What If You Could Use The Portal Gun In Half-Life 2?

this is the portal gun but not the portal gun you remember we've taken a look at two different portal guns now and this might be the best one we've seen so far so this is peabody's portal gun which has the classic yellow and red portals and they work just like you'd expect we do maintain momentum going through them however it can be a little iffy i mean right now it's pretty much working like how you'd expect but sometimes you have to be very precise on where you put the portals you can also press r to reset the portals just like in the game and i mean would it really be portal if we didn't have atlas this portal gun ah the beautiful turquoise with dark blue now unfortunately this portal gun does still suffer from the same problems that the original did and that is that sometimes the skybox can just go black for some reason it's really strange but you know what the transition is the best we've seen so far and the sound effects just oof it really just completes the whole set now i mean obviously you know with every portal gun we have to do it can we do the infinite elevator we can up to a certain point so i mean i'm not even really moving but you can see that like the game is like it's kind of like pushing me towards a direction that might be why it's kind of hard to land on a portal you've already placed and of course we have to have it the og portal gun with the classic orange and blue portals it's so iconic wait actually i wonder can we shoot this in water oh god i think it worked oh so yeah we have a we have a little pond here let's oh what wait what so yes it does work in water however it's a little strange thankfully though we can go back through it and it actually works pretty well now it's time to answer the question we've done this a few years ago we played through half-life with the portal gun and saw how far we could get let's do the same thing with half-life 2. i did this on my stream about a year or two ago but let's do a video on it anyway all right so obviously every half-life 2 adventure starts on the lovely train and the first thing we have to do is to test to see how well that's what i expected so unfortunately you cannot make npcs walk over the portal and teleport somewhere now can you pick them up and put them in there now however the good news is we no longer have to go through doors that's peasant guys we are better than that we have the portal gun now in fact this works pretty much for everything we could just skip pretty much most of the game uh i always wanted to know what was back here nothing i guess in fact we could even go to nova prospect as a kid i always wanted to know what was behind this gate and well there's pretty much nothing in fact something tells me we're going to be seeing a lot of nothing a whole lot what about this prison room i've always wanted to see what was behind here and yeah you can't shoot the portal no i mean obviously you could just no clip but that just like defeats the whole fun of it what about this i'm going to shoot a portal through and then when he closes the door i want to see what happens to that combine soldier oh all right so bonnie just instructed us to build up boxes to get through the window but we have the portal gun now we don't need to stack boxes we could just badoosh but douche oh that box would have helped though now unfortunately with loading screens with how gary's mod handles loading screens between the half-life maps it completely loads in an entirely new map which is how it works in half-life but now we have a dilemma we have to put the cannon but why don't we do it with portals all right so for some reason we can't pick it up with this let's see if we can pop this in the trash can portal style wait what all right let's try this again oh oh it does work but can we put it in the trash can all right here we go oh what i didn't mean oh we did it unfortunately he wasn't there to see it what's beyond this door nothing ah city 17 nothing like the fresh smell of a horrendously oppressed nation to really get you started in the morning now can we go beyond the borders of the oh okay now now it's getting exciting unfortunately though yeah there's just like this and that's it what if we could just go to the citadel from here that would be so cool if it wasn't just some weird prop in a skybox to give you the impression that it's actually a giant tower now the thing that's really cool about this is we can just skip like all the puzzles we don't even need to go through this we could just hop right through we might have a broken ankle or two but it kind of works out we can really just kind of speed run the entire game and now we load into one of my favorite maps in all of half-life 2 and that is the apartments map this just shows how bad the impression has gotten everyone is pretty much forced to leave their homes or just get hunted down like dogs it's kind of sad like they just want to live their life but since we're here anyway let's see what's going on back there wait what killed him he's just dead the other combine soldiers are just gone maybe the combat soldiers have portal guns too unfortunately there's nothing else back through here so now we just have to leave now can we stop the combine soldiers from coming through this door oh god uh oh wait it his body went through the ow it does not seem like we can stop them which means yeah we have to run for our lives wait what's down here yeah this pretty much just lo oh god haha portals i'm stuck all right i learned my lesson now can we get through to here oh close that door man all right now it gets real let's see now that we are outside what we can do with the portal gun can we skip the death zone that is on the ground well no you can't what about going all the way where the petrol sign is oh oh oh i think we're gucci oh we're good oh no never mind oh hello now it really begins can we skip thought you had oh damn it i tried okay um alex what the hell nice i gotta look at my beautiful mutilated foot oh that is alex are you are you good uh alex no alex what happened she's phasing through the wall look how dead inside she looks can we save her maybe oh i don't think we can wait wait hold up we have we have gmaw technology we can oh god no no it's it's over unfortunately we had to leave alex behind but thankfully loading into a new map means she comes with us now i've always wanted to know what's behind here and oh i didn't know it dropped ah dr kleiner's lab what a beautiful place to be this was always something i loved going to as a kid and we can't really do too much like i said i really wish that we could like make them go through the portal i think that would just be hilarious but it doesn't seem to work that way you know i've always wanted to know what he was talking about with that cat i feel like we'll never know now what's it look like when lamar goes into i've always wanted to see this she just disappears i mean that's pretty typical game design so now it gets real what happens when we teleport to the many different areas if we go through a portal back here okay here we go oh what oh it broke the game i'm way outside the sky box oh there we go i don't know what i did but we are now with the ichthyosaur all right so i had to literally fly all the way i was way over there in the darkness somewhere i had to fly all the way over to here because for some reason when i went through that portal it just it completely messed everything up so guys something interesting when you come back into the lab you actually load into a different part of the map thankfully coming back here continued the process we can get this stupid thing off my screen okay now let's see if we can go back oh look at this that's where lamar was is lamar still oh lamar he's okay and look he didn't even eat the way actor what this bird's an actor this is really bizarre oh look at that he's an actor but lamar he's a generic actor oh god the insult i've always wanted to explore this place um it's it's pretty cool i also wanted to go to the area with the ichthyosaur but unfortunately there was no area that we could actually send a portal to so i think that's pretty much enough um yeah so far you could definitely get through this i think the only time you have an issue is when you have to fight the helicopter but you usually have a turret for that anyway so yeah in terms of just playing um you know without using the weapons unless it's like a turret or something you could pretty much play this game perfectly with a portal gun so let me
