From a fascination with sharp objects to the
woman she fell in love with, here is what you didn’t know about Angelina Jolie: 17. Teenage Years When Angelina Jolie was fourteen years old,
she had a live-in boyfriend. They were together for about two years, and
Jolie stated later on, “I was either going to be reckless on the streets with my boyfriend
or he was going to be with me in my bedroom with my mom in the next room. She made the choice, and because of it, I
continued to go to school every morning and explored my first relationship in a safe way.” However, many of us might not consider Angie’s
exploration “safe.” She notedly experimented with using knives
in the bedroom… you think that’s strange? Well, listen to this. Jolie stated, “I didn’t ever feel enough. I didn’t feel close enough to another person,
I didn’t feel alive enough… Nothing ever felt real and honest enough. And so because I had knives around… early
on in my first [romantic] relationship, I got the knives out and we had a night where
we [fought] each other.” She added that she still has some scars from
the interaction. Jolie struggled with a lot of depression and
feelings of detachment throughout her younger years. However, she claimed her self-damaging behavior
stopped as soon as she adopted Maddox, her eldest son. 16. Brother Although Angelina is the most well-known sibling,
her brother, James Haven, has also done some work in Hollywood. He has played in films like Monster’s Ball,
Original Sin, and Deep in the Heart. However, he gained more recognition when he
and his sister shared a kiss on the 2000 Oscars red carpet. The world was in an uproar after the incident,
and people widely believed that they were in a relationship that was more than brother
and sister. But, their mother’s friend, Cis Rundle,
talked to Radar Online about the smooch. She stated, “The day she kissed Jamie at
the Oscars…[was] the first day [their mother] was treated for cancer. They left the hospital together and got ready
together… Nobody in the world knew that they spent the
day in the hospital. It was like, ‘Look where we’re at now.’... It was meant to be ‘Here we are.’ They only ever had each other. They had a very tight relationship with each
other and their mother.” They ensured that the kiss was Angelina’s
way of showing “sisterly love.” 15. Blood Necklace Angelina Jolie is no stranger to being in
the spotlight, especially since the majority of the world views her behavior as out of
the ordinary. One time that Jolie grabbed everyone’s attention
was during her relationship with Billy Bob Thornton. They met each other while filming Pushing
Tin. Thornton was engaged to Laura Dern at the
time, but he left the actress soon after meeting Angie. The two lovebirds got married the year they
started dating. However, the part of their relationship that
earned them a place in the limelight was their blood vial necklaces. Everyone believed it was pretty weird for
a couple to keep vials of each other’s blood with them wherever they went. Despite their fiery romance, they got divorced
in 2003. Since then, Thornton has spoke out about the
infamous necklaces. He stated, “The necklaces were a very simple
thing…’Hey, let’s poke our finger with a pin and smear a little on there, and when
we’re away from each other, we’ll wear the necklace’... but by the time it came
out in the press, it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks.” 14. Charitable Work This star is also well-known for her charitable
work. In 2003, she bought a house in Cambodia so
that her son, Maddox, could connect with the country he was born in. The home was near the Samlout national park,
which was facing a lot of problems due to poachers in the area. She ended up buying the park and turning it
into a wildlife reserve, which she named the Maddox Jolie Project (later called the Maddox
Jolie-Pitt Foundation). Angelina used the organization to establish
the first Millennium Village in Asia. The center became home to seventy-two employees
and six thousand villagers; it encompassed roads, schools, and even a soy milk factory. Jolie also began supporting the Harnas Wildlife
Foundation in Namibia. In 2010, she and Brad Pitt founded the Shiloh
Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which assists with the conservation efforts of the Naankuse Wildlife
Sanctuary. She and Pitt also help other charities via
the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which was established in 2006. 13. Godparents One thing you probably didn’t know about
Angelina Jolie is that she has a couple of famous godparents. Her godmother… no, not fairy… is Jacqueline
Bisset. She is an Actress from England known for her
roles in numerous films, including The Greek Tycoon, Bullitt, and the 1974 version of Murder
on the Orient Express. Jolie’s godfather is Maximilian Schell,
an Austrian-born actor who starred in various movies like Deep Impact, Judgement at Nuremberg,
and Vampires. 12. Funerals Angelina Jolie has always been known for her
semi-morbid behavior; so, is it surprising that she initially wanted to be a funeral
director? Not really. She stated, “If this whole acting thing
didn’t work out, that was going to be my path… It sounds like this very strange, eccentric,
dark thing to do; but, in fact, I lost my grandfather and was very upset with his funeral… How somebody passes and how family deals with
this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way.” She even took a course for a “mail-order
degree” when she was fourteen years old. 11. Music Videos She is most widely recognized for her roles
in popular films; however, Jolie has also appeared in many music videos. She was in “Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through”
with Meat Loaf, “It’s About Time” with The Lemonheads, “Anybody Seen My Baby”
with The Rolling Stones, and “Did My Time” with Korn. 10. Health Angelina Jolie’s family has a history of
cancer; her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, and grandmother both passed away from ovarian
cancer. Jolie’s aunt was lost to breast cancer. She learned later on that her chances of developing
the disease were eighty-seven percent because of a defective gene. So, she chose to have a double mastectomy
to lessen her chances of developing the disease significantly; they were lowered to under
five percent. In 2015, test results suggested that had early
signs of ovarian cancer, which she had a fifty percent chance of developing due to the same
defective gene. After learning this, Jolie had an oophorectomy. The removal of her ovaries caused her to go
through menopause early. Angie later spoke of her surgeries, stating,
“On a personal note, I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice
that in no way diminishes my femininity.” 9. Brad Pitt Pretty much everybody knows that Angelina
Jolie and Brad Pitt got divorced a couple of years ago. But, things have been pretty difficult for
the parents of six since then. They went through a lot afterward, including
custody battles, the leaking of private information, and they continue dealing with various issues
circling the separation. But, what is happening now? Apparently, the two reached an agreement during
a “secret meeting” and plan on keeping the situation calmer for the sake of their
children. 8. Children Another thing you might not have known about
this famous actress is that she has a total of six children. She adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002,
Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005, and Pax from Vietnam in 2007. She and Brad Pitt also have three biological
children. In 2006, she had Shiloh in Namibia, and in
2008, she gave birth to her twins, Vivienne and Knox, in Nice, France. 7. Knives We already discussed Angie’s interest in
knives. But, did you know that she actually has an
entire collection of them? She even talked about it with Conan O'Brien
after filming Gia. During her interview with the famous host,
she showed off some of her skills with a butterfly knife. She later spoke about the collection and stated,
“It reminds you of history, and there’s just something beautiful about them and traditional. Each country has different knives and weapons,
and that’s why I started collecting them. I’ve done this since I was a little girl.” 6. Pricey Picture There’s no denying that this celeb is pretty
much always in the limelight, and it was no exception when she traveled to Nice, France
to give birth to her and Brad Pitt’s twins. Photographers and reporters were waiting outside
the hospital for about two weeks to snap a picture of their babies. But, the couple sold their newborns’ photos
to People and Hello! for a significant amount of money to donate to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation
instead. In fact, they were purchased for a whopping
$14 million, making them the priciest celebrity photos in history. 5. Jenny Although her relationships with men have received
more attention, Jolie is actually bisexual. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, she
was involved with Jenny Shimizu, a model and actress. They met on the set of Foxfire, and Jolie
later stated, “I fell in love with her the...second I saw her.” She even said that if she hadn’t married
Jonny Lee Miller, then she probably would have tied the knot with Jenny. 4. Father Jolie and her father, Jon Voight, have struggled
with their relationship for years. He left the family when she wasn’t even
one year old yet. He and Angelina spent some time together throughout
her childhood; but, it was generally in front of cameras, and they remained estranged for
a long time. In 2001, they made peace for a while when
they filmed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, but their bond fell apart shortly after. Angelina even legally changed her last name
from Voight to Jolie in 2002. Then, her father appeared on Access Hollywood
and stated that she “[had] serious mental problems.” Obviously, Angie, her brother, and her mom
were upset about the statement; so, everyone distanced themselves from Voight. It took them six years to speak to each other
again. After Bertrand lost her fight with cancer,
Angie and Jon started to repair their relationship. Nowadays, the two seem fairly close, and Jon
enjoys playing with his grandkids. He stated, “...The happiest sound for me
is sitting in my house and hearing children and their laughter. I love my daughter, and I’m very impressed
by her directing. I’m crazy about her and my grandchildren.” 3. Citizenship We all know that she adopted Maddox from Cambodia
and has done a lot of humanitarian work in the country. But, did you know that Jolie made such an
impact that the King of Cambodia gave her citizenship in 2005? That’s right, Angie has had dual citizenship
in the United States and Cambodia for over thirteen years. 2. Stunts Angelina Jolie isn’t afraid of much, and
she enjoys the adrenaline rush of doing semi-dangerous things. So, it might not come as a surprise that she
did a lot of her own stunts while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Jolie had to train for a couple of months
in martial arts before they began making the movie and continued her training throughout. She ended up with a few scars after filming
concluded and even suffered an injury to the tendons in her ankle. 1. Pilot She models. She acts. She wins awards and works hard for numerous
charities. But, did you know that Angelina is also a
pilot? Jolie has been flying planes since 2004 when
she acquired her license. Then, a year later, she bought a Cirrus SR22-G2,
which has a parachute that lowers the entire aircraft safely if something happens. Nowadays, even Maddox practices flying. What do you think about Angelina Jolie and
Brad Pitt’s divorce?
