so today we're going to try to get this old 70 model opal up and running she's been sudden for just about 30 31 years so hopefully we can get her running i ain't even checked underneath the hood yet we just drug these in oh well the hood's on but i'm surprised i didn't fly open on the highway let me set you guys here for a second there we go we got it all opened up and as you can see we got the smallest little engine i've ever seen made by gm so i guess gm made opal i don't know i've never owned one of these little cars i bet you i could put the suitcase in a duffel bag that thing's not big at all well i guess we'll check the air cleaner now because we normally get the rat nest and the air cleaner on these old cars so i'd expect there to be a rat in here at least let's see here moment of truth well i mean there's a little bit of a rat like ladybugs maybe awfully oily carburetors don't seem too dirty down in there don't look too bad that's bolted on like it probably should be are the carburetor stuck well no no they might be stuck yeah they're little they're a little sticky is she stuck well the water pump ain't but the belt ain't hooked up uh well i guess i better give you all a walk around i forget that most times because i get too excited about getting it running but we got every bit of a 70 model opal here not too bad rusty no dead bodies in the trunk i did look in the trunk because it kept popping open but we did have an air cleaner in there which kind of worried me about the thing not wanting to fire up i figured they'd already took the motor apart or something because we got an extra air cleaner here this is a dadgum polyglass tire holy cow custom belt right there is the factory spare for this old car that's pretty cool there's some chains i guess they drove her in the snow is this a piece of glass yeah there's some glass though a bag a bunch of bags a whole bunch of water there's another coil which is not a good sign there's the fuel tank i believe that is yes that is the fuel tank and there's a hubcap to a pontiac i believe in there so at least there ain't a whole bunch of parts back there but there is a cool so maybe someone tried to get it running or they couldn't get it running when they got that cool about 30 years ago well that door's stuck so we'll go around to the driver's side because i know it opens see what we got over here smells like black mold and rat urine golly let's see here what gear we in put her down in neutral here we got 81 682 miles not too bad a lot of mold in here a lot of mold cracked up steering wheel probably wouldn't want to close the door while you're on the inside other than that interior's pretty nice dash has a few cracks in it but it is poly that poly stuff what ever you call it urethane it's a urethane dash glove box full of money oh where's the owner's manual i believe there's a automobile parts oh there's the key holy cow we're in business now that's got to be a first access i hope that's the key to this thing well someone throw the ignition out of it so maybe maybe that's the ignition they might not have been as lucky as i was on finding the key yeah they done screwed the ignition up so this don't do us no good throw it back in there what else we got in there owner's manual a bunch of papers let's just dig all this out of here lay that there for now just dig all of this out of here there we go guess we'll just lay this on the roof so we got to smell all that mold and stuff there's some facial tissue 15 two ply tissues a door pass cover up the name here 79 first bank and trust any money in oh well then that's folding's probably personal information won't show that georgetown auto parts georgetown square aaa emergency service directory but here's this bad boy doesn't say some more papers here motorcycle out of print out of print a rolled up piece of paper nothing real arkansas louisiana mississippi road map from uh 76 is when this bad boy came out a receipt cover up the people's names let me move around here to get you a date this is for this car if 1980. first napa gold hat motorist club 79 oh that's personal information we don't need to be showing that so other than that there's not a whole lot of interesting things in the glove box at least we found the key but it won't be doing us no good because someone done tried to get it running without the key so i guess the next step around here is the where's the spark plug there's a spark plugs we got one two three four cylinders and i guess i'll get a wrench down there on that crankshaft little bolt down there and see if she'll turn over or where's the battery go there's the there's the battery right there there ain't much left of the battery terminal so we'll drag a battery over here hook her up and see what she'll do maybe we can get the starter work instead of having to mess with that putting a wrench on that crankshaft because it might break the bolt off because she looks pretty rusty down well some done screwed up our sparkle later wires there we go there's the positive it ain't caught on fire yet that's always a good sign let's reach her down here with a universal key and see if we're even getting juice down there no do not seem to be good in the juices maybe because the battery terminals are all jacked up oh there we go did something right there we go oh we're in gear the engine does turn okay me not being good enough to figure out how to get her out of gear apparently there we go that's neutral we were kind of stuck in gear there now let's try this well i got to go around the other side let's see here if she turns over we're in business well crap [Music] oh oh that just sounds don't look too bad i'm thinking this is before i make myself look goofy let's check here no she does have points in her i figured in 70 models she'd have points they're not yeah they're what the crap okay so the cool is always hot either the key how they've toured off or they're somehow on or you just don't shut this car off until you pull the battery terminal off and that might be why i'm so beat up so i guess we'll since the points ain't sparking to themself yeah they're too corroded to spark the cool is good i know that so we'll undo the battery get some sandpaper sand them up a little and get the points where they're clicking back and forth and so i'll grab some plug wires these are probably nine miles too long for it but also grab the wd-40 and some 220 and 400 grit sandpaper and we're going to try to clean these points up but first of all i better spray this linkage down with some wd-40 and spray the exhaust manifold too so it gets hot and catches on fire spray that and all that and i don't know what all you're supposed to spray on these i guess this is the actual linkage spray that and all that that's in plastic it don't matter spray down in there there we go get them all nice and sprayed up and maybe now they're they're pretty solid yeah no there we go no they're they're good that is surprising opens road up [Music] i guess that's the choke linkage i was messing with instead of the throttle but that's fine come down here with i guess this 220 grit tear a piece off and clean them points up once we get these clean we should be able to get some sparkage well if i can even stand on them this may be a harder endeavor than i thought it would be to get down here and sand these points this may take a minute the back one went on no problem front one just don't want to go now there we go we're in business now next thing to do is we'll throw these plugs back in here one at a time or not so we got that optimal battery on here and we're gonna see if we can get her to fire off let me put some gas down the carburetor real quick put a little bit there and a little bit there and oh no we're just leaking it everywhere now there we go stick this line back up here and i guess we're gonna see what she'll do wow seems it don't want to start see what we get now huh that gummit huh out of gas now but it's acting funny try her again now so i've been cranking it over a little bit more and all i managed to do is burning off all my arm hair from the back firing but i think i found the problem this is either on top dead center on the compression stroke where it's supposed to fire or the exhaust and if you look over here the caps about 180 out around there so i'm going to change all these wires around and see what we get probably change them around and hopefully that'll keep it from firing back to the valve somehow the distributor has gotten off really far i guess that may be why they parked it because the firing order is exactly how it's supposed to be on the wire well the firing order diagram that comes in the owner's manual so i'm gonna fix that and get back with you so now that i got all them switched around hopefully that's how they're supposed to be i don't see why it would have been off from just sitting around they could have somehow got it off on the firing order and that might be why it was parked so we're gonna put some fuel down on the carburetors through our little handy-dandy fuel line here a little gravity fed dude it may or may not fire off i thought it was everything from the valves which i think this intake valve was stuck open so we're just gonna give it a crank with the old universal start well key let's see here come on this battery cable's giving me fits there we go maybe not there we go come on well let's try her again whoa hopefully we got that on camera while we're burning the world down it'll quit burning here in a minute maybe get our fuel where it ain't just pouring down there on us take the ball to put it down here so we ain't burning the world down seems she wants to catch on far sometimes you gotta use one of your shirts there we go got that put out see if we're still burning the grass yeah the grass is burning pretty vigorously we got to put out let that smoke clear so after we just about set the whole world on fire we're trying to pour gas out of the fuel system up there into the carburetors i hooked that up into the fuel pump and if the fuel pump will pick up she should run off of that but just in case we have some wheel and tire cleaner that now has gasoline in it and sprays pretty well gets a good mist so hopefully we can keep her running for a minute for that fuel pump to pick up and maybe once the fuel pump picks up we'll see if we can drive her around if the fuel pump even works so come down here and jump across the solenoid not oh we almost had her come on come on uh you're a good healthy amount maybe there we go we got her running now come on pick up fuel pump we let her die hey we can keep it running well oh that's not tight enough might be why floated her out there we go come on maybe i'm giving her too much fuel too much fuel i guess there we go now she's running sometimes he's just it's too easy to float out okay there we go now she's running come on stay running come on we're wasting a lot more field than we're getting in the car bridge but she's running pick up your pump don't look like the fuel pump's gonna hook we'll pick up we're gonna try to just straight soften it from the deal into the carburetors and i have it hooked up where it's just straight softening out of the fuel cell into here i have it in the small jug just in case the line does catch on fire and we're gonna see if it'll basically gravity feed itself into these carburetors or if not okay she's running but she ain't picking up yet at least she runs well she runs we know that it doesn't look like the fuel pump or gravity feeding it's going to work out for us at least we didn't burn it down earlier we did get her running after 41 years but she don't want to drive maybe the next one we get running will drive as you can see we got a lot of choices here of what to get running next what do you think we should get running next we got a diamond tee and a whole bunch of other cars also 25 more that we're going to be bringing in and trying to get running so we got plenty of content coming in guys ways thank you for watching if
