I actually love what I do. This is my 18th year
on the railroad. I love instructing, which is
what I'm doing now. I'm
instructing student engineers. I love operating as well, so when
I can, I still do operate trains. And um...it's just a great job to have. My name is
Inaede Marughu Sr. I'm currently a Locomotive Engineer,
Special Duty Instructor. I've been with Metro-North for
five years now. My name is Robert Separi and
I'm a Training Officer, Locomotive Engineer for
Metro-North Railroad and I've been with the
MTA for ten years. My earliest train memory is
being in the train with my dad as he was operating. I'm
second generation of railroad. We actually operated around the
same time just before he retired, so that's probably
one of my biggest memories. Responsibilities for a
Locomotive Engineer are vast. From dealing with your crews and
having a job safety briefing, to checking your equipment and making
sure all your safety checks are complete. Safety plays a major role in
what we do because of how many lives we were responsible for. One of the coolest things you
get to see when you're up front operating as an Engineer is
you'll get the best views. If there's a 4th of July,
you'll see all the fireworks up and down the Hudson. You'll see eagles fly in and
dip in and grab fish and fly right next to your cab. It's cool to
run the Yankees trains, especially when they win. See all those Yankee fans out there, to be
able to bring them to and from the games. To just be operating
the train to Harlem, to look on both sides and see
the buildings and everything it's just...it's just a great scene. Knowing that my work is
essential to keeping this city moving is a sense
of great pride. It gives me great satisfaction
knowing that I'm getting thousands of people to their
destination safely and they're relying on me to get to work. I'm an Engineer and I run trains. As an essential employee,
moving essential employees, through the pandemic to be able
to bring doctors and food workers, for us to be able to get them
to and from their job safely I take a great sense of pride
in being able to do that. I take pride in my job
now and I really enjoy it. I am glad
I became an engineer. It's an amazing job, you know. It's a lot of responsibility, but at the end of the day
when I go home, you know, I'm happy with what I've done
for the day at work. I know that I have a
great job to come to and I'm grateful for it.
