and kept bumping into Greg stump and he kept just hammering me about being in his films and all's I'd seen was you know Maltese Flamingo and time-waster snowman and I just said Greg it doesn't really seem like a good fit for me so just you know yeah I mean you you respectfully pass Greg's like I want you in this movie and you're like thanks but no things that's what has a lot of people surprised to hear that well you know it's just yeah wasn't my style you know is he had a bunch of mogul skiers in the film and I didn't know how I was gonna fit in with those guys you know and but then Greg got explained to me how he was going to Germany he was gonna spend most the winner there that's a good opportunity was that the tipping point that's what made blizzard of aahhhs a reality for you exactly I you know I thought I was gonna be another wacky kind of weird film and you know but we're going to sham so why tie in 1988 I had a decent budget by that I think I had about 80 grand to work on this movie so I call up Scott Schmidt cold call tell me man I've got this budget we're going to Germany and I'd love to have you come along and he was like sure we were so excited we were gonna get the film the great scotch man talk about the experience the guida Mindy and being in Xiamen II and the humbling factor of oh yeah that that's an experience that every skier needs to enjoy I mean that's that's the the cradle of elfin ISM and the real deal I'd had already spent a whole winter living in Verbier and had a taste of shamon II so I knew what I was getting into but I wanted to see more of it yeah polar opposite to that maybe can you reflect a little bit on on Glen Flakes experience when he dropping him off in this situation like that well you know we didn't start out with Glen we started out with Lynn Weiland yeah and she immediately gets hurt and then we need another character and it worked out it's weird because when people watch blizzard of Oz they feel that that's so intentional because you have someone like you and you have someone like Glen and you can't get more opposite than that I mean you had there was a good amount of like friction but in a good way it seemed like throughout the film with you guys did it worked it was the odd couple and Greg gets the credit for being the genius behind that but it just kind of happened and be even before the blizzard was released Gumbel deals like we got to get these guys on camera okay if you thought skiing was skiing and there was a certain sameness to it all I suggest you buckle your breakfast seatbelt because what we're about to show you is something called extreme skiing
