hey y'all it's Paula with Loxley Layne and today I'm going to show you how to whitewash a piece of wood furniture this is a super super easy technique for you to do if you've got an old piece of pine or an old piece of oak you can almost always find oak or pine on Craigslist or yard sales typically the cheaper wood that people are have used for a long time and they're ready to get rid of it so this is super easy to do trust me it's super super easy if you have an old piece and you just want to whitewash it just it's very faint paint where you can still see the wood you can still see the texture and holes and and even the grain on your wood so what you do is clean off your piece take some white paint I'm using any slow old white only because that's the only one I had to show you today and what you want to do is take a brush an old brush that's dry we're not going to wet it here that's part of the technique that you'll see and what you do is you dip it in your paint and you paint it on just like this and you're going to let it sit for a minute you don't really have to worry about your brushstrokes because you're going to be wiping them off anyway and I would say probably you're probably only going to need to do one coat like this and you paint it on and you let it dry for a little bit how long not too long your paint will dry very very quickly but what we're going to do is take a dry rag I get mine from Lowe's be like a hundred for three dollars super cheap you can also cut up old t-shirts but just take a dry rag you're going to fold it over and you're going to wipe off the paint if you're like me I like my lines to go all the way across but you can kind of see what's happening right it kind of white washes the wood if you want it darker than that which some of you might you can put on your paint a little bit thicker see if I can do this piece down here and then you see that a little better the neat thing of APIs is you can do it as light as you want or if you wanted it to be darker than that which I probably would want it darker you're just going to put a little bit more on and I'll let that dry for a minute and then you're going to take your rag and just wipe it off if you want it a little bit darker you can leave it darker but you see that I know you're probably thinking what is she doing right now that looks awful but once this whole piece gets covered it's going to look really really neat you can kind of see that a little bit better right so it looks kind of icky but play around with it and it's going to be so pretty I'll show you the finished piece when we're done later but let me show you something with this paint which is one of the things I love about it if let's say you do this and you're thinking oh my gosh I don't know do I get too much just wet a rag and you can wipe it off you see that you think you've messed it up just take some water and wipe it off don't wait till it completely dries you can still take some off that way if you want to but if you don't like something so I've always said you don't like it you can either paint over it or you can start again but this is just kind of a quick technique that I think is just kind of fun I'll show you the finished piece when I'm done I'm going to wax it just like I normally would but again you're just going to put your paint on and then you're going to wipe it off no huge secret to that you see that and the cool thing is that the paint will fill in and that doesn't look very good right now but your paint will fill in all those little nubby cracks and it's going to give it a really really neat wash whitewashed look so look for this when it's done but I just wanted to put up a quick video for you
