as well that hopefully won't be too difficult and i'm sure in like a week or two maybe they'll probably be like a spreadsheet with all this kind of stuff or where all the materials are because that's usually what ends up happening with these games so i'm sure that that won't be a problem pretty soon that should cover it for this guy at an explanation so i really hope you guys learned something for this and please look forward to more guides on xenoblade chronicles 3 coming very soon i plan to cover all classes i'll probably talk about the best accessories i'll probably talk about the heroes themselves and kind of the bonuses they bring to combat with chain attacks and all the like so you will be able to understand this game very very well by the time i'm done and eventually we'll probably do like a class tier list as well because why not so yeah hope you guys are looking forward to that please subscribe the channel if you're looking forward to all the guides or want to see more content from me um like the video comment down below if you need to have any questions or anything like that i will be happy to answer and yeah have a wonderful and blessed day thanks for watching
