when it comes to impact rated masonry bits are all brands pretty much the same or are some brands a lot better than others in past videos we have found some very affordable products that have outperformed more expensive brands well let's get the testing underway and let's find out in the first test we'll see how quickly the bits drill through high-strength concrete then we'll see which brands are able to drill through some very old and hard concrete we'll really put the bits to the test drilling through some porcelain tile then we'll see which brands deliver the best holding strength at a price of only 3.99 for 11 bits or 36 cents per bit is this work tough brand the work tough brand is designed for use with a hammer drill made of chrome vanadium steel the work tough brand is made in china and the first test we'll be drilling into some high strength concrete that's had several months to cure i'll be placing a piece of tape on each one of the masonry bits so we can drill right at two inches each after quite a bit of experimentation 15 pounds seems like the right amount for the testing i have eight batteries to work with so before each test i'll make sure we install a fully charged battery testing the work test brand we'll be testing the 3 16 bit for each brand first and the very affordable work tuff bit seems to be doing just fine drilling into the high strength concrete and the work tub fit finished drilling 2 inches in depth in 13.9 seconds at a price of 11.99 for five bits or two dollars and forty cents per bit is this irwin brand the irwin brand is made in china patented carbide tip controlled self-centering when starting holes aggressive angles for faster drilling patented flute design for rapid dust removal reduces clogging and increases penetration speed 140 degree cutting tip provides more cutting surface than competitors tip and the irwin brand is definitely making much quicker progress of drilling through the concrete so the irwin moves into the lead with an 8.8 second time at a price of 17.99 for seven pieces or two dollars and 57 cents per bit is this makita brand makita brand is made in china engineered in japan unmatched long life safe drilling and reliable screwing and fastening while drill bit flute design allows for maximal amount of concrete removal for both ease of use and effectiveness in concrete masonry drilling applications a makita drill with the makita masonry bit should make a great combination and the makita brand did just fine drilling through the concrete with an 11 second time but erwin holds on to the lead at a price of 18.69 for 7 bits or 2.67 cents per bit is this dewalt brand rock carbide the dewalt brand is made in germany three flats on shank eliminate bit slipping and chuck for flute design cleans debris out for fast efficient drilling rock carbide tip maximizes carbide surface contact for longer bit life the dewalt is off to a great start making quick work of the concrete with a 9.1 second finish so erwin holds on to the lead at a price of 13.99 for five bits or two dollars and 80 cents per bit is this hercules brand up to five times a life professionally made in china for hercules tools turbo premium carbide tip is precision milled to prevent skating upon entry deep cut spiral flutes quickly removed chips and dust to reduce heat build up professional grade high quality carbon steel body and the hercules brand didn't waste any time getting to work and did a great job with a 9.3 second time the irwin brand is still in the lead at a price of 8.99 for three bits or three dollars per bit is this ryobi brand for drill and impact 135 degree reinforced carbide tip the roby brand is made in china and the robi is doing just fine drilling through the concrete but it's not nearly as fast as some of the other brands at 12.3 seconds so erwin holds on to the lead at a price of 16.97 for five bits or three dollars and 39 cents per bit is this easy arc brand multi-purpose drill bit set the easy arc brand is designed for metal brick and concrete as well as tile and stone this york brand is made in china the easy arc made very quick work of the concrete with a nine second time moving into second place behind the irwin brand at a price of 18.55 cents for five bits or three dollars and 71 cents per bit is this diablo brand concrete carbide tipped hammer drill bit set impact strong the diablo brand is made in china the diablo is the fastest bit yet at only 7.9 seconds so the diablo is nearly a full second faster than the irwin brand at a price of 28.93 for seven bits or four dollars and thirteen cents per bit is this bosch brand the bosch brand claims to have an on-center diamond ground carbide tip for drilling hard materials such as granite stone and tile milled u-flutes and deep cut spiral single flute designs for fast dust removal the bosch brand is made in china the bosch is the second most expensive brand but unfortunately it's not the second fastest with a 10.2 second time at 23.31 cents for five bits or four dollars and 66 cents per bit the most expensive brand we'll be testing is made by milwaukee up to five times a life shockwave impact duty the milwaukee bits are professionally made in china and the milwaukee is the fastest bit yet at only 7.3 seconds very impressive all the bits did just fine drilling into the concrete but milwaukee was the fastest at 7.3 seconds diablo 7.9 irwin 8.8 easy arc 9 and dewalt 9.1 seconds after testing all the bits a look at them under the microscope shows that they're all still in very good condition so let's see if they can tackle a much more difficult task concrete hardens as it ages and a lot of viewers have left comments saying that they have destroyed some masonry bits on some really old concrete foundations this old concrete container is very old and hard it's also about two inches thick so let's see how the bits perform beginning with the work tough the tests will be limited to three minutes and the work tuff seemed to start off just fine but quickly ran out of steam and stopped making progress after about 30 seconds i'll use a paint pen to mark the depth of the drilling three quarters of an inch for the work tuff the work tough experience quite a bit of wear and tear to the carbide tip testing the irwin and the irwin did a lot better than the work tuff drilling through the concrete in 29.3 seconds compared to the new bit which has a pretty sharp leading edge the used bit is still in good condition but there's definitely some visible wear that's taken place testing the makita and the makita isn't very fast but it's still making very slow and steady progress 2 minutes and 40 seconds for the makita and makita finished the job but the bit experienced quite a bit of wear and tear the bit tip is pretty much used up at this point testing the dewalt and the dewalt seemed to start off doing just fine but stopped making progress after about 30 seconds the dewalt just wasn't able to drill through the container right at one inch in depth for the dewalt the dewalt experienced a lot of wear and tear to the tip which seems to explain why it suddenly stopped making progress after about 30 seconds testing the hercules and the hercules started off well but stopped making progress after about 35 seconds just a little over an inch for the hercules brand the bit tip is showing a lot of wear and is pretty much wiped flat testing the ryobi and the roby isn't as fast as the irwin but still did a terrific job drilling all the way through the concrete in only 46 seconds comparing the used to the new the ryobi actually held up really well with only minor wear and tear to the tip testing the easy arc and the easy arc did very well in this test drilling through the concrete in only 29.6 seconds a fraction of a second slower than the irwin brand the easy arc did experience quite a bit of wear but not as much as some of the other brands testing the diablo and the diablo did the best yet of all the brands drilling through the concrete in only 28.7 seconds to take the lead from the irwin brand of all the brands the diablo definitely held up the best yet with very minor wear testing the bosch and the boss didn't waste any time as it drilled through the concrete the fastest yet barely edging out the diabolo with a 28.3 second time the bosch and the diablo seem to have experienced about the same amount of wear testing the milwaukee and milwaukee isn't showing any mercy on the competition totally crushing this test with the fastest time yet of 24.7 seconds very impressive the milwaukee seems to have experienced about the same amount of wear as the diablo in the bosch if you're dealing with hardened concrete only 7 of the 10 brands were able to finish the job with the milwaukee coming out on top at 24.7 seconds bosch 28.3 diablo 28.7 and irwin 29.3 seconds all the bits experience somewhere so let's test them once again on some pavers which aren't nearly as hard as the vintage concrete container and we'll see how they perform and the work tough brand has a lot of wear and it was still able to drill through the paver at 29.5 seconds and the irwin blasted through the paver more than twice as quickly as the work tough brand at only 13.6 seconds while the makita wasn't able to beat the irwin it did nearly as well at 14.6 seconds moving into the second position and the dewalt really struggled in this test with the slowest time yet of 34.8 seconds so erwin holds on to the lead the hercules experienced quite a bit of wear in the last test and it's really hurting in this test 30.4 seconds for the hercules the hercules beat the robie in the very first test but the robie experienced a lot less wear in the last test and the roby beat the hercules this time with a 24.4 second finish the easy york was very fast in the first test but experienced quite a bit of wear on the last test and the easy arc moves into third position with a 20.4 second time diablo was the second fastest in the first test and experienced less wear than most of the other brands and the diablo moves into the lead with a 13.4 second time barely beating the irwin's 13.6 second finish the bosch barely edged out the diablo in the last test and it once again barely beats it this time with a 13.2 second finish to move into the lead and the milwaukee was the fastest bit in the first two tests but the last test definitely had an impact on the bit 16.9 seconds so the bosch came out on top at 13.2 seconds diablo 13.4 irwin 13.6 makita 14.6 and milwaukee 5th at 16.9 seconds while vintage concrete is very hard half inch porcelain is even harder so let's use a brand new quarter inch bit beginning with the work tuff and the work tuff might be tough but not tough enough for the porcelain tile after three minutes of drilling the work tuff just can't drill through the tile unfortunately the work tuff only made it about 1 8 of an inch through this half inch tile and the tip of the work tuff is pretty much used up testing the irwin and the irwin did very well in the first three tests and it did very well in this test drilling through the tile in only 23 seconds very impressive considering it's the second least expensive brand the irwin held up really well with only minor wear testing the makita and makita did a great job drilling the softer concrete but it's definitely not up to the task of drilling through the porcelain after three minutes of drilling the makita made it about three quarters of the way through the tile and the drill bit tip on the makita has a lot of wear and tear and is pretty much used up the dwarf really struggled on the second and third test and the new quarter inch bit really struggled on this test too after three minutes the dewalt only made a quarter inch of progress drilling into the tile the tower really dulled the tip on the dewalt testing the hercules while the hercules didn't come close to matching the irwin's 23 second time it was still able to drill through the tile in a minute and 32 seconds the hercules bit experienced quite a bit of wear the roby successfully completed the first three tests with decent times compared to the competition it also did very well in this test drilling through the tile with a 32.8 second finish to move into second place behind the irwin the ryubi also experienced less wear than some of the other brands while not the fastest bit of this showdown the easy arc successfully completed the first three events and also finished this test at 2 minutes and 28 seconds so erwin stays in the lead and ryobi holds on to the second position these york is still in fairly good shape with some wear as well as some chipping testing the diablo and the diablo did extremely well on the first three tests in this showdown and did great on this test with the fastest time yet of 20.7 seconds the diablo experienced some chipping but there's still quite a bit of life left in this bit while the boss did very well in the first three tests it really struggled with the hardness of the porcelain tile a minute and 50 seconds for the bosch so diablo holds on to the lead the bosch experienced quite a bit of wear and shipping testing to milwaukee 14 seconds into the test unfortunately the tile broke i wish i had another quarter inch milwaukee bit to give it a fair test but i just don't so let's go ahead and use the same bed anyway to see how it performs and milwaukee's still finished in only 24 seconds very impressive the milwaukee experienced some wear and chipping but still has a lot of life left in it unfortunately not all the brands were able to drill through the tile the diablo came out on top at 20.7 seconds irwin 23 milwaukee 24 ryobi 32.8 and hercules a minute and 32 seconds we previously used a 3 16 inch bit from each brand to drill through these pavers so let's go ahead and drive in quarter inch tap cons and then we'll see how much force it takes to remove the screw or break the paver if a masonry bit is larger than advertised it could split or even weaken the work piece if it's too small it's probably not going to hold the hole made by the work tuff seems a little bit too small it took quite a bit of effort to drive the tapcon into the paver the paver broke at 1224 pounds driving the tapcon into the hole made by the irwin took a lot less effort the whole size seems perfect and the paver broke at 1 591 pounds driving the tapcon into the hole made by the makita took about the same amount of effort as the irwin and the paver broke at 1 401 pounds the hole made by the dewalt seems to be sized perfectly and the dewalt did the best yet at 1 672 pounds the hole made by the hercules seemed a little bit undersized but hercules still performed very well at 1 408 pounds the hole made by the roby definitely seems to be sized perfectly and the robie did very well at 1 619 pounds the hole by the easy arc seems to be sized just right and the easy arc did very well at 1 44 pounds the hole made by the diablo seems to be sized just right and the paver broke at 1 473 pounds the hole made by the boss seems to be sized just right but unfortunately the paver broke at 1 259 pounds the hole made by the milwaukee seemed to be sized just right and milwaukee did very well at 1 578 pounds all the brands passed this test with the screws maintaining grip until the pavers failed while the pavers are identical there's quite a bit of variance with a dewalt paver requiring 1 672 pounds to cause a paver to fail roby 1619 irwin 1591 in milwaukee 1578. so which brand won this showdown when you consider the price of the irwin which is the second least expensive brand and its performance arguably it is the best value however i also like the milwaukee quite a bit but it's the most expensive brand the diablo did an extremely good job as did the bosch those are the four brands i like the most and they're all fairly evenly matched so it really comes down to the price all the videos in this channel including this one are viewers suggested so if you have a video idea i hope you'll take time to leave a comment thanks so much for watching please take care and look forward to next time
