we're gonna review season one episode four of the chosen it's all about fishy miracles peter recognizing yeshua is the long-awaited messiah it's amazing we're both elders in a messianic congregation i'm sam this is dr tom welcome to graph hard to port this way go left the 10th roman legion's the one of the famous roman legions who destroyed the temple in 70 a.d most of the ones stationed according to josephus in israel were actually made up of syrians and arabs meaning that they were middle easterners right if we will they weren't all italians and so i don't i doubt that they were all walking around wearing their capes and they're i mean maybe they were but that's not really the sort of garb that would be comfortable yeah in the middle east yeah in the middle east right so they would have been more you know used to the the uh geography and climate and that's why they would station them there because they were able to acclimate and be effective soldiers right not just you know like white italians or something super interesting yeah the italians were probably the commanders but your average foot soldier guy was the people made up of the different uh roman empire that had joined them which makes sense when you just think about it right oh yeah they know the land they would know how to find water in the desert they would know how to camp and what kind of wood was good for cooking and you know just all those little sort of things like don't don't send out an italian guy in a middle eastern desert and say survive i want you to remember this simon said this is kindness this is one of those critiques they have chosen yeah where i think casting they they might have got this part wrong because i don't think his voice was like mean enough you know [Applause] the roman soldier soldier it was like soft spoken you know i was like and you you shouldn't have done that now he's got one part right come on don't be too hard on him i'm sorry he's got a he's got a 35 second you know no i mean it could have been like that i mean that's honestly it's probably more authentic because not everybody has the like not everyone's rough roman voice right you know right so it could have been more accurate because ollie he had the sword and that's all you really need and it is kind of ironic that peter of course gets his ear you see what they're doing there right to know you can be a disciple and be married you know it's like we have paul single guy and peter very guy you know there you go you got to get both sides as we'll see you know yeshua heals his mother-in-law he obviously cared about peter's relationships you know so it wasn't like he was taking him away from his wife and saying you know come follow me and forsake your wife and your family like like to their detriment or something you know so i don't know what are your thoughts no idea i'm swimming in the sea of speculation right now okay all by myself what are you talking about did you run all the way from jerusalem we're saved we're saved we're saved i saw him with my own eyes oh it was incredu who did you see the lamb of god he who takes away the sin of the world simon where's them by the jordan and john the baptizer pointed at the man who's walking simon are you listening yeah yeah you're just not saying anything i saw the messiah today the men all of us including you have remember that's the first time my kids jumped out of his sandals creepy john pointed at someone but they this was great set up you know like hitting the bottom of the bottom of the low here and then he's like this is the one we've been praying for this is the one we've been expecting this is right out of john 1 john sees yeshua coming he says behold the lamb of god it takes away the sin of the world and then later in verse 35 the next day john was standing there with judah's disciples and he sees jesus and he says look it's god's lamp later in verse 40 says one of the two who heard john speak and follow jesus was andrew simon peter's brother so he was there you know so like this is an accurate portrayal right you know andrew would have been there seeing that and probably was elated and it's a really long run from the jordan river to capernaum how like i mean how long like what do you think miles oh no like a couple days oh my gosh i didn't know i don't know well it depends where i get it depends where john was exactly why did you run all the way from jerusalem i mean that's why they probably said that it's a long it was a long run but it's funny they're showing that i don't know what's more miraculous this isn't a good question but like we were a fan of good making fish appear out of nowhere that's just as impossible as a hand growing out it's just unreal i love watching jesus watching his face like light up like oh yeah you know like let's change let's change a life right now it's so beautiful multiple layer like it's yeah exactly for simon but then it's matthew too right they're using this to like bring matthew in and then the people on the shore and then john yeah exactly yeah even the idea of the miraculous happening it's not just for the view which is why testifying testimony telling the story is so important yeah you get healed you get saved you get delivered what do you do you testify i mean that's something that scripture teaches us all over the place right remember don't forget recount the deeds how marvelous are your deeds i just heard randy clark saying if we don't testify we're stealing the lord's glory so there's that thing where we when we experience the lord and especially the miraculous but i think even just yeah the power of gods like we must testify the other thing that's making me think of is that the suffering that we all experience because you know simon has been suffering in that sense under the oppression of rome and tech you know unjust we're talking about justice it was unjust you know what's been happening and yet the suffering is what follows it is the glory so here it is the suffering leads then comes the glory we have to give him uh the honor do his name the story could go another way sound could be simon could be like yeah i got a huge fashion huge catch of fish right right look how good of a fisherman i am right right and i think people do that all the time right the lord's blessing them he's saving them he rescues them and they don't give him the glory yeah and they're like look at me right and the answer is that's wrong yeah it's evil yeah exactly and it steals the glory of the lord and he and he says i think it's in isaiah i am the lord and i will share my glory with no other [Music] you are the lamb of god yes i am depart from me i am a sinful man you don't know who i am the things i've done don't be afraid simon i'm sorry we've waited for you for so long we believe but my faith how sorry lift up your head fishermen [Music] why do you also anything you ask i will do follow me [Music] yeah that's the right answer that's just so good when he gets out of the boat falls down at his feet right and he says i'm nothing right you know and then he says lift up your head you know yeah like the whole scene is like this is such a depiction of us coming to the lord right and our heart posture they just did it i mean that just shows you what it should be like i'm nothing right and i meant to mention earlier about the the lamb of god in ancient jewish you know perspectives there are different things but one of them the the lamb was also like this warrior so it's like coming and conquering even wow um so it's there's multiple layers to the lamb mask actually so they keep repeating this lamb i don't know it's because of their deep dive into extra biblical jewish literature but when you look in the book of revelation although it's talking about the return of the lord the lamb entry is what is used the most one of the main themes of the book of revelation is follow the lamb wherever he goes yeah [Music] so you sure you don't want to do this just a few more times oh we'll make a great team on a boat son [Music] fish are nothing you have much bigger things ahead of you simon son of jonah they're walking away and he's like hey let's go all right let's go have a few more fish yeah like we could make a lot of money right that needs to die mm-hmm that's actually yeah not the plan that's right so let's that's that part's gotta die because we're actually gonna do something else exactly jesus is like no i'm gonna make you a fisher of men fish don't matter anymore so you see simon's salvation moment yeah on his knees and then immediately the sanctification process begins again and his flesh has to be crucified right let's just get more fish let's do it my way so then now he's beginning this whole process that we're all on right of crucifying our flesh daily crucifying our own desires unto what growing and gathering the family exactly did you understand that parable i told earlier from now on i will make you fishers of men you are together as many as possible all kinds i will sort them out later this parable he's saying that you know he'll he'll divide up the fish and in the end he'll divide right right the the good fish from the evil fish right he will go filter the fish right see i didn't remember that's i remember the punchline i remember the jokes that's actually not the joke it is now it is it's a unique taste is it the same thing as saint peter's fish is it no no okay it's like fish sausage yeah it's like a mixture of white fish and did you know carp is kosher no yeah it's a bottom feeder but it has uh fins and scales skins and fails skins and fails some say it's a demon but that's not what we say cast those out doctorate of ministry not a demon oh right thank you very much i did get some deliverance in my studies though a bad theology yeah
