I have formulated a better calculation on how many people are actively playing City skylines 2 and it's not good we also look at beach properties and how it has become the worst thing on Steam ever and it begs the question what causes a sequel to lose nearly all of its players and even once a major patch its first DLC and even the highly anticipated arrival of mods has come still sees players refuse to turn mostly I report on Steam Workshop active players both daily and presently but this data is a little skewed in actively seeking out how many players are actually engaged in City skylines 2 but the Steam Workshop daily numbers are great because you can compare them to City skylines 1 and this helps tell the narrative that City skylines 1 is still way more successful than CS2 but before we get into my theory and calculation of total Act engaged CS2 Players let's have a comprehensive look at how the numbers are fairing since I made this video 93% of players gone which was at the 3mon Mark now this video is a step forward in time to the first DLC and the mods launch firstly here is the CS2 slide from its peak of 10 14,692 to 9,230 in April almost 6 months later on the weekend when mods and the patch was released CS2 hit a high of 9453 players at any one time the monthly player breakdown for CS 2 is a sea of red with the sequel losing another 16.4% of active Peak players while the decline isn't as sharp as November and December which is often seen after a game's initial release anyway but it's still not good and in this graph you can see some modest overall Improvement especially during the weekdays but when compared to CS 1 which on average has 55% more people playing cs1 over CS2 on a 24-hour Peak analytic we can see there is a huge problem for CS2 numbers and it's important to note that CS2 has sold as much as 1.5 million copies on Steam alone but it's also really hard to get numbers for Game Pass however based on reviews left for the game on Game Pass there is only 1.9k reviews this indicates a really small number of players on Steam there has been left 51,000 reviews left that's not a lot either for a 1.5 million copies sold so once again the steam data is not a good indication some people like to leave reviews elsewhere so it's hard to know if there are more people on Game Pass or not maybe it's close to 10K but Microsoft is never transparent on their game pass numbers and Paradox won't release them so I need to look to another place to try and find more more reliable data on where I can find out the real active engaged play count to be I want to make a quick point that beach properties the first DLC asset pack not a true expansion by the way has seen some horrendous scores on Steam but has there been worse here is a list of the top 10 worst games that all received overom League negative on the scheme review score with war of the Three Kingdoms and OverWatch 2 in the first two places so beach properties is the worst with a 4.76 positive rating compared to the number one game War of the Three Kingdoms sitting still with a 10% positive rating that is a new low for colossal order and Paradox and basically gaming in general but I do note that there are some games with worse scores but this list is only referring to a plus to AAA titles of which city skylines is one so back to City skylines one and these are the live numbers and for the last week for one month and for one year but over City skylines 1's lifespan we are going to need to find the date of the first city skylines 1 DLC and compare it to beach properties after dark which mind you was a proper expansion released on the 24th of September 2015 CS won the base game on the 11th of March 2015 which is 6 months so both after dark and beach properties had the same time from base game to the first DLC Paradox must have been hounding Co to hurry up and get some DLC ready it had already been 6 months so cs1 fell after release by 70% which is nothing compared to CS 2's fall of 93% but by first DLC cs1 Rose to 16,21 14 active players which is much better than CS 2's 9.2k on the first DLC weekend but naturally CS one fell again after the DLC was released to 11,289 players 2 months later and in February 2016 cs1 shot up to 27,600 . 35% increase in March or 524 players returning but if you look at the Active monthly players for cs1 it has always been somewhat healthier compared to CS2 so where can we possibly find how many players are actively engaged in CS2 as a total number the best place to look is paradox mods within CS2 because my theory is is that CS2 and Paradox mods is so easy and integrated ated with the base game now that why would any active player not flick on a mod or even at least just a single mod I cannot see any reason why a single player would want to continue playing CS2 vanilla when there are mods within the base game UI to flick on so easily so if we just take a look at the top ranking mods which after 12 days of mods release we can see that unified icon library has 117.8 K subscribers or downloads let's take benefit of the doubt and say there is another 5% of still highly active CS2 players but staying vanilla so let's add that 5% that gives us 123,50 actively engaged CS2 players but let's also give CS2 another weekend or two and say that that number for the mod is pushed up to 13,000 subscribers so let's go with that 130,000 active players for a nice clean round number I think this is a true reflection of the number of people invested right now in CS2 and if we go back to the number of copies sold on Steam alone which is upward of 1.5 million copies that is only 8.67% of players that have purchased City skylines 2 that are still actively engaged in playing remember this has a 5% Factor built in of people not choosing mods but staying CS to vanilla so let me know your thoughts is 8% of an active engaged player base enough when mods are out and a big patch has dropped is it enough to support a game for a decade on there is 1.4 million CS 2 players out there either waiting moved on or upholding their morals and refusing to give Paradox another dime or a second of their time so if mods can't get players back into CS2 does that tell you something that there might be something else fundamentally wrong with CS2 is it the lack of assets is it the vibe of the game is it the company's handling and attitude is it the boredom of basically playing a zoning simulator is it that there are just better games to play like still cs1 I will be watching closely about paradox's handling of their next biggest Sim Prison Architect and see if they've learned any lessons so let me know what you think about all of this and is 8.67 a truer reflection than the steam numbers let me know what you think thanks for watching watching
