hi everybody this is agnesa from no sediment and today let's explore my top 10 wines from wine Spectators top 100 of 2023 but the list was not perfect so I will be also sharing my disappointments wine spectator is one of the most influential wine Publications every year their wine critics and writers taste hundreds of wines and the editor is choose the top 100 based on excitement quality availability and value even though I follow more closely other Publications such as decer and world of Fine Wine magazines seeing the majority of the top 10 wines selling out within just hours after their reveal made me want to take a closer look at the list and I decided to create my own top 10 or let's call it my top 10 excitements of the list unfortunately I also realized that some of the decisions were not completely clear to me so I will also be sharing my three disappointments and be sure to come back next week as I will be reacting and tasting top 10 wines of the wine Spectators top 100 list in no particular order first one on my top 10 list is mro berardino tazi radich Reserva 2016 I'm so happy to see a lesser known grape Alano in the spotlight indeed nebiolo and sanza grapes have enjoyed their moments of glory and I believe it is time to explore what else Italy has to offer Alano like previously mentioned nebiolo and sanza grapes produce age-worthy wines with depth of flavors high levels of tenants and juicy acidity it is often referred as the nebiolo or Baro of the South but I don't like that Alano deserves to be recognized as grape on its own and it shouldn't be compared with other wines it produces rich and full bodied wines Deep In Color Master beradino is one of those producers who has helped to pave the way for this great variety and definitely deserves the recognition next wine babit s Blanc Malboro W Black Label 2022 babich was one of those producers through which I was introduced to New Zealand so on Blanc style you could say I was spoiled from the beginning their wines are not a simple blow of arom attics in the glass but rather show an inviting bouquet of freshly cut grass crushed lime black currant brunch and touch of smokiness this also translates on the palette as the nervin or tension helps to guide the fruit through your palette I know that many wine writers and professionals tend to turn their back on the style but I would like to invite everybody to give it a try and here it says $15 per bottle wow I mean where I live it cost cost closer to €25 next Boda garon alvarinho Uruguay Reserva 2022 I am so incredibly happy to see alvarinho on the list and more so happy to see Uruguay there are so many exciting things happening in the Uruguayan wine scene their premium alberino wines are worth trying especially if you are someone who loves alberino from Spain or Portugal bodaon alberino by the way is considered Uruguay's Benchmark by many professionals and is worth seeking out I am also very interested to see how it develops with age in the bottle because alberino is one of those white grape varieties that can stand test of time I just have never experimented leaving Uruguayan Wines in my Sellar for years Taylor flat gate Tony Port 20y old could this be right there is only one fortified wine on the list in a wine world where people are more and more focusing on alcohol percentage and sugar amount fortified wines including port wines are struggling personally I love this category and when it comes to Tony ports with age indication 20-year-old Port is where I like to start therefore this is quite perfect even though this is not by any means an easy drinking and Light wine the rich blue and often heavy fruit flavors of Ruby ports here are replaced by toasted nuts caramelized blood orange and dried figs for me a 20-year-old Tony shows both fruit and age in one step a perfect wine to start your meal with and finish it antinori Marque antinori kianti Classico Reserva 2020 I recently visited antinori estate in kianti Classico and it was my pleasure of tasting their Kean selection in quite unique atmosphere including the very same wine and the Vantage it's actually not a huge surprise for me that this wine was so well received the fruit is sourced from the tinello estate for kianti Classico purists the additions of cabern FR and Mero might be bothering but for me this wine showed itself very well in the glass here are few words I wrote down the palette is really firm yet elegant it is a refined wine it shows blood orange red fruits cherries and Cabernet Fran is adding complexity and the aroma death definitely worth on being top 100 but did you notice that there were several kti classicos and sanesa was actually quite well represented the next wine is palos cavino barolo 2019 this is one of those wineries whose wines I will constantly have in my wine fridge so this wine naturally ends up on my lip list and how could I not list at least one nebiolo that would be betrayal from my part Palos cavino is located in cast Leona fetto and they were one of the first wineries to start bottling single Vineyard baros and they use both small and large Oak barrels for maturing their wines therefore I guess they have followed somewhat more modernist approach however enrio cavino doesn't like to use new Oak barrels and this specific wine is Blended from several of their Vineyards old oak barrels small and large are used and it shows Savory fruit character forest floor and notes of fresh truffles that I love so much next Chateau de pleason Anu Blanc Ron 2021 I was especially happy to see this wine on the list for several reasons first I think anju is an upand cominging region and we all must pay attention to it or we might just miss those beautiful wines it produces second I believe shanon Blan is an often forgotten white grape variety that somehow has never received the same recognition as reing not that reing has received the recognition it deserves thirdly it has been my pleasure to work with the girl behind chatau de Pleasant Vanessa on a different project and she is the most kind and bubbly person you will ever meet and definitely deserves all the recognition for those of you who associate anzu with semisweet wines this one is completely dry and it is made from one of the best teras in anju quam Gru from old wines and this wine shows depth of flavor yellow apple preserved lemon and white blossom next one alpha estate sovon Blanc Florina 2022 another so Blanc on my list I guess old love dies hard because so Blan used to be my favorite white grape variety Alpha estate is wellestablished and recognized Winery from Greece and this specific wine is made from sovon blang Source from high altitude in Aion wine region it is vibrant zesty and provides inviting Aroma profile and I truly believe that Greece as a wine making country takes all the boxes that we discussed at the beginning value excitement availability and quality and this is where my first disappointment comes in Greece is Rich with many exciting indigenous grape varieties surely that over 12 month period the wine spectator team have tasted many of these wines so why not choose one of the local grapes embrace the diversity the very same Alpha estate produces wines from actico and xinomavro both by the way very well received in the International and local wine challenges Jorge oron moscatel sieres de Malaga bani old wines 2022 this is Spain's gem coming from old wines of Muscat of Alexandria located at high altitudes in Malaga The Vineyards are North oriented which for me is quite interesting and I think we might hear more about those in the future while Muscat is often Associated more with sweet wine or fortified wine production this one is completely dry this project was actually done to reintroduce the nonfortified wine style of Malaga by Jorge ordones and ker family ker is a legend from Austria better known for his sweet luscious wine production and this only makes this project more exciting imagine inviting Sweet Tangerine nose and Orange Blossom and refreshingly dry palette absolutely gorgeous and the final wine kler Chardonnay Russian River Valley Wine Hill Vineyard 2020 I could not finish this list without at least one wine from United States after all there are 29 wines from states in the top H 100 100 only followed by Italy with 24 this might be one of the most expensive wines on my top 10 list but then again we are in California this beautifully highlights what I said in my previous video Californian chardonay are not only oy big and opulent wines and kler Chardonnay shows the freshness and purity of fruit but it also shows the concentration and intensity one would expect from these wines there's also a vein of salty minerality in this wine kler is definitely a winery to follow so I already mentioned one of my disappointments and here are my two other I found only one Austrian wine on the list and it was reasing dare I say safe or kind of boring Choice it was Prager a well recognized and loved producer that definitely deserves to be here but they also produce absolutely stunning gruner cleaner wines that are worth all the hype while I would never say no to a glass of praga resling fed Spiel I would have loved to see the recognition of the greatest white gra Variety in Austria gruner Val ler and my last disappointment disappointment number three only one champagne and the same is rosé at the very bottom of the list from the house miraval I wonder did I really not get to taste some great Champagnes over the year I do not buy it for one second I think that lesser known grapes and less recognized wine making regions are important to include in lists like this but Classics are Classics for a reason and maybe smaller producers or more a affordable Champagnes should also make the list thank you for watching and being with me through all this time let me know in the comments which are your favorite wines from the wine Spectators top 100 or maybe you don't even follow it perhaps you have different wine Publications that you trust and follow and here is the video where I am reacting and tasting the actual top 10 wines from wine Spectators top [Applause] 100 [Music] [Applause] oh
