I would much rather be making a cooking video right now and sharing that with you that's what I've been doing on a YouTube for the last six years that's what I love to do that's what I'm comfortable doing I'm not really comfortable sharing personal stuff I don't think I've ever shared super personal things on YouTube but most of you know that Brother screen is officially over Josh and I decided to end brothers green together and I'll be taking over the channel and I feel like I owe you an explanation this has been a long time coming for me a lot has changed over the last few years I've been dealing with a lot of change over the last few years leading to this point so one I want to fill you in on what I've been going through I also want to let you know what's coming cuz there's a lot of exciting changes coming to this channel and I want you prepped and geared up for everything coming but it didn't make sense to just crunch everything into one video I didn't want to rush this so what I'm gonna do is break this down into a five-part miniseries so over the next five days I'm gonna be releasing one video every single day talking about what I've been going through a lot of the changes hopefully providing you with some tools for dealing with change and transition and also you know telling you about what's coming and preparing you for that so let's get into this I wanted to start this off where most of you started which is with the foundation of brothers green oh you know at some point do a full history of my my past and how I got into cooking but it made sense to start here and for some of you maybe that has been a week maybe you subscribed a week ago and this doesn't mean much to you or maybe you've been on this journey for the full six years of YouTube whoever you are thank you so much for being a part of this journey it's been incredible for myself and you know I don't regret a thing I loved working with Josh and we always had the same goal which was just to inspire people to overcome their fears the kitchen you know develop a stronger cooking practice so you can really see what cooking can do for your life how it can change your life and I think we succeeded we inspired thousands of people and hopefully some of you are those people that have been inspired you've learned how to cook through brothers green and now you're a badass in the kitchen when I came to New York I was 21 that was a young kid and a lot of things have changed over the last eight years and that's you know that's part of life and that's what I've been learning over the last few years is understanding change dealing with change change sucks change is hard to deal with but it's constant if you're a human being believe me it's coming for you or maybe it's happening right now and that's what I've been dealing with and that's what I'm gonna fill you in on so I never intended on working with Josh that was never a dream of mine same for Josh I don't think he ever intended to work with me at the time I was in college developing a really strong passion for cooking I was cooking for my friends I started doing some catering in college and in my hometown and Josh was in New York pursuing a life as a musician he was in a band and he actually started cooking on the side to supplement you know his broke-ass musician lifestyle and at the time Josh and I were really developing a strong bond we weren't always friends growing up we you know we fought a lot classic brother stuff but we were really a lot closer at the time so when I got out of college I was just looking for something fresh I wanted to take my cooking talents elsewhere I was kind of tired of just the hometown struggles and all that stuff so Josh was cooking and you know he said come up to New York and we'll make this work together and you know he had a good Network up there and I trusted him and it felt right to move in and we started cooking together pretty much taking any type of gig in those early days you know from catering private dinner parties to catering business events to a few weddings really anything we could get and it was all to supplement our our lifestyle we were both creative people Josh you know pursuing his career as a musician and for me I always intended on having a cooking show those were my true dreams I liked catering I liked cooking for people but that wasn't really my passion I wanted to share my knowledge of cooking I wanted to teach people how to cook I wanted to share my creativity with people that's what I really was passionate about that's what I was excited about so the catering was always to just supplement that so while we were catering we were also filming some things on the side a filmmaker moved into our apartment and we started just filming you know our lifestyle Josh and I were cooking together so it made sense to just film it it was a it was a fun dynamic but we didn't really know what we were doing and finally one day you know I was tired of just filming stuff I wanted to actually put out a show so I went up on the roof with my friend Adam who was a filmmaker and I had a big rooftop garden in Williamsburg and we just started filming a cooking show we didn't really know what we were doing but you know I knew I wanted a cooking show and Josh was actually up there you know playing some guitar and he came in on the the filming and it was really interesting because Adam caught this very unique dynamic between us and of course that was happening in real life you know our brotherly dynamic but to catch it on camera was very special and I think in that moment we realized oh there is definitely something here we can you know we can continue on with this and I think at the time for me although I dreamed of having my own cooking show I just don't think I was ready I think the universe wanted something else which was to bring Josh and I together and that's exactly what happened once we figured out that this this could work this this brother dynamic that's when we created brothers green and we started our eight year journey filming together so for the first year we put out a series called Eun work which was on Vimeo before you know hits mattered and views and it was awesome we filmed about 12 episodes it was more our lifestyle kind of packaged in in a very creative unique way and then we got picked up by the first official YouTube cooking show called hungry this was at the time where Google was trying to make YouTube a little more official and they were giving out a ton of money to production companies and we filmed three seasons with the hungry Channel a lot of you know those midnight machi days and that show was a ton of fun to make big production but also just getting used to the world of YouTube but the hungry Channel ran out of funding so we didn't really have a plan at that time we were we were on our own we were looking for other shows to pick up brothers green but we had all of these fans from the hungry channel commenting below if you're one of those initial fans from years ago so we decided to start our own YouTube channel and that's how we started we brought over those initial fans so that was the beginning of brothers green needs YouTube channel we didn't really know what we were doing at that time but we were putting out a ton of cooking content and growing that channel and then we got picked up by MTV I think around a year later and we did two seasons filming for MTV that took us all around the world we cooked for a bunch of celebrities and that was a blast and that whole time we were still keeping up content on the YouTube channel we were filming on the road in hotel rooms we felt that it was important to still you know keep the integrity of the channel but once MTV ended we couldn't really compete with the the Jersey Shore's of the world that's when we got really serious about YouTube and I think that's really when we started to to hone in on our brand which was kind of like the first college cooking show for Josh and I we learned how to cook in college so it made sense to take people on that journey because there hadn't been too much available within that type of world before YouTube you know food network and all that stuff was fancy kitchens and expensive gadgets and all these things and that wasn't realistic for what we had seen so we just went all in on the munchies on the simple dishes the five ingredient dishes and really started growing a big audience of a lot of you who were inspired by just simple creative food that could start you off on your cooking journey so that was going really well for years brothers Green was growing we were having a lot of success we were inspiring a lot of people and it was so fun to be in a creative collaboration that was working there's nothing better than you know creating with another person and really being on the same page it's it's a beautiful thing because you can break out of just what you're bringing to the table and now you have this other person to bounce ideas with and that's what brothers green was formed on it was Josh and I are our differences our similarities just really pushing the creative boundaries together in the food space on YouTube and that was great for years but what happened was a few years ago we started exploring our own interest for me I was breaking a bit away from from those early days that that initial brothers green brand of the the simple food the you know the munchies all of that stuff it wasn't feeling authentic to me and the the great thing was Josh and I gave each other space on the channel to explore our own interests so a lot of you have seen that over the last few years where we've been doing our own videos for me you know the the initial stuff was fermentation videos I was getting really into fermentation at the time and I started doing you know creative and entertaining fermentation videos and they started doing really well just solo videos and those videos for me were so fun to create because that's what I was interested at the time I was you know developing into a new space in the food world and my own journey and that's what I was inspired to share so you know I don't know about Josh I think it was it was similar that at the time as well but as we kept doing our own videos and exploring our own interest we just continued to lose creative collaborations so what really made brothers green dynamic and fun when we were together when we were entertaining when we were teaching people how to cook and bouncing ideas off each other that just continued to fade away fade away over time and that was really hard to deal with at the time because for me brothers green was my identity you know I got into this when I was 21 years old and although I had my own dreams of a cooking show at the time once brothers green started out that was that was everything that was my career that was my success brothers green represented so much to me and like any relationship you start developing a lot of attachments that are hard to break so when things start feeling weird and you know they they don't feel in lines something's kind of brewing under the surface it's it's tough to understand you know I had put so much effort into brothers green and developing this and I thought it was gonna just continue on forever there were definitely times where I thought this was you know my career working with Josh was everything but then all of a sudden you know years later I'm not feeling inspired I'm not feeling like we're growing so I had to start dealing with those feelings and for me I'm not the type of guy that pushes those feelings away I don't think you can really grow as a person and you know get to that next level and continue to be inspired if you're not dealing with that stuff so even though for me that was really tough to understand I I knew I had to dive deep into it and start exploring what was going on under the surface so I remember around two years ago I was on a walk with my wife and I was I was telling her about everything that was coming up the lack of motivation the confusion with brothers Greene and I had a key realization during that walk which is that I came into New York you know this this confident guy with his own dreams his own you know dreams to share his passion and once brothers Greene started those dreams just kind of got squashed now all that confidence went into brothers green which is totally fine that happened you know my identity went into brothers green but the key factor was remembering that that person existed so even though I had lost sight of that person I I finally had remembered that that person was alive because you know two years ago I might have had zero confidence in myself so it was really a rebuilding process and that was not easy but high I knew I had to to start attacking it and you know I'm gonna be talking about ways to overcome big changes like this when you're you're feeling sad or you're you're not feeling motivated you're confused there's gonna be a whole video on that but you know for me I was I was reading a lot of books that helped me out in the journey I was trying a lot of new things I took so many meetings with people I had so many ideas that I felt were right at the time that but didn't work out but the key was that I was getting out there and I was I was attempting to make a change in my life because I knew I didn't want to just continue on the the journey of brothers green if it didn't feel right at the time so as I was rebuilding I took some space away from YouTube I wasn't really inspired to put out content for a while I created a course on sourdough bread I came out with a production company and filmed travel cooking show pilot I was really just looking for answers and the whole process was was tough I was failing a lot things weren't really working out but I kept pushing through and I kept being vulnerable I think that's really important in the process to not show up as someone who wants to project to the world that you know you have everything together for me I didn't have everything together I was lacking confidence that I usually had I was lacking motivation I was lacking you know a direct drive that I had with brothers green and it's so important to show up as yourself because no one's gonna be able to help you if you don't show up as yourself you need to be honest so people can help you honestly if you just want to project that you've got everything together it's gonna be tough for you to really get through to the next stage so for me that was such an important part of the process was just being vulnerable you know expressing how I felt even if I went into a meeting and I said yeah listen I don't really know what's going on I'm trying to figure this out that was really hard for me but that was important and over time you know I had a lot of these fails but there were also little wins little wins that were upping my confidence from that from that zero percent just slowly building myself up over time getting a little more confident a lot of my you know my solo videos were doing well and I think it was the sandwich series that really put me over the edge where I you know produced directed created this series completely by myself put it on the channel and a lot of people liked it and it did really well and I loved doing it and that was like such a massive moment because I was looking for things outside of YouTube I think I was trying to take the easy road out of oh you know maybe I'll get picked up by another show and you know that will just be an easy way out of brothers green boom it's over like that but I think that was the easy road and when I started producing the sandwich series and putting that out that's when I realized that you know this right here this is what I love to do create content YouTube create for all of you you've supported me for years and just because I you know was with Josh that doesn't mean you couldn't support what I was doing on my own so producing that sandwich series really being able to creatively do whatever I want on YouTube and have such a good time doing it and have success with that series that was a massive win for me and I think that's really what pushed me over the line and made me understand that right here on YouTube this is this is where I want to be this is you know what I love doing sharing content for you and at the time I was producing a another show for YouTube that will be produced in this next iteration that's coming up I'll talk about that soon but I did all the branding for this show and I was going to start a new YouTube channel and again Josh and I we weren't quite sure what to do with the channel we you know we had talked about just ending it at times there was no clear answers for a while and again I was walking with my wife and she mentioned she was like why don't you you know take over the channel and at first I laughed at her you know I didn't take it seriously because it didn't make any sense how could I take over the channel this was you know brother's green but the seed was planted and I started thinking about it and it started to make more and more sense because there was no reason to start over when you know all of you have been following along for so many years and haven't enjoyed a lot of my videos on my own and at the time you know I can't speak for Josh but you know from what we've talked about he was starting to break away from the cooking videos as well and explore his own interest and music and lifestyle so you know I think he was feeling distant from the channel as well I think my passions were aligning more with what we've done just within you know pure food videos with just creating food content so I got you know the idea in my head that this could actually work and Josh is away on a trip in Spain and I called him up and at that point I felt pretty confident that this made sense and right when I told him you know it was just he knew it was just that there was a complete mutual it's like a mutual breakup he just knew that it wasn't right and he knew that this was the answer because we didn't want to get rid of the channel you know it didn't make sense we built this thing over time so I'm so happy that we were able to come to that decision and you know I can continue to of course inspire you guys so that's what's gonna be happening I'm gonna be taking over the channel and rebranding the channel because it doesn't make sense to move forward with brothers green brothers Green is over and I understand that's probably very hard for a lot of you but just know that you know this next iteration is going to be much more aligned to myself and I feel more aligned to you know my passions and where I want to go then I have in years which is very exciting for me I'm so excited for the future of this channel and the content that I'm ready to create and share with you and just remember it's not going to be some dramatic change I'm not starting a beauty channel you know I love creating food content I always have loved creating food content and that's gonna be the gist of what's going on there's just gonna be a few changes which we'll get into later this week but first before we get into that I wanted to talk more about how I overcame a lot of the changes because change is really hard again this stuff doesn't happen overnight it's it's not you know I'm in this job and then I get another job and everything's good you've got to deal with a lot of things under the surface and I've learned a lot of tools over the last two years of dealing with this that I'm really excited to share with you so that's what we're gonna cover in tomorrow's video so I'll see you soon for that hopefully this cleared up a lot of things remember if you have any questions comment in below I'll try to get to those or save them for the live talk on the last video which will be you know recorded and kept on YouTube for as well of course if you're not inspired by myself or what I've done in the past of my work I totally understand if you don't want to continue on following the channel but you know I'm very excited for the future of everything and I think that's it thank you very much for listening and I will see you tomorrow in tomorrow's video
