Why read the Bible in Advent? How to pray it?

hey everybody one last uh little video here so a friend of mine asked you know father dave how come like how will what's the plan for reading the bible like every day during evan like how how does that actually help me and a good ques it's a good question and a question to also ask like so like briefly how do catholics pray the bible so i have here my uh ham radio uh setup this is a great little portable radio i have it hooked up to 20 meters some of you know what that is all about if you ever listen to short rave radio if you're not a ham radio think of something like that all right so here i got a tune to uh 14 253 and if i turn up the volume you don't hear anything right as soon as i tune it down to different frequency so there's a guy there's a guy calling okay there's a guy talking and people are going to be calling him from all over the world [Music] he's trying to make contact with people out there right you hear that they're calling into him you can hear some of the static but he's coming in right there on 14 250 all right so if i am at 14 255 i can't hear anything but if i want to actually make communication with that guy i have to go to where he's broadcasting and tune into that and then i could have a conversation with him right here we could call him up and he could talk to me and i could talk to him wherever he is in the world i think he's in puerto rico uh and i'm here in uh where we have southwestern pennsylvania and we could have a conversation so let me just go back up here if i'm at fourteen two five five i got nothing but static because i'm not tuned in correctly all right father dave that's a good little thing there on radio how does that help us with praying the bible all right so god has decided to come to us through the sacraments that's why we go to mass right do this in memory of me he also decided to come to us through the word of god and so when we're and he comes to us through others and we can't tell him what frequency to come to us on we have to be open to the frequency that he has chosen to come and that's part of the mystery of christmas god chose to come my phone going my phone's going off right now god because it's turned on god chose to come to us as one of us it's amazing and nobody expected it they were tuned into a different frequency they were listening waiting to try to hear god come as like the glorious destroyer of the romans and he decided to come as a little baby and so the question and why we read the scripture helps you answer this question is who is god of your life is it god or there's a you if god is the god of your life then in obedience what you and i do is we turn to the frequency if god is the god of our life of your life and mind then we tune to his frequency and we're open to the ways that he wishes to talk to us right and so like you would send a text message and that's what i just got there a buddy of mine is texting me and we're open to god's text message and so you prove that because on christmas jesus comes and there's going to be no room for him in the end because people are not tuned in to receiving him are you going to be tuned in and receiving him well you can prove that by praying the scripture every single day and what do you get for the result of this for 24 you know days praying luke's gospel well what you get is a character you mean a character you get the kind of you you kind of mark your soul you become the kind of person who is open to the way that god wants to come to you here right and this should move you to be open to god who comes to you in the sacrament and then jesus who comes to you and others and you're showing that god is in charge of your life not you you are open to whatever he wants and he wants to come to the scriptures as the bible you know as he tells us right jesus when you hear the scripture you hear you'll hear jesus thinking in categories of of the scripture as he talks about elijah and he talks about the prophets well he knew them because he heard the scripture over and over again and you also get 24 individual messages 24 private conversations with god and briefly how catholics read pray the bible not just study the bible how we pray the bible is when you read it every day just be open to any kind of word or phrase or image that kind of jumps at you right if some as you're reading it you're just reading it with your cup of coffee your hot apple cider whatever you know your tea your glass of wine if your name is diane who knows right but when you're reading the scripture if a word or phrase or image kind of moves or shakes or kind of like hits you then you stop right there you talk to god about that lord why did you why did you make that come out you know like jesus may have healed the blind man and when the blind man's talking to jesus jesus says what do you you know what do you want from me and he says lord i want to see well maybe that part that says lord you know what jesus says what do you want from me maybe he's saying that to you right maybe jesus is fasting and you're like man i haven't fasted in a while or what do i need to give up you just start talking to god about the part that seems almost like it's bold print or kind of moves or kind of impacts you a little bit you talk to them about that when that conversation is done then go back and finish the chapter something will ring out to you but the long game like if we were mr miyagi like you know daniela roose was like why do i want to learn karate why am i like painting the fence and waxing the floor and and or watching was he watching the floor whatever he's doing wax on wax off why am i doing all that and then mr maggie attacks him and he shows them hey you're being formed in something you don't even know right now and when you and i are open to the way that god wants to come to us we take on the character of a disciple and we give a different answer than what jesus and mary and joseph find in the inn you know when he comes to his people and and they don't want to receive them may that never be true for you you and i always be tuned in to all the ways he wishes to come to us god bless you
