Mirek might be a powerful seven thousand year old dragon ball and a formidable adversary but he's also a bit of an idiot from pledging eternal service to a Daedric prince to refusing the help of other lords in his rebellion it's abundantly clear that Marik isn't the most intelligent of antagonists firstly there's the issue of the dragon war as the player will know from the main quest in Skyrim thousands of years ago humanity rebelled against the rule of the Dragons and their dragon feasts the dragon priests who had been delegated power by the dragons and ruled effectively as Kings how to become corrupted and made slaves of the rest of the population this led to leaders such as hawk on one eye felder the old and form lathe golden Hills to lead of the bellying against the dragon priests and the Dragons themselves Marik was alive around the time of this rebellion and in fact he refused to participate in it and instead decided to launch his own smaller rebellion against the Dragons of course even for a dragon born Marik was no match for dozens of dragons and hordes of track and feasts so his temple was raised and he was almost killed in a duel with Valek the jailor a human dragon feast it seems idiotic that Marik would be arrogant enough to refuse the help of the human race in his rebellion Hakan won I merely asked him to help kill owl Derwin in return for their support no doubt Marik made his decision to have his own rebellion because he sought power and most of all if he had Danes to enter a pact with the other lords he would be constrained unable to fully assert his dominance because he hadn't been the one to chiefly orchestrate the rebellion against the Dragons hence why he decided he would be better off managing his own rebellion but even if this was the case Marik's logic is stupid and paradoxical he decided to have his own rebellion because he wanted to maintain absolute control but whilst doing this he pledged himself to serve hermaeus mora only a fool would pledge themselves to the service of a Daedric prince even if they're granted powerful or of the ward such as the bend will shout which the Daedric prince gave to me rock there are countless cases in the older scrolls of people being betrayed by fickle Daedric princes and someone like me rock should know better than to bargain with someone as sinister as Emmaus Mora whilst hermaeus mora might have saved me acnes jewel with VALIC by pulling him into Apocrypha in return me rock was effectively imprisoned in the Daedric princes realm this led him to try and amass enough power to escape the velm hence why he steals dragon souls from the Dragonborn skyrim and starts to extend his reach across sole ston maroc could have avoided that whole situation if he had swallowed his pride and decided to fight alongside the other nordic heroes he wouldn't have needed hermaeus mora's promise of power and thus he wouldn't have been bound to his service then there's also the fact that murica peers to be quite dumb for an Elder Scrolls antagonist because his plan is simply to try and acquire as much power as he can for himself by comparison de Gotha earned more wind was convinced that he was doing the right thing he thought by creating a hive mind through the corpses disease he could bring about world peace this is more an issue with Bethesda's characterization more than anything else but to be honest I'd say Marik is quite disappointing because his motives are so simple compared to some other antagonists then there's the fact that he sends a handful of weak cultists to murder the last dragon born if he's even heard of the last dragon born by that point then he must know how powerful they are so why even bother sending some thugs armed with daggers to kill him it seems sort of pointless though is the chance that the cultists tried to kill the dragon born of their own accord they do mention that they want to give your heart to Marik when he returns but either way Marik is a buffoon for allowing such dumb people to serve under him another points brought up by the reddit user cheesy fish 3 is that one earth doesn't MARAC instantly kill the Dragonborn the moment they first enter Apocrypha when the player first travels to the demonic realm of hermaeus mora they're disoriented and weak and yet America doesn't lift a thing to try and kill you even though he says that absorbing your soul would greatly help him escape a POC refer by granting him immense power although he might simply have not killed the Dragonborn because he's arrogant and wanted a challenge when he returned to Tamriel it sort of feels like lazy writing from Bethesda's parts to me thank you for watching this video if you want to see more videos and elder scrolls geniuses and idiots then please do
