hey everyone in this video we're touring the Magnolia tiny house that has beautiful and unique design elements inside and out it's 30 feet long which is plenty of space for a living room a kitchen a large bathroom and space to sleep nine people this tiny house is currently a cottage for Lisa and her two girls but she's also planning to live in it full-time once she retires Lisa bought a lot at an RV Resort and she was able to park her tiny house there because it was already certified as an RV by the Builder she's going to give us a full tour and tell us all about it so let's go check it out I had this really big desire to have a cottage where my kids and I could have memories and do fun weekends and still have that relatively close to our our home in town it was a big dream of mine to have that but being a single mom an issue was always the affordability and this was a way for myself and my girls to be able to have our little cottage in the woods near a lake and still have it be affordable and one of the biggest reasons I think that I went tiny was that it was an investment for my retirement so no matter what happens I have a home already that can follow me wherever I go so if I'm going to be here in 20 years I have no idea but wherever I decide to go I can just bring my home with me so not only do I get to enjoy with my kids but it's a forward investment in my own retirement so this living area I wanted to have a large enough couch so that you know FLE someone needed to sleep here we could fit it in like a bed but this is the area where my girls and I like to snuggle in and watch a movie so I wanted it big enough big pillows storage is really key as well so we did three very long deep drawers underneath and on this side is some Cole this is where the hot water on demand is and just some other mechanical things the water filter and whatnot so this is our dining bar where the girls like to have our meals and sit here and have our breakfast and look at the Chipmunks and these windows fully open so it's nice to have some fresh air sitting here and have that indoor outdoor experience so all of them open and my plan is to have a deck out here that is covered so we have that living area where we can do the indoor outdoor living space and have the pass-through from the kitchen out to the outdoor dining space this is a very big sink it's big enough for me to bathe in yeah I just wanted to have a big sink because I don't have a dishwasher and building a tiny home you kind of have to pick and choose what's more important for you for appliances and I have a washer/dryer combo as opposed to a dishwasher because I figured I can hand wash my dishes but I'm not going to be hand washing towels so that's why I picked a very large sink but it still left a lot of counter space for me to prep this is enough for me to make full-on meals so this stove is propane heat and it you know it's not huge but you could definitely cook a small turkey in there and my fridge here is electric so is the AC heat pump that's also electric so I have two girls six and eight years old and this is their bunk bedroom and I wanted to do double beds so that in the future if they want to have sleepovers they could double up with their buddy because there's not a lot of space in here for extra kids and for their bedding I ended up getting it's almost like a zippered top so everything stays in place and because I knew I wanted something that would look neat because wherever you are in this place you can see the bunk beds so that was important for me to have something that was a little more streamlined storage was important for me so they both have drawers underneath their bunk beds we keep it pretty limited as to what they can bring we just have some clothes here we don't keep a lot of toys because I want them to be outside playing with pinecones and moss and sticks one of the things that was important for me was for the girls to have a large window because bunk beds can feel kind of cramped sometimes but I wanted them to feel like they were outside so I picked very large windows for them to have some not only have an egress way to get out in case of emergency but to have that really nice green landscape to wake up to and then that moves us over to the stairs up to the sleeping loft so I wanted to utilize as much storage space as possible so they left these couple of stairs hollow so I just have some storage baskets to keep extra things like extra mugs and flashlights and whatnot and I wanted to have it wide enough so it feels secure going up and down these stairs at night so one of the things that was important for me was to have a large bed up here and I was able to fit a king-sized bed up here it's really if you had a queen-size bed you'll end up with a couple of feet and you're not gonna be standing up and getting out of bed so it didn't really make sense to have a queen-size so I thought go big or go home I wanted to have a little bit of privacy without closing it off completely so I thought about half wall or some open bookshelves so that I do have a little bit of privacy up here but it's still open and doesn't feel closed in and I have some storage on the other side here for sweaters and extra blankets and some books and whatnot so it's nice to have extra storage without it feeling closed off so I think the bathroom is actually one of my favorite features of this tiny cottage even if you have a tiny cottage you don't have to have a tiny bathroom some nothings small I have like a full vanity the toilet is a flush toilet because we're on septic here so that's nice to have that full hookup and also for the shower it's nice to have be able to have a shower and not worry about filling up a tank I wanted to have it feel open and instead of doing a frosted glass which I thought I would do first for a privacy and whatnot I thought no we should just keep it open so it feels brighter in there and it feels bigger for the fan moisture is always an issue with tiny homes and to have that like where to place the fan because there wasn't a lot of open wall space to put something functional like that we decided to put it in the shower and that deals with the moisture right away at the source the second law is the guest loft but actually I've left it as a plate loft for the kids so if the weather's not great they go up there and there's a little couch and I've put a little craft box up there with all kinds of goodies and the nice thing is their little couch it opens up into a queen bed so if I do have extra guests that I need to house they can sleep up there this ladder that we custom-built to get up to the guest loft it's galvanized steel that was spray-painted to kind of match all the other brushed bronze gold look that we have going on and it continues up onto the bar up top kind of like a safety issue I didn't want to build up a wall to kind of cut it off but we did have concerns about things falling over it's become kind of a showpiece the first thing that people see when they come in and everyone's commented on how unique it is and yet functional [Music] [Applause] [Music] so summit tiny homes out of Vernon built my tiny cottage here and it's a husband wife duo young couple fantastic couple Oliver and Sara and Oliver and a crew built the actual cottage itself and Sara does the design and so her and I worked very closely for all the little details like countertops and the backsplash it was really a lot of fun to pick out even just the tiniest details like teal and this dark teal has been my favorite color since childhood and to build something that's completely mine I had to incorporate my favorite color I couldn't afford to do the traditional cottage route and there wasn't a lot of empty lots that we would be able to have full hookups on and so I just came across this development that they were going to keep it feeling like a provincial campground and keep all the trees and that really appealed to me when I found out that they were actually selling the land and not just leasing it I just jumped on it because I wanted to have something permanent I wanted something that was mine and to just have that reassurance that you know down the road a lease wouldn't just expire and I'd have to find another place so on my lot I have a 50 amp power I have full sewage I have propane that's hooked up just to my unit and we have Wi-Fi here too so that's pretty nice a large draw to this lot is the proximity to the lake it's about a two minute stroll to the lake and it's a beautiful pebbly beach and my kids and I like to just pack up a lunch and head down to the beach and hang out there all day moving to this area there it's so naturally beautiful a lot of Forest Lakes it's just gorgeous [Applause] if you're interested in learning more about summit tiny homes who built Lisa's tiny house we'll put a link in the description below please share this video
