PK in the universe and I am back again with another video and today I'm here to talk about the PlayStation 3 and at the end of the video I'm actually going to talk about a feature that I feel like nobody talks about in regards to the PS3 and it makes a lot of sense why nobody talks about this very cool feature but I'm going to yeah I'm going to go into farther detail about that later in the video so definitely stay tuned for that part of it but anyways I want to talk about the PlayStation 3 is it still worth getting a PS3 I mean people can just emulate sure but you know the PS3 is still very affordable the games are still very affordable and I think a lot of retro Gamers definitely should get a PS3 but there's some drawbacks too it's not all rainbows and butterflies the PS3 is not the end all Beall system but you know what it's very underrated and underappreciated so I'm going to get into why I think people should buy a PS3 in 2024 so here we go so this year I actually picked up a PS3 I had not had a PS3 in like two years because both of the PS3s I had just didn't work anymore and I had a bunch of PS3 games and I'm like man I missed playing the PS3 so I grabbed one and I bet your guys are thinking oh you got the game Brave that's pretty sweet man did you play a lot of Brave well I didn't personally but my son actually did and he had an absolute blast with the game surprisingly well he's seven years old so yeah this game's like a very cheap Zelda kind of game you know you can you know swing a sword shoot a bow and arrow you know it's just you know it's like but it's much much easier and he beat it pretty quickly I mean he beat it in a few hours so yeah it's a very chill game I was surprised actually for a licensed game how decently it played so you never know you can't judge a book by its license or its cover but uh yeah I got a nice little section of games there you know I mean I thought it was a great value it's 75 bucks what I love about the PS3 is it has an extensive game library and some of these games you just can't find anywhere else a lot of these games never came to PS4 or PS5 another thing that's great about the PS3 is it's backwards compatible now there's two kinds of backwards compatibility with the PS3 there's the ones that are all backwards compatible with the PS1 and then there's some that are backwards compatible with the PS2 now some of the PS3s that are backwards compatible with ps2's one version of it uses actual like it basically internally has a PS2 built into it and the other one uses emulation the one that uses emulation seems to be more reliable in fact I used to have one of those and it lasted me a long time like I bought it used it GameStop and it lasted me like 9 years I get the feeling because that has fewer moving parts of the emulation PS3 the 80 gig 4 Port one you know the later one is more reliable another nice thing about the PS3 is it has an AV out option just like the Wii U had an AV out option these were some of the last consoles to have AV out everything uses HDMI nowadays so if you want to play your classic PS1 or PS2 games you can actually play it on a CRT if you want so I think that's an incredible unique feature that you're not seeing in modern consoles anymore as I said before there's so many games that are exclusive to the PS3 at Genji days of the blade this is a game I had and then I got rid of and then I found it again somewhere at a thrift store you know I don't hear Too Many people talk about this game anymore these days and I actually found out I still have DLC for it so uh yeah maybe consider checking that one out another game is Killzone 2 I don't hear many people talk about Killzone games anymore for whatever reason and this was highly rated at the time so it's uh quite the shooter there you know definitely worth checking out up next is Little Big Planet this is a game you know this was the first Little Big Planet game and obviously there have been several Little Big Planet games since realized I also have DLC for this too that I totally forgot I had um I think I have like metal gear solid uh DLC and like I think Daredevil for some reason but uh yeah this is kind of a very unique game or it was at least at the time and now there's you know obviously several there's been sequels but uh yeah the first Little Big Planet definitely wor check it out 3d. Game Heroes um this is an interesting one for sure this like shot up in price when the PlayStation Store was being announced to be closed down this game like Puppeteer folklore a bunch of other games of like that that just all shot up in value but then have kind of come back down to like $40 range because of you know there was all this you know Madness about oh gosh the PlayStation store is closing for the PS3 or whatever we got to scoop up these games because you can't find them anywhere else and then people like everybody who wondered one got one and all of a sudden you know people are like oh man I should have sold when I had the chance but this game is actually quite good um it pays homage to Legend of Zelda and it pays homage to drag Quest but it also kind of reminds you of Minecraft a little bit and the way all the characters are all blocky and whatnot but it's not like Minecraft at all also this guy's like sword gets like super big and stuff the and uh it's crazy but uh really interesting game it's a game I've never been to get too far in because again it's like the original Legend of Zelda it can be kind of tricky honestly you know and kind of challenging in some ways if you don't know what you're doing exactly and again I never played long enough to really get the full feel for this but it's one of those games I need to come back to and I'm really glad I didn't sell mine even though it got like super expensive at the time cuz you know it just it has a real charm to it definitely one of the coolest games on the PS3 there are just so many exclusives just countless exclusives on the PS3 but one of my favorites is Metal Gear Solid 4 my gosh I played this when it was new guys and it was something else it was one of the greatest send offs to solid snake ever you know it just paid homage to like everything that had come before and a really well done way the load times took forever oh my goodness did those load times take a long time and uh there's a lot of updates to this one too but uh not as many updates as there are to Grand Turismo 5 but we will get into that later we're going to talk about Grand Turismo 5 later on in the end of this video so yeah metal gear solid four you know it may come to Modern consoles at some point but if you want to play it right now and there's even trophy support now there was not when I originally played this definitely worth checking out especially if you were you know feeling like man I don't know I don't know if I want to play the new Metal Gear Solid 3 remake you know I want to get into the mood to play that maybe this might do it for you or get the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection also on PS3 if you want to play the original Metal Gear Solid 3 in HD also another game the DuckTales remaster I don't have that actually on PS3 but I have it on physical version on Xbox 360 and I've downloaded it on the Wii U as as well and you can get it on computer nowadays on PC steam probably um yeah that's actually a really fun one too another game to mention too I'm sorry I keep thinking of more games is braid actually braid is a game I actually had to play for a college class I was taking at one point because it was a class that focused on time travel actually as the main focal point of the class and that's what this game is you basically can rewind time and basically you know fix things and basically it's a really interesting game but it is finally supposed to be getting a remaster I think in April so perhaps wait for that version but if you want to play it you can still play it on PS3 and still buy it I think it's also on 360 and steam as well if I'm not mistaken so anyways yeah so those are the games I can think of off the top of my head that I either own or know of that are exclusive to the PS3 and I'm sure or 't available on PS4 and PS5 anyways so to me that makes them worth getting especially if you own a PS3 I talked about previously how the PlayStation 3 of course has backwards compatibility with all PS1 games and some PS3s also are backwards compatible with PS2 another great thing is you can still buy PS2 and PS1 games from the PlayStation 3's Digital Store the PSN store 17 years later the PSN store is still open for PS3 which is just crazy to think considering how many systems over the years have you know shut down their shops have shut down so considering like the Wii shop channel has shut down the Wii U 3DS DS channels have all shut down as far as digital stores go the Xbox 360 is going to have like you'll be able to buy the game still online but I think you're no longer going to be able to buy games on the Xbox 360 store on the system going forward soon so there's a lot of digital shops that have come and gone but the PlayStation Network PS3 store is still going strong 17 years later it's just insane honestly and it's cool that you can buy PS1 and PS2 games for example a game I've heard really good things about godand you can buy that game on the PlayStation store now I've heard it's better to play it on the PS2 because I guess there's some lag on the PSN version but you know pay $10 versus paying $150 you know vers and there might be some minor performance stutters you know some people that's okay and some people are like no I have to play on original you know which is totally understandable a game I got recently was uh threads of Fate which is a game on PS1 and I heard really good things about that game and godand from a fellow YouTuber pragmatic if you haven't seen his channel go check it out he does a lot of great reviews and talks lot about really interesting stuff on his channel so if you haven't looked at his channel go check it out I've talked about him before on the channel so so but yeah a lot of great PS1 and PS2 Classics that you can't find digitally to buy to purchase anywhere else and yeah I know some people are going to be saying well I like to S the high seas or whatever I'm not paying money for PS1 and PS2 games in fact you can mod your PS3 if you really want to I just think it's really great and convenient and I think it's worth bringing up that there's a legal way to purchase these things emulation I don't care about the morality and legality of emulation that's not what this video is about it's about telling people hey there's still options out there and this is one of them it's a very convenient option and that's why I think a lot of people like myself buy this is because it's convenient and it's less work than going to the trouble of you know modding my PS3 I really like the PS3 but it does have its faults it does have its faults one of the biggest problems is reliability like I said before I've had PS3s die on me in the past I had had two 60 gigs die on me I had an 80 gig four port die on me and I had a 250 gig slim PS3 die on me so I've had like four PS3s die on me this is my latest one that I got recently I showed you guys at the beginning and it's a 300 some gig one I'm not sure how much honestly I actually have some extra hard drives I could have put in there that already have all the games I have on them but I was just kind of lazy and just downloaded them anyways that's another thing that is a downside to PlayStation 3 you would be shocked how many games require some kind of download to actually continue to play the game now the nice thing of course is PlayStation 3 games actually play off of the disc unlike PS4 and PS5 where basically the disc is a downloader you know downloader you know basically you put the disc in it downloads to your hard drive that's not the case with PS3 most games will play right from the disc but the downside is a lot of these games need updates and some of these updates just take forever and I mean forever a good example is Gran Turismo 5 Gran Turismo 5 is so freaking awesome guys but this took like 2 hours to get all the downloads that were on here it took forever I had to keep coming back just to make sure I'm like is this done yet this was crazy how many downloads were on Gran Turismo 5 but Gran Turismo 5 also brings up a much larger conversation and this is the feature I want to talk about that nobody talks about if you guys notice right here what does this say 3D that's right folks you can play games in 3D like for example the Assassin's Creed games a couple of those are in 3D I want to say one of the Batman Arkham games is in 3D there's a number of games that are in 3D on the PlayStation 3 but how do you play these games in 3D well unfortunately you have to have a 3D TV and I do still have a 3D TV from 2012 and it's become the TV you see in this not this background here but the background of earlier in the video when I was talking to you guys that is the TV I use because it has a 3D option and that's great that is fantastic I actually tried playing my Playstation 3 on a projector and it played through for a little bit for a while but then when it figured out that this was a 3D game it was Gran Turismo 5 I was using it basically just like it had an error thing come up and I TR did that every time I tried it so could not play on a projector so that was disappointing but the nice thing is can play 3D games on my 3D TV which is fantastic another nice thing is it can still play 3D movies like here's a couple of examples this is Avengers the original Avengers the I had this movie in 3D and this is the first 3D movie I ever bought I also have um Treasure of the four crowns which is the last 3D movie I ever bought and this is reissued actually um and this had never been in 3D for like the longest time or whatever it was like available on VHS and there were some really crappy DVDs but you couldn't actually find this in 3D Blu-ray and that just happened actually like a year or two ago I want to say the longest time yeah this is the feature nobody ever talks about for the longest time I thought you couldn't even play 3D Blu-rays on the PS3 anymore because mine all of a sudden wouldn't play them anymore and I was under the impression that this feature had been patched out of the PS3 but then I've heard other people saying oh yeah mine's always played 3D Blu-rays which tells me that PS3 I had whenever it had the update that maybe the 3D Blu-ray player option just know wasn't working or the Blu-rays weren't working correctly anymore or something like that because a lot of other people have said oh yeah mine still doesn't work and I think that has everything to do with the maybe it's the current update or it's a fact that the Blu-ray player is not working correctly anymore so but it will in my experience from my experience playing my PS3 will play 3D Blu-rays which is absolutely fantastic it's fun watching movies in 3D it's a feature that was really hot back in like 2010 to 2012 and then just disappeared appeared nobody cared about 3D anymore especially with 4K coming out interestingly enough your PlayStation 4 will play 3D Blu-rays if it's hooked up to a 3D TV because I've done that actually before because I was looking for a way to play 3D Blu-rays and I found out that it did that so I tried it out and it worked great but it's nice that I have another 3D Blu-ray player and recently I was playing grand chismo 5 in 3D holy cow what a fantastic game I wish I had Five 3D Blu-ray monitors cuz man that would take this to a whole other level recently I watched a video from this guy named black Pantha he hooked up like five 42in 4K oleds and was playing Grand Turismo 5 that that was last year actually I think it's like Yeah from like four or five months ago holy crap that's playing Grand Turismo 5 at a whole other level it's insane that this feature existed for such a small audience of Hardcore people who would even play this game this way so it's really something it's incredible this was ever an option and that it's still an option even in 2024 at the end of the day the PS3 serves as a great budget friendly console especially compared to the PS4 PS5 even but it's still a great option it has a huge lineup of games a lot of games you can't get anywhere else and some games you can get anywhere but still they're there they exist and they play great another thing that's also really cool about it is you can play CDs on it which is not a feature on the PS4 what's nice is you can put your CD into your PS3 and you can put the mp3s right on your hard drive you literally could just buy some crappy 40 gig PS3 you know and you know put like a one tbte hard drive in it and turn it into a media player if you really wanted to do that there's a lot of great options I believe there was a way to put video on your hard drive as well I did that a lot of years ago you know the PS3 is such a versatile machine is what I'm trying to tell you guys there's just so much going for it honestly and I think it's still worth owning in 2024 but what are your thoughts is the PS3 still worth owning in 2024 do you still have one comment below I'd love to hear what you have to say anyways thank you guys so much for watching and stay awesome in this universe thanks bye
