[Music] it is a great December day at Soldier Field the perfect setting for an NFC Central showdown the Packers and the Bears meeting for the first time in 30 years in the second half of a season each with winning records that hasn't happened since 1963 the Packers are tied for the lead in the division with Detroit and Chicago is a game back Jim Nance Randy cross were pleased to bring you the game today Brett Favre with that bruised eye he will go today at quarterback and that thigh is a factor if he has to run but if the Packers have Favre running they're in trouble how about Jackie Harris back in the lineup 17 days after a scope he's back he might be pushing it but Mike Holmgren needs him in this offense they'll face the Bears defense that has not given up 20 points since the opener a span of 10 games there are many defensive lines they can control a game all by themselves but we have to here today with these two defensive lines it's the kind of a day and the kind of a game matchup that you expect could come down to a lake field goal Kevin Butler last time the Bears played at home he missed against the Raiders on November the 7th that would have wanted and Chris Jackie kicked the winner in the Packers last road game at New Orleans a couple of weeks back the weather today in the high 30s chilly cloudy and a gray day the field will be a factor Jim it's muddy and it's wet Chicago having won the toss and that kicked sideways from Jackie we'll take it out at the 35 [Applause] [Music] took off out of bounds small would be placed at the 35 first half so the Bears offense directed by Jim Harbaugh an offense that has not scored a touchdown against the Packers in their last 21 possessions here's the offensive line Jay Loewenberg on that right side will be matched up today against Reggie White in the backfield Anderson and Heyward OB starts swaddle as well as a receiver Jennings as the tie day they have two tight ends Ryan wet night is in there also and a roll out on first down Harbaugh has to get rid of it Reggie white giving chase in fact the Packers in the first matchup this season sacked Harbaugh seven times yerkovich is the nose tackle white with 10 and a half sacks so as the same number of sacks repop Bryce pop ten and a half sex and here's the secondary Leroy Butler with five interceptions if there's a mismatch today Jim it's his pattern defense loses a yard Tony Bennett that to him first both Dave Wannstedt and Jim Harbaugh made the point you know we need to get off to a good start we haven't played well in front of our home fans and we need them on our side well the start they're getting off to right now they won't have too many people on their side well played by Tony Bennett working against Christian on the top of the screen they're in the lead block a lot of support inside it's the port outside there is nowhere to go Fred banks has come in as an extra receiver the Bears have struggled on their opening possession all season in fact they have failed to score a touchdown on their first possession all year one field goal on their first drive of the season and each game Anderson short at the first George Koons brought him down about three yards shy of the first down that tells you two things right there on that play one that Neal Anderson's maybe lost a little bit of a step because company years ago I don't think George Koons RIT runs him down quite like that and and to the Packers do have some good speed at linebacker with with Kunz and Bennett and pop Chris Gardocki to kick the Brooks Robert Brooks Louisburg snaps it [Applause] at the 23 of 33-yard boot bruised thigh on the play before the winning touchdown pass against Tampa Bay but he's starting today with this offensive line in front of them Rutgers goes against Richard dent Thompson and Bennett in the backfield Sharpe has the most receptions this year in the National Football League and Harris at tight end if you control the defensive tackles of the bears you can control the line of scrimmage [Applause] heart run near a first maybe just a bit shy but almost 10 yards on that carry for Darryl Thompson Tootie Robbins with a good block dent has matched the number of sacks this season by Reggie White 10 and a half sacks Donte Jones three interceptions at middle linebacker and there's the secondary Lincoln carrier Gail and Wolford they've got the first down so from the 34 [Music] and that is Mark Clayton near another first but they going to spot them out at the 42 so it'll be second and to look for Brett Favre to do this all day Mike Holmgren knows against this passion Russian bears defense you have to do a lot of three-step drops look one two three get rid of that ball and get it out to receiver right now don't let the defensive line get into rhythm you talk about quarterback rhythms this is a D line that has a rhythm all its own two tight ends in for Green Bay West and Harris second down has the first down out to the 48 Richard dent eventually brought him down broke from Dante Jones legit when you see it back run like that you have to think the lines doing a good job of staying on blocks watch the linemen blocking to D Robbins down a little kick off by Carey Galbraith and just a bad tackle there by Dante Jones Bennett ran right through it so a couple of quick first downs for the Packers operating near midfield split backfield back to the original starting line [Applause] down at the 35 Jacky Harris right back into the lineup and picks up 16 and that's the kind of thing Mike Holmgren and these Packers have really missed is having Jackie Harris in there it stretches out a defense and it challenges probably the weakest part of this bears defense and that's their linebackers the linebackers are forced to run with Jackie Harris who can run like a wide receiver you ever heard of a guy coming back from the operation so fast it's amazing I mean those guys right now and if she reserved out for the year after scopes a couple weeks ago from the 35 of Chicago at the 30 by Wolford couple of quick pops over to Clayton on this series and the one part part of the offense is missing right now for the Packers is probably the most obvious part that's sterling charm but you know he made the point to us yesterday you know if they want to take me away they can take me away but if Mike Holmgren wants me to catch balls I don't think they can keep me from catching balls second down five [Applause] dives inside of the 30 it'll set up a third and about three Shaun Gayle came up to make the play Minnesota Detroit how do you see that one today Randy without Barry Sanders I think Detroit is severely hurting cuz that puts the pressure on Rodney Peete and those receivers and I just don't think they have the the passing game or the poise to win without Barry Sanders [Music] [Applause] this is a sterling sharp down this is where you look to find a way to get it to him and three [Applause] traffic perfect pass to Harris first down at the 20 right between carrier and Dante Jones and really watch the way when Sterling Sharpe goes into motion number 84 motioning across the screen watch Harris just runs right up the middle settles right in the hole there between Maurice Douglas and Dante Jones and you know you can stay far through a nice pass but it was a better job of Harris of finding that soft spot in the zone first down from the 20 wide open hold on they whistled the play dead as wide open as Paris what somebody headed this flat and I didn't hear a whistle and I looked up as if wait a minute wait how could he be that open second clock malfunction there is no foul there is no play still first down Gerry Austin the referee today well if you're the Green Bay Packers you think there was a foul on that last play because by stopping that one there probably cost him a touchdown Traci Armstrong was poked in the eye we're told he'll return but meanwhile on some Spellman has taken his place in the lineup figure to get a smaller piece of ice on traces I than that gripping old bags couple ice cubes apartment in the same job that would suffice eighth play of the opening series you spell first and ten [Applause] here's the Bears defense coming up with the big play Steve McMichael McMichael ping it is 180 seventh consecutive game breaking Walter Payton's marked for most consecutive games played watch this watch the penetration McMichael met hands here I mean he's made a lot of offensive linemen over the years miserable yours truly included is an amazing guy that can keep going the way he's going right now and he's somebody for these young bears to look at and he's one of the main reasons I think this bears defense is the way it is he provides a lot of attitude and that consecutive game strength of course was not taken to account the strike season of 87 second down 12 it's this is Jeremy Lincoln we fit all the way for the touchdown 86 yards that was a tough decision here Jim but looks like Farah was banged up trying to make that tackle this can really a double hurt on the Packers Donte Jones with his fourth interception of the season [Applause] immediately the Jeremy Lincoln the Bears defense comes up big again [Applause] this defense is truly amazing it is the best offense the Bears have [Applause] Butler adds the extra point 7-nothing Chicago a shocking 86 yard return [Applause] [Music] we labored to make the new Dodge Ram the standard for quietness in a pickup we triple-sealed two doors we coated the hinges with friction reducing material and to help eliminate wind noise we even came up with a special sound deadening antenna cover as Pleasant and comfortable as our new truck is we just couldn't allow it to whistle while it works new Dodge Ram motor trends Truck of the Year color white seal start with Kodak film friendly set to Kodak color white seal for great color love seal who knows right great the client everybody's comfortable to go this is called trying to go back to a good things went too often Dante Jones just like he didn't Thanksgiving day steps in front of a poor pass and as a I guess the fourth side to hand the ball off great run by Lincoln but the biggest factor on that play wasn't the touchdown I don't think it could be the impossible injury and bang up a farm watches shoulder right there left shoulder on the ground there's books books to the 28 that is the first Bears interception return for a touchdown since 1991 couple of seasons and of Dante Jones with about four interceptions and the future hall-of-famer Mike Singletary will be replaced in the lineup never have more than one pick in a season by Singletary oh is one of those rare individuals you never lost track of where Mike was Dante's Dante is playing well but he's probably the best linebacker and a linebacker unit I think offenses will try to exploit here as the season winds down [Applause] all right back out there so active in it who scoots ahead for six tres Armstrong returned to the lineup and he made the tackle telling stat is the takeaway stat for the Bears in the six victories 19 turnovers they forced in the five losses they managed only three takeaways Thompson in the Chicago territory and carrier finally makes the tackle at the 32 33-yard screen pass play for the Packers Frank winners one of many good blocks upfield you really can't overestimate what Jackie Harris has really meant to this offense they're running things now they have not run in weeks they look more confident they're moving the ball coming back look at the offensive line out there in front nice job by Thompson you know this Packer offense has moved the ball but the problem is going to be the mistakes for Brett Favre it has been this season winters with that good walk you saw 33 yards and [Applause] the yard pass play to Clayton down to the 26 Lincoln bumped them out [Music] and they're rolling everything right at Sterling Sharpe they're rolling right too watch what happens he's always talking about I'm running these little hitches I'm just sort of standing there but the way the defense is rolling the safety Donnell Wolford is there inside is a safety just waiting for Sterling Sharpe to come inside rookie carl simpson has come in for lent Michael it's second down and five crooks and the parents read it all Gail and Dave Wannstedt bear defense is pretty much just played physical up front forcing with their safeties playing almost a seven eight man look up front they're getting too much penetration they have too many people on the line and on or near the line of scrimmage to be messing around with with the foolishness of a misdirection Simpson and Ryan on that defensive line are shuttling in with McMichael and Zorich McMichael and Zorich now on the field [Applause] how's the first down that was a sharp pass play that one the Robert Brooks I say sharp pass point we haven't seen sterling so far in the mix I think that's one thing that this Packer offense has to prove to their opponents is that they can move the ball and they can effectively do things without sterling sharp I mean they're gonna wear this poor guy out look in the slide as Brooks just makes his break comes inside and just a pinpoint pass by Brett Favre there was only about a nine inch area I think he had a chance to throw it in but he threw it right in so the Packers are moving the football again as they were on their first series [Applause] in for the touchdown sterling shark eighteen yard touchdown [Music] you know sharks always get it caught into the comparison game Jerry Rice Andre Rison Michael Irvin no receiver in the league is stronger than this guy look at him to slough just slough off carrier Donnell Wolford comes in here never steps out of bounds does shark and with his strength forget it I don't care if carrier was a linebacker you're not gonna knock sterling sharp out before he gets across the goal line his ninth touchdown of the season Chris Jackie ties it at seven [Applause] so the packers cover right back driving 71 yards 7-7 in the first the most powerful overall line of truck engines on the planet has just gotten two cylinders better introducing the new 300 horsepower Dodge Magnum v10 now available in this handsome carrying case new Dodge Ram motor trends Truck of the Year if you cool guys up and legal were wearing new loose fit Dockers which didn't surprise anyone after all nobody does pants like Dockers CBS Sports coverage of the National Football League is sponsored by the new dodge a division of the Chrysler Corporation Levi's loose fitting jeans coca-cola classic always the real thing always coca-cola and by cannon a world leader and thirty five-millimeter photography Jim Nantz and Randy cross with you from Soldier Field 7-7 first quarter Brett Favre look at the numbers so far that's amazing what he's done and what he's really done is lead this pack or offense down the field twice and made one bad pass but as his nature does Bears defense they made him pay Jackie kicks to Conway Curtis Conway running a back from the floor down a seam up the middle Conway to the 27th Jim Morrissey made the hit net the 27th so the Bears offense will take the field for the second time when we return tied in the first [Music] [Music] you had to think going into this game it had the makings of a 10-7 13:10 type game but some sterling performance is so far and I don't say that as a play on words I say that really in regards to the mayor's return for a touchdown and then Favre coming right back with the body may have been shaken up leading the Packers to a tying touchdown Chicago on first down hands it off to Anderson for no gain yerkovich clock the middle attended this bear offense has got to get something going against the Packers or they're gonna absolutely wear their defense out they've got to get their defense off the field Green Bay is moving the ball well offensively but the Pat the Bears need to do something they haven't scored a touchdown against the Packers in twenty two possessions goes all the way down it back to the second game of 91 suck at that tip there's a Harbaugh pass come on target it's a Tom Waddell and that's good enough for a first down that's what this Pat this is this Baird offense really needs is for Jim Harbaugh to step up and become a passer become a quarterback as few yards as a throw for there's a real premium got watch a job being done on Reggie White you've absolutely got to account on him every play but we'll Jay housekey basically took him on that time all by himself Fred banks [Music] when you breakdown Anderson's rushing totals on first down this season he averages a little over two yards to carry on first down attempts and he was stuffed on first and ten to start this series and this time picks up about a yard well the guy that made that play really go is Leroy Butler coming from a strong safety position just force the heck onto that and forced everything back inside when you talk about having having force and having contained that's having contained you turn everything back to the rest of your defenders second down to nine action [Music] through the hands of Waddell Terrell Buckley defending nose after a quick glimpse around you didn't see any flags that you know that's great coverage when they don't throw flags and if they do decide to throw the hankie on yet that you may eat maybe got a little too physical he was very physical on that one if they throw a pennant Lee it's passed interference but if they don't you're just very physical and he's all over I mean all over waddles nice job for receivers in for the Bears that's Doug Evans [Applause] job waddles open Harbaugh throws the ball behind Waddell good job my Roland Michell of having the backside cover watch where the ball goes there's Evans he's got it it's bouncing I'd be hard-pressed to contend maybe that he dropped that thing it didn't really have possession but the Packers take over from there 46 come out throwing to Brooks Brooks breaks away to the 36 of Chicago well you know that an offense is throwing hits patterns with a defensive tackle gets all the way outside Chris Zorich knocks brookside bounds on that play and the Packers in farm or just doing what they've done all season long short quick drops little dinky kind of receptions and just a terrible job by Jeremy Lincoln of not wrapping up in tackling but what a job a hustling by Chris Zorich 43 yards offense here at the first corner Wilson in the backfield Doug pile Chicago football Steve McMichael on his record-setting day and he spikes it right to the referee I put my money on McMichael to get into a pile fighting for a ball some way somehow he's going to come up with that volley Mike Holmgren on the Packers sideline has got to be sick his offense is dominated and just come up with another stupid mistake because the ball was in his Bret bells putting his in his stomach and Wilson just fumbles it pure and simple it just pops right out of his arms that's the first fly of the game for Wilson and he fumbles it right back to the Bears might be the last offensive play of Wilson today by Corbett didn't even say about it they're 43 - Oh fee for a gain of about four maybe five Buckley on the coverage three turnovers here in the first quarter I had just mentioned total offense back to Green Bay has been racking up the yardage here Chicago 26 yards in the first quarter a minute 18 seconds to go in the first quarter Tim Worley now in the backfield second bound five rice pop brought up down at the 49 of the second third and short third in a long yard maybe to McMichael the second oldest defensive player in the NFL the oldest defensive lineman the only defender with more aged Clay Matthews of Cleveland is called will do professionally 187 straight games he's played in for Chicago breaking news driving [Applause] I don't think he got that even with a 320 odd pounds fullback Craig Hayward in front of him I think that Packer defense managed to stuff that up more than the yard to go I think he played the percentages here you pump this ball and pin back the Packer offense the last thing you want to do is give the Packers the ball here on the 47 48 yard line we all coach once that will get a little extra time to think about it as we come to the end of the first quarter with the score Green Bay 7 and Chicago 7 [Music] and across again we're glad to have you with us today from Soldier Field 7-7 after one quarter of the Bears facing a fourth and short situation you think they're going for it Harbaugh has got a great count here but you gotta think they're trying to draw them off they can't really be doing it not in this situation this is too critical and the Packer offense is moving it too well [Applause] [Music] [Applause] right you are and the Bears will punt so trying to get the Packers to get a little antsy and that's one of those defensive Huddle's during that timeout between quarters there where you know every defender for the Packers was saying no matter what they do no matter how hard he screams don't move a muscle that ball doesn't move you don't move you know that delay of game penalty counts against the offensive unit that's the first penalty against the Bears offense in four games [Applause] it looks like the Packers are all over it [Applause] well these are two good defenses and one offense that's a good offense in the Packers and a pretty inept offense in the Bears but Mike Holmgren SPAC errs are really making this thing interesting with their inability to this point of really having that efficiency of handling a football this is not that bad of weather it is not that terrible of wind condition and why they can't hold on to it I really don't know that was Mike Pryor falling on the football average yards on first down look at the advantage for the Packers [Applause] on first down they're averaging and another successful first down for Sterling Sharpe hit from behind that assured him of the first down 13-yard pickup Vinson Smith came in from behind that'll rattle your lunch bucket watch the end of this thing you see a little bit of the strength of Sterling Sharpe as he works against Donnell Wolford right here little straight arm action now watch Smith splatter sterling strong but when you don't see him coming I don't care how PICU first down run actor Bennett falling for about three [Music] like so far we talked about in the first series that to control the bear defense you must control the defensive tackles and aside from a big play by Steve McMichael on the last drive of the Green Bay Packers I think inside inside the Packers have handled the defensive tackles a middle linebacker Donte Jones at the path of the Bears for the first with pressure coming on far got rid of it just in time for 10 yards to Sterling Sharpe there's textbook quarterbacks and there's quarterbacks you say well gee if you're a young guy watch him brett farr is a slinger he's gonna do what he has to do to get it done watch the job though that was done up front watch how much room fart has in front of them when you're talking about dent you're talking about Armstrong you're talking about Spellman if they have to come all the way from the outside they're not gonna get there without pressure and huffing [Applause] [Music] Darrell Thompson Dante Jones plugging in the middle real surprise going on right now in the league and that's at Pittsburgh and you're gonna see that score in a moment they're playing New England today and the Patriots are now up 14 nothing there it is while the Patriots have proved on several occasion that no lead is safe to the front or behind you know they're competitive in every game [Applause] another first down at the 42 of Chicago 13 yards on that play in the second quarter early action of the second Green Bay in Chicago tied at 7 the Packers on their first possession were driving when farm was picked off by Dante Jones he handed off to Jeremy Lincoln who returned at 86 yards for a bears touchdown right back came Green Bay 71 yards they marched an 18 yard scoring toss to storm on the quarterback that was Brett Favre's first incompletion on first down he's right now 8 of 9 for 95 yards and that's really the key down for the Green Bay Packers they need to be successful on first down because that opens the PlayBook up that enables them to go to the Jackie Harris's throw the little short hitches to the wide receivers and it also enables Mike Hogan to have enough faith just go to the running game [Music] and once all the time at signal by far Green Bay is going to talk it over seven in the second and Lincoln with the touchdown return both of the Green Bay turnovers were in Chicago territory and thus far we talked about the two physical defensive lines in this game and their ability to take over a ball game so far the Green Bay defensive lines done their part of the job but the offensive line to the pack is you see there and the defensive line at ABARES I think this defensive line of the Bears so far has had it handed to second down Thompson Falls for near the first one of the real Marky things about the defensive line of the bears is their pursuit and their tenacity but watch out of position everybody gets Dante Jones overruns it winners pushes him by and this is not a defense that's used to being gashed like this especially against the run this is the defense that gets mad when they get mad they get even third and one from the 33 of Chicago and four receivers in on third in the yard Thompson very close Richard dent met them at the 32 question of how far forward the market oh this looks like it's gonna be a measurement Jim it's gonna be real close you see that right foot marking the ball [Music] if you're looking at fourth down for the chain gang and here's an instance where Mike Holmgren if he does have fourth down here he can go for it here I think the way his defense is playing against the Chicago offense inches and I think you go for it kind of a smile on his face doesn't it well I mean when things are clicking the way your offense is quick and everything on that chart he's got in his hand he can pretty much go to whatever he wants to at this point this is a situation that the Packers are lacking one thing is that that's legitimately blocking type of a fallback situation the Bears defense loves a challenge like this fourth and inches they visit a quarterback then it easily with the first driving to about the 27 watch the surge at the Green Bay Packers offensive line especially on the right side behind Harry Galbraith and Tootie Robbins watch this Wow Alonzo Spellman got way too high and Tootie Robbins just speared him how about first down totals in this game so far would you believe 12 to 1 remember the Packers have already turned it over twice in Chicago territory to the 24 gain of three ran into McMichael and Jones [Music] my conference been besides dove lake for being conservative with his play calling but I think without Jacky Harris it was sterling sharp banged up there hasn't been a whole lot that Coach Humphrey can really do offensively you know sharks foots not getting any better but with the running game coming around the last few weeks and Harris back now he's got a lot bigger playbook second down seven [Applause] still doesn't go down but he notches the defender backwards Wolford now it set up another third and short situation truly an amazing wide receiver sterling sharp I mean Dino Wolford I think is one of the best coverage corners in the league but this guy is so physical and so strong he puts a guy like Wolford in a situation where you've got to go low and really hold on and and hope for help coming later I mean at the rate they're using Sterling Sharpe this guy might wear out he's only big league about six years but it's been a long six years almost came away with it he already has one interception this season that's a real great matchup over there between Kent Rutgers Andrew and Richard dent been going at it for quite a while and you don't always have to get heat and get close to be a factor dent doesn't even rush he just sits back and waits for the duck pass Chris Jackie will try one inside a 40 yards he has made 26 straight this is 36 yards [Applause] into the street from inside 40 7/7 it remains next on CBS sports the jeep Eagle Tournament of Champions ski series featuring former Olympic medalist and World Cup champions like Franz Klammer Tamara McKinney Billy Kidd that's next today here on CBS worldly in the backfield pushed down for Chicago [Applause] Hansa were like George Teague came up to defend good anticipation by the Packer defense I mean they've held so far the Bears 228 yards pretty amazing this far into the game but when you when you're looking at an offense of the Bears they are so predictable at this point that I think enough a defense can really take chances and tee off ten worthy nice piece of running by Worley and I think they spot him past the 30 which would be good enough for the first we have an update for you so we sent it back to New York with Greg Gumbel all right houston astrodome the Oilers in the lead the Falcons threatening the ba-ba bears pass picked off in the end zone by Steve Jackson the Oilers have intercepted the Falcons twice in the end zone and hold on to a three nothing lead in the second quarter junior Randy back to you boy that really looked like Rison had it for a moment there he wanted the touchdown a touchdown that was stolen out of his arms to obey and the flag is thrown on Roland Michell the best offensive play of the day for Chicago is a pass interference call on Roland Michell and you know it sounds kind of tired and old but you better look back if you're going to be that close to a receiver down the field thanks for passing Affairs [Applause] the Harbaugh 2ob combination hooked up for a touchdown on Thanksgiving Day never look back that's an easy call look how long it takes for you Harbaugh to get pressured good fate gonna play action I mean that Brock was back there but he was back there about four and a half seconds after the ball was snapped 41 yard penalty the 27 of Greene [Applause] back up Chicago five yards Loewenberg looked like a pass play coming up two before the snap false start number 58 yards it's still a first down well it's definitely was going to be a pass just saw Lauren Berg just go back into his into his path protection mode but you how difficult is this of a 93 Bears game though the Packers are moving the ball up and down the field the Bears defense is having a bit of an off day the Bears offense isn't moving it but in typical fashion for Chicago they are close to the tie game this is this is the way they with football game and in position to go ahead first and 15 [Applause] Leroy Butler in Johnny Hamid refine on the tackle at the 31 [Music] kind of lift is were they given the bear since they signed him a month ago he's a big physical kind of running back that as you saw him that one play towards in the beginning of this possession he can get the corner good speed six two two and a quarter but he can move it is a deceiving back looks like he's loping but his movement second down 13 he had a nice run earlier on this series [Applause] Jennings and he's tackled at the 24 third and a pound six coming up George Koons ate the head at the 24 dancing yards well Favre 166 Chicago 23 but they did pick up 41 yards on the pass interference Harbaugh three out of seven so far in a game like this Jeff there's only one staff that matters that's the store third down six [Applause] has the first down with 8-yard play and the Bears with a new set of downs at the 16 now you talk about the crowd not being behind the Bears in the past tear harm in Chicago but what these fans really want and what these fans are getting right now is a reason to cheer we're getting some plays a big penalty a couple of good passes and this is the kind of offense the Bears are gonna run for this season it's not going to be flashy it's not very exciting but if it doesn't make mistakes it won't get to people [Applause] harbaugh to the in-zone [Music] area of waddle-waddle was open there too working against Roland Michell we're talking about the defensive lines well as I tell you this series are the last couple of plays at least Reggie White the defensive line has not been much of a factor there's will Jehan ski and blue and Burt working on Reggie White if you see two guys blocking on Reggie you got to think somebody else on the other side is getting man on man blocking the de man on man block is working because nobody's getting close second down ten that's whirly to the 11 will be third and five in the first meeting this year the game won on Halloween at at Green Bay the Packers won 17 to three but inside of the 20 Chicago had it's three times inside the 20 ended up with one field goal a fumble and a loss a turnover on downs a loss and downs so ineffective only came away with three points third and five here little confusion on the offensive Hertz down near the redstone [Music] the end zone and what for the head of fret banks the really go-to guy I guess it'd be Tom Waddell but there is not a receiver on this team that strikes anywhere near fear into the heart of the defensive backfield waddles a receiver that can get inside get downfield and get it but when you're getting all that zone you need a speed guy and he does not exist right now in this offense Conway be the closest thing it was one yard further back from the same spot on the field the last time Cutler attempted a kick here at Soldier Field this is 29 yards this time break down the middle on that last occasion he missed the field goal in the last play of the game that would have beaten the Raiders but a long time good kicker in this league Butler gives Chicago the 10-7 lead and the Bears lead at home 10 7 coming off that remarkable 12 day stretch three games on the road three wins this season around for me out of the end zone [Applause] the tackle by his own teammate the most important thing now I think in this game is hold on to the ball don't make the mistake you made earlier Brett Farve leave we'll have Saturday games coming up now including next weekend Saturday 3:30 Eastern Time 49ers travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons live from the Georgia Dome actually it all starts with the NFL today at 3:30 followed by the 49ers and Falcons and you have an over-and-under on that game huh that's gonna be one of those thousand yard offense kinds of games let's the bench mark with that now the Derrick's with that 49er offense and the red gun it's a defense won't be won't be the featured event next Saturday Green Bay from the 23 first down for 53 [Applause] out to the 30 gain of seven Joe Payne met him at the 30 roses plenty of time for Brett Favre in his offense to move the ball down the field the key for the Bears is going to be to try to cause one of these quarterbacks by the quarterback of the Packers farm to make a mistake he's got it interception so far they've got a fumble and you'd almost you call that a quarterback comparison but really there should be the term should be quarterback no comparison so far second down three Bennett riding right behind elite block event west picks up the first there's running to daylight and then there's this if there's no daylight what do you do oh you just find a big guy in your Serge up behind him in this case dead West is tied in and his line back there five yards down the field you start heading west or was it south it's not for the first down [Applause] nine yards on that play too sharp you know there are plenty of plenty of times in this offense for Green Bay where sterling sharp leaves the huddle and Brett Favre really has no idea where he's going he knows Sterling sharps job find the hole in the defense sit down and he'll find me 3:10 remaining in the first half second down one Chicago leads tenth seven Bennett very close just across the 45 and they've already given the signal for the first down one thing surprising so far in this game has really been then the Chicago Bears have been cut off so so much of their inside pursuit they're a team that can just wear down offenses because they're so relentless from the backside and so far today the Packers running game has taken a long time in some cases going outside but that inside pursuit that Dave Wannstedt stresses so much just has not been there the 46 [Applause] swings it over to Jackie Harris who advances it into Chicago Territory down at the 49 and we've reached the two-minute warning two minutes to go in the first half with Chicago in front 10 7 everybody's probiem 8 p.m. what's the problem Magnavox the only VCR with smart talk remote smart very smart who makes the only TV with a smart sound feature which ensures your volume will stay at normal level even when something like this comes on Magnavox no use shouting Old Man Winter Sports update 69 days to go before Lillehammer and the opening ceremony in yesterday a world record set by Dan Jannsen in the 500 meters we'll have a report on that outstanding effort by Dan Jannsen second down bar fires at the Harris Harris tumbles to the 20 to one of the most impressive things about Brett Favre is his total lack of urgency in these types of situations a young quarterback he's a guy that's got one full season from last year under his belt has had some troubles earlier this year but you know there's no fluster to this guy there's no hurry to this guy and when he's got this guy Jackie Harris had tied in this is a whole different offense [Applause] Thompson for a yard McMichael and Armstrong combined on the tackle Green Bay used a timeout earlier in this quarter so they have two remaining [Applause] agenda philip you're a defensive coach and you're a defensive back as much little stuff as mike holmgren and the packers like to throw those old hitches and little just run out and stop you got to be very aware of kind of a hitch and go that turns into a fade a high lob into the end zone second down nine [Applause] picked off by Lincoln that's the third turnover in Chicago territory intended for Jackie heiress well just when you're saying how remarkably cool and calm Brett Favre is he reminds you how remarkably young he is at times by pegging the old needle on the dumb meter and that's instance where Brett Favre is not going to want to go to the sidelines and explain this to Mike Holmgren first question from Mike Holmgren Brent what were you thinking 17 interceptions now on the season 215 yards passing in the half but Green Bay trails [Applause] loses two yards pop came up quickly so did Sammy Walker okay you're getting a little smattering of boos here at Soldier Field but the last thing the Bears want to do is make a dumb mistake like the Packers have especially in their own territory [Applause] second down 11 they surprised you here all they throw it bounces right off the hands of Robert Greene nobody knocked it down well [Applause] that about sums it up there folks this is a Chicago Bears team that is going to find a way to beat you they're gonna somehow someway the way their defense plays it's almost irrelevant what they do when they have the ball the defense sets up the offense and if the offense can't do it the defense becomes the elephants Anderson Michell Greenbay calls timeout with 11 seconds there is a flag down it's one of those pull downs it could be a facemask on the backside [Applause] with a five-yard facemask on the tackle repeat third down well with 11 seconds to go should Green Bay run it again and our Chicago running again and gets stopped Packers may want to consider taking a timeout and trying for the old free kick off of a fair catch before the head or they're gonna kick her and Kris Jackie that's got the leg to do that type of thing but you know the reason that Jim Harbaugh makes millions of dollars is to come through these kind of down six they do run it green [Applause] a lot of the book all by the Packers with four seconds to go in the half yeah I tell ya my corn was got to be thinking right now don't even don't even put a returned guy back here get eleven guys and go after the kicker you got four seconds left why not go for the block here and try to make something happen cuz Gardocki if he gets it off is gonna pin them well back first they have to measure that's close but didn't get it so Gardocki will punt they will put a returner back well there's a kiss of death kinda like saying those guys never missed a putt like this mr. Brooks back the packers charged with the timeout smart thing here probably bite Gardocki is just kick it out of bounds you get enough hang time on this kick they talked about four seconds being the optimum hang time we've got four seconds left packed Urlacher away get it at half time here because Mike Homer is not known as as a volatile personality but I guarantee he's gonna make an exception this time who's got a lot to scream about Dave Wannstedt it's got a lot to be happy for Gardocki ran over and got a less last-second lesson from Danny a bramblett's with special teams coach hang it up [Applause] passing yards but the three turnovers all committed in Chicago territory two-to-one time of possession - and the one thing Jim Harbaugh has not done is he has not made the mistakes that Brett Favre has granted offense hasn't done anything but you know if you're not making the critical errors turning the ball over down in the other the opponent's territory you're not going to kill yourself Corey Harris - Corey Harris - the 38 Kevin Minnie Phil made the tackle 5 215 yards 17 of 21 of over 80% clip in the first half but you're trailing 10 7 buckles both those interceptions over where a bad case of the Huns you look at that bangin way was thrown you say huh there's the Packers first half possessions here comes green bay moving the football right away in the second half nine yards on that one 11 yards of Elam start no Drive isn't the hard part for Green Bay finishing the drive is what they're having the hardest time with today farm passing offense you expect it to be fairly short pass oriented but not quite this heavy I mean this is the kind of tendency than a good defense should be able to sit on Thompson with McMichael on him down and when you're talking about sitting on an offense it's pretty much making them do what Green Bay hasn't been able to do and that's go go the distance and beat you just with methodical execution Green Bay has moved the ball great and they're throwing the ball short and they're running it fairly effectively but every time it seems they've gotten something good going Mike Holmgren is often specifically is quarterback has done the bonehead mistake second down six [Applause] at the forty and you know Mike Holmgren is watching Brett Favre run with that bad thigh bruise the whole way saying get out of bounds get down get out of bounds get down that'll that'll make a coach get a few gray hairs if it's not as quarterback throwing it into funny places that's his quarterback that's gimping around a little bit deciding he's going to make something happen and go the extra distance for the first down first down at the Chicago 40 [Applause] slipped right out of his hands in the room I fall but whirling in a fumble Jones has it Dante Jones steps over for touchdown Chicago second of the day by the defense [Applause] Dante Jones sometimes you have to pump your team up sometimes you figure it's a big game maybe you don't but right now the Packers are executing at times but at other times they're sleepwalking that was clearly a fumble and everybody on the Packers offense hesitates looking around like when are they gonna blow the whistle guys don't wait for the whistle good heads-up play by Dante Jones how about the Roger Kingdom move at the 10mm back to get them there's an interesting conversation this was the big question though was it a pass did his did the football ever ever go forward in motion but you know what it don't matter now it's about to be a ten point barely balls coming out before that hand goes forward watch Dante Jones he's real slow getting up here a dive grabs that left knee as he goes into the end zone and he's getting help now off the field maiya pull the hamstring of Randy on that hurtling move but what a day he's had the interception that led to the first touchdown when he gave it up to Lincoln who ran it back and this time Jones didn't hand off to anyone he didn't look around for a moment but he laces 32 yards linebackers aren't used to running that far Jim that might have just been a cramp he's mister offense and mr. defense today for Chicago well the MVP of the Chicago Bears right now is definitely Brett Favre [Applause] and the Bears now lead by 10 that by the way started at the Chicago 40 that place four times Green Bay has turned it over in Chicago territory geronimo his name would never be forgotten [Music] Geronimo an American legend rated pg-13 at theaters Friday do you ever look at the other side of your pictures it should say Kodak on the back now you got no Kodak paper back here no Cole watch seal here no seal who knows I asked for jumbo prints but this is ridiculous [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] what a key game this is today the Packers come in tied with Detroit for the lead in the central was Chicago a game back and right now Minnesota holds a lead of six nothing at the Silverdome important from the bear standpoint too because if they lost this game to the Packers not only would they be two games behind it but if they ended up in a tie by seasons in they lose a tiebreaker to the Packers and head to head a little bit of sweet [Applause] oh look at this run back out to the 44 Benefield makes another special teams tackle well it's a nice return but the question is can Brent farm and the Packers stop being the Bears best friend and this is not pressure this is nothing else other than the ball right there you saw as it was going back not forward the ball slips out of Farr's hand it's a fumble there you see nothing but blue jerseys get after the ball little hurdle by Dante that was his last little gas but energy got it in on that and that was his first NFL touchdown long around this time and Wilfred knocks it loose from sharp Dave Wannstedt told us on Friday wolfertz haven't a Pro Bowl season that was a Pro Bowl play right there well this this Bears defense thrives on really emotion and the Packers up until today have thrived in the fact they've moved the ball but they've done the stuff late that has enabled them the winds so far they've done the stuff early that's going to enable them to lose if they keep it up suck it down at ten [Applause] they stick it into the belly of Thompson for two yards hit first by Albert Fontenot that's the old slow draw where they hand the ball around you see Dante Jones on the sideline trying to loosen up that leg he should be carrying the football over there just a you know hit a loosening up at the way at the rate he's been handling today yeah - he said I've accepted the fact I'm going to be the man who replaced Mike Singletary for the rest of my life replacing a Hall of Famer but I don't think that's necessarily true today third down far wide-open area [Applause] at the 33 this is where it becomes all unraveling unraveled for the Packers now we know they can move between the 20s we know they can get it down there but the question is not when they throw the ball they thrown it to the guys and why do they throw at the guys in the other color Percy snow by the way is in for Donte Jones that middle linebacker hey you have 18 to four first down advantage but the Bears almost have as many points as and Packers have first downs get trail by 10 tip Ryan Sun has come out too slowly but surely this this bears defense is starting to take the line of scrimmage back over again especially inside there's a site we haven't seen much this weekend and that's a what is that thing anywhere it's up there what's up there behind the clouds all weekend long folks on the East Coast haven't seen much of that either second down ten [Applause] West then AIDS close to the first down his first sketch how's a nice job by Ed West cuz you know in Paris is a guide receiver type of a tight end ed West is the the stony in the face and blocky and blocky and when he gets that ball down the field he kind of goes like a pickup truck but when you get a pickup truck of that kind of momentum he'll have a chance to get close to a first down six-one 2:45 I love the weights they list around here these days especially Craig a words like to step on that scale will you make you feel good and they're about to chain links short of a first down you can see Dante Jones getting getting that nice lash hamstring taped up down and inches and three tight ends in the lineup for Green Bay but tomorrow has come in joining Harrison West stick Spellman snow and others [Applause] she sees how much confusion that was on the bear defense they're sliding people around there they're moving them back and forth and right before the balls snap there's still people moving there's a big bubble hole over the left guard but that hole gets filled in a second by Percy snow nice fill job from the backside linebacker [Applause] well that's a double win right there the Packers got their first down but I think the Bears made a point guarantee that's hard-earned four inches [Applause] well Dave Wannstedt knows that Mike Holmgren does not have the receiver on the other side from Sterling Sharpe and as a group they don't have the speed to worry about going deep into the end zone don't feel short hook the rudder long track down for a loss of a yard by Joe Kane [Applause] so again Green Bay with 19 first downs versus 4 for Chicago but 4 times Green Bay has turned the football over in Chicago territory there's Percy snow in for Dante Jones [Applause] and there another first down Jacqui Harris it much like you've seen on almost every possession of the Packers just a case of a receiver in this case Harris going out and settling down in that hole in the zone finding the spot and Favre delivering it another dink pass just a little something something to move the chains but the Bears as the field shrinks the Bears have given those passes they'll keep him in front of the end zone and not let him in another first down Steve McMichael in a strange position for him on the sidelines hold on a minute play whistled dead Richard dent offsides he was about to take down Favre defensive guys can get convenient loss of hearing sometimes those well the ball could be snapped number 34 john and paul start you know the Bears defense has allowed only one third quarter touchdown this season and that was in week 1 against the Giants so 10 straight games without allowing a touchdown in the third quarter being put to the chest right now Donte Jones is back in there on defense middle linebacker but the Packers offense once again has managed to make a a dumb mistake if you're the Bears defense you're going to be very aware of this ball being thrown over the middle of the field much like that little dump pass to Harris that Jones intercepted in the first quarter first down at 15 [Applause] almost intercepted again by Shaun Gayle and Lincoln had a diving stab at it right in the same territory as before there is a flag down Randy go against against the Bears first down defensive holding [Applause] Dave once that hasn't had much to scream about as far as things going against him so far today he's gotten much of the brakes and much of the brakes have been given to his bears by this Packer offense midway through the third quarter and Chicago leads 17 7 with a clean slate at downs Jim you got her you got to remember that sterling sharp factor with his strength and his ability to break tackles and get open and take the ball in he is score Green Bay's only touchdown first down handoff to the twelve maybe the eleven McMichael back in there makes the tackle McMichael was pretty intense before the game today wasn't he he darn near had Lesley Visser NFL today jumping out of her skin she comes up throws hi I'd like to ask you a few questions not now not now she turns around goes oh okay he says all I got to say nothing to say I'll kill he screams and she came about six inches off the ground he's thinking kill right now and the kill is thinking and Brett down and nine [Applause] mishandle right across the middle Edgar Bennett had a little bit of an opening to [Applause] and the Vincent Smith the right now getting some attention bad home bears defense is smoking right now the job they're doing against this Packer offense because I think the Packers have figured out we're not going to run it in they have got to throw it in third down third down and nine bar wide open miss Bennett hold on this time they shorted the first tackled at the 8th by Wolford and the Packers will try a field goal that would bring him within seven you got to put these points up on the board still plenty of time left pull within a touchdown Jackie in the first half missed from 36 yards stopping his streak of 26 straight successful field goals inside of 40 excellent job in that last play though by the entire Bears defense you talked about that inside pursuit you talked about their tenacity you saw it on a last play Brian Wagner will hold 26 yard attempt this jackie has it so it's a seven-point game 6:14 remaining third quarter Chicago 1710 I mean Lewis there's no such thing as a B+ mechanic on this airline even the most junior mechanic and keep an airplane in this hangar if there's a hint to the problem you might think a job like this would become routine [Music] I just take a walk through the terminal and right there you see what's important [Music] [Music] Don CBSsports the jeep eagle terminus champion ski series featuring former Olympic medalist and World Cup champions that's coming up next once CBS but right now it's 1710 Chicago third quarter haven't seen a whole lot of that Bears offense how about done time of possession there's only an 18 minute difference between Green Bay and Chicago right now Green Bay is at the ball 20 minutes [Music] ticking the Conway tail into that and Green Bay says Green Bay says Packer football what else would you expect them to sub Dexter McNabb signalling and I think they do have it there isn't room there is a flag down Jim McNab porst it think Keogh Coleman has it it's got to be a block in the back or something Coleman with the recovery Dave Wannstedt has made the point repeatedly as defensive special teams have been the key for him and right now that key puts up with a big turnover deficit McNab came in and just raked across the arms of the rookie Conway and knocked that one loose remember Conway was a quarterback his first couple years at SC wasn't until the last few years he's been a receiver at all so even things like that are relatively new to this young man [Applause] for two in the turnover department [Applause] stopped and dropped for about a three-yard loss rod got there first he smothered there is that bears defense is not going to let them run the ball down in this area they're gonna make them they're gonna make them throw it watch the penetration early in the game the packer line was coming off and controlling the inside not anymore switch Armstrong if they don't throw it they're not scoring he can only kick so many field goals the Bears eventually have to make something happen offensive ly second down 13 out of bounds at the 23 the third and long for the Packers bad combination of getting pressure up in his face and nobody being opened downfield for Brett Favre on that one good job by the Chicago Bears down the field of covering the receivers the deepest receiver on that play was the tight end Jackie Harris so they'll go to four receivers even split and play selection but third down and ten if the packers are going to win this it'll be won by Brett Favre it's quite and getting away touchdown Green Bay 22 yards Favre to Clayton Clayton broke away from Marc carrier and this is the first touchdown allowed by the Bears in the third quarter since the opener and that's the kind of play Mike Holmgren and the Packers have just been begging they could get from the off receiver the other guy besides Sterling Sharpe if they can worry about Clayton and he can get your open more Jackie does it 17 17 all set up by the turnover on the kick return Packers have stored back to tie it Oh taste tests novel that is what made Heineken the number one imported beer in America do you think she'd reconsider stranger things happened she went out with you in the first turn overs the story today Mark Clayton has scored his second touchdown as a member of the Green Bay Packers second of the season that is [Music] 17-7 at one point in this quarter ten unanswered though by the Packers statistically the Packers are just dominating this game but if the Bears do one thing real well that's win ugly they will make you beat yourself there's a flag down offsides against Green Bay so a free run back and they'll turn down the penalty because Robert Green is out of bounds at the 43 some Packers left way too early on that kick we'll certainly turn it down outside decline first down Chicago a name of it a pooch kick a little pooch kick and that's very apropos because that was a dog your third quarter breakdown for you now that doesn't confuse you I don't know what's what's the idea of the game hold onto the ball but you know if you're if you're a Chicago Bear fan the whole the game is to win it doesn't matter how you do it if you have to do it off their mistakes fine and Dave Wannstedt knows he can't rely on the offense to win football games first down Chicago they come out throwing flushed out now lobs it captain's at the 40 and inside of the 30 down to the 28 Keith Jennings from Harbaugh a nice job of adjustment not only by Jim Harbaugh and also by Jennings as this thing breaks down watch Jennings 85 moved with his quarterback you hear that said a lot but that was a good example of 85 moving he saw Harbaugh break the pocket and keep Jennings breaks back the other way towards his quarterback for a big play that's the longest play of the day for Chicago [Applause] 25 prior to this series 27 of the last 30 plays had been run by Green Bay the only three finds by the fares were at the end of the first app and they were just trying to exhaust the clock but the important thing for the for the Chicago Bears right here is they're inside a butler's field goal range they can't get more conservative but what they can do is prevent themselves and make it a mistake here second down seven thirteen he got away from Mitchell and then purge tackle them at the thirteen and this Theriot bee is just a player that maybe on paper doesn't look like much but as Dave Wannstedt says he's just a guy that spun somehow finds a way to make big plays for me and Gary just slumps off Roland Michell he's not a big physical receiver he's not a specimen but if he won't go down you had better wrap him up [Applause] [Music] down of the six Chicago playing now with a noose on offense watch this offensive guard coming out of the backfield we're number 45 offensive guard watch his nose guard coming out of the backfield Ironhead hayward off the left tackle I mean he makes linebackers in that case George crews looked like those speed bumps in a shopping shopping center day he just goes right sucking down and for nothing this time hackers say it up now the ruling at one official pointed to the ground where the efficient were number four for the Bears is pointing to its bought bears ball Worley fumbled it but was he ruled down first [Applause] you know if he was ruled down they would be making such a big deal about who recovered it for the ball of the ball has changed hands two or three times and ends up in the Bears so it was drool the fumble but recovered by Chicago Fontenot Jerry Fontenot I believe recovered it watch this there's the ball it is loose it is on the ground there's Fontenot right at the bottom of the pile Tony Bennett his hands on it for a brief second but fought no flop Dottie [Applause] third down three from the six Anderson the single back [Applause] to the back of the end zone and they'll have to bring out Butler that was intended for Tom Waddell Sammy Walker on the coverage wattles their God and they go to him in pressure situations but Harbaugh wasn't about to put that ball where anybody besides Waddell was gonna have a crack at it this will be a 24 yard attempt Butler is 21 of 27 on the season no such thing as a sure thing here at Soldier Field with a soft field in the wind we made that one look automatic and the Bears are back in front 138 remaining third quarter 22:17 Chicago Zenit by authority of the National Football League and the CBS telecast is intended for the private use of our audience any rebroadcast or other use of this telecast without the express written consent of CBS the Chicago Bears and the National Football League is prohibited this time Brooks was halted at the 28 Ron Cox on the tackle jumps off you think about it both these defense is well known for rushing the passer well known for sacking the quarterback no sack so far today Brett Favre has had excellent protection the mistakes that have been made on the interceptions had nothing to do with pressure Joe Sims has come in replacing Tootie Robbins on the right side at right tackle [Applause] he was looking for Jackie Harris that day the country taking it Jackie Harris having a really busy day incredible day to think now just 18 days ago 18 days 18 17 days surgeries now he's out running that's five catches so far and Liz he's running around and catching the ball seems Sterling Sharpe in the second half he's running for exercise and not for receptions [Applause] I'm looking for sharp [Applause] they loved this guy in Chicago talking about his bearish teammates as well in the locker room on Friday before practicing the mirror yes Jennifer Tavares check out this profile this physique this is it I said let me see the profile is too no that's all right [Applause] [Laughter] very popular though with his teammates 1310 and two bricks but not even close to the first Chris orach along with Maurice Douglas keep them about 60 yards I of the first and for the first time today we'll see Brian Wagner what a nice job by that there is defense great coverage down the field once again the deepest receiver on the football field was Jackie Harris 55 yards down the field the deepest wide receivers Sterling Sharpe at 15 yards that won't do it Wagner one time in his career punted for the Bears [Music] Theriault be on the run back from the 19 up the middle to the 29 [Applause] 48 yard punt 10 yard run back George Dave Wannstedt was really impressed by George's line last week against the Lions where he had 10 tackles set in our system that's hard to do but here's a young man right there that there's a testament to how unimportant a time these scouting combines can be for guys coming out of college because here's a guy that would definitely get spit out by the computer you know they'd say no sorry 76122 85 I put him more closer to 6-foot but he's got one of those he's got one of those batteries one of those motors that's always going sideline to sideline 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter [Applause] [Music] [Applause] chasing the quarterback and did he get back to the line of scrimmage could be the day's first sack well they call it they call it no gain on the play [Applause] and that will be the last play of the third quarter that does count as a sack that is the first of the day you were talking about that earlier Randy at the end of three quarters the Bears 20 the Packers 17 in our coverage will continue after this message from your local station you're watching the NFL on CBS [Music] borders is we're about to start the fourth matching touchdowns in the opening quarter bears led ten seven at halftime then one in front seventeen seven got tied at that figure than a field goal by Butler has Chicago back in front 10 forthe first play of the fourth quarter dartz ahead four six right then quite a game so far hasn't it I mean it's just been a physical football game all the way around a good execution game Brett Favre's made the critical errors but you know if you look at the inside this is where it happens in a barest Packers game watch your kovitch he's being pushed around by Fontenot Bortz he takes that side the nose guard goes one way and the offensive line makes a defense pay in the middle but you know that this is a get get money get bloody get dirty kind of a game upfront the glamor guys get the press but it's these big guys up front they're gonna win it third down and four [Applause] to pick up the first down out to the 50 he saw a little opening he cut back to the middle and jetted for the first four 15 yards one of the reasons you call glamour guys some guys you call glamour guys especially number 92 it nine million dollars a year he qualifies as a glamour gang my million dollars this year this year poor gang look like it might pop free for a second Worley tackled by Butler after a three yard run Minnesota going into the fourth with to reveal goals leading six nothing and Atlanta has moved ahead of Houston two touchdowns in the third quarter [Applause] 17 unanswered by Pittsburgh [Applause] here in 2017 Chicago second at 7:00 scopes the field cuts back but Butler was waiting for him we talk about really little-known players that are having probe all kinds of years butlers that kind of a guys we've got a flag down in the field looks like it's going to be against the pack [Applause] [Music] illegal use of hands to the face mask number 53 of the deep end [Applause] Mike Holmgren sees George Koons get called for that getting the hands up into the face when you gotta when you got that kind of an offensive line like Chicago hands right now with their attitude coming off at you black bankers can almost be excused we can understand why they start pushing it and grabbing anything they can [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well the trying to move the chains it's going to be at first down from the 42 it's not off and you see the chain guys kind of arguing with the officials not one to move those things very apropos sharp should be on the sidelines with a towel over his head he's pretty much been invisible since halftime picks up the football and gets it away into ginnis and they wanted a late hit here at home Wayne Simmonds pushed him out [Applause] could have been disastrous for the Bears nice job by Jim Harbaugh ball comes right up on his top hand and drops straight down the way things have gone today for the Packers if that had been them the Bears would have recovered it watch his push out of bounds that's about three yards that are bad they call that late yep so they did not call it second down and eight and it's Neal Anderson in the middle of field to set up third and about five and we have the update coming your way right now for Brett Gumbel in New York all right Jim in Houston watch Warren Moon under a heavy rush gets it away on target Webster slaughter 25 yards in the touchdown the extra point pulls Houston to within one 1413 Atlanta in the third Jim what a scene that is today with Jerry Glanville going back to the dome where he once coached [Applause] [Music] [Applause] run for it and Anderson doesn't get it rice pop stop them short and they're bringing out Kevin Butler who is career five for five from fifty yards against Green Bay I don't understand not throwing the ball in that situation Neal Anderson up until that down at six carries for 11 yards and the Green Bay Packers were all over the back field of the Chicago Bears on that one this will be a 52-yard draw there you sin against Green Bay never missed over 50 52 yard drive Cutler's kick got it get up oh good so it remains with eleven minutes to go Chicago 20 Green Bay 17 good bye Bud Light well the Bears defense has scored two touchdowns today as the Packers have turned it over in all four times in bear territory far moving in on a career-high passing yardage figure now close Kevin Butler's 52-yard field goal was just a shade short and right this is a situation for a Bears defense their offense isn't doing it they've got to make something happen get a turnover [Applause] it's head on with Shaun Gayle and Percy snow [Music] give me the scene when you're looking at looking into the pits like this you see players get walled off watch McMichael get walled off by hairy Galbreath but the pursuit from the backside we keep talking about that coming from percy snow and Shaun Gayle that's why the tackle can take the inside gap he knows he's got the support behind him second down and seven sharp has not caught a pass in this half there's a plank to west good for a first down near midfield percy snow jeremy lincoln a little shaken on that play they've made the hit at the 48 you know up to this point in this quarter except for the one pass he overthrew to Sterling Sharpe it almost looks like Favre isn't even looking at his favorite wide receiver during these plays is there any team in football that uses the tight-end as effectively as Green Bay maybe Dallas with Jackie here is the rule weapon with Ed West it's a it's a change [Applause] he paid the pressure now falls back into it laterals at the last minute there's a clip they didn't see it I know what you're talking about could have been called on Jackie Harris but no flag and Bennett's out at the 46 tres Armstrong put pressure on Farr who improvised and was able to lateral to Bennett well much like Jim Harbaugh moves around and made things happen Farms done an effective job Armstrong is about to get the sack look at that clip on carrier but by Harris that was blatant but what's going on with Sterling Sharpe where is he that's where he is he's over the middle getting pounded second down five the Joe Kane riding it down along with Gail will be a third and two situation next for Green Bay it's passing offense so far for the Packers Jim seems to be so like an all tight ends when all tight ends deal there they might not all be tight ends but they're all running tight in routes nice short 10 12 yard routes nothing down the field well that's eight eight receptions by the tight ends third down two firing for it and Harris dropped it zipped it right in there and Harris didn't hold on that's the third Packer drop of the day well you can't blame that on rust and inactivity Harris has made some nice catches so far today and Brett Farve put that exactly where it needed to be Harris just couldn't come down with it so the Packers will have to punt with eight minutes to go in this game trailing by a field goal Wagner's punted only once today good snap big high kick high kick that will hit [Applause] and bring it out to the 20 [Applause] Chicago and Green Bay Bears lead by a field goal in the fourth it's the most dependable longest lasting trucks on the road Tots Blackmon wah there's a little fun in every bottle smooth operator wet/dry racers from Panasonic smoother than you're ever thought you'd be and by Pizza Hut any times a great time to stop and smell the pizza well that Bears defense will probably be challenged again here before this game's over Chicago first down for this 20 barbar ducks at the Hayward [Applause] [Music] and a face mask all coming up against Wayne Simmonds [Applause] and the idea here is first downs and time off the clock keep the defense off the field and don't give Brett Farve in the Packer offense too much time when they get it back [Applause] well you got a 325 pounds fullback you can almost understand why you want to grab out anything you can to try to bring him down that's a that is a load and I think that extra tug on the facemask made it one of fifteen yards instead of five it was very little inadvertent about that that was all it was available it was grabbed and it was blatant first out now from the 39 middle through the fourth quarter bears lead 2017 action looking for OB - down at the 13 Theriot be planning to Packers for it that's what we said Jim it might not be pretty but somehow someway oh he finds a way to make plays for his coach Dave Wannstedt in his quarterback Jim Harbaugh this thing could have been fair taught it was hanging up there but oh he was going to be the one to come down with it that was pure want to he just wanted to come down with this a lot worse than Mitchell say this kid can play in the NFL right a great play the Vikings had a look at him he's out of Oregon and he's come up with another big run by Anderson yeah that 48 yard reception a career long for OB who scraped his elbows last week making a diving endzone catch that was a beauty against the Lions like we said he finds a way to do it if he's got to lay out and do it he'll do it if he has to go to a jump ball and outfight somebody he'll do that to update now on Minnesota Detroit still six nothing with 1030 remaining [Applause] ha [Applause] threw it away got a chance to unload it with Matt Brock in his face and that's an example of a quarterback knowing just don't do anything dumb don't throw it somewhere you could have a turnover enable your kicker Kevin Butler to still kick a field goal if you can't punch this thing in and look at Harbaugh's numbers in the second half come back strong 110 yards passing six out of eight but here's a big play form third down and nine with six minutes to go [Applause] three step drop now we'll run with it and only gain of about two [Applause] inside of the 20 but there's offense just like the first time against Green Bay unable to find the endzone so Butler comes back out bottom line Jim though it's not how its how many and right now the Bears have a few more this is a 29 yard field goal attempt Butler makes it 2317 Chicago 5:19 to go in this game it's 23:17 Jim Nantz and Randy cross from Soldier Field the Packers have won three straight three straight wins where they've come from behind in the fourth quarter and that's the assignment right now trailing by six [Applause] [Music] [Applause] kick boy clothes what he was going to pull out a flag and he did was a little double clutch to the back pocket there looked like he wanted to pull the flag out you know you couldn't be any closer to it either make the call at a bad view ball bounced over the top of the pylon that puts it in the end zone for a touchback is part of the part of the goal line so Green Bay will start at the 20 instead of the 35 watch the ball right over the top going for it Willie oh no one more time watch the angle a lot a lot of hesitation but an excellent excellent non-call maybe wanted to though it was just tucking in his shirt think so tend to go with it yeah push the green bag and five sets up the screen to the 35 Barry Galbraith out in front for him this is a situation where you've got a Packers offense it's obviously getting desperate to get it down and score and you've got a Bears defense it really knows this is the money time for a defense I mean this is when they have to smell the blood and go for the kill Brett Favre has now reached a career-high his first ever 300 yard game 27 of 36 311 first down and the Packers come marching back with 420 remaining say what though Jim Dave Wannstedt will let these Packers get 10 12 15 yards at a shot as long as he can keep them in front of them and count on the fact that sooner or later they'll be an error made sterling shark finally rejoins the action today another short hook kind of a hitch route run by a Green Bay receiver well he had been silent in the second half he had a touchdown in the opening quarter today here's a first down play far short drop with the pig head on Clayton got him about three yards that's a tackle there just like they coach the kids start in a minute about ten years old run right through the offensive player Houston has come back to take the lead on Atlanta and that score of local interest still six nothing you saw Minnesota over Detroit it's still Percy snow at middle linebacker instead of Dante Jones at seven [Applause] sure pounds at the 35 with three ten to go that was a 14-yard play as a Danish receiver if you let him get his shoulders turned upfield like that if you can have him turning towards the quarterback you got a shot at hitting them but if you let him turn turn those shoulders towards the goal line you're gonna have to deal with his strength back to sharp [Applause] or they just put the ball in his hands and let him work and he picks up seven or eight just like last week and they drew last drive against Tampa Bay you know he had three catches going into that drive and said he really didn't feel like much of the offense but you see what they do and they've got to get the ball to him he made the point to us yesterday Jim defenses can try to take you away but if Mike Holmgren and this offense wants to get me the ball I'm gonna get the ball second down three ten Green Bay come back in the fourth quarter come from behind for the fourth straight game [Music] [Applause] this time he didn't hold on to it Wolford made contact but a rare drop by Sterling Sharpe was a tough one to handle thrown kind of high and inside almost over Donnell Wolford watch the battle inside and the adjustments Sharpe has to make with his body he wants the ball on his left shoulder comes in on his right he's thinking defensive back and the ball hits him in the chest third down three barb with career numbers and they did not get it Edgar Bennett there's about a half yard shy Armstrong and McMichael men I'm at the 26 I think it's going to get real loud here in this stadium because the Packers have got to go for this Michael one's got to look down at that chart and figure out what is my fourth in about half of the yard yard play I want to run but I'm first I want a timeout so I can think about a little bit longer so that'll leave the Packers with two timeouts to 32 remaining it's very simple Mike Holmgren and Dave Wannstedt know that this play is the ballgame then wide open every time he's done it McMullen brought him back for a moment for one last encouraging word [Applause] fourth down and a full yard 232 remaining and Chicago leads by six but there's need penetration and they need to stay at home back five Fyers hadn't dropped it right in his hands at the 20 [Applause] you get into those pressure situations how do you draw it up get dry it up so your quarterback takes a short roll and you get it to your best receiver because you know he's going to catch it right wrong watch tres Armstrong to shoot upfield fast parry Galbreath gets him down and from the back side comes Richard dent but that play wasn't made by Sterling Sharpe [Applause] that's Anderson for about two yards remember you've got two timeouts left for the Packers and the clock is going to stop at the two-minute warning well they just used their second timeout we'll be right back many receivers any better than Sterling Sharpe Beck he may be the best but he dropped first down catches on second and fourth down on that drive sterling charm I think is the best possession receiver in the game right now and extremely poor timing on his part to not have possession on that critical fourth down play but if you're the Bears here you're thinking first down get a first down you can seal it with two second down complate had it for a moment Ryan wet night a rookie from Stanford Leroy Butler defending another case of very tight physical defense by the Green Bay Packers defensive backfield Harbaugh put that ball right we're only wet and I could get it [Applause] 2:13 so that saves the Packers that time out also [Applause] on the end completion these are two teams that have been living and dying by fourth-quarter last-minute heroics [Applause] but just shy of the first wurly and even that late attempt at pushing the ball forward and won't help either so the two-minute warning and the Packers will get the football back they'll have one timeout in their hip pocket also this one - coming down to the wire Chicago will punt the football with a 23-17 lead the Packers have one timeout and in a situation like this you've got to bring up the Packers inability in his first half on the in the first half of handling the football critical for the Packers to handle this ball after it is kicked that's Robert Brooks at the risk of losing some yards are not getting that extra one or two Brooks must cover this ball [Music] big booming kick fair catch by Brooks all the way back at the 1649 yard boomer by Gardocki [Applause] so the Packers must drive 84 yards with 153 on the clock and if you're Mike home ridden this Packer offense I think you get the ball right back into Sterling sharps hands right away right away he's the guy that brought you here and if he's you're gonna do it another late second finish like this you gotta get at the sharp picked off carrier with open field ahead Jane Crenna touchdown touchdown Chicago three touchdowns by the Bears defense every time that Brett Farve has made anything close to a critical error there's been a Chicago Bear where he should be and they've taken full advantage of it in a game of big plays off big mistakes carrier easily picks this off and fights his way into the end zone and when you make a big mistake you pay a price and here's the price that Brett Favre pays how is Dave Wannstedt and the Bears done it they've done it with defense and they done it the way Dave Wannstedt wants him to do it [Applause] [Music] it's great defense that's Chicago Bears football they've gilded a lot of yardage today the Britt farm but they scored three touchdowns defense [Applause] tackled at the 19 by Maurice Douglas [Applause] [Music] we hear a lot about how defense wins championships but offense puts people in the seats everywhere I think but here in Chicago where if they do indeed get this win as it looks like they're going to and Minnesota can hold on and take out Detroit we got a three-way tie for first place 13 nothing it sure looks like it would be a three-way tie with Minnesota one game back and this man has to be one of two finalists for coach of the year you can't ignore the job Dan Reeves he's done he's another and a great job Don Shula's done Miami [Applause] look at that that's a defensive coach's dream once ads come in here he's turned this defense back around he had the talent to start with he'll get around to the offense but just because this team is winning don't forget Wannstedt does have a rebuilding program here in Chicago next up the offense suckin down one at the 36 this is just a step patting time unless the packers can get the ball down the field eight or ten yard passes are great in the first second and third quarter but in this situation you got to put the ball down the field Butler there Reggie White and this packer team knows they let a big big opportunity slip out of their hands [Applause] that would enough dangerous again intended for Bennett trace Armstrong put pressure on far coming up after the game the NFL today postgame show Greg and Terry will get you caught up on all the scores and highlights from the first set of games today in the NFL action and who'd have thought coming into this game that this would be the the early game offensive showcase real hit early scoring show Cortese would you believe that not much of an offensive showcase unless you count just move the ball and off it's not stored within his green face done too much back across the field there sharp tackle to the 47 backers hurry to the line one timeout remaining for them puts sharp over a hundred yards today but he won't forget that drop catch on that one though under a minute [Applause] then we showed you a standard earlier about takeaways by the Bears in their wins versus their losses how about this now factoring in today 24 takeaways into victories then the 5 loss is only three they do it when they're attacking they do when they're sitting back but the bottom line for them is they do it so what a hit by carrier next Brooks is looking at a football thinking about catching it and the next thing he knows he's on that GD cow on the side of his head right there that is following through that is not hitting to a receiver who that is hitting through a receiver let's load against the group shiver out of the boys got one for big third down ten he's hammer put a first down for the Packers there's the timeout call bot Favre like to thank our crew today it's brought to this game our producer Marc Wolfe this game directed by Mike Arnold our associate producer is Lance Barrow and our broadcast associate is John Coleman's Berger senior producer of the NFL on CBS is Ed Goren and the executive in charge of production is Rick genteel this NFC Central turning into the most exciting race in pro football we're on the brink of having three teams tied with one other one game back and it's a situation where you know these teams play outside this division I think they look pretty good something about playing each other has a tendency to bring out the worst in each other and Dave Wannstedt says you know this is a lot better division that I gave it credit for when I came in here I sort of look used to look down on the Central Division there's a lot of talent here in this division but when you're playing defense like Dave Wannstedt Bears are right now you know it's hard to hard to picture anybody scoring off a lot of points against his defense minute 30 left in the Vikings lead by 13 where that big goose egg tells you something about the effectiveness of the Detroit lion offense without Barry Sanders floor it doesn't toward the back is out by Walford tres Armstrong got a piece of the arm as far bruh least I think he tipped it [Applause] now let's take a look down and what we have coming up next week look at this Chicago is that Tampa guy Dallas at Minnesota Detroit at Phoenix that won't be easy for the Lions team has Favre incomplete talking about this division and how they don't always score a lot of points one thing that's kind of fascinating with McMahon starting at quarterback today for Minnesota there's not one starting quarterback in the division that has thrown more touchdowns than interceptions they've all thrown more interceptions than touchdowns except for one who's 13 and 13 and that's Craig Erickson the guy you'd maybe least expect of Tampa Bay well Brett Favre had a rough first month of the season when he was attacked by defenses but his mistakes today his turnovers and his contribution to the Bears defensive effort has of itself produced and hasn't been pressure it's going to the endzone this time Jacki Harris tips away incomplete Joe Kane got a hand on it now 24 seconds to go [Applause] this Bears team left the field November the 7th [Applause] disheartened after a last-second loss to the Raiders where they gave up ten points in the last couple of minutes they walked away from that game three and five with a daunting three game road trip ahead and now four weeks later four straight wins at San Diego at Kansas City met Detroit and today against Green Bay flag down Clayton stop short at the first John Mangum makes the play but there is a flag down and we can tell you Minnesota Detroit has gone final now the Vikings shutout the Lions 83 was never said any illegal ship that tool is the climb Chicago Minnesota today sacked Rodney Peete seven times Andre where in fact came in late in that game for Pete because Pete was picked off four times take a look at Steve McMichael here's a happy guy when Mike Ditka left Chicago he had to be one of the veterans saying how long will I be here how long will it take to turn this thing around I can tell you defensively the Bears are back well Brett Farve today had a career-high in attempts completions and yardage 36 of 54 401 yards but the defend of the Bears came up with the big plays they took advantage of Favre's turnovers scored three touchdowns on defense fingers now a three-way tie for the lead in the NFC Central we've got the NFL today postgame show coming up next so for Randy cross and Lesley Visser Jim Nantz thanks so long for now from Soldier Field where the Bears have won four straight Greg and Terry are coming up next [Applause] Wendy's is making a new big bacon classic combo it's a quarter pound of fresh bait three strips of bacon and the works with biggie fries and a cold drink so this holiday save your appetite with Terry Bradshaw to our Studios here in New York or reminder sports Sunday comes your way next here on CBS after we begin our recap of what has already been a very busy and amazing day in the National Football League the Chicago Bears gained a share of the top spot in the National Football League's NFC Central Division with a 32:17 victory over the Green Bay Packers let's take you to Soldier Field in Chicago where Lesley Visser is standing by Leslie Gregg that's right it was a big game with bigger stakes and these are two of the stars of the game quarterback Jim Harbaugh and linebacker Donte Jones Dante first to you you don't mind that Jim did first you Dante what about the play with the lateral to Jeremy Lincoln well that's a play we practice every day in practice this was picking the ball up and scooping it and throwing it back to a teammate I've been trying to do it for the past couple weeks and today work perfectly how has they wants that turn your defense around well basically there's a lot more excitement rotating a lot of guys keep everybody fresh and everybody just happened to be playing and finally no winners and games congratulations to you and to you Jim your explosive Spartans funny points today will give a lot of credit to our defense they played a great game and they made some like Pro Bowl caliber plays it out I was loving watching it what about your pastor OB that was pretty terrific yeah I love the way you went up and fought for the ball you know here Mitchell was right there with him and told Terry just out fought him it was great catch well you're both now tied for the division you think you're gonna win the Central Division well we got a three-way tie and we're we go down to Tampa Bay next week and that's what we got to think about just one game at a time great thanks a lot to him back to you Greg all right Leslie so there is now a three-way tie atop the NFC Central with the Detroit Lions Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears each of those teams at 7 and 5 the Bears gaining a share by virtue of their 32:17 victory let's take a look at some of the highlights of this game and we'll begin with Brett Favre being picked off this is Dante Jonah this is the interception left we were just talking about Lera laterals to Jeremy Lincoln then down the side this is a big play once again the turnovers created by the Bears defense greg has been the Bears offense talked about how big those turnovers would be and here's another one Brett Farr fumbles Donte Jones recovers from 32 yards out he will just roll into the end zone and the Bears lead at this point by a score of 17 to 7 but far through for 401 yards today here he is - Marc clay will step up in the pocket out in the flat little hips notice how far off all the quarterbacks were played off gave him the little hitch route nice job by plate making it turn into the outside getting to the end zone because we're still in range late in the game but here's another interception well you're gonna see this a lot with young quarterbacks Greg when they look left then come late down the middle that's where most of your interceptors will come from in the middle of the football field now as we said Brett Farr threw for 401 yards today two touchdowns three interceptions defense as you said at the beginning of this day would be the name of the game the bear defense outscored the Green Bay Packers you know if you go back and just look Bob Slovak told us the other day that the real key to this game was to force the Green Bay Packers to throw the football why you say because the strength of the Bears defense is their defense in that they create turnovers 24 turnovers by the Bears has led the Bears to seven wins I only had five of those turnovers when they had five losses so it's really the aggressive style of their defense matches up well with teams that throw the football if I'm Gerald Jim Harbaugh I take all the defensive guys out to dinner tonight Bonner oh let's get them a mercedes-benz whatever take whatever David wants that moves a little higher in the estimation of those who were looking at Coach of the Year honors the Bears went at 30 to 17 at the Silverdome in Pontiac the Detroit Lions shutout in this the post Barry Sanders era 13 to nothing the final score Wayne font shaking his head Rodney Peete gets sacked for a five-yard loss by Carlos Jenkins where he bit the dust seven times today and now Rodney picked off here by Jack Del Rio notice where this ball is thrown Greg - look at how many Vikings are in the middle of the football field you don't expect this from veteran quarterback but once again in the middle of the interception Rodney under the gun all day long four interceptions seven sacks Henry Thomas and Roy Barker doing the job there and then he's picked off by Lamar Madrid's here yeah just a bad decision held the ball kind of pushed it out and Griggs was out in the flat he was actually more wide open than the receiver was so the Minnesota Vikings with the victory moved their record to six and six on the year thirteen nothing was the final score and the Lions fall into a three-way tie for the top in the NFC Central let's take you out to the silver dome and Verne Lundquist standing by Verne okay Gregg it was a game as you and Terry I've just said that was dominated by the Minnesota defense with those seven sacks and five pass interceptions but in the play a day of big defensive plays there was none bigger than the defensive interception of Lamar Magritte's Burt oh definitely was they they got a little more momentum on us and uh we were saying all Dave the office doesn't pick it up we got to pick up the slack well you picked up the slack you put tremendous pressure on the quarterback all day and and pick them off five times oh yeah but it was tremendous defensive cuz we we were running a little slump these two glass two games and uh we felt we had to come and get this so after you caught the ball Lamar what did you think I was gonna say but I was just thinking that if I score we can because the last two minutes and it'll be over it's over you know and you also had to take over a role because of injuries today did you expect to play as much as you want upon not at all not at all what I heard last week is it was I had no idea it was like a crash course and I just you know stepped up to the challenge in came through for him well it was a very very big play 63-yard touchdown you cinch the victory congratulations thanks a lot Lamar McGregor's and Dan it strikes me here's Minnesota haven't played well in a month they're very much in the thick of things as we head down to the end of the season it was a terrible offensive day for the Lions or a great defensive day for the Vikings I think the numbers won't lie though those seven sacks and five interceptions by the Minnesota defense and that's the reason that they're not out of this race yet thirteen nothing here we'll go back to New York and Greg and Terry Vernon dan thanks very much and with the exception of Tampa Bay no one is out of the race in the innocent so you know and you and you go back and you look at this biking game Greg and and you go right to the defensive coordinators and it's funny how the Barrett coordinator slow ik and and Tony Dungy oh the Vikings both have the same theory and that is the real strength of the Vikings is the fact that they are quick agile people that can rush the passer and Tony said we need to get our offense to get us out and get us the lead and force teams to throw and it met it matches up to our strengths and today you saw that five interceptions of seven sacks that the Lions have and but I would once again be a little cautious if I'm a Viking because even with McMahon who wins again by the way that's all it matters but there is no offense there you know they really don't have that that much off the Detroit Lions have to find themselves a quarterback who are going to who is going to carry the load with Barry Sanders sideline the Vikings win at 13 to nothing in Houston the Oilers are leading the Falcons 32 14 8 minutes 10 seconds to play in the game is the oil win their seventh straight game for the first time since 62 was this Sunday afternoon at the fights well you knew it was going to be an emotional game with Jerry Glanville coming back to the house of pain that he created here's Bobby a bear from six yards out touchdown pass to Andre Rison 50th touchdown catch of his career Falcons led 14 to 6 but here comes Warren Moon I think it's great this is a great matchup any time you have a run-and-shoot team and your team all-out blitz ISM you think that's an advantage for your defense not so against the run and shoot as moon and Webster slaughter show you there this may be the toughest hit of the day the one William fuller puts on a bear miss fuller it's a game with a live bat where the safety actually blitz inside the tackle picked him up and then you saw the pressure on the outside Childress picks up the fumble and he scores the touchdown and then from a yard out Gary Brown scores it is a 32 14 Houston lead you have to say this Houston oiler team is now very much amongst the frontrunners in the AFC well they picked it up and you know when you when you when you think about Houston early we said all the confusion with buddy Ryan's defense but now I think the 46 I think they understand it I think buddy's pull out of the picture a little bit and you're seeing the Houston Oilers run and shoot great defense now and winning football games and as buddy would tell you the offense has stopped turning that ball over they lead at 32 14 now with under eight minutes to play in the as we told you a couple of moments ago at Soldier Field and Chicago the Bears beat the Green Bay Packers 32:17 let's take you back out to Chicago and rejoin Lesley Visser Leslie here with another dissent defensive stand out of the game mark carrier mark you just said to me the Bears win strange how did they win it today well this time we won't we got 30 points but it was much more of a closer dogfight than they looked and the score shows because these guys are very good team they were fighting hard yeah big interception and helps seal the game at the end tell us about it well it's just one we're in our basic defense where I can drive on the ball or a ton of guy runs the score I can drive on it I don't get too many of it he far over Thor and now they talk about getting to the endzone follow your blockages I always like to cut back I just follow rich and I thought I had just dull fit to the endzone pretty impressive well this team has won four games in a row now how much better are you than you were a month ago well we're a lot better because we're more comfortable with our coaching staff more comfort with our game plan more comfortable each other what we're doing and I think that the three weeks on the road just really brought us together as a team congratulations thank you Mark back to you all right Leslie thank you them the big difference in the Chicago Bears this is a team that is now very confident is it not that's right and just defense Greg you look at them you don't have to look any further than their defense and the turnovers there's no secret to what they're doing they're getting after people they're creating confusion they're getting the turnovers in this offense hasn't does not have the ability the ability to drive the link to the fifth of their defense takes it upon themselves to play defense and create offense for themselves consider this they win three games on the road and come back and beat a Green Bay team that has come from behind each of the last three weeks a timeout here and more scores and highlights coming your way little fade route bottom you screen Michael Jackson big tall receiver out leaves the corner eight yard TD reception weed Wilson comes back to tie the game for New Orleans pick to the inside now notice martin84 goes to the outside he's wide open good job one of the few bright things that happened today for the Saints but on third and five that man's defense answered the call here's Wade Wilson setting up you know you don't have nine sacks and then Vinny Testaverde came on in the second quarter he left the game later with a little tightness in his shoulder Todd Phil Cox finished up but Michael Jackson two touchdown catches today the Cleveland Browns even their record for the season at six and six now and make things a little bit tighter in that AFC Central Division they beat the New Orleans Saints by a score of 17 to 13 the Saints are now seven and four the Houston Oilers leaders in the AFC Central leading the Atlanta Falcons 32 14 there are now less than five and a half minutes to play in the Astrodome with the Oilers after win number seven in a row it would be their first seven game winning streak since 1962 in the NFC Central the Detroit Lions fell at home today to the Minnesota Vikings 13 nothing was the final there and the Chicago Bears are pulled into a three-way tie for the lead along with the Packers and the Lions they beat Green Bay today by a score of 32 17 Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh the Steelers beat the New England Patriots today 17 to 14 the Steelers are now 7 and 5 on the year Bill Parcells looking on here's blue blood sower
