hey guys today I wanted to do a test for you and try out cooking to haul chickens at the same time one in my class or a 6 quart pressure cooker and one in my instant pot that is also six quart and just see how they compare side-by-side and what results I get I found two chickens that are almost identical size and I'm excited to see how they turn out so the first thing I'm going to do is get the pressure cookers on their sautee modes on the co Soria it has a saute / brown button and I want to get as high heat as possible so I'm going to adjust up to more which is 302 degrees on the kasoori it'll show you the exact temperature and you can adjust the exact exact temperature on the sautee mode on the instant pot I'm gonna hit the saute button and then I'm gonna adjust up two more if you don't have an adjust button on your instant pot just press the saute mode multiple times until the button adjusts or until the light adjusts to the more setting and that will be the highest temperature setting for the sautee mode I'm going to add about two tablespoons of cooking oil to each pot and allow the pots to heat up so one thing to note on the ko sori is that when you choose your cooking program and then you adjust whatever temperatures or time you want to you do have to hit the on slash Start button the instant pot automatically starts after a few seconds you don't have to press an any on button and that's what I'm used to so I adjust it to the correct temperature and all that and then I sat there and stared at it until it turned off and I realized I needed to go back and do it again and actually hit the on button and when you press the on button it'll start doing this little thing on the screen to show that it is heating up so my instant pot is already hot Mike oh sorry is not yet but that was because of user error now both of my pots are heated up so I'm going to add my chickens breast side down and I'm not adding spices yet I want to brown the chickens first and then once I flip the chicken over I will add the spices and you don't have to do it that way you can have this place it's ahead of time I just don't want my spices to burn at all so I will add first to the kasoori breast side down and to the instant they've been running for about seven minutes some get them flipped over around the other side they've been throwing on the bottom for about five to six more minutes and I'm going to steal it remove both chickens from the pot now for the liquid I am only adding a plastic cup of water to each pot you could use broth instead and the reason I'm only adding half the topic because chicken releases a lot of liquid and so it will get up to the 1 to 2 cup minimum liquid amount that it needs so I am only adding a half a cup to each pot after I turn off the saute mode on both of them cancel over here and press cancel over here and carefully add in my half a cup of water to each pot now as far as trivets the trivet that comes with the kasoori looks like this and it is not designed for cooking a whole chicken for one thing it has this handle in the middle and I did want to show that this is removable I already loosened it a little bit but it has a little bolt and it has two washers one on top and one on bottom so you have to be careful not to lose those if you do remove the handle but it has such long legs that you have to cook a very tiny chicken for this to work in your car sorry to cook a whole chicken so I'm gonna have to use a different trivet in micro story than the one that came with it if you don't have a trivet with shorter legs you could use balled up pieces of aluminum foil or you could use some canning jar rings just set at the bottom just to keep the chicken off the bottom of the pan a little bit and the other thing that is an option is you don't even need to use a trivet at all you can put the chicken and keep the chicken directly in the liner a lot of people just like to keep it up out of the water as much as possible but you'll still get a delicious chicken if you cook it without the trivet so in my instant I'm going to use the trivet that came with the instant pot and in my Co Soria I'm going to use a trivet that I bought a while back that has short legs just set that down in there and then get the chickens put back on top of the trivets and set that down right there now my chickens are just over four-and-a-half pounds so if you did have a larger chicken you may not be able to fit a trivet for example with this one here if it was much larger but chicken what a success six and a half pounds you may not be able to fit the trim it and you just have to go ahead and cook it with no trivet which again totally would be fine for spices I'm keeping it really simple I have in my spice rub here a teaspoon of thyme a teaspoon of garlic powder a teaspoon of onion powder half a teaspoon of smoked paprika half a teaspoon of black pepper and two teaspoons of salt and I will put all those measurements down below in the description so you don't have to try to remember all that but I am just gonna sprinkle this all over the chicken and try to get it inside as much as possible and just get it covered my chickens are all spiced up and ready to cook so it's time to lock the lids on both of them instant pot and make sure both of them are set to the sealing position each chicken was just over four and a half pounds and the rule of thumb on chickens in the instant pot or in a pressure cooker is six minutes per pound so if it was five pounds there'd be 30 minutes if it was four and a half pounds of me about 27 minutes so I'm gonna do 28 minutes and I am gonna do both of them on there poultry settings but I did want to mention that you could also use manual setting and let's see the manual setting is here on the Kesari and the manual setting is here when the instant pot some models don't have a manual button they have a pressure cook button right here which is the same as manual so you could use the pressure cook manual or the poultry setting and I'm just gonna go ahead and do poultry setting on both of the pots and I'm gonna do them both on the highest pressure the kasoori has six pressure settings and I'm gonna do it on the highest I'm gonna adjust the time let's see cook time right here press cook time and then plus up to 28 minutes and then it's already on the highest pressure setting so all I have to do now is press on press on but I need to get this one ready so they start at the same time get this one put up to 28 minutes and this one is already on high pressure and it will start automatically then I just need to press on as soon as this one starts automatically there we go gotta start them at the same time make it me scientific I will let both of these do their cook time and the natural pressure release for about 10 minutes I always try to do at least 10 minutes when I'm cooking meat of natural pressure release time sometimes if I'm in a real hurry I'll do 5 minutes but I try to do at least 10 minutes and the reason for that is when you cook meat and you do a quick release of the pressure as soon as the cook time is up it can dry out the meat it doesn't always but it can so I do try to do at least 5 to 10 minutes of natural pressure release time the instant pot was the first one of the two to come to pressure and to start counting down the minutes the kasoori spin is popped up but the minutes haven't quite started yet oh there goes so almost identical in the amount of time instant pot was just a few seconds faster not even and not even a minute the cook time finished and I let it natural pressure release for 11 and 12 minutes and actually the pin on both of them just dropped down a minute ago so they are all ready to open there's the cursory chicken and here is the instant pot chicken and they do look very similar I'm gonna check the temperature in the thickest part of the thigh real quick just to make sure and it is already up to 180 degrees no worries there and this one as well up to 180 degrees now at this point the chickens are done and they're ready to eat and they're very delicious right out of the instant pot right out of the pressure cooker this way but if you do want to get a crispy skin you can put them on a foil lined baking dish in the oven on broil and let them boil for a few minutes probably four to five minutes per side and you can get a nice crispy skin here are our two beautiful chickens pretty much identical you can see the meat is tender I'll do a quick taste test here just to make sure it tastes good very flavorful and moist delicious and as far as I can tell I got a identical result from both the kasoori and the instant pot and they took almost exactly the same amount of time about one minute faster on the instant pot but that's pretty negligible and happy with the result I also wanted to mention that the broth that left at the bottom of the instant pot or the co sorry make sure you don't throw that away you can save that and use it for a soup or cook rice in or any other grains definitely something you don't want throw away and they'll be super flavorful because it's very condensed so that is it for me today hope you guys enjoyed this video and I will be back again soon [Music]
