shining in and around us we welcome you as you join us in giving him all the glory and honor on his day we are gathered here today not because we have seen fit or choose christ but because he has looked upon us and called us to be his own in return we dedicate our lives to his service we are called to be people of faith in the midst of the world in doing so we mix our worship and our work our faith and our lives we gather here as people who live in the world and yet we gather as people who have been called to see the world from a different viewpoint and live in it with a different purpose our purpose is visible in the praises that we are gathered here to give our lord today it's time to take off your shoes step out of your comfort zone and trust that you will merge your purpose with his how shall we worship our god constantly where do we worship our god everywhere we have heard what the lord requires of us we must walk the walk and step out in faith jesus will guide our steps along the way teaching us to walk humbly to love boldly and to serve god with our whole body soul mind and strength let us pray for the humility and courage to follow where the spirit leads in this time today as we worship together may god open our hearts minds and eyes to his will for our lives and we will continually give him all the praise honor and glory our alpha and omega amen i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord we have people in the house we are here to praise the lion of judah amen amen amen come on y'all you're not praising me you're praising the lion of judah the one that's allowing us to see one another it could be another story but we give him prayers this morning amen amen we invite you to stand if you can to give him praise [Applause] know i'm just so so so so so so overwhelmed to be in the presence of a god that's so capable see i know that my assurance is not in my ability because i will fail i have i have the power through him yeah but i think god forgot that we can have blessed insurance in we don't have to worry about what's going on in the news what we see what we're feeling we don't have to worry about it like other people because we have blessed insurance and a capable god amen amen and for that we just give him glory and honor this morning because he is so worthy so we invite you to sing the hymn of the morning praise him praise him god is my rock from the rising of the sun we know this song these are the songs that we need to implant in our spirits during this time amen [Music] come hmm [Applause] come on [Applause] he's [Applause] come on jesus [Applause] [Music] come on [Applause] [Applause] and he's a strong deliverer oh come on and give him grace [Applause] [Music] is come on and give him he's so worthy [Music] [Applause] [Music] this morning he is so worthy so worthy [Music] [Music] good morning and happy sabbath boys and girls good morning and happy sabbath to the rest of our fondren family for today's children's story i want to start with a quick question my question is do you know the difference between an award or a prize and a gift just think about it for a second what's the difference well first of all you might say well they look different right this is a trophy this is a gift bag with some good things inside maybe you're also thinking well i get rewards or prizes when i do something and that is exactly right a prize or an award is given to us when we do something this is an old trophy that my son got from playing soccer as you can tell from the top of the trophy this summer we've watched the olympics where we saw people work so hard in order to get gold or silver or bronze metal maybe in your school you've seen like spelling bees or science fairs where people you know put forth their best work so that they can get a first place ribbon there's all kinds of reasons that people win awards or win prizes but in order to get an award in order to get a prize you have to do something right all those people at the olympics who we saw doing track and field or gymnastics or swimming or skateboarding they practiced for years in order to do it even people in spelling bees they practice spelling they practice learning the root words and all kinds of cool things in order to spell words correctly every time but in order to get a prize in order to get an award you have to do a lot of work on the other hand in order to get a gift you don't really have to do much right um maybe it's your birthday so the only thing you did was to be born on a certain day maybe it's a gift for christmas or a gift just because because people think you're cool or they love you and they say oh we want to give this to them the gift takes work on behalf of the giver though because in order to give a gift you have to know a lot of things about the person so that you can get something they'll really enjoy you have to spend money so you lose some of your own money in order to to make them happy maybe you even have to you know deliver it to their house so you're like man now i gotta you know ask my mom to take me over or i have to you know put forth some kind of effort to get the gift to their house it takes a lot of work from the giver the bible says in romans chapter 6 verse 23 it says for the wages of sin is death but the free gift of god is eternal life in christ jesus our lord so today we want to talk a little bit about the gift that god gives us so god offers us his grace we've been talking about that in sabbath school this week and last week as well that god has given us the gift of grace and the gift of grace it means that we didn't earn it we didn't do anything to get it really but also the gift of grace is like getting a gift that has a lot of other gifts inside of it right has that ever happened to you because that's kind of cool when you get one gift and then as you open it you're like oh wow there's something else like maybe you got a playstation but then when you opened it you're like oh i got a cool game too or i got you know extra um controllers or cool gaming headset so you get other things that go along with that gift that's kind of how god's grace is it's a gift that contains a whole bunch of other gifts so in this bag we'll pretend this is god's grace it has other gifts one is like living forever so we know that god wants us to live forever and ever in heaven with him and that we can receive because of his grace it also says there will be no more sadness that's grace he forgives us he offers us the gift of forgiveness so that when we do wrong we can go to him love the gift of love um god gives us the gift of peace one day we know that there will be no more covet there will be no more hurricanes we'll get to experience happiness all of these things are a result of the gift of god's grace sometimes though we like to treat it as though it's really a prize it's really an award it's something that we have to work for and we say you know what if i read the bible long enough i'll go to heaven or if i um make sure to pray you know five times a day or seven times a day then i'll go to heaven because i've worked hard enough but that's not really how it works god's gift of grace is just a gift it is in fact a gift the only thing we have to do is to accept it to take it and then once we take it we'll show him just how grateful we are for having it so that's the lesson i want you all to learn today that god has offered us the gift of grace and all you have to do is to accept it there's nothing else you can do to earn it all right that's the end of our children's story for today i pray that you all have a wonderful rest of your day and the rest of the week and that you will have a [Applause] standing [Applause] the time has come for us to have a conversation with god [Music] and as we come to [Music] enter ourselves into his presence i ask that you might be in the mindset of prayer let us pray father as we've come at this point of the program we come acknowledging oh god that you are a mighty god a gracious god a god who seeks out after us when we don't think we're worth saving how marvelous you are oh god and because of that we are increasingly aware of our sinfulness our inability to save ourselves our unworthiness oh how thankful we are that you are so gracious that you would love us when we are unlovable we come together as a congregational god to acknowledge that we have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god and i come o god to acknowledge that i have sinned and fallen short of your glory because we would not want anything to keep us from being heard this morning we recognize that inside this room are celestial beings you have come down to hear us oh god and so we do not come with faint heart but know that you can read the thoughts of our minds and you know what's in our hearts as well so we ask loving lord as we are preparing to worship that you would come into every person's being so that the words that would be heard the songs that would be song the word of god that would be read would have a receptive spirit receiving it thank you for your mercies and thank you for your grace we continue on this planet to deal with a pandemic for over a year and lord with vaccinations and all the promises of what we thought was going to be a reprieve it still rages on and our lord we may be vaccinated our hearts may be still weary from the all of it and so we need oh god your holy presence to reassure us oh god that you didn't bring us this far to leave us we know oh god that there are times when our young people feel distressed and disoriented because it is so disruptive the way that they move about and live oh god as only you can enter the hearts of our young people that they might come and know a presence that allows them to navigate what life on planet earth in 22 uh 2021 is all about then we o god who are trying to hold make ends meet hold our families together oh god may we realize that we are not alone in our struggles may we continually turn our eyes towards you so that we can be in your will we pray oh god for the leadership of our conference we're so glad to have our pastor and president to be with us today and we pray that you might continue to put words on his lips that you have placed in his heart and that our ears can receive so that we all might be more like you we pray oh god for the leadership of our union in our division and general conference these are times unlike before and we realize oh god that these are times before the end of time and so we need oh god a clear vision of prophecy so that the events of the days are in put in proper perspective and then lord for those who rule the land here in texas uh things are rather strange sometimes and yet lord we realize that our governor is not our god and though he might want to do certain things and certain laws might be enacted god you still are on the throne so may we not be distressed by all the political activity that takes place in this state may we keep our eyes upon you and then lord up there in washington dc we believe there is a friend but lord we know also there's opposition and so again oh god we have to realize that we can only put our trust in you help us lord to live in such a manner that others see christ in us that we we might be able to point and direct him to our own living personal god that we might be able to share the experience that he has given us oh god people are wanting to know is there a real god does he care why has he allowed all the things that we are experiencing today may we be able to point them to your word and re and recognize that even in these times there is rest for our souls now we ask that you might be with us through this service may everything be done honor you o god and may also be a witness o god to what you are and who you have been to us keep us in jesus name amen do you mean pastor byrd well i need to let you know through the end of the year i will be here and i will be our pastor minimally through the end of the year come on say amen so that means in addition to the responsibilities of the president of the conference i'm gonna be right here at fondren and so we are looking for you is that all right everybody i said we are looking for you is that all right everybody not just those in the building but those who are watching online come on say amen and so we welcome our online audience as well as our in-person audience to worship here at the fondren church where i'm told and i believe the sun s-o-n always shines and so we're grateful to be here today to our visiting friends by virtual internet live stream welcome to the visiting friends who are in person in the sanctuary welcome and we trust that god will bless you and i know you've been welcomed before but as the pastor i've got to work with the saints to the church today amen a couple of housekeeping notes we want you to know we are excited because we are getting ready for revival oh i like that church all right y'all are with me today i said we are getting ready for revival on october the 23rd when did i say everybody come on what did i say everybody october the 23rd we will begin revival citywide revival southwest region conference breath of life adventist world radio we will begin revival here in the city of houston i am excited that we will all come together our english-speaking churches at the world harvest outreach church our sister church and beginning at 7 00 pm on october 23rd we will begin revival but not only our english speaking our spanish speaking in fact our spanish speaking with dr eddie canales being our speaker with adventist world radio we will begin spanish-speaking revival right here at the fondren church amen so that means english we will be at the world harvest outreach church and our spanish brothers and sisters will be right here at the fondren church now this evening at six o'clock what time did i say everybody come on talk to me what time did i say everybody six o'clock even those who are watching six o'clock today we will have special training and preparation for our local church leaders right here at the fondren church that's all of our churches all of our church leaders converging right here at fondren as we have critical training it's more than just saying that we're going to have revival we've got to be trained on what we are to do are you hearing what i'm saying so all the ushers all the communications team hospitality children's ministry treasury deacons deaconesses elders everybody personal ministries community services we all want to be here at six o'clock today so that we can engage in our training and informational meeting all of our pastors from our area will be here our conference officers will be here so you know i'm yes the president and the pastor but we're excited that our executive secretary pastor jason north will be here our treasurer of our conference brother phillip palmer elder philip farmer will be here in fact he's here today elder palmer won't you stand let the people see you he's here give him a warm foundry greeting everybody amen he is already here our children's ministries director pastor tyrone douglas he too will be here as we all come together to ready ourselves for our upcoming revival now it's one thing for us to plan and make sure everything's together but we got to be in attendance and surely if we can come to church we can come to revival i wish i had a witness in this place now we're going to be socially distant that's one of the reasons we are at the world harvest outreach church with a sitting capacity of over 3 000 we will be able to properly socially distance is that all right everybody but in addition to that we will mask up all right we will mess up so we will be in that large venue but we will socially distance and we will mask up we are living in a new normal it's a new normal but the gospel still must go out come on say amen and so we're living in a new normal and we're going to try some new and different things but we still must share the gospel we're excited that in addition to the in-person ministry of our upcoming revival we are partnering with message magazine we are partnering with message magazine and message magazine they will be doing the pre-work in digital form for us so digital bible studies digital prayer digital engagement sister carmela monk crawford and her team they will be partnering with us to lead out in that somebody ought to say amen nah i don't know if we understand what's going on i i want to get a little closer but you know the refuse will come out and i'm supposed to say distance but i don't know if we understand what god is doing do we see what god is doing god is bringing together the conference breath of life adventist world radio and message magazine to houston texas now somebody ought to be happy about that and in a creative way we are going to seek to share the gospel message of jesus christ now we're excited because the message magazine representatives are here and they will be here tonight to share in training form what we're going to do with digital ministry and so we want to encourage all of our communications and media persons from all of our churches fondren as well as our other churches because i know you're watching five in our other churches you also need to be here at six because our message personnel they will lead out in special digital training in fact i saw one representative he's you know he's houstonian he's just in another area right now in huntsville but he's histonian i was in atlanta he was there in huntsville he was there now i'm in texas it seems like he's coming back but i saw our own brother george cartwright i see you in the back he is with the message team i'm looking for sister carmela crawford is she here stand up our editor for message magazine give her a round of applause everybody she is here and we are grateful that she is here and on time amen um we had a meeting this week in preparation for today and so we're grateful that our conference officers along with our message magazine administrator and team members will be here so six o'clock what time did i say everybody now tomorrow we will have church board meeting at 10 a.m via zoom so all board members i'm looking for you to be on our zoom tomorrow at 10 a.m but also at 10 a.m we're gonna ask all of our media and communication directors from not just fondren but all of our churches to be back here at the church because sister crawford and her team will be here and we will have training session two with them on tomorrow so we'll have board meeting at 10 via zoom yours truly will be on that but sister crawford and her team will provide training in addition to not to tonight tomorrow at 10 a.m so make sure you govern yourselves accordingly and that you are in place now next sabbath september the 25th when did i say everybody september what everybody 25th our sister church the world harvest outreach church at 6 00 pm because you know it's not going to conflict with what we're doing here at fondren but at 6 00 p.m next sabbath afternoon there will be a special young adult ministry initiative they'd like to invite us to i believe our media team has the flyer and the special guest artist will be zaccardi cortez and this is an initiative for our young adults in the houston area so we want to invite our young adults here at our church as well as all of our churches across the houston area to be a part of this special initiative next sabbath afternoon at 6 00 pm throughout the week we'll tell you more about it thank you so very much finally i'm excited in the revival uh you're truly going to preach the word of god each night we're gonna have special musical guests now the first night our special musical guest will be houston's own kurt carr and the kurt carr singers amen all right and then on the sunday night the special musical guest will be kiera sheard of the legendary clark sisters family come on saying that oh but we're going to top it off with our own on saturday night october the 30th i'm excited that my friend my big brother fellow colleague in ministry pastor whitley phipps is gonna bless us on october 30th but there's a blessing in coming to church there's a blessing i said in coming to church [Music] even when you have to register to come to church there's a blessing in coming to church today you're going to receive a blessing i pray through the word of god as god and i have been talking all week but before we preach the word of god we have another man of god and that of pastor wentley phipps who is in the building today and he's gonna bless us with his powerful musical ministry now you ought to be excited about that everybody as he is coming i would like to invite pleased when i walked in my office today at the church and i saw sitting in a chair someone who would not turn his face to me because he was trying to get me to guess who it was and then when he he's an awesome guy you can bring it up you know i just want to say i am so excited for you here in this conference that you have been blessed to have the leadership of pastor carlton byrd somebody my mic close amen praise god uh the lord gave me a word just a couple of days ago three four three or four o'clock in the morning and i want to share it with you pastor byrd because it was for me but i believe it is for you as well and for anyone who's listening god said see when i was 16 years old god spoke to me and said my son if you can just be faithful to the best of your ability i'm going to take your life down an unusual path you're going to sing to the masses i want you to prepare to speak truth to people of influence and power i was 16 years old didn't understand what it all meant i'm here i actually was sneaking into houston i have a very important meeting where the president of a very influential country who has also flown in for this private meeting and we're meeting here in houston and i said to my friend pastor eric kelly i i said i said where you all have having church today he said at fondren i said great he said and pastor byrd is preaching i said well that's where i got to be [Music] and but here's what god gave me my life has gone down an unusual path the experiences that i've had i've never had a manager an agent a publicist but god has done amazing stuff but here's what god said god said to me remember to embrace the unusual path of destiny god has had you travel or did you get that pastor bird remember to embrace fully the unusual path of destiny god has had you travel you don't you don't worry you don't worry about anybody else's life and their travel and their journey and their path i wouldn't want to be you and you should not want to be me you just want to travel the path lord jesus now fondren is where the sun shines they tell me so i just chose a song i'm going to take you back a song i wrote years ago i actually did it as a duet with a lady by the name of patti labelle she couldn't be here today so i i'm going to do it by myself okay we'll listen to the message and i hope you're blessed praise god hallelujah thank you jesus thank you we're going to chapter one first samuel chapter one and we're going to begin reading verse number one first samuel chapter one verse number one we're going to begin reading the word of god first samuel chapter one verse number one i'm going to read a good number of verses here today so let's just be prepared to receive the word of god first samuel chapter one i'm going to begin reading from the king james version of the bible the word of god says now there was a certain man of ramatham zopham of mount ephraim and his name was elkanah the son of jeroham the son of elihu the son of tohu the son of zeus and ephrathite and he had two wives the name of the one was hannah and the other name of the other was peninnah and pena had no children had children but hannah had no children and this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice into the lord of hosts and shiloh and the two sons of eli hofney and phineas the priests of the lord were there and when the time was that elkanah offered he gave to penang his wife and to all her sons and her daughters portions but into hannah he gave a worthy portion for he loved hannah but the lord had shut up her womb and her adversary also provoked her sore for to make her friend because the lord had shut up her womb and as he did so year by year when she went up to the house of the lord so she provoked her therefore she wept and did not eat then said elk and i her husband her hannah why we best thou and why edith thou not and why is thy heart grief am not i better to thee than ten sons so hannah rosa after they had eaten shiloh and after they had drunk now eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post to the temple of the lord and she was in bitterness of soul praying unto the lord and the bible says she wept sore she bowed about and said o lord of hosts if thou will indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid and remember me and not forget thine handmaid but will give unto thine hand made a man child then i will give him unto the lord all the days of his life and there shall no razor come upon his head came the past so she continued praying before the lord that eli marked her mouth now how does she spake in her heart her own only her lips moved but her voice was not heard therefore eli thought she had been drunken eli said to her how long will thou be drunken put away thy wine from being hannah answered and said no my lord i'm a woman of a sorrowful spirit i have drunk neither wine nor strong drink but have poured out my soul before the lord count not thine handmade for daughter of belial for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have i spoken hitherto then eli answered and said go in peace and the lord of israel grant me thy petition that thou has asked of him she said let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight so the woman went her way and did eat and her countenance was no more sad they rose up in the morning early and worshipped before the lord in return and came to their house to rhema and elk and i knew hannah his wife and the lord remember her verse 20 wherefore it came to pass when the time was come about after hannah had conceived that she'd bear a son and called his name samuel saying because i have asked him of the lord father god today speak for your servants here speak in this sanctuary and speak even through the internet and television airwaves today it's my hope my prayer my desire god that men women boys and girls will be touched by the power of your holy ghost through the message today less of me and more of you i pray god forgive me of my sins and when the appeal time comes lord do what you do send your spirit in copious fashion and we be careful today to give you praise honor and glory in the name of jesus let everyone say amen amen you may be seated know god's purpose for your life know god's purpose for your life let me begin by saying know who you are and know whose you are you are who god called you to be you're not john you're not jane you're not paul you're not tim you're not carlton you're not ricardo you're not pastor whitley you are who you are you're not called to be anybody else but you're called to be what god has called you to be you're special the bible says you were fearfully and wonderfully made you're a king's kid a child of the most high god your father is ceo of the universe he is the king of kings and the lord of lords and besides him there is none other he's god and in case you didn't know let me remind you you belong to him he created you and today you are not in accident he has a plan for you and he has a purpose for your life in fact the two most important days of your life were the day you were born and when you found out why and even though god has a purpose for all of our lives there are many people who wonder throughout their lives not knowing their purpose and i'm not just talking about young people either we've got young people and older people who don't know their purpose we've got some people who are 20 and we've got some folk who are 50 who still don't know their purpose yes they've achieved a measure of success and yes they've experienced some accomplishments got an education bought a nice house bought a nice car have a nice job but they still ask themselves the question have i done the thing that god created me to do but in the name of jesus i declare to somebody today that god has a plan and everything happens according to his sovereign plan his plan was in place before the foundation of the world his plan was in place before your mom and daddy got together you might have just thought your parents just happened to stumble upon one another but god orchestrated when they would see each other where they would see each other and how they would see each other it's not by hampton stance today that you're here or watching today it's all according to god's purpose and his plan let me tell somebody there's no devil in hell that can stop god's plan and purpose for your life if you don't believe me a red sea couldn't stop gods some lions in the lion's den couldn't stop god a fiery furnace couldn't stop god no wedding punch at a new testament wedding could stop god no food on a new testament countryside can stop god god is sovereign which means god will do what he wants what he wants where he wants and how he wants and he doesn't have to ask you or me for permission to do as he wants he's god god all by himself and he doesn't need help from anybody else god has a purpose for your life god has a plan for your life let me tell you i've learned over the 27 years that i've been in pastoral ministry that too many people aspire to what they see up front so we have people operating outside of god's purpose because they want to do what they want what they see rather than what god sees everyone wants to do something that is important because they believe that if they do something that's important that will make them important but i'm here to let somebody know all that glitters is not goals what's on the outside may not be what's on the inside are you hearing what i'm saying today what you see may not be what is what you may see as a financially prosperous person may be a robb peter to pay paul living month to month waiting on the 15th and the 30th of every month just like everybody else burdened with that individual who's praying for a financial breakthrough i've learned you can have more titles than space to put them more degrees than a thermometer more letters behind your name than the alphabet but if it's not what god has for you i wish i had a witness in this place you will be nothing but sounding brass and tinkling symbol speaking of operating outside of god's purpose for your life have you ever worked on a jigsaw puzzle and there was a puzzle piece that you were trying to cram in that puzzle in that place that didn't fit because you were tired of looking for the right spot on that puzzle somebody know what i'm talking about and because the puzzle was getting on your nerves you said enough is enough and so you took your fist and you took your fist and you began to beat and hammer those pieces into the rest of the way of that puzzle anybody know what i'm talking about and it may have been hammered in but the pieces would still pop up out of that puzzle because the puzzle piece was not designed to fit that spot that's what has happened to somebody in their life they popped out of something that they were never supposed to be in in the first place somebody pushed them into something that they were never meant to be in but know who you are know who god created you to be and know god's purpose for your life and it's from this text today that we can learn some things about purpose now we all know the story of sister hannah and quickly now in the text we've got two women one named hannah and one named pinana and they're married to one man and you know that's trouble now don't get it twisted polygamy was practiced in biblical times but polygamy is not supposed to be practiced in today's times are you hearing what i'm saying the bible says be the husband of one wife and one means one are you hearing what i'm saying when god created eve god took one rib out of adam's side which means you can't go around with a slab i wish i had a church in this place one means one one rib are you hearing what i'm saying to everybody but elkanah has two ribs hannah and pinana and there's a problem between the two because you can't have two cooks in the kitchen but it's not the existence of peninnah that's bothering hannah but it's rather the blessings of pinana that are bothering hannah because pinana was blessing elkanah with children and hannah wasn't and hannah didn't have that blessing because the bible says that god shut up her womb not the devil somebody got it not a doctor not a nurse not a midwife not a medical defect not a birth defect but the lord the bible says shut up her womb god in his divine purpose has created a restriction on hannah's life this is not the devil's doing this is the lord's doing the lord has shut up her womb so what do you do when the one you're praying to has created the challenge in the first place but not only that elkanah hannah's husband can't understand why she's so depressed he can't understand why she's so unhappy i mean the bible says he's a wealthy man he's given her everything she has once of nothing she has a nice house she has nice furniture she has a nice donkey to ride she has nice sandals to wear she has nice clothes but what elkanah doesn't know is that purpose cannot be bought somebody knows that purpose will make you leave a job that pays more and take a job that pays less y'all don't hear what i'm saying some things can't be books some things are better than money and it's in the narrative this narrative of hannah's life that we can learn a couple of lessons about purpose number one i've learned from this text lesson number one purpose doesn't start with fulfillment purpose starts with pain not with money not with a great job not with a fine wife or a wonderful husband but purpose starts with pain the lord shut up her womb to make sure she hurt bad enough to be used by him god says i'm going to make sure you're broken in all the right places god says i'm going to make sure you're so uncomfortable that you seek my face i'm going to create enough tension in your life god says that you will look up from whence your help cometh that there's no battle no blessing no pain no gain no valley no victory to everybody in this place particularly young people who are listening be careful of wishing you were something or somebody else because i've never known in my life pastor vip spoke of it just briefly in the way god has navigated his life i've never known anybody who was unbelievably powerful who was not equally painful people want your power but they never ask you for your pain and if you're not willing to carry my cross you can't wear my crown because my crown is created by the intensity of my cross purpose begins with pain you crawl before you walk you make an f before you make an a you may lose an election before you win an election you may break up with him before you meet mr rights purpose begins with pain and when you know your purpose i'm a witness that it will make you a target when you know god's purpose for your life it will make you a marked man or a marked woman because somebody will be mad at your purpose that is not their purpose you see i've learned you're my church now because i speak to you as my church family i'm not just a guest speaker anymore i've learned in my life that the greatest moments of joy in your life can be the greatest moments of envy and jealousy in somebody else's life that dogs barked at moving cars not parked cars as the old saying goes the brighter the light is the more you attract bugs because whenever you're doing something for the lord and fulfilling god's purpose there will always be an element that envies what you have and will plot against you at every turn undermining your efforts and reputation because people shoot at the deer they see and not the one in the bushes but i've learned that this element is a part of the process just keep your eyes on jesus and know your purpose i'd rather be blessed of god than blessed of people which leads me to the second lesson i've learned from the text sometimes god will allow people in your life to provoke you so you might learn to depend on him are you hearing what i'm saying everybody all right think about it when god allows peninnah in the house and opens up her womb he allows in his permissive will for pinana to have baby after baby after baby after baby and this provokes hannah this gets on hannah's nerves because if the truth be told there's nothing that gets on your nerves more than seeing somebody else do what you've always wanted to do now in this day and age of social media where everyone's lives are on display comparison can make you crazy comparison will make you depressed and dissatisfied with your own life because the less fulfilled you are with your own life the more likely you are to become distracted and discontented by somebody else's life let's tell the truth shame the devil keep it real it gets on your nerves if we keeping it real take off the mask keep it real it gets on your nerves when you see other people stepping into what you were created to do because you say what's wrong with me hannah says i'm a woman just like she is we've been with the same man so it can't be him it must be me so now hannah has this woman in her house who taunts her teases her provokes her and says i can have it but you can't now you can deal with pinana when pena is out of sight and out of mind but how do you handle peninnah when she's sitting up in your house how do you handle pinana when she's working in the same office that you're in how do you handle peninnah when she's sitting down the same pew as you are people who have what you want and if we're real today it gets on your nerves when you see other people blessed and you're not they're married and you're still single they have the five bedroom house but you've got the one bedroom apartment they have the 2021 mercedes benz but you're driving the 1990 volkswagen bug with no air no radio and no power anything [Applause] they got the job and you didn't in my line of work they got the church and you didn't they got the speaking appointment and you didn't they made the a and you didn't and i've learned that the lord will use the penance in your life to provoke you but i've learned that sometimes god blesses people around you to make you pray that god blesses people around you to make you fast sometimes god will put someone in your life to provoke you because he's trying to save you i need you to understand this today because for somebody right now you're mad at god you're bitter you're angry because you ask why does it seem like everyone else's program is working but mine why is everybody else's career taking off but mine why is everybody else getting the blessing and i'm not but maybe just maybe god is trying to get you up to a point a total dependence upon him where your money can't buy you out your degree can't think you out your charisma can't turn you out your family can't bail you out so when you do come out you know it wasn't your family you know it wasn't your boss you know it wasn't your finances you know it wasn't your friends but you know it was nobody but jesus who brought you out sometimes god will make you fall straight on your back so all you can do is look up you'll say i will lift up mine eyes into the hills from whence cometh my help my help comes from the lord sometimes god will allow people to provoke you so you will learn to depend on him third thing i learned from the text when you learn and want one again god's purpose for your life i've learned that sometimes god will hold you back so he can shoot you forward you see to get in your purpose it's not gonna come easy you gotta fight for it and sometimes god will hold you back hold you brought to propel you into your destiny are you hearing what i'm saying somebody's not understanding so let me illustrate when i was growing up as a kid all right when i was growing up as a kid we weren't able to go to the car wash and get our car washed from a car washing place like we do today somebody knows what i'm talking about i have an older sister and i have a twin brother and so the three of us my brother my sister and i we were the car wash we were the bird car wash and there was no pain there was no remuneration there were no tips somebody knows what i'm talking about we we were the bird car wash i tell my daughters today young people have a good today you don't wash your car you go to the car wash and have your car washed but it wasn't like that back in the day back in the day you washed your own car do i have a witness in this place but i learned something at the bird car wash i learned that if you want a water hose to shoot further you have to squeeze the hose because the more you squeeze that hose the further that water is going to shoot y'all don't hear what i'm saying let me try it this way if you have a bow and arrow the more you pull back that bow the further that arrow is going to shoot and sometimes when god wants to shoot you forward sometimes he will hold you back and sometimes he will hold you back and see you see people get mad when they don't get the promotion people get mad when they get the demotion in my profession as you all know people get mad if they get moved to the smaller church but maybe just maybe when god pulls you back god is trying to shoot you further because sometimes our setbacks are just set ups for comebacks maybe your church is gonna double the size of the church you had before i tell pastors and still and so instead of going from two to three god's plan is for you to go back from two to one and then shoot you from one to four y'all don't hear what i'm saying baby you're supposed to go from being the assistant director to the office manager and skip the associate director position and become the director straight from the office manager position because god's math is not our math god's ways are not our ways god will hold you back so god can shoot you forward some of us are on the same job because if we had a better job with more money and more benefits we wouldn't be able to handle it some of us are still in houston because if we were somewhere else we couldn't handle it maybe god has shut up your womb because if your wound were open you wouldn't be able to handle it you'd walk around with your head so big your nose so high up in the air that if it rained you drown your chest so stuck out that you wouldn't be able to get through the door are you hearing what i'm saying so sometimes god will make you wait 25 years like he did abraham for the fulfilling of the divine covenant so you will learn to fully surrender to him sometimes god will make you work seven years and another seven years like he did jacob so you were fully surrendered to him sometimes god will leave you in the wilderness for 40 years like he did the children of israel so you will learn how to depend on him god will leave you in a city god will leave you on a job god will leave you at a church he will hold you back so in your own time at the right time he'll shoot you forward one last point number four if you want to get into your purpose if you want to know who you are you got to seek the lord in the narrative hannah stops debating with elkanah hannah stops letting peninnah get under her from under her skin she gets up and she says to her husband elkano what i need you don't have what i want you can't provide what it takes you can't afford i'm going to the temple i'm going to the church i'm going to seek the lord forgetting those things which are behind me i'm reaching to those things which are before me hannah goes to the temple she walks into that nice clean calm quiet sedate service with one thing on her mind she says i'm seeking the lord and i'm a witness that sometimes when you're seeking the lord you don't care how you look you don't care how you act you don't care what people think about you but you're just seeking the lord does anybody know what i'm talking about you come to the altar and you say i don't care what anyone thinks i just need my blessing hannah comes down to the altar she steps past the priests and the elders because to stepping your purpose sometimes you got to step by some people eli thinks she's drunk she don't care said brother eli i'm not drunk but it's my time it's my moment to be blessed i don't have time for mess i don't have time for confusion i don't have time to major in minors i don't have time to sweat the small stuff i don't have time for the paralysis of analysis i don't have time to be petty i don't have time to be jealous i don't have time to worry about who doesn't like me i don't have the time to worry about what he says that she says and what they say i don't have time to worry about what other people think about me i don't have time to worry about how cute your dress is or nice your suit is who cares who has the biggest house in the church i'm running out of time she says things that i used to worry about when i was 18. i don't worry about them anymore she says i used to chase down rumors but i don't chase anything down anymore believe what you want to believe i don't care i don't have time i need my miracle now i need my breakthrough now i've been tied up i've been shut up i've been held down but it's my time to step into my purpose you can't block me you can't stop me what god has for me it is for me i know who i am i'm a king's kid i'm the head not the tail i'm above not beneath i'm the lender not the ball and i've come to get my inheritance religion doesn't hold her back ritual doesn't hold her back tradition doesn't hold her back but she's stepping into her purpose it's her time and she makes a vow to the lord give me a son and i'll give him back to you for the rest of his life the bible says god opens up her womb but god says that the bible says that god not only blessed her with one child but the bible says that god blessed her with five additional children won't he do it oh let me sit down because y'all don't understand you don't understand what makes some people shouts you don't understand why some people wave their hands they don't care that you look at them funny they don't care that they might be getting on your nerves they don't care that they're clapping their hands they've been through hell and hard water and they're running out of time what god has for me it is for me and i don't know who i'm speaking to right now in this church or online but if you're going to go out and get in your purpose you better understand that it starts with pain and sometimes god would allow people to come in your life to provoke you you better understand friends that god will also hold you back sometimes to shoot you forward but you got to seek the lord who am i talking to right now you've been shut up you've been tied down but it's time to shake yourself loose it's either now or never if not you then who if not now then when it's time to step into your purpose the lord is my light salvation whom shall i fear the lord is the strength of my life of whom shall i be afraid the lord is my refuge and strength a very present help in time of trouble the lord is my shepherd i shall not want after hannah made a vow to god anna gave god an exceptional praise because she was about to get an exceptional promise sometimes people don't understand your worship they don't understand your praise but think about hannah when hannah came to the church she didn't fit in with other church folk because she didn't come from the same place they had come from her prayer came from some pain her prayer came from some provoking her prayer came from some problems and the reason she praised god like she did even though church folk were critical of her is because you will never understand my pain until you appreciate my praise you don't understand my story things i've been through you can't feel my pain or what i had to go through just to get here today you'll never understand my praise don't try to figure it out because my worship my worship is for real i've been through too much not to worship him i've been through too much not to praise him know who you are know your purpose stop letting the devil make a slave out of you let me close this way the story is told of a little boy and a little girl let's call him timmy and susie little timmy and susie were visiting their grandpa parents on a farm one summer little timmy was given a slingshot to play with he was given this slingshot to play with out in the woods and little timmy practice in the woods but he could never hit the target getting a little discouraged little timmy headed back to his grandparents house for dinner as he's walking back to his grandparents house he sees his grandmother's pet duck out of impulse little timmy let the slingshot fly he pulled that thing back and hit the duck square in the head and killed the duck little timmy was sad little timmy was shot libby little timmy was scared in a panic little timmy hid the dead duck in a wood pile because sin must always have a covering i wish i had time [Music] whenever you see it you got to cover it up i wish i had time he hides the duck in a wood pile but only to see his sister susie watching susie had seen it all but she said nothing after lunch the next day grandma said susie let's wash the dishes but susie said oh grandma timmy told me that he wanted to wash the dishes [Music] then susie whispered to timmy remember the duck so timmy did the dishes later that day grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing grandma said oh i'm sorry but i need susie to stay with me to help me make dinner susie smiled well grandma that's all right timmy told me that he wanted to help she whispered again to timmy remember the duck so sally went fishing and timmy stayed to help after several days of timmy doing both he and susie's chores he couldn't stand it any longer crying he went to his grandmother he confessed grandma i killed the duck jimmy's grandmother knelt down beside him gave him a big hug and said sweetheart i know i was standing at the window and i saw the entire thing but because i love you i forgave you i was just wondering how long you would let susie make a slave out of you and i just stopped by today to tell somebody that whatever is in your past whatever you've done whatever it is that the devil keeps throwing in your face lying cheating fear bad habits hatred anger injury promiscuity whatever it is somebody needs to know that god was at the window god saw the whole thing god has seen your entire life but god wants you to know he loves you but he wants you to know you're forgiven but he wants to know how long are you going to let the devil make a slave out of you i'm done i don't know about you but i know my purpose and i refuse to let the devil make a slave out of me i refuse to let the devil make a fool out of me i refuse to never never make sport out of me jesus he died for me jesus hung for me jesus he bled for me jesus was crucified for me and jesus rose for me so neville you didn't create me god did devil you didn't make me god did devil you didn't die for me but god did and devil you can't save me but god can he was wounded for my transgressions bruised for my iniquities that just has been my peace was upon him but today by his stripes i'm healed today do you want to know your purpose today do you want to be free today do you want to be liberated do you want to be emancipated some of us don't realize that we're caught up in the devil's penitentiary because we don't know our purpose some of us are just caught up we're on sinner life sentence we're just so used to living a certain way we've just resigned in our spirit that i'll always be this way and there's nothing that's going to change me but for somebody today somebody who's watching today someone who's seated here today you're serving a life sentence you don't have to serve it's time to come out of satan's jail the blood of jesus [Music] it makes us free know your purpose [Music] it begins sometimes with pain and sometimes god will allow certain people in his life through his permissive will to provoke you sometimes i've [Music] he'll learned you back because he's trying to shoot you forward and then at the end of the day you got to seek the lord because with god [Music] it is for me and what god has for you [Music] it is for you i know without a doubt he will bring me out [Music] because what god [Music] has for me it is for me every head about every i close god in the name of jesus through the intercession of the holy spirit [Music] we've got to know the purpose that you have for our lives and so in learning and discovering that purpose some of us 20 some of us 50 some of us 70 but some of us still we're trying to ascertain the purpose you have for our lives and so lord today we we we've been reminded that purpose sometimes begins with pain we've been reminded that sometimes you allow people to come in our lives and they provoke us but you're just simply pulling us back because in your time you're going to shoot us forward but we've got to seek you seek you you said your word seek you first in your kingdom and your righteousness and all these things shall be added unto us and so god there's a man there's a woman there's a boy there's a girl who's in this sanctuary and there's someone who is watching right now and they're tossing and turning in their bed at night they're looking up in the ceiling at night they drive aimlessly they sit aimlessly and they're trying to discover what the purpose is that you have for their lives there's someone else oh god it seems as if they have trouble after trouble trial after trial and lord they're searching they're trying to find the purpose you have for their lives [Music] so lord i don't know who they are i don't know where they are but i know they're here and i pray that you would speak to them right now and help them to understand they no longer have to be a slave to satan they no longer have to be a slave to themselves or a slave to sin because if the son jesus lord if you set us free may they know they can be free indeed so lord do it today now i'm going to pause in this prayer oh god and i'd beg of forgiveness of sin because even today there's a man there's a woman there's a girl there's a boy that no longer wants to be on center life sentence they want to know their purpose they want to walk in their your will that you have for their lives so move even now god i pray as we pause this prayer i invite everyone to rise to your feet right now we're about to end time to rise to your feet everybody stand let's stand appeal is simple today those watching those in person you want to walk in the purpose god has for you what has for me you want to walk in me young old marriage single black white you want to walk in your brother [Music] sometimes you will be provoked sometimes god will pull you back but just know he's trying to shoot you forward sometimes and you got to seek his face you got to seek his church you got to go to where he is and you got to get out of center life sentence get out of satan's penitentiary so today that's appeal number one that's what you want that's what you need you're saying god reveal your purpose your will for my life there's someone else today throughout this coronavirus pandemic god is speaking to you telling you you've got to pivot you got to pivot you were going one direction but you got to re-pivot now and he needs to go another direction you got to take inventory of who you are where you are where you're going and understand what his purpose is for you today september the 18th 2021. today if that's you you want to know god's purpose for your life or perhaps you you need to pivot or re-pivot i want you to come down front i'm going to step back but i want you to come down front because i'm going to pray for you today and by your coming down front you're acknowledging full surrender you need to give the lord and you're saying god show me my purpose show me where it will for my life i'm at a crossroads in my life i'm 20 i'm 30 i'm 40 i'm 50 i'm 60 i'm at a crossroads lord i need you to show my purpose right now god bless you sis god bless you you don't need to be on sinner life sentence anymore god bless you god bless you sis lord show me my your will show me your purpose for my life i've been going this direction but lord i need you to put me back where i need to be covet 19 has got me all confused just got me all messed up i don't pray like i used to pray i don't study the word like i used to study the word i don't worship you like i used to worship i stopped going to church and i was watching online now i've been at home and i haven't even been watching online god get me to re-pivot show me my [Music] [Music] education do i go this way job do i go this way companionship do i go this way god show me [Music] what is your will for me today if that's you i want you to come right now and by your coming you're acknowledging to yourself you're not acknowledging to god lord show me my purpose give me direction that's why you're coming down front because you're acknowledging yourself acknowledging yourself god i need you to direct me i need to show you i know without a doubt [Music] [Music] before the praise even sings that course one more time i i dare you to miss there's a man there's a woman there's a boy there's a girl there's somebody watching online you're responding to appeal number one if you're online there was someone who got a hold of my email address and they emailed me i know the name of the person i'm gonna be calling them they live in houston texas they're looking for a church to unite with praise be to god so there's somebody who's watching right now this is for you too appeal number one is still there i need direction i need lord you to show me the trajection of my life i need purpose i'm trying to just live and be living but appeal number two there's a man there's a woman there's a boy this girl you need to give me your hand today but give jesus your heart baptism read baptism transfer of your membership to this church profession of your faith but you want to be a part of the body of christ don't let this harvest pass a part of your purpose a part of your new direction is to surrender your life to jesus christ he loves you more than you could ever imagine there is nothing you could do that could stop him from loving you he loves you he loves you when you let and love yourself he loves you even when you think you're unlovable but like hannah today he wants you to seek him and you need to seek him baptism read baptism professionally your faith transfer your membership you want to be a part of god's commandment keeping jesus loving holy ghost intoxicated body they're gonna sing that course one more time and even as they sing appeal one appeal to whosoever will let him let her even just as you are whosoever will let him come what god has to be sing it with god it is for me [Music] this is your moment this is your day this is your time [Applause] now is the day of your salvation september 18 2021 today god is calling you grip being in a penitentiary of sin great being on sinner life's sentence to the lord [Music] [Music] i'm afraid i'm i'ma close but even as i pray [Music] you need to re-pivot i invite you to come those that want baptism i invite you to come this is the most important point of this service praise god for the announcements praise god for the music praise god for the sermon but right now when god is extending his loving arms to you this is the most important part of this service you've been through too much not to worship him not to praise him so today while you hear his voice heart not your hearts i'ma close on prayer but even as i pray baptism re-baptism or you're saying god show me my purpose i invite you to come father heaven in the name of jesus you did it again you stopped by finding today [Music] thank you we praise you we have individuals who've come down to the front individuals who have responded to the live stream saying lord they want to know their purpose god they need direction show them the way navigate their lives order their steps [Music] god as we seek to know our purpose for those who come down those seeking to repivot in their lives god may they be reminded that we've got to be careful what we ask for we got to be careful what we pray for because we just might get it hallelujah and so lord we're standing here these people come to the front they're saying they want to know their purpose they're coming because they're saying they've got to pivot or re-pivot but god may they understand what they're asking for because to know their purpose it's going to be some pain to know their purpose somebody's going to provoke them even before they get home today somebody's going to send them a text somebody's going to give them a call somebody is going to provoke them they never forget that you will hold and pull them back because you're trying to shoot them forward because you've got something special for them in their life but today they've come to the front god because they're seeking you [Music] i'll be with the individual who lord has made a decision for baptism for rebaptism for profession of faith transfer to membership seal that decision in the name of jesus thank you for what you've done today at this your church your temple your sanctuary i made these individuals who come to the front maybe individuals who have responded online may they never be the same again we love you lord we thank you and we praise you touch these people in jesus name and for his sake we pray convocation it is in mansfield texas yes all right let's watch this video to hear more about it arkansas louisiana new mexico oklahoma texas and the southwest region conference we weren't able to have camp meeting but we are having convocation mark your calendars and planned to be present for the southwest region conference convocation on october 16 2021 at the newly constructed 5 000 seat mansfield isd performing arts center in suburban dallas texas located at 1110 west debbie lane in mansfield dr carlton p byrd newly elected southwest region conference president will be the divine worship speaker and special music will be rendered by renowned gospel artist pastor marvin sapp along with the southwest region conference mass choir and the southwestern adventist university singers additionally during the divine worship experience community recognition will be given to several individuals including congresswoman sheila jackson lee of the united states house of representatives penny johnson ceo of advent health's southwest region and anna patterson president of southwestern adventist university for our children and early teens from ages 4 to 15 we will have a special divine worship experience titled champions for christ featuring the internationally renowned power team registration will take place from 10 to 11 a.m with this special service beginning at 11 a.m for our adults there will be sabbath school at 10 a.m divine worship at 11 a.m ministerial ordination at 3 30 p.m and a special historical feature celebrating the 75th year anniversary of the southwestern union mission the forerunner of the southwest region conference at 5 pm additionally there will be a parade of nations highlighting the different countries that now comprise the membership of the
