you want to know how powerful the gods in your favorite mythology are how do you even measure the power of a god grab a drink grab a seat i'll tell you a story welcome back wayward children to my humble hobble let's get you back in touch with your roots shall we welcome to my tavern i'm castle here we do lore fiction and tailors of yore and today we're talking about god power scaling or how to tell how powerful a god is now there's a couple things we need to talk about but what we're going to go over in this video is as follows there are three things that determine the strength of a god strength actual physical might wisdom and knowledge those two go hand in hand how wise are they and how well do they utilize the knowledge that they have and finally innate abilities these abilities that they either learn or that they are born with that are inherent to them that is shared between whatever their particular god pantheon species or whatever is or stuff that they learn over the course of their lives something really important that we need to know before we get too far into this is that there is a difference between gods and primordials okay primordials are the big bads these are the guys that you cannot really measure their strength like when you talk about yahweh in the judeo-christian pantheon he is ever-present all-knowing and all-powerful both able to do and know everything and anything you have the same thing with a lot of the primordials when it comes to other god pantheons from around the world those are not what we would refer to as gods in this context gods are what came after so if we're talking about the greeks it would be the titans if we're talking about say the celtic myths and their pantheons we would be talking about the fomorians and when we talk about this in the context of norse pantheons we will be referring to the otna the founding group of that particular pantheon and actually if you want to be really honest the primordial gods of the norse pantheon and this is absolutely absolutely hilarious the founding gods of the primordials of norse mythology are a cow ice and wind so how do we go about measuring power as i said in strength wisdom and innate ability we'll first start with strength and then we'll go to wisdom and then we'll move on to innate abilities and that'll be our video now strength how do you tell how strong a god is well these things are usually apparent and what i mean by that is that if a god has a particular amount of physical might it's definitely going to be mentioned at some point or another in a story the stories of the gods and of mythology have to do with notable things they have to do with notable feats so if there's a notable defeat of strength it is going to be mentioned if god does not receive a particular notable feat of strength well chances are they're not particularly strong now while we can presume that most gods in most pantheons have a greater physical might than most say mortals or humans we can also assume that some of them are considered physically weak or meek compared to others like when we contrast thor thor is probably considered to be one of the most powerful if not the most physically powerful god in all of the norse pantheon although there are exactly three other gods in the norse pantheon who are actually stronger than thories but we don't ever hear them talked about and if you guys would like to hear them talked about in their own video please hit me up in the kill section down below and let me know that you're interested however there are many occasions where the rest of the gods sit around and wait for thor to come and take care of things because they are not strong enough themselves in physical might to handle what it is that is going on as we cease to be in the case of chrome near the broad and this is not the only time that this happens there is the case where thor disguised himself as a woman in order to break into jotunheim in order to steal back his hammer and there are many many other occasions throughout norse mythology where thor's strength is weighted upon in order to solve a problem we also see this in contrast with atlas says he is the one who is burned with holding up the sky as well as when zeus picks up the entire island of sicily and throws it on top of the titan typhon which is where the volcano in sicily allegedly comes from bonus mythology there for you another example of a notable feat of strength can be found in the journey to the west poem of chinese mythology where wukong is stacked upon with three mountains on a single shoulder before he is crushed underneath the weight of them wukong being the monkey king from the poem journey to the west so while we can't necessarily line up all the most physically powerful gods and have them have a bench press contest or you know do some chin ups we can have a relative strength scale based off of these things now in all of the mythologies we kind of have to make the assumption that well everything that we assume weighs something has the exact same weight so when we talk about four dwarves holding up the sky in norse mythology we can assume that that means that four dwarfs are at least equally as strong as atlus who holds up the sky in greek mythology now within my family we do have some more nuanced ways of measuring these things they're not super important for this kind of scaling though because we're not really trying to pick these gods against each other we're just trying to get a relative scale so next up is wisdom and knowledge now this sounds like it would be a particularly boring type of thing but actually this is one of the most important aspects of how we judge how strong a god is obviously thor is never going to be the strongest god in the norse pantheon because he completely lacks knowledge and wisdom he is a hothead and he relies entirely on his brute strength his intimidation abilities as well as his reputation to push him through things and we see this in several stories throughout norse mythology where he rolls up onto a farm and basically forces the farmers to give him uh shelter for the night while he's traveling he kills his goats and has them cooked up well one of the children of the farmers accidentally breaks the hip bone to get well not accidentally breaks the hip bone on purpose to get the morrow out of the hip of the goat so the next morning when thor resurrects his uh his goats the one is lame because his hip bone is broken and one of the rules for him resurrecting the goats is that all the bones have to stay intact so he first intimidates them into giving him shelter and then beyond that he then ends up taking the children of the family as slaves because they messed up his goat you hurt my goat i'm gonna take your kids and while odin is widely considered to be the wisest amongst the gods we see that there is a massive problem with the way that odin utilizes knowledge and wisdom in the fact that odin's constant persistence towards having and knowing everything leads to the downfall of not just him but all of his kin and all of his king's kin so we can take gods like mimir and understand that he is incredibly wise and that he has a lot of foresight one of those four sites being hiding a couple of mortals within the forest where his will dwells in order to ensure that someone survives ragnarok and then of course you have some of the stronger gods ironically some of the gods who are actually stronger than thor survive that horrendous battle as well we see also things with wisdom from goddesses like athena in greek mythology as well as the wisdom of gods like a nancy in african mythology while a nancy is typically considered to be a trickster god he has the foresight to record all of the stories of man and place them in the sky now nancy is the spider god of african mythology specifically west africa from the econ folklore so finding gods that have a high utilization of both wisdom and strength is actually a really difficult thing to achieve as well most of the strong gods are particularly hot-headed and a lot of the wiser gods tend to be more self-serving so they don't utilize their wisdom and knowledge well but this is where tyr tends to stand out amongst the norse pantheon where tyr is the god of justice he is the god of specifically justice during war time he is often considered to be a war god and while the norse gods don't actually have domains like thor is not the god of thunder he's not the god of storms and odin is not really the old father that's a name that he gave himself they were given particular assignments by those who believed in them and that's where those assignments come from tyr however is one of the more powerful gods in the norse pantheon because he utilizes well the balance of physical strength and wisdom being the only of the gods who can handle and tame the feneris popes which would be fenrir score and hottie now finally the moment that we've all been waiting for innate ability now you may not have thought you were waiting for this but this is the most important aspect in determining the power of a god or even of a god pantheon what can they do innately now one thing that is common throughout all of norse mythology we have the gods can shape-shift at least to some degree every single god in the norse pantheon can shape shift and this is attributed one of the big misconceptions in norse mythology is that vanir a sierra leone are all different races which is not true they're different tribes juttenheim vanaheim and asgard are all the homes of these particular places and actually if you go back far enough asgard is not even actually the asgard is more of the city than the realm and asgard exists atop the tires hills in midgard so all of the gods in norse mythology at the very minimum have the ability to shape-shift this we know and some are born with varying abilities but they are actually a lot more uncommon than what we would think we don't actually get any instances in norse mythology of any of the gods controlling storms or anything like that and we don't actually see that odin has any particular power over death at all but rather that the velcro or the valkyrie have power over death and the ability to harvest souls and they bring those souls to valhalla and those souls become the i had heard when we get to the greeks the greeks are a little bit different each one of them is seen as having an innate ability a dominion over something each god is given a very specific set of tendencies one thing we know about the greek gods is that they all had a mixed physical strength with very very few exceptions and when you start getting into the god pantheons of the celts and the gales you see that there are specific sets of abilities that seem to be assigned to clans and or areas and those innate abilities range from power over life and death all the way up to power over storms over vines over rivers over waters it is a massive range now when we get further inland we just recently talked about the finished gods which that video will be up here as well as on the in cards so stick around if you haven't seen it already the finnish gods have very specific domains and their names actually usually reflect exactly what their domains and their abilities are there is a goddess of the stench of corpses who is responsible for the decay of corpses there is a god of storms there is a god of thunder there is a god of wind and they have very very specific assignments and the further we go east getting into eastern europe and going all the way out into asia it gets much much more specific the further out we go so innate ability is incredibly important when judging the power of gods because it varies vastly throughout all of the different pantheons from around the world so with this in mind what would i presume to be some of the most powerful gods in existence now i want everybody to keep in mind that this is according to what was handed down to me by my family our very specific lore that we teach and that we learn and that we keep this is not by no means meant to reflect what is popularly or widely accepted i am sharing as it was shared with me you don't have to take this as gospel truth this is more for fun than anything else but who would be the most powerful god well amongst the north pantheon probably one of the most powerful gods would in fact be tyr tyr would be equal to if not a little bit stronger than the all father himself if we're talking about the greeks well my vote there would actually go to hephaestus as his genius as well as his physical strength absolutely trumps that of almost any other greek god including zeus and poseidon if we start talking about the different tribes and african deities i would almost every single time go with a nancy as being one of the most powerful gods in all of the akkon folklore specifically because of what it is he is able to do which if you guys want videos on that you know how to do the thing down below let me know in the comments in the comment section down below if you would like to know more about some african deities perhaps now she's not the most powerful god in the celtic pantheon and this is sort of cheating because the more again is actually three goddesses sisters but the three of them collectively as a singular entity by and large one of the most powerful collectives in all of mythology they put the greek fates and the norse neons to shame you enjoyed your time here in my tavern i know you did so it's time for you to join the clan engage that subscribe button in mortal kombat when the blood drains from its body you'll
