I was at this event where GZA from Wu-Tang was speaking, and it had nothing to do with rap. It was actually science-related. Of course during Q&A a lot of people want to focus on rap, and since ODB's birthday had recently passed, people started bringing that up. One guy held up a 40 and shouted something and no one responded to him, cause that wasn't the point of the event.
It felt like the reason he was there was overshadowed by it being "the guy from Wu-Tang"
Ethan Hawke is a top banana. Would definitely have a few brewskies with the guy.
The whole thing about making a new impression was downright depressing. You can see how he values social interaction and he probably hasn't had a genuine encounter with a stranger in a very long time.
I like his end remark "we're just the same, all of us". If Ethan Hawke asked me for directions and I didn't know who he was, I'd have no way of knowing, and I'd just go on about my day. Fame is such a strange thing. Famous people are treated completely differently from everyone else, and it'll probably never change.
That sucks people who just want pictures. The only celebrities I want to meet are mostly actors and it's to actually talk to them about their craft. I'd love to just sit around and drink a few beers with Ethan, he seems like one of those the nice ones that hasn't let the fame go to his head.
Thatβs a crazy interesting perspective! To lose the chance at first impressions is something I never considered.
I recently saw the guitarist of my favorite band, Peter Buck of r.e.m, play a local show with his current band. After the show he was signing some autographs, taking photos and having conversations with fans. We took a photo and he signed an album for me but I could not bring myself to talk with him. Heβs been an important part of my life for 30 years and I couldnβt even say thank you to him. Iβve been agonizing over that missed opportunity for weeks and this video really makes me wish I would have tried harder to connect with him in a more real way.
I'd sit down and talk with him like a normal person for as long as he wanted, I know how he feels, probably not in the same way, but I know the feeling.
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
