who missed the uh the window this time around we'll hopefully do it again next year yes so uh that'll be exciting but we've got to play this terrible game I going to say we yeah I mean there's only one of us who can play the terrible game ye cuz there's two roles on this show yes the game's victim mhm who plays the game and the game's master who currently is not in possession of his science fact box who brings along science facts down there science facts so we can learn as we play who's who what's going on uh I am the person who's not in possession of the science fact Bo it's down there uh and Ben is playing the game uh you are the victim I'm the victim and you are the master that's right oh chaotic today who he knows what's going on would you like to know what you are playing I would all time you should go and watch after this um this one was uh I don't understand why we've not played this sooner um maybe it's because it's too bad I can't actually say uh in in good conscience that I have vetted this game ahead of time I normally do but it's been a very a very busy a very busy day today yes we've got a stream in 45 minutes yeah so I just grabbed it and we're just going to hope that it's good bad um and not just really really uninteresting and not very nice to watch but uh we'll find out someone on this table knows whether it'll be fun and interesting that's true the Oracle really good I'm curious as to what they were thinking when they tried to Pivot away from a an actual you know fighting game they just thought hey we've got such a great roster of characters people want to see them doing other stuff like cart race yeah why wasn't there a moral K with a a a car racer K Car Racer There was actually a mini game in one of them where you could car that's right actually yeah I'm aware of that fality before anyone Ang types in the comments um I think you're fine they should have done a spin-off okay look how jacked he is oh my God that's why he's called that hul Hulk Hogan um I do remember in I think the very first hunky boys list we ever did on uh a different Channel you uh we wrote the line I don't know which one of us wrote it but you delivered it talk about being jacked to the Briggs yes yeah that is you want to tell me about it before I start sure um Mortal Kombat Special Forces is a 2000 action adventure beatm up video game developed and published by Midway for the PlayStation in in 2000 even though it did just say a 2000 action adventure video thanks Wikipedia right we're going in look out you're going to hit that pole no Koo wanted first deegree murder oh no warning Special Forces okay oh how's bricks oh bloody hour they've done they all look here they come they've ared why are they walking like that cuz they're tough Ben that's how tough people walk they're practically a posing though yeah these the Special Forces yeah there's very little noise am I not part of the Special Forces I don't know I'm not really sure maybe there Gemini we have a breakout at the special for's maximum security facil damn it a group of Highly dangerous superhuman criminals has escaped the compound not superhuman criminals the list of escap Sanchez not to infiltrate the warehouse until my arrival we have just arrived at the location and we are your orders don't go in there a it's a trap oh no the the transmission has been interrupted this is disastrous a spin-off of the Mortal Kombat franchise this is the second installment to not be a fighting game and the first 3D spin-off oh oh no is that Lieutenant Sanchez a jack oh man put on a shirt dude look that leg is on fire is this leg on fire you're going to for this you're going to pay for this kick kick kick punch kick punch punch that's a high punch he punches god wow oh my God imagine being hit by a metal arm doing that that would be really bad Biff blood uh am I allowed to block or sometimes you're just missing even though you're right in front of him he's blocking I think wow they're pretty tough AR they they got a lot of health is this a boss am I meant to win wow if they're all going to be like that that's the first enemy you encountered that took a lot of hits yeah oh Christ okay has he got a health bar in the top right uh kicking my ass kicking my ass ass yeah he's got a health bar right okay what's the white bar for me is that my health could be or it could be like armor I think you might have like some kind of stamina we I'll get to it in a bit but I'll tell you about the story shall I yeah do God he just not my oh my God wish I could see him yeah it's a good angle Mortal Kombat Special Forces is chronologically the first game in the mortal comat comat story line as its events take place even before Mortal Kombat mythology Subzero the secure the story of the game involves Kano freeing his gang the black dragon from a maximum security get some sucker get some sucker uh from a Maximum Security Prison US Army Major Jax Briggs seeking revenge for the slaughter of his special forces comrades at the hands of the black dragon undertakes a mission to stop them from retrieving an artifact of great power the eye of chishan the true power of the artifact is shown in the ending you want to know what it can do go on that it can open portals to other Realms when Jax uses the artifact to teleport himself and Kano back to Earth realm after defeating him so is this all Jack's fault yeah it could be could be did a combo XX triangle I'm just going to do this okay he's dead right it's a little bit easier now that I have one combo okay that's good to know just give him the old XX triangle twice and then I'll be dead oh they they can interrupt it much they seem to move a lot faster than JX does yeah well he does have big metal arms he does which I think that would slow me down a lot certainly is this where I meant to go oh the light is just uh it's ready for its closeup it is which so many ways to go yeah where where what is so many paths oh power room oh there's keys are there bloody Keys MH oh a toilet oh can I use the toilet is it stained that color or is it is it just meant to be got lots of poo in it lots of poo in it poo and we you got got to be around here somewhere babying it's funny because um I'm identifying certain sound effects that we used in um Gauntlet Legends which would also buy Midway really used Gauntlet Legends my goodness me love that game Lads are these just workers they got hard hats on yeah maybe I don't know how am I meant to kill them if they got helmet they got protection on yeah but then your fists have protection on as well oh God no they're strong I don't like it just uh just take the forlift Jesus if I could I would yeah no I'll punch it though not permitted is that a power room could be these guys running after me and then just do leg sweep sweep the leg no mercy you got this they're all they're all waiting their turn yeah it's high stakes isn't it it's high stakes is do you think given that they're all clearly plumbers or electricians that when you knock one of their friends down they just look down and go it's going to it's going to be two three weeks need to get the parts in yeah the same thing now the reason that it's like that in this game is because the floor is tiled in squares right the way they texture it it's just convenient it is convenient for them but um yeah it is the superior way to arrange a rug on a tille floor this game is um and I don't want to mince words here exactly like Metal Gear Solid the first one oh my God see I told you a lot of blood it's exactly like gear in many ways I think it might be better yeah I think this is better than Metal Gear Solid one it will it will in a minute start rolling the credits oh my God can I reach this over the top of the uh the of the action a hideio gom's game yes right can I get his gun please yes oh nice so you can just use the machine gun now oh I found out had a block oh good I can do a little spin look at you go can I go any faster not really oh it's first person it's just like Metal Gear Solid it is actually just like Metal Gear Solid can you get in that cardboard box do you think just like in Metal know by now a third person a third person view action adventure game there are third person view action adventure game I've never heard it described like that before there are five levels set on Earth in other realm with a boss battle at the end of each of them exploring the locations in search for keys the players solve puzzles find the codes to unlock the doors and blast hidden passages in walls Jax can Ascend this is from right direct from Wikipedia verbatim yeah Jax can Ascend to higher level platforms even as he cannot jump what Jax can Ascend to higher level platforms even as he cannot jump but he can push large blocks right large blocks that's good yeah wait until you see what else was written on Wikipedia uh on a later fact um just gibberish pure just gibberish so sometimes you come across these Wikipedia articles for not mainstream games and they are definitely written by a fan who either for whom English is not a first language or they're just illiterate um it's one of the wall there the camera just can see through the top of these bits of wall is he going to take a break briefly sort of not really much point in blocking is there cuz then you just get hit when you lower your guard yeah oh my God how many more keys are there fing loads who's putting all this in the bin all right then up to the fourth floor I suppose up we go I am quite impressed by the fact that it's not like peppering in tons of loading screens who shoo that is actually fairly impressive yeah yeah do you think it's doing a bit of loading when you're standing in the lift this guy is 100% shooting me through the wall by the way he did not have a line of sight can you block his gun with your fist that's a great I mean to say you have got metal hands so if you if it did let you block I wouldn't be that surprised yeah you should he should look at him yeah just like uh Wolverine Wolverine yeah how do I how do I get gun out right we got 31 gun now has Wolverine ever slow motion chopped a bullet in half oh you know that crazy glad he's done probably has in one of the movies um but I've not seen them all super super uppercut oh XX square triangle balls oh no help him in man I can't move their AI is uh is doing making the same decisions okay oh oh ow I've got no more bullets put the gun away what was the Super uppercut XX Square Tri XXX square triangle you sure it's not coming up with a combo thing when I'm doing it oh just just got wiped out oh yeah XXX square triangle why is that not showing up then when I start doing it okay now it is who combo hits five he's dead he is look yeah there it is a large Medical Park med pack bullets no Detonator a Detonator well what on Earth is that for what are you going to donon it I don't know I've been on every floor now oh no it's blow up that crumbly wall with it maybe Detonator explodes after okay after 3 seconds I thought that said ass SEC as seconds um yeah I would oh um oh no it's it's probably fine hopefully you didn't need that to uh I have a few okay good so should I go to the crumbly wall you think that's probably the safest bet possibly yeah given that we now have no idea what to do um and you've searched all floors for keys to doors that uh we can't get through that next a the real there's the lift going say where's the lift now was it on this floor is it two floors down I think balls hang on I need to pressed X to come on jez I think it might be floor two oh okay to the right you sure it was this one no all the way down to the left I think it might have been the the other it was a brown floor wasn't it it was one of those beige boys yeah so we need to unveil a hidden wall well maybe I don't know it's possible yeah we love them um Special Forces endured endured a difficult development due to series co-creator John Tobias and other staff members leaving Midway before the game was completed the departure of Tobias led to a significant trimming of content including the removal of Sonia blade as a playable character oh no I've studied all your moves yeah study this although Special Forces was only released on the PlayStation it was also supposed to be released both on Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast damn they both missed out yeah is it this floor even yeah there is there there it is no that was this looks like it should work but I sort of feel like it's not going to work at all I want to watch it oh it worked wind wind wind oh my God I wonder what would have happened if you um soft it yeah security key card okay all right progress can you go down the way as well into this hell glowing yeah what's that it's a nothing room oh okay oh Christ which floor do we need to go to now uh it might still be this one I don't think I was looking when you found the secure the key card door I just know that there's a fire exit that is locked yes that's on a different one I think aha hey look you that's great he is yeting boys I must say this is this is less bad than I expected it to be going off its reputation it's very Bland yeah it's um but it's better than metal go solid though yeah it is it's not but I I thought oh I'm being killed in the doorway I thought it'd be kind of glitchy and uh that there'd be like loads and loads of enemies coming at you all the time or oh bead there are now you know I I thought it'd be worse than must say the player has a limited energy Reserve whenever Jax performs one of his special techniques he spends energy that can be replenished by performing certain combos oh so I think that's what your white bar is I'm almost exclusively doing combos mhm what did I just pick up what was the key did I pick up a key what did I pick up I don't know I pressed a button on a wall and it gave me a checkpoint so maybe something's unlocked somewhere okay good don't know we'll just have to go between all the floors I supp search them all where is the door we have opened what have we opened of course you know who'll know the answer to that oh I would I do I shall yeah hey rules boss which door have I opened how did you get this number that wasn't relevant to the question all helpful that's not a helpful respon I don't think he understood or heard really well I'll give you another fact then if if you want to sort of make the journey go by oh God yes right this is it this is the bad sentence although there are no fatality systems the combo system allows finishing off the opponent with the final blow in case the enemy's health line is exhausted by this moment What on earth does that mean I don't know I'll translate it to what I think it's meant to say okay the combo system allows you to finish off the opponent with a final with a final blow in cases where the enemy's health line has been exhausted by by that time I'm still confused it's still you know I was doing it only with synonyms I would have Rewritten that sentence entirely if I had the choice if it if you were making the Wikipedia article for this game yeah maybe I should go check out in the use of explo explosives beware of Airborne Dynamite those who play with fire will get burned okay so don't go close to him it's actually not helpful at all not really helpful no I'm I don't have any ammo for the machine oh I do no zero zero were you supposed to just keep your I don't know gun ammo um series co-creator John Tobias intended to work on a series of platforming games to expand the Mortal Kombat universe including titles centered around Baraka and Liu Kang only the latter was actually released by Midway 2005's Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks despite having sat on the drawing board for many years I've got him so did you just have to get in there he seemed to be hurt by the chain reaction of it he's going to kill me I can't open My Bloody menu it was on the drawing board for many years just yeah the the lukang game um or no sorry the one that wasn't made the Baraka game yes sat on the drawing board for a long time but never never came to FL is kids love Baraka they do Maracas there we go come here you oh you little bugger a uh Tobias said about the final version of this game you know I never really played it I saw it at E3 and I maybe played it for like 5 minutes and never really played it after that so I'm not really familiar with how it ended up Ed Boon later Rec called I didn't work on Special Forces the gamer project were riddled with all kinds of problems I could write a book on that should yeah I'd read it you'd read it I'm out of detonators right so I don't know how I'm going to stop him from doing that now so that's how I used all my health oh no so that's how you broke his uh his thing last time is by using a Detonator oh I mean come on he just he just does that can you get in there what when he's doing a sweeping um I can try thing maybe come on there when he's doing that can you can you dodge it yeah oh okay some point the game's going to decide no back to bomb phase now and he's just going to Flame throw you in the face yeah he's going to kill me again yeah go I just oh okay well didn't Bank on that no I didn't think that was going to happen well let's do some reviews shall we it's yeah that's why it's not reviewed very well I guess what's the point in checkpoints then what do you think the average review score for this game was based on seven professional reviews seven whole reviews yeah it's a Mortal Kombat game only seven people I know that's what I thought I thought it'd be way more um oh God I'm fighting both you have to learn your combos again yeah I do they're blocking every I just do this um 60% 28% oh my God which seems a bit harsh it's still very bad I get it the highest score came from PSN Nation who said let Special Forces be the first and last MK game of the new decade SL Century SL Millennium so we can all start our gaming memories fresh of silly Concepts like Babality and rot memorization of preset combos rot memorization rot memor ra than they've put R isn't R spelled Ro t e yeah maybe it's maybe they're trying to do a pun maybe maybe you had to be there in the year 2000 yeah maybe back then everyone was saying rocked memorization instead of rot so what did they give it sounds like they didn't want any more Mortal Kombat games at all ever yeah they were done yeah hadn't even been around a decade at that point uh they and this is the highest one yeah uh I'm going to say they give it 40 56% okay the lowest score comes from daily radar who said this game needs better planning design and execution better luck next time mhm uh 10% oh oh no not again oh dear no it's a zero imagine giving a 0% for this game needs better planning design and execution that's a I mean this game is crap but it's not it's not 0% we played worse than mhm so the uh we we are sick when we hear a 0% because this game is not a block of wood it is actually a video game menu in it functions so it's not a zero um so the lowest nonzero score comes from Gamespot who said in a word MK Special Forces is ugly which is more than one word but yes it is actually um and that's the lowest so that's 10% 21% 21% so that zero dragged it down a fair bit I found a machine gun straight away nice one down here could keep it for the boss which you w doing but I mean if you if you were playing the game again that's what I would do yeah um well there you go thanks everyone hope you enjoyed this and uh we'll
