the universe at its birth was little more than swirling chaos a primordial soup of infinite possibilities that cosmos was both everything and nothing through some unknown process forms quelle list out of the chaos including the planes themselves and those beings later known as gods some of these new born powers reveled in the chaos while others abhorred it the conflict between these two groups between law and chaos defined the planes and the laws that they would obey the mightiest of lost champions were the twin serpents these cosmic serpents Express the duality of law and were unstoppable when they worked together to Syrian the winged and feathered litigated herself to the cause of good while arimin scaled and forked of tongue embraced the darker path of evil despite their differences they were first and foremost agents of law sending their coils out into the endless chaos the Syrian and Arab and created the first ring so establishing a fundamental principle of the planes when arimin took just Sirians tail in his mouth and she did the same with his they demarcate the plane now known as the Outlands since this plane was created by the interaction of law and chaos and was bordered by both good and evil it became the plane of true neutrality with the Outlands defined the other planes fell around it creating what was known as the great ring this construction a central plane of neutrality with sixteen other planes of all alignments arrayed around it is popularly known as the outer planes juh Syrian and Arab ensue Boras had instituted the unity of rings already establishing the importance of rings in planner geography and philosophy the twin serpents now turned their attention to the other laws that would rule the planes in honor of their triple aspects long good and evil the Serpent's established the loss of threes de-creaming the importance of the number three in all spheres after applying this law they decided that they needed another law to complete their triumvirate both agreed they should define the center of the universe about which they would remain coiled despite the clear advantages of choosing the Outlands a place already given over to neutrality the Syrian pushed for Mouse Alicia while arimin agitated for the inverted mountain of Bath or for the first time the twin serpents disregarded the importance of law arimin wanted the plain of law and evil to have pride of place while gist Syrian felt the same way about the home of law and good the two cosmic serpents struggled back and forth neither willing to concede the point in the interest of law the great ring shook as the two serpents rocked the foundation of the outer Plains with jasiri and pulling towards heaven and arimin straining towards hell the two serpents tore themselves apart the Syrian free at last from her evil consort flew off to Mount Silesia also known as the seven heavens her tell its tip bitten off by her rival scattered blood amongst the upper Plains where each drop landed a quarrel sprang up fully formed meanwhile arimin lacking the wings of jasiri n' fell into the bits of bat or the fall was long and deposited the Great Serpent on the lowest level of the pit he too bled as he fell and his tainted vitaille gave birth to the devil's of bat or arimin damaged from his fall and embittered from his struggled with the Syrian embrace this dark offspring as his own with the unity of law broken no center of the universe was formed and so it has remained the plains envisioned by the forces of law as bordered and finite now stretched on into infinity paradoxically the lack of a center became the embodiment of the third law of the twin serpents desired a nod to chaos in an orderly universe both the Syrian and arimin were weakened by their struggle they had invested a great deal of their power in defining the outer Plains and were much diminished in the aftermath of their battle so it was that the other gods usurped them founding Pantheon's and spreading their influence throughout the plains but neither do Syrian nor Aaron man has passed beyond as much as the universe would like to forget them one day a force of darkness may erupted from the pit of battle and only just Syrian would stand in the way of utter annihilation of the cosmos pray that day does not come as you can see that quarrels have quite a legacy in the world of loosened dragons they're actually kind of a big deal however it is important to mention that the cannon initi of the story that have just laid upon you is definitely under some scrutiny the Syrian is not a God that gets particularly talked about much and when it comes to us mo Diaz well we probably have around three to four origin stories related to him there are also many serpent gods that are related to the one that they call the world serpent so it is difficult to tell what is and what isn't true one thing is for sure though both the Syrian and arimin are attempting to let the world forget who they really are and if that's the case they have definitely succeeded let's go ahead and check the Monster Manual entry for the quarrels and see what we get from there it says quote quarrels are benevolent serpentine beings of great intellect and insight there are brilliantly colored wings and gentle manners speak to their celestial origins and quote now fun fact waddles are based on what some call Mexican dragons or more specifically the Quetzalcoatl which was a God in ancient Mesoamerican culture now you already knew that probably the fun fact though is that the Quetzalcoatl was the god of many things but particularly the god of learning they used to venerate the feathered serpent I say god of learning a god of wisdom and intelligence this is why you will see a lot of descriptions for the quarrel as being extraordinarily intelligent you don't see this as much represented here in fifth edition but in every other previous edition the quarrel was a psionic monster anyways continuing it says quarrels were created as Guardians and caretakers by a benevolent God not worshiped since the dawn of time and which is forgotten now by all but the quarrels themselves you can tell that they were trying to be as vague as possible with this lore on purpose mostly because the story that I started this video with it's supposed to not be known by anybody including the vast majority of God's actually now further it says a quaddle cannot lie but it can withhold information answer questions vaguely or allow others to jump to the wrong conclusions if doing so is necessary to protect something to keep promises or to hide the secret of his existence now this one is actually new for a 5th edition quarrels had never really had any compulsion to tell the truth though it does make sense with them being lawful good creatures and then lastly we're told that a quarrel can live for ages without sustenance even surviving without air but these creatures can die of disease or the passage of time it's interesting that this bit here directly contradicts previous lore for the guado spot we will cover that in a second it says here too that a quarrel can sense its end up to a century beforehand but it has no insight into the manner of its demise if it has already accomplished what it set out to do it accepts its fate however if it's imminent death in dangers the completion of its goals it actively seeks out another quaddle with which to produce an offspring the mating ritual of quarrels is a beautiful and elaborate dance of magic and light which results in a gem like egg from which a new quarrel hatches now interesting stuff we also get the character sheet right here very powerful natural armor as you can see a random resistance to psychic that is not explained we see that it possesses a plethora of defensive and support based spells alongside its ability to resist any form of scrying or mind-reading done to it it can change its shape into a humanoid or beast and it's bite is dangerously poisonous with the poison sending the target unconscious for 24 hours now with this out of the way let's go ahead and talk about what the Monster Manual does not tell you about coddles first of all the recent quarrels have a seemingly random resistance to psychic damage and why it is particularly immune to any form of scrying effects or mind-reading once again is because the creature is actually a fairly powerful psionic a lot of things start to make sense once you discover this fact it is through psionics actually that most of the sensory abilities of the coatl become active like its ability to true sight as well see with quarrels using psionics they actually have the ability to see the auras of people so if you're a good person you would appear as having for example a gentle yellow aura whereas if you're evil you can imagine yourself having a darker purple ish aura and this is why illusion magic to conceal yourself is not effective against a coatl they can also see all around themselves in a 360 degree angle and they can see sounds they are also highly attuned to the ethereal realm so they can also see through it these things and more is what gives the creature its ability to true sight not that the Monster Manual told you that and as you can imagine their telepathy is also a psionic ability of theirs now moreover they can also turn invisible using their psionics they can teleport around and they can even time shift with this ability of time shift the coatl can see into the future for at least 20 or so seconds it works as a weak version of time traveling where the quaddle actually travels forward in time about two or three rounds forward in time while everything else is frozen then the quaddle sees the future and simply waits for the time to pass before time catches up the rest of the spells in the quarrels arsenal work in the same way as a divine sorcerer would work whereas they are able to cast what normally would be clerical spells but as arcane magic this is just innate magic given to them by Joe Syrian their God that all quarrels naturally possess the Syrian as an entity does not answer prayers probably because it is not able to since technically it is not really a but a form of Supreme Being from the time before gods now the quarrels bite has also undergone some major changes before it actually used to be quite deadly instead of just turning one unconscious back in 2nd edition they might actually used to insta kill you if you fail the saving throw then in third edition injustice a pure stirring score eventually leaving you temporarily with zero strength which would leave you helplessly unmoving on the ground in first they shouldn't just did damage so it's been kind of all over the place when it comes to this attack and we don't really have a stated lore mark and what it actually is supposed to do so this one is kind of up in the air but now lastly when it comes to interesting abilities one of the most powerful and you stabilities of the quaddle that the must remain you'll completely neglect the dimension is this incredible ability to simply be able to materialize itself in and out of the ethereal realm see quarrels are extraordinarily rare to find so much so that they're actually considered legendary you're probably far better off trying to find a unicorn than finding a coatl that's how rare they are supposed to be now one of the biggest reasons for this is because they don't actually simply hang around in the prime normal existence they usually are always moving about in the ethereal realm more so than that quarrels have the special ability to take multiple things and even other people into the ethereal realm at will as long as the thing or the collection of things that he's trying to carry way no more than 450 pounds the quaddle can take it to the other side and then back again an incredibly powerful ability for some reason fifth edition did not include this which is baffling me which is a big part of their hold power anyways that's it for abilities and spells so let's just go ahead and just talk about them as creatures what's a quatl what does it do all day where do they live just how the Monster Manual described them they actually no longer have a direct purpose in their existence they typically don't have any divine command issued upon them or any Grand racial mission to accomplish as a celestial creature instead what they spend their time doing is collecting information and wisdom from the world and sharing them between themselves a quater will spend its entire life simply traveling they love to travel and just learn about things this is their main calling in life and they truly engage in learning as much as they can generally speaking they try to steer clear of meddling and humanoid affairs but if they notice that a culture town or a group of people are struggling with something like medicine or agriculture they will help by imparting their knowledge this is why cultures that reside so close to the lair of a quaddle have in their legends much veneration towards them and see them as divine creatures where they help them in their time of need it also helps that quarrels are known to be one of the most beautiful creatures in the world their radiant scales their rainbow feathers and the awe-inspiring essence of their persona gives us the sense of divinity that everyone feels every description that you will find it brings in dragons about waddles and they will at least take a few sentences just to describe how gorgeous they are they say that only the blackest of villains would ever attack a coatl now even though quarrels are extremely solitary creatures they actually see themselves as being part of a larger clan a clan that would ever only meet in times of great need this clan would be led by the oldest and wisest in their numbers now what's very interesting is that in spite of the fact that quarrels do not need to eat in order to survive they actually do eat and fairly regularly to at least regularly - a creature that doesn't need to they are carnivores and they tend to go out hunting for jungle animals once every week jungles are by the way their favorite ecosystem and it's generally where you will find them if you do find them otherwise they will exist within the ethereal now in the jungle they reign supreme having little to no fear from most other monsters or creatures that would reside within it they have of course as you can imagine no natural predators now when it comes to reproduction we did get a bit in the monster manual and by a bit I mean just a single sentence we were told that the mating ritual of Guadalajara dance of magic and light which results in a gem like egg from which a new quantal hatches but that's it and unfortunately we don't really have a ton more than that but merely a few fascinating extra details mating between quarrels is a very rare occasion typically only happening maybe once a century between any particular couple couples which establish for life and will coexist within a lair together now even though there is an egg involved in the reproductive process as the Monster Manual mentioned said we're actually told that it is not like typical snakes reptiles were us the baby will remain in an egg for some time before it hatches instead the baby is actually already alive and will probably break out of the egg instantaneously as soon as the egg is in quotes summoned the egg is merely more of a formality for them it seems like a metaphorical presentation we're not really truly explained how it all works specifically only that the baby comes out already live and that there is an egg involved it'll take the young Caudill about 30 or 40 years to reach maturity and then it'll have to decide whether or not to stay with their parents for another century or so something that many coddles do it'll eventually however as they all do set out on his never-ending quest for wisdom both parents are highly participant in the rearing of the baby and its education and will of course fight to the death if their child is ever threatened now let's go ahead and end the video by bringing it back to the beginning let's talk a bit about just Syrian the god of the quarrels something particularly important when you deal with celestial creatures especially creatures that don't necessarily spread around like angels but instead congregate typically on one singular heaven and in one singular realm the realm of just Syrian and the quarrels is called Ouroboros and it is a floating realm on the fourth layer of Mount Silesia the layer known as salon eeeh the electrum heaven Mount Silesia is a beautiful place but a rough place this heaven is described as being the toughest place to exist and live in in the entire multiverse simply because it is a place of self perfection you come here because you want to be better you come here because you're a pilgrim looking for answers and you must hike the tallest metaphorical mountain in existence to find those answers you come here because you seek to mend your ways and shed your evil disposition you come here to train your soul into becoming pure there are no shortcuts here there is only hard work and the betterment of your soul pilgrims that coming to Mount Silesia climbed the seven heavens the seven mountains in order to get to the top and become pure but every mountain and every layer has puzzles and challenges and steps that one must take in order to better oneself the fourth layer of Selenia is called the electrum heaven because that is worthy dwarvish Pantheon resides this is where Muradin and his wife baron are truesilver live now interestingly enough it is just Syrian the one that actually holds the key in to moving from the fourth layer into the fifth layer and any pilgrim who wishes to keep climbing will have to contend with the quarrels of Ouroboros the puzzle is this quote virtue untested is merely innocence on tempered iron can never become steel each journey is a journey into death but each death is a rebirth only through failure can one go on as snow melts into the stream and the stream flows into the rivers and the rivers into the silver sea so does lives flow into each other from the sea to the clouds and back to the rain all lives return life's cycle returns again and again until after some time all spirits are released to rise beyond the vault of the heavens the forgetfulness that eases pain is the greatest blessing of the merciful powers and quote in order to progress into the fifth layer of mounts Lesha you're supposed to surrender yourself to the merciful powers you're supposed to fail you're supposed to die only through failure can one go on you must either fall from the mountain into the precipice below or if you have the ability to fly you must fly as high up as you can after reaching the peak of the mountain until you can't fly any more and then fall down exhausted any of these two things will bring you into Ouroboros and into the realm of the quarrels the realm is described is being filled with clouds and Misty vapors it is entirely an eerie place with no obvious support some describe it is not so much a place of sights and sounds as a place within sensation of lightness exhaustion and relief accompanied by complete bliss the place is populated mostly by ghostly serpents but with a lot of winged serpents quarrels and wind Walker's the interesting twist to this particular realm is that words are made flesh here and speech acts as summoning magic involving speech like holy words and thrall charm and various speak with spells will summon forth physical manifestations of this spell sometimes even summoning the creatures named for example a holy word for instance will bring an angel in response and woe to the poor guy who does not have a good reason to summon it a spell like speak with plants will turn you into a plant for the spells duration and a speak with dead will turn you into a ghost in order for you to speak with the ghost in order to proceed and leave the realm of uroboros you have to challenge another pilgrim for virtue untested is merely innocence to succeed first you must fail and sometimes dying is part of the process - even though Jessie Rhian is not truly a full God even though most people do not know about him he is considered a greater power in the overall hierarchy of the heavens his real powers
