professions a core part of your character's customization in wow and in rafter lich king they undergo quite a few changes today we'll take a look at the eight primary professions what bonuses they give which one you should consider and why i'll be focusing on the things that are unique and interesting for each profession i don't want this to be an exhaustive list of every small bonus or benefit or to cover the obvious such as enchanters genuine charms before we do though a few things to keep in mind pretty much every profession will do something useful for every class and spec it's just some are a little bit better this will also be an overall look through professions because this is an every other game where blizzard has in the past delayed changes until they were patch appropriate such as the nature resist gear releasing alongside aq40 in vanilla or dragon more becoming one-handed in tbc with the release of za i'll try and mention every case where you should expect something to not be about from launch as well also blizzard aimed to get profession bonuses a lot closer together in wrath than they have been previously i'm gonna do a quick comparison across all profession specific bonuses for attack power and we'll be considering one strength there's two attack power for this just to show you how small a difference differences really are for alchemy you get a bonus of 82 blacksmithing you get two times 40 enchanting's 2 times 40. engineering has no flat stat allocation inscription is plus 80 dual crafting is plus 84 leather working is plus 80 and for tailoring there are no flat gains note that engineering and tailoring aren't useless if you did want attack power they just have different benefits which we'll get onto later so overall it's very different in terms of how much power you are gaining remember how you went aldor because it was meant to be better than scribes but then it cost you three times as much to get to exalted for a tiny bonus and you replaced all your gear within a few weeks it very well could be that all over again so i hope all that makes sense let's make a start alchemy remains a mainstay as an important as ever profession for raiding rafter lich king is the start of pre-potting before an encounter rather than just using potions every two minutes as of when you wish main benefits include new alchemy stones which are just okay as they always have been epic gem transmutes for when epic gems are available more on that later discoveries are no longer a complete rng as they are in tbc where you just have to make potions and hope you get lucky instead they're now part of northrend alchemy research which is on a two-day cooldown most eternal transmute discoveries are still rng though because i'm not sure reasons you get one extra hour on flasks you get a flask of the north which is a reusable item to buff your stats by a small amount it was originally added in patch 3.2 and i think it will be available from launch this was because alchemy didn't have any persistent benefit whilst not having a flask active or when in arena where you can't use flasks but this reusable item is introduced to make sure that alchemy is more worth to consider when you do use an actual flask you get a bonus via mixology which will be either 47 spell power 700 health 20 mp5 or 82 attack power these should be correct values for the final patch blacksmithing next first of all your specialization doesn't really matter anymore nor does which weapon mastery you took though they still exist they're just for classic and tpc items in terms of new craftables there are many powerful boes which release with each subsequent tier and this will continue on throughout the expansion you have your standard suite of new blacksmithing items from skeleton keys to shield spikes a new item is the belt buckle which are tradable and creates yet another gem slot on your belt these will be needed throughout the expansion by everybody as a bonus for the blacksmith you get two extra sockets one on your braces and one on your gloves these stack with existing sockets on the items and all added sockets are prismatic meaning you can jam anything in them and they will count towards activating your meta gem enchanting no longer needs you to stand in the middle of orgrimmar or stormwind and spam that you are selling enchants bribes can now make an item you apply your enchants to and then you post them directly on the auction house you'll also get ringing chance which only you can benefit from so long as you still have the profession these will be two times 40 attack power 23 spell power or 30 stamina engineering okay so in wrath engineering goes back to being absolutely insane back in the day i had engineering on literally every character i played because it just offers so much first of all the best bonus engineers have by far is the auction house in dalaran seriously nobody wants to go back to stormwind.org every time they need to use the auction house or to re-log it's just annoying this is a really nice bit of convenience they get several unique glove upgrades one of which is the hyper speed accelerators which goes very well with trinkets potions and snapshotting hand mounted pyro rockets are another one which add a bit more burst to your rotation engineers also get cloak upgrades which will be a bit of agility or spell power and allow you to get a slow fall effect on any class and you are gonna need some way to tag that time loss proto-drake out of the air safely right note for this tailors also get a cloak upgrade but that one is way better so you'll have to think about that when making the choice and finally a unique boot upgrade in nitro boost which gives some crit rating an actual reel how i remember them being nitro boost i'm going to be honest when i first used the quote-unquote nitro boots in classic i was kind of disappointed they were more like run a little bit faster for a little bit boots in tbc sure they go really fast but they don't last very long the wrath versions are the real deal though a lot of fun they're just great for literally everything and on a three minute cooldown every class can have excellent repositioning and mobility you get your usual expected items with engineering new types of goggles you get new flying machines you get to get to the chopper you get jeeves who's a reusable repair or vendor you get a portable mailbox you get an amish army knife which combines every profession tool i genuinely think that everybody on every character should be engineering in wrath of the lich king it's just too good too much utility too many cool things i will be going it again for sure personally inscription new profession this goes together with the new glyph system to upgrade your character's spells and add quality of life such as removing reagents for certain spells it works on a basis that you break down herbs to create inks which are then used in these glyphs or offhands or scrolls or whatever else it is you're making sort of like how prospecting for jewelcrafting was an item sink for mining materials this is the counterpart for herbing glyphs are learned at your trainer or are acquired through a daily research similar to how alchemy works darkmoon fare cards are now also made through this profession but it's super high rng getting the one you want a full nobles deck rewards darkmoon card greatness for example which should fetch a huge price early if it's as good as i remember it being bribes can also make an item to rename their pet haunter only though not for warlocks scribes get a special shoulder enchant the alternative to this would be from sons of hodir exalted where if we're releasing on final patch it should be an account wide token so you'd only need to do it once nevertheless the inscription ones will always be better when compared to the sons of houdia they will either give 80 more attack power 46 more spell power or 40 more dodge rating glyphs will be in incredibly high demand of course but for a lot of people they're going to be a one-time buy i'd say if you can really know life wrath early inscription would be a good one to go with due to how much potential gold there is in having access to the good glyphs early as well as creating darkmoon card sets your crafting gets gems for everything now armapen expertise haste you name it it exists this is what makes this such a strong choice over other professions you get the bonus you want new things include a cooldown item for gems the icy prison which is the equivalent to what brilliant glasses in tbc should be in from day one but don't expect it to give epic gems from day one there's a daily quest for dalaran jewelcrafters tokens these are then turned in to learn various patterns in patch 3.2 which is trial of the crusader there is also titanium powder from prospecting titanium ore which can then be turned in as well for tokens making it really easy to unlock new items i do not think this will be in from launch and that you will have to do your dailies speaking of things that won't be out at launch don't expect epic gems to be in the game from day one there was a pretty big profession rework in patch 3.2 which is when they were added and again that's on trial of the crusader blizzard have kept epic gems back in tbc until bt and hydra was released expect something similar in wrath fuel crafters get three times dragon eye gems as their bonus these are 70 better than regular gems they can't be traded and you must maintain jewelcrafting to keep their bonuses originally in wrath dragon eye bonuses were buffed in 3.2 to reflect the introduction of epic gems now the old version of dragon's eye is absolutely nowhere online that i can find so i'm assuming their stats were the same formula as epic gems however blizzard may just put in the final version of dragon eye gems from launch since it's the most fair across all last patch profession bonuses and i think this would be the right thing to do i just thought i'd give it a mention jewelcrafting also gets some very powerful early game trinkets as well it's better than others due to how much choice you can have and it's literally just more stats leatherworking much like blacksmithing your spec doesn't matter anymore but you do have a lot of powerful crafty gear to make as the expansion progresses you get a very cheap to apply version of the leg armors this is just a gold saver to you you can still make the boe versions which are then traded you get bracer resist in chance nothing's jumping to mind when this is relevant perhaps there is a boss that i'm not remembering this is a bonus of 70 resists to either arcane fire frost nature or shadow the biggest bonus is on the bracer where you can either get 76 spell power 46 more than enchanting 130 attack power 80 more than enchanting or 102 stamina 62 more than enchanting finally tailoring much like leatherworking you have a gold saber version of legend chance to apply for your own gear for a few silver in addition to the boe versions you get a flying carpet so you can look stylish when you get around northrend there are several new three-day cooldown items to make much like tbc your specialization should update to the wrath of the lich king counterpart in the pre-patch shadowcloth becomes ebonweave spellcloth becomes spellweave and mooncloth becomes moonshroud you also get a passive chance to find additional cloth when out in the world as for the bonus for the tailor personally you get embroideries these are very strong procs which are applied to your cloak excellent for when you're lining up cooldowns and snapshotting they are either 295 spell power for 15 seconds 400 attack power for 15 seconds or a proc to restore 400 mana and that is it so in short go engineering jewelcrafting tailoring is also strong and blacksmithing is an option too early on as the two extra sockets offer a good amount of flexibility on gearing whilst the other professions are fine and there's definitely gold to be made it's just you want as much choice as possible from the benefits you have for example enchanting can only ever give attack power to a class that cares about physical dps but you're probably either gonna want hidden expertise early on and then armor pen later which only blacksmithing and jewelcrafting allow you to do that on top of those engineering is just kind of insane it's hard to put a dps value on rocket boots but being alive dealing with mechanics fast or repositioning are just always good this on top of the gloves and the cloak and everything else it just has so much going for it i know i'm going to be putting some gold into the materials for an alt to hold for when wrath happens and because it's still so far away it does make sense to do it sooner than later prices are only ever going to go up that's everything for the primary profession secondaries will follow let me know your thoughts if anything on everything we've gone over and as always thank you all so much for watching and listening in i shall see you all in the next one very soon [Music] you
