a high quality hammer drill can save a lot of time and money and a poor quality one can cause a lot of headaches as well as buyer's remorse so the question is can the least expensive brand which cost less than half as much as the most expensive brand actually perform better well let's get the testing underway and let's find out in the first test we'll see which drill delivers the most torque we'll also see which one drills through concrete the fastest then we'll see which one can drive in a half inch like bolt the farthest at a price of only 66 dollars the least expensive brand we'll be testing is made by kacoop built to serve you the cacoop has a two-year warranty zero to four hundred rpm in first gear zero to fourteen hundred and second we're going to test that max torque 40 newton meters which is 354 inch pounds battery charger the battery charger is made in china all the drills we'll be testing are between 18 and 20 volt half inch hammer drills the drill is also made in china two amp hour battery the good coupe actually has a battery life indicator not bad for a budget tool comes with six spade bits in addition to a very nice carrying case the coupe also comes with some drill bits as well as some drivers if you want to use the drill without a clutch you have that option you can also use it with the clutch and finally hammer drill transmission speed selection definitely takes a little bit of force the led light comes on only when the trigger is activated and doesn't stay on after use eight and a half inches in length cacoop weighs 2 pounds 12.9 ounces 1 274 grams at a price of only 80 the second least expensive brand we'll be testing is made by heart drills concrete brick and masonry we're going to test that increased durability with heavy duty metal chuck three year warranty hammer made in vietnam driving bit battery and charger made in china up to 375 rpm in first gear zero to sixteen hundred and second handle for the drill the heart has a brushed motor 1.5 amp hour battery 2 amp battery charger there's no battery life indicator on the battery or the drill it definitely takes a lot less force to shift between gears with the heart than it does with the coupe the mode selector switch of the heart is also very smooth and effortless 8 and 7 8 inches with the heart i like to coupe the led on the heart stays activated once the trigger's released for just a few seconds the heart weighs slightly more than the kacoop at three pounds 1.6 ounces or 1406 grams at 133 dollars in milwaukee fuel is the third least expensive product we'll be testing model 2804-20. the first two brands we tested were complete kits the milwaukee is just the tool the cacoop and heart have brushed motors the milwaukee uses a brushless motor up to sixty percent more power up to an inch and a half shorter length up to two times faster speed under heavy load we're definitely going to test it peak torque 1200 inch pounds zero to 550 rpm in first gear zero to two thousand in second thirty two thousand impacts per minute five year warranty the milwaukee is made in vietnam i'll be using a five amp hour battery for the testing handle for the drill unlike the coupe and the heart which have mechanical clutches the milwaukee uses an electronic clutch the big advantage of the electronic clutch is it allows for a much more compact tool just like the heart brand the led on the milwaukee will stay illuminated for a few seconds after the trigger is deactivated transmission gear selection on top of the tool milwaukee is only seven inches in length definitely the smallest drill yet the milwaukee weighs slightly more than a heart at three pounds and three ounces or 1447 grams at a price of 139 dollars for just the tool is this makita brand brushless motor three year warranty model xph07z 1090 inch pounds of max torque zero to 550 rpm in first gear zero to twenty one hundred and second handle for the drill the makita is made in china i'll be using a 5 amp hour battery in the makita makita has a battery level indicator on both the drill as well as the battery transmission selector on top of the drill is very easy to work with the makita's 8 inches in length the makita is the heaviest yet at 3 pounds 14.2 ounces or 1765 grams at a price of 150 for just the tool and not the battery and charger is this dewalt brand model dcd triple 9b the dewalt is guaranteed tough the dwalt has a three-speed transmission with up to 450 rpm in first gear zero to thirteen hundred and second and up to two thousand and third there's no information on the dewalt packaging regarding the maximum torque three year warranty tool and accessories are made in china drill handle just like the milwaukee and the makita i'll be using a five amp hour battery with a dewalt you can select three different levels for the intensity of the light the transmission gear selection of the dewalt is a little bit clunky and stiff compared to the makita and the milwaukee the dewalt is eight and a half inches in length weighing slightly less than the makita the dewalt is the second heaviest at three pounds 9.3 ounces or 1 624 grams at 158 dollars for the drill the battery in the charger is this ryobi oneplus brand ryobi does sell a tool only option for a hammer drill but only produces 600 inch pounds of torque and i wanted to test this one since it produces 750 inch pounds of torque just like the milwaukee makita and dewa the ryobi has a brushless motor three year warranty the ryobi is made in china the road comes with a very nice carrying case 30 minute charger roby comes with a 4 amp hour battery handle for the drill made in china transmission gear selection requires very little effort mode selection is also very smooth the ryobi uses a mechanical clutch just like the heart in the coupe the motor continues to spin when the clutch is activated with the milwaukee in the dewalt the motor actually comes to a stop ryobi has a magnet on the front of the drill eight inches in length the ryobi weighs nearly the same as the heart in the milwaukee at three pounds 2.1 ounces or 1 422 grams so if tool weight is a deciding factor the coupe is the lightest at 44.9 ounces but the heart ryobi and the milwaukee are all within two ounces of each other the dewalt and the makita are the heaviest in the lineup definitely seems to have the brightest light heart seems to be in second place milwaukee third ryobi 4th makita 5th and cacoop is last let's compare the noise level of the drills with the sound meter 24 inches from the tool 79 decibels fork a coupe the clutch is also pretty loud at 98 decibels the heart is a little bit louder than the cacoop at 81 decibels 102 decibels this thing's as loud as a chainsaw milwaukee is the loudest yet at 83 decibels the electronic clutch is only 77. makita is the quietest yet at 78 decibels the clutch noise isn't bad at all at 84. the dewalt is also 78 decibels the electronic clutch is the quietest yet at only 75 decibels the ryobi is a little bit louder than the coupe at 81 decibels the clutch on the roby is the second loudest at 101. kakoo claims their drill delivers 400 rpm in first gear and it did it claims 142nd gear and it did even better at 1527 rpm the variable speed trigger worked well with the minimum speed of 54 rpm the heart offers even better low rpm control at only 36 hart claims its drill makes 375 rpm in first and it was very close at 372. it's supposed to produce 1600 in second but was a little short at 1 570. the milwaukee has the best low rpm control yet at only 28. milwaukee is rated for 550 rpm in first gear and didn't quite get there at only 515 rpm it's supposed to make 2000 rpm in second and only made 1798 the makita performed about the same as the milwaukee at 26 rpm makita is rated for 550 rpm in first gear and it produced right at 550 rpm it actually beat its 2100 rpm rating at 2154. the dewalt performed very similar to the milwaukee and the makita at only 24 rpm the dewalt is rated for 450 rpm and was right at its rating it was slightly over its 1 300 second gear rating at 1 330. at 1996 rpm in third gear the dewalt was very close to its 2000 rpm rating the robbie offered very good low rpm control just like the milwaukee dewalt and the makita it's rated for 410 rpm in first and did slightly better at 412. it's rated for 182nd and came up a little bit short at 1769. so the makita produces the highest rpm in first at 550 milwaukee's second at 515 dewalt 450 ryobi 412 kacoop 400 and heart 372. in high gear the makita came out on top at 2154 dewalt second at 1996 milwaukee third at 1798 robbie 1769 heart 1570 in cacoop 1527. in the next test we're going to measure the torque output for the drills using this test rig it's a simple setup with a piece of all thread that turns freely the nuts on both ends have been welded into position if you're working with delicate fasteners you're going to want a clutch that disengages the drill at very low levels of torque the torque adapter will measure in inch pounds beginning with the coupe clutch is on level one zero inch pounds the highest level is level 21. 52 inch pounds first gear level one with the heart zero inch pounds level 24 in first gear 44 inch pounds milwaukee first gear level one on the lowest setting the milwaukee made 122 inch pounds definitely not a tool for delicate work on level 14 the highest clutch setting it made 173 inch pounds first gear level one with makita zero inch pounds first gear level 21 107 inch pounds first gear level one for the dewalt 50 inch pounds level 11. 327 inch pounds first gear level one zero inch pounds level 24. 89 inch pounds if you need a tool with a soft touch for delicate applications all the drills with mechanical clutches were able to disengage the drill at less than one inch pound of torque however the milwaukee and the dewalt both have electronic clutches and you'll have to rely on your skills using the variable speed trigger for applications requiring low torque up next let's test the hammer drill capability using these three quarter inch by 12 inch hammer drill bits we'll be drilling into some concrete that's had three months to cure i'll attach a 50 pound weight to the top of the drill i'm waiting on the cacoot battery to charge so let's begin with the heart the steel plate has a hole in the middle which allows the drill to continue to provide adequate ventilation for the motor the heart actually did well for a budget tool making it most of the way and finally getting up at two minutes and six seconds i placed a piece of tape on the drill bit and we'll come back to this one later the milwaukee made easy work of it and could definitely handle a larger bear the drill didn't even seem to slow down during the test drilling the full length of the bit in a minute and 53 seconds the makita made the highest no-load rpm and it was actually quite a bit faster than milwaukee but it slowed down considerably near the end of the test at a minute and 22 seconds it beat the milwaukee by nearly 30 seconds however the makita's battery overheated at the end of the test and required around 20 minutes to cool down the duo was fast but not quite as fast as the makita at a minute and 43 seconds which is 10 seconds faster than milwaukee but 21 seconds slower than makita roby is actually pretty fast but the three quarter inch bit proved to be too much the robie ran out of steam at a minute and 33 seconds the three-quarter inch bit was definitely too much for the coupe but it held in there for two and a half minutes before giving up the drill speed was definitely a lot slower under load than the other brands milwaukee mckinney and dewalt were the only three brands that finished the test cocoon made it about seven and three quarter inches before giving up hart actually did quite a bit better than kakoo making it nine and a half inches just like the heart brand ryobi also made it nine and a half inches so the makita came out on top at 82 seconds dewalt 103 in milwaukee 113. the heart and the roby both drilled about 9.5 inches into the concrete but the roby was about a minute faster the milwaukee claims to deliver 1 200 inch pounds of torque in the makita 1090. however tool manufacturers use testing techniques to help sell tools and they aren't very realistic so in this next test i'll be using each of the drills in first gear and placing an inline torque adapter in place we'll see how far down each one of the drills can drive a half inch by 10 inch lag bolt we'll keep track of the maximum torque and first gear 125 inch pounds for coupe testing the hard brand the battery is fully charged 209 inch pounds for heart i see milwaukee 563 inch pounds for milwaukee testing the makita the battery is fully charged [Music] 431 inch pounds testing to all [Music] 508 inch pounds with dewalt testing ryobi 260 inch pounds so the milwaukee came in on top at 563 inch pounds dewalt 508 makita 431 ryobi 260 heart 209 and could coupe 125. in the next test we're going to see what the maximum torque is of each drill in second gear using this half inch by 8 inch lag bolt 62 inch pounds for coupe testing the heart brand 78 inch pounds testing milwaukee 185 inch pounds tessy makita [Music] 143 inch pounds testing dewalt in second gear 175 inch pounds in second gear testing dewalt in third gear 136 inch pounds testing roby 107 inch pounds once again the milwaukee came out on top at 185 inch pounds makita second at 143 dewalt 136 ryobi 107 heart 78 and coupe 62. the next test is endurance test to see how each one of these drills performs under heavy load with the engine brake applied it takes 63 inch pounds to spin this engine around take a coupe in second gear good coupe doesn't have enough power for second gear so we'll try first gear kacoop survived the two-minute test in first gear but it really lost a lot of speed near the end of the test testing the heart brand the heart doesn't have nearly enough power for second gear so let's try first gear the heart survived the two minute test but it really lost a lot of speed at the end of the test testing the milwaukee unfortunately the socket adapter came loose during the test as soon as i tightened the chuck i continued the test the milwaukee easily spun over the engine for two and a half minutes in second gear tessie makita [Music] the makita had plenty of power and did great for nearly a minute when the drill suddenly shut off due to the battery becoming too hot the dewalt did a terrific job lasting two minutes without the tool or the battery overheating the roby just didn't have enough power to spin the engine over in second gear however the ryobi did last two minutes in first gear so the milwaukee and the dwight were the only tools that had enough strength and endurance to last two minutes in second gear unfortunately the 5 amp hour battery on the makita held the tool back from making it two minutes the cacoop heart and the roby all lasted two minutes in first gear up next we'll test the total run time in these drills in second gear definitely not apples to apples comparison with different battery sizes but if you're considering one of these kits it's definitely going to provide you with some great information the makita powered itself down around three minutes in the dewalt five minutes so i had to disengage the trigger and then power the tools back up every few minutes the heart with the 1.5 amp hour battery was the first to run out of juice just short of 22 minutes the coupe with a 2 amp hour battery gave up at about 44 and a half minutes ryobi with a 4 amp hour battery lasted 49 minutes and 40 seconds the makita with a 5 amp hour battery was the next to give up at 60 minutes and 40 seconds the milwaukee also has a 5 amp hour battery and gave up just short of 64 minutes finally the dewalt which had a 5 amp hour battery ran out of juice at 70 minutes in the next test let's see how long it takes to charge the fully drained batteries the milwaukee with a fast charger was the first to fully charge the 5 amp hour battery at 46 and a half minutes the heart finished second charging the 1.5 amp hour battery in 52 and a half minutes the coupe needed 72 minutes to charge the 2 amp hour battery dewalt topped off the 5 amp hour battery in 76 minutes the roby has a 30 minute charger however it needed 77.5 minutes for a 4 amp hour battery makita was the last to finish at 108 and a half minutes so which drill is the best i think that really depends on what you're looking for the milwaukee is definitely the most compact as well as powerful however the electronic clutch is definitely not going to be the best option if you're dealing with delicate fasteners on the other hand the makita does have the right clutch for delicate fasteners and also offers a higher rpm range the dewalt seems to be a third place finish all the videos in this channel
