Schrödingers health care.
Either it is not free, but paid by taxes
or it is not free and therefor not worth having.
Damn that was sad
That woman in pink is a classic example of 'The Problem'. She thinks the current system is the best simply because it's what they've got, and America being the greatest thing ever, surely their medical system is also the greatest, right? When she is presented with clear facts - which she doesn't dispute at all - she still thinks the current system is better. It's about as pathetic and idiotic a position as one could take.
Also pretty sad to see how people don't understand taxation. "If it's free, who pays for it?". The same people who pay for the schools, dumbass.
On the down side: I pay roughly 500€ a month as a self employed person in Germany. On the upside I have NEVER payed a single cent extra. Not for medication, not for hospital stays. Nothing. NOTHING. I even had my nose fixed, because my septum had grown unfavorable (no plastic surgery, the nose looks the same). I didn‘t pay a cent extra for the whole ordeal. So yes, you pay 6000€/Year here, but you will never be surprised with a 100.000€ bill and be bankrupt overnight. It really is better this way. Oh yeah and my son is covered with no additional costs under my wife‘s insurance ... he had influenca and had to be taken to a specialized hospital and stay there for a week last September. My wife was with him the whole time. The bill: 0€. Oh yeah and she could use our son’s sickness as reason for fully payed sick leave, so she still got her wage. I feel bad for the US, not because they don‘t have such a fantastic healthcare system, but that they are brainwashed into believing that it‘s better not to have it. To quote an American statesman:“Sad.“
Just one slight inaccuracy. Scotland (while part of the uk) has a devolved NHS which means we set our own regulations for it.
NHS Scotland is completely free, prescriptions and all
300 dollars for a fucking inhalor?! Jesus, I pay like 10 dollars at most here, and that's considered almost a rip-off.
"I'm guessing the UK doesn't pay anything, which sucks because we pay a lot."
It's interesting that a lot of people seem to think that healthcare in the UK is free as in beer. It is still paid by taxes. But it is more efficient, which means on average everybody pays less. It is also more... socialized(?) which means it is available for everyone with health problems, and not just for everyone with money.
It has its fair share of problems, but the core principle that everyone pays (taxes) according to their ability, and that everyone should be covered are incredibly valuable.
God every time I feel like it'll get better eventually I see stuff like this. If the people don't even want it then no change will ever happen
