[Music] hi everyone and welcome to this week's project hope everyone's doing well if you haven't already please consider subscribing this week i have a figured maple ball blank it's two and a half by seven and this project was uh suggested by a viewer some time ago i'm sorry i don't remember who they suggested random holes in a blank that i poured different color resins into and my first idea was to uh do it slowly over time as i had extra resin but i just didn't do it so i decided to try it with this piece and see how it went i'm using total bolt resin here i do have a discount code for total boat in the video description if you want to check it out there's a link for fifteen percent off so after mixing up the resin i pour it into three different cups i might have added a fourth one off camera this one's pure white from black diamond the next one is blue green also from black diamond and the next one is from ecopoxy and the color is called dolphin it's a silvery color so i just really picked these colors randomly this was kind of an experiment i guess so as you saw when i was drilling the holes i used different size drill bits even put some holes in the side and tried to drill in different angles to see if it would make any artistic difference think overall it did let me know what you think after you see the finished product so that green that i just poured that blue green the reason i put the paper towel there is it had was connected apparently to one of the side holes that i that i drilled so it was leaking a little bit but the paper towel and the tape were enough to stop it up and i put it through the planer to get a flat surface afterwards and you can see all of the random sized holes there using a center finder to find center so i can drill for a worm screw this piece had some spelting in it that was kind of neat it was rated a double a um but i thought it was it was a pretty good piece and add some character to it so getting it situated on the worm screw making sure it's tight in the chuck and pulling up the tail stock and starting out with the carter and sun bowl gouge just getting it trued up there was still some bumpy resin on the side that i had to turn off at this point i think i'm going around 600 rpm turn it up a little here i believe probably around seven 750 here and as you can tell by the tool on top of the piece as it's spinning it did true up pretty easily here i am flattening what will be the bottom and also starting the curve on the side and i decided to use a tenon on this piece just because of the size of it and i wanted to get as much depth in the bowl as possible so a mortise would have taken away from that a little bit squaring things up on the tenon with the skew chisel and i'm starting to turn away some material so on this piece because it was kind of different i wanted a different sort of bowl shape i usually do a traditional sort of soft curve on platters sometimes og shaped which is kind of traditional i think on this one i wanted something different so i ended up just doing sort of a triangle-ish straight line from the rim down to the foot so that's what you see me doing here is uh taking material away to to have that sharp line [Music] i'm checking out the progress here seeing if the resin holes are full or empty or have more turning to do removing the worm screw and placing it in the chuck with the tenon you can really see some spalting right there in the top with the sharp old gouge i start the hollowing process hey if you've been watching my channel for a while you know that uh late last year i had a bet with my brother uh that i could get to 20 000 subscribers by halloween uh clearly that didn't work um he has been pretty pretty uh gentle with me and not made me pay him the 100 bucks just yet um i i told him maybe by this coming halloween i'd get to twenty thousand just a year late things have been a little slow lately in terms of channel growth so uh if you're a regular viewer and uh you haven't subscribed uh would really help me out if you hit that subscribe button if you're still watching and you uh like what you what what you're seeing please consider liking giving it a thumbs up it helps the youtube algorithm uh get this and other videos of mine in front of people who might enjoy it so thank you in advance changing out the tool rest here to the interior curved tool rest and at this point what i'm doing i just have to change the the tool rest location a little bit but at this point what i'm doing is really being careful about the depth that i'm turning to and ex seeing how many you know resin holes are exposed so i stop frequently checking the thickness as well i see at this point you can see maybe two two of the resin holes so just taking my time and really taking off very thin layers of material to see to see what we have switching to the internal shear scraper here to make sure that kerner haven't has a nice curve a couple more resin holes appear if i did this over i would probably a couple things i would do i would probably drill initially the uh the holes deeper than i did i thought i had told them deep enough and i did but uh it would have given me the option to leave the bowl a little bit thicker it was fine the way it turned out but if i wanted a thicker bowl i would have had that choice and the other thing i would do is i think i would use just really random colored resin um use more colors although i like this the way that this one turned out i would try it again with very contrasting colors and i know when i've done resin pours like this before or similar to this some of the viewers i mean to each their own there's there's no judgment um some people like the the resin really measured and meticulous um so this might bother some people um because it's it's not meticulous at all it's you know obviously random holes in a piece of wood i think it gives it a little bit of a artistic flair i like that they're different sizes and and random locations but that's just me let me know what you think down in the comments i'd love to hear what you think i do answer all of the comments or questions so if you have a question please be sure to leave it down below also in the video description uh in the last couple of videos i think i've been leaving a list of the discount codes that i have i i have several i might not necessarily use every one of the products in a single video but i have discount codes for axe wood paste for total vote for star bond ca glue for ariat work wear so some some really good discounts some of them many of them are 15 which is which is pretty good so after sanding uh cleaning it here with denatured alcohol and this part is the sanding sealer i apply one coat of sanding sealer let it dry and then i de-nib it with this scotch brite pad before starting with the axe wood paste and if you haven't tried axe not only should you for the discount code alone but it is as easy as you see me doing here it is as easy as that to use it's not a long turnout process it's not difficult to learn it is just a great product that is very simple to use which are the best kind in my opinion made in the usa and right in pennsylvania so one of my favorite parts of the bowl you could see it there a minute ago but there is some spalting on one side of the rim [Music] and not the other that's kind of one of my favorite features of it you can let me know what you think of that down in the comments you can see it pretty clearly in the pictures that will come up here at the end not quite yet but soon taking it off the lathe and giving the camera a little bit of a close-up you can see that spalting there on the side i have to take off the tenon i haven't done that quite yet and i don't film that piece but there it is here are some beauty shots coming up me know what you think and be sure to subscribe like share the video that would be greatly appreciated until next week peace out you
