hey guys welcome back today i will be sharing my homeschool schedule which is not really a schedule at all i've been contemplating whether i want to do this video or not because i feel like it would kind of be pointless but then i also felt like maybe it would be encouraging so you guys could know it's okay to not have a schedule now we do have a routine kind of but we don't follow a time by time schedule what bro what are you talking about man it's a little back story i used to be very type a but the lord is breaking me free from that let me put my mug down my husband my husband's like why do you always hold your mug in your hand throughout the whole video and it's like i never really know this but anyway we don't follow a time by time schedule um i used to be very type a and why was i like that it i used to be so stressed out you guys i mean it was like nine o'clock we are starting at nine and we are finishing by 12 o'clock that was just like ideal for me and that was it and uh sometimes my kids would be playing having fun doing their own thing or i had like household things to do and everything just had to stop so we can homeschool by nine and it just caused a lot of stress and i had to really it took a while for me to really break free from that um school at home and i'm just talking about times just feeling like school has to start at a certain time as i grow more as a homeschool mom i'm realizing things that just don't work for us that may work for other people some of you guys may love having a scheduled time getting things done checking it off and going on about your day for us it just didn't work out and i also didn't like the fact of limiting school to certain hours i wanted learning to happen all the time and i thought how can i make this happen and for me it it took for me to step away from using curriculum as like an all in all and just really um using it as a guide and a safety net and making it my own instead of just following directions on how to use it so that was one part of it we are very relaxed homeschoolers very chill unschoolish very childlike learning but i'm also very serious about building strong foundation skills and subjects like math reading and writing so i hope that makes sense to you guys i'm going to paint a picture of what a day would typically look like for us but keep in mind that this is just like a typical day it's really not even like every day every day changes for us different seasons call for different things one day we may do morning basket and one day we may not one day we may start at nine next day twelve next day five o'clock it's just it's that's just how we do it so typically we start at nine but that don't always happen one day we may start at nine next day twelve next day five o'clock it's just it's that's just how we do it so typically we start at nine but that don't always happen at nine we'll do our morning basket will then split up for introduce individual subjects where i will work with uh jolie my three-year-old and her reading writing whatever she's doing and then my son will be off doing his own little basket and i'll do a video on that and then they'll switch out so that's what a typical day is like for us and that takes about with morning basket and me working with them individually that takes about two hours altogether but the learning does not stop there we still learn throughout the day if my children have questions about things i'm finding resources principles documentaries we are still learning throughout the day and that is what i wanted and just not worrying about a time by time schedule really helps that for me because again i was very type in so for me that's what i had to do to kind of break free from being very controlling when it came to scheduling um we started at nine and ended by twelve that kind of just in my mind didn't give me the space to really kind of feed their interests it was like okay nine to twelve when you do a math science reading spelling whatever it is we have no room for extra stuff so just kind of changing my mindset on not following it time by time gives me the freedom and peace in my mind that it's okay to not go with things how i planned it or how i think it should go and really just considering what they want to learn about i really hope i'm making sense i'm basically being more attentional about getting them involved and homeschooling and serving them instead of like vice versa where i have this plan and this and this schedule of how i want things done so i'm kind of balancing it where it's like okay this is important to cover you know i want you to learn how to read and write math but i also want to uh feed your interest so what are what is it that you want to learn about so it's kind of like making those two together now for some of you guys you may already do that maybe like a given like yeah but for me it wasn't because i had like this control and fear like man if we don't get these core subjects done within these hours then like i'm screwing my kids up they're not going to learn how to read write our math i kind of felt pressured and all that now it's just very more so relaxed like okay if we don't start by nine it's okay if we don't open up a curriculum book it's okay we are still learning and just being flexible in our uh in our days and our days are so much more purposeful just diving into books having discussion uh telling silly stories uh it it's it's i can't really put it into words or re-explain it but it's just beautiful for us say my son want to learn about animals horses or anything like that then i'm finding resources and we're diving into that one thing i do have to say is that if you're going to go that route then you got to have like resources on hand and things like that and you know be creative with how you're going to tie in their learning um with that interest for me that's like my natural thing to do is actually was kind of overwhelming just using one curriculum book and kind of boring i just was like oh my gosh like is this the only way we can do language arts again because my children are young and they're still learning to read and write and spell i do have that time set aside where we are doing our core subjects um and i do that when my one year old is napping so i typically like to bring him the nap at nine and that's when we would dive into our core but sometimes if my kids are playing or doing that their own thing i don't like to interrupt that like how i used to do when i felt we had to start at a certain time i don't like to interrupt that anymore so i just let them do whatever they want and sometimes it may be that we start at five o'clock um homeschooling sometimes we have play dates i live in a building filled with other beautiful family so go out and we have fun sometimes we go on morning walks every day for us really looks different so i hope that i made sense to you guys and i hope you just feel okay with not having a time by time schedule know that a lot of us take on school at home in some sort uh whether it may not be with curriculum but it can be with this just mindset of okay school has to be three hours a day or five hours a day or six hours a day and it has to be done in the morning you can totally home school at night time that will work for you you can homeschool on the weekends if you want it's just about getting out of that box of just limited school my children very much so homeschool on the week because they just now have a natural love for learning so my son will pick up a book and do work like a whole word book on his own hey do your thing um that's just how they are i was just learning all the time around here just diving into books and answering questions and things like that so i am very much pleased because that is always what i wanted and i never knew how to get that it's like man i want my kids to ask me things i want them to be curious and and uh want to know how to do things and really get that going and that and that didn't happen until i learned to push curriculum on the back burner i realized that my son used to think that okay home school is the only time that we learn and he is still young but i didn't want him to get in the habit of just like okay school's over that's it when i grew up and i was in school i mean you go to school and you go home my mom or didn't have like a desk for me to do work uh you know sub a little study area for me um so i didn't have like a natural love for learning and figuring out things and i want that for my children i always tell people listen home school is not for everybody and i don't think that every mom can homeschool or it's a bad thing if they don't but i always encourage moms to always set up a little learning area or just a environment of learning inside of their home because you just don't want your kids to get in the mindset of just doing work at home and this is why a lot of kids struggle with doing homework and completing a site assignment and writing essays because it's like everything just stops at school like i said when i grew up i didn't have no type of environment or setup to get me going so yeah i struggled a lot because it was like okay school's over i'm going to watch tv i want to play my game i want to chill and what i realized and i'm happy that i realized early on was that if i want my children to have a natural love for learning i have to set up a like natural rich learning environment which is like having books everywhere let them know okay this is your question boom let's dive in a book to research that let's watch the documentary um and it could be about anything it doesn't have to be like about earth or solar system i mean my daughter could want to learn how like tutus are made who created colors why does it get dark outside these are all questions that chil you know children act throughout the day and it's like sometimes we give them these little answers because we don't see it as important but what i'm doing now i'm focusing on that like okay boom that's what you said we're gonna dive into that so that's how i created just a natural love for learning and now they're just getting in a habit very young of just wanting to know how things work and if they have a question wanted an answer and find out books on why like my son wants to learn about horses and he went to our home library and he found books and he just kept flipping the page until he said i found that horses if he couldn't read it he bought it to me just stuff like that and and he's retaining like they're retaining the stuff guys enjoyed this video i really hope i made sense and i will see you guys next time
