hey get back here right now it disguised itself as an island I had no Focus it's hard to believe that it's been almost 4 years since Final Fantasy 7 remake was released a game some fans had wanted for decades it was more than worth to wait though the ending proved divisive as it effectively declared that the continuation of the story had plans far beyond being a simple retelling of the original story and we're finally about to find out what those plans are with Final Fantasy 7 rebirths launch just around the corner we actually got to play a couple of hours of the game at a recent preview event so heads up that this video contains brand new footage from early on in rebirth as well as mild spoilers for the original game enjoy [Music] Jo our preview and Final Fantasy 7 rebirth as a whole starts off with the neheim flashback which we weren't able to capture this section in case you need reminding or you never played the original has you playing as 16-year-old cloud or does it freshly recruited to Soldier first class and working alongside hero seph they're dispatched to Cloud's hometown of neheim to invest instigate a malfunctioning Macco reactor and it all kind of goes downhill from there rebirth sticks very closely to the original story beats and it's amazing to see how many locations look exactly like their original imaginings with just an extra bit of Polish Shinra Manion in particular we cannot wait to return to later small things have been adjusted or added Cloud rumaging through tifa's underwear drawer will not be well received by Tifa or aith and results in them firmly admonishing him while characters like zangan get a little more of an introduction it's an exciting opener As Told by Cloud to the party in the current day at the Inn in Comm once we pick up the main story again the next morning things open up significantly Final Fantasy 7 rebirth essentially continues with the gameplay mechanics laid out in remake but then elaborates on those by layering a bunch of new systems and options on top of that initial frame with your team of allies growing as red 13 officially joins The Adventure Party Dynamics are more important than ever as your individual characters level up nice so too can your party overcoming challenges helping people in need and exploring the world deepens your party's bonds adding to your party level as this increases your characters will have more skills and abilities available in their folios where the hell have you two been on a date kind of what uh well that was the last one at least till things calm down got that now let's move separate two party level is Clo's releas relationship status with each individual character just like in the original game his actions affect relationships with Cloud's allies and the strength of these relationships can alter portions of the story it seems like basically a more conspicuous version of The Love Triangle mechanics of the original game with perhaps some extras added on top you can press L1 to view a party member's feelings towards Clyde as indicated by a varying smiley face emoji above their head it was one of my favorite uh the light blue one calm is a much bigger location this time around with lots of shops live music and new characters like Broden the inkeeper one of the first things you'll do once the story kicks off in Chapter 2 is receive a starter deck for Queen's blood a new card game to challenge NPCs to ingame for rewards you can find other players around the world to challenge marked by a particular icon over their heads when against them and you'll receive more cards to add to your collection though you can apparently also buy booster packs from shops in game as well as opportunities to fight other opponents in other times as the story progresses you can also build and edit decks from the main menu the tutorial for Queen's blood seems fairly simple but it's the kind of game that you can tell will grow with complexity as you build your deck and find new Challengers out in the world each player takes turns placing a card on the board in one of the three lanes that span from left to right cards Feature Creatures and characters from the ff7 universe so the starter deck includes lowly figures like Shinra Riot Troopers and security officers grassland wolves and lons as well as a gargant a card's p is shown in its upper right hand corner and placing it on the board adds this P to your lane total placing a card will also open up new spaces you can move to on the board shown with Emerald Point pawns the spaces a card will add to the board are shown at the bottom of it in yellow squares placing a card so that its yellow squares overlap with another Pawn already in position on the board will raise that position's rank a card's rank is shown at the top left of the card and cards can only be placed on positions equal to or higher than their ranks so to play more powerful cards you'll need to be thinking ahead and raising the rank of your positions on the board cards that overlap an enemies Position will claim it as yours but it won't raise the rank any higher and some cards also have abilities like raising the power rank of Allied cards they're adjacent to so it's another layer of complexity and strategy to utilize and keep an eye for as soon as both players have no cards left to play and both pass on a turn the game ends only the player with the higher p in their Lane has that P added to their score so after calculating the winner for each Lane and adding their Lane scores up the player with the highest total score wins it's all pretty simple to pick up and we're looking forward to seeing how it evolves sold out C also introduces magnata books a bookstore chain with locations and automats across the world used to augment your party's folios that is spend skill points to increase each character stats or teach them new abilities including Synergy abilities customizing folios is basically a sphere grid style upgrade system where SP unlocks progression along each character's upgrade path just like an FFX sphere grid it seems like it'll be a fairly linear path with small offshoots mostly only determining the order you unlock new abilities and upgrades in depending on your play [Music] style extra bullets how much is this one welcome damn that is quite the weapon you got there mister being able to customize your play style is something that Final Fantasy 7 rebirth is very keen to impress on players you can upgrade your weapons in the main menu and raising your character's weapon levels will unlock more of these skills as well as stat boosts to set for each weapon allowing you to customize each alies combat style to suit you so for example CL Buster sword starts off with two weapon skills to choose from a weapon ability damage increase of 5% or increasing Cloud's Max HP by 200 increasing your weapon level will unlock more skills to set and as you level up you'll be able to have more than one active at a time honestly it's a little fiddly and not everyone will be into that level of micromanagement so luckily the game has an option to automatically allocate weapon skills if you'd rather just not have to think about it you can even set auto upgrades to be balanced or prioritize attacking or defense now separate from that weapon abilities return from remake as a recap each weapon has its own distinct ability that can be used while equipped but use that ability enough times and your proficiency grows maxing out your Proficiency in that ability will unlock it for you even when that weapon isn't equipped and then adding Materia unique character ability summons Synergy attacks Elemental effects and environment mental and situational opportunities onto all of that you've got one indepth but deeply satisfying combat system it'll probably take a little getting used to especially if it's been a while since you played remake but the results will be worth it stars a quick explainer on Synergy attacks actually using ATB commands that have specific notches beside them gives individual characters Synergy and when two characters share enough enough Synergy between them you can see at a glance who has wat by the little rectangles under their ATB gauge in the bottom right of the screen you can use their Synergy abilities provided you unlock those in their folios abilities can deal big damage and they can also apply Buffs like increasing limit break levels unlimited MP for a duration or staggering enemies for longer plus they just look really really nice and now that your team of allies has expanded and ventured out into the world you'll need to keep track of your core combat ready Party of Three you can adjust the battle Party from the main menu and create up to three presets to swap between while exploring the World by opening the commands menu and pressing L1 or R1 so for example you can have a party specifically for longrange spell casting damage or Close Quarters melee combat and so [Music] on it's a transmuter converts raw materials into more practical items a republic antique but it still works one big system need to rebirth is accessed via the transmitter which converts raw material into items like consumables such as potions or antidotes equipment accessories and more you can collect chips to unlock recipes or simply level up to gain exp that will unlock more options for crafting being able to craft the essentials lessens your dependency on shops and vendors important as the world opens up massively and there are some items that can only be gained through transmutation you'll honestly be tripping over materials every 30 seconds while out exploring the Wilds but if you're looking for something specific symbols can help point out rarer materials as well as ones only dropped by enemies pressing the touch pad while in the item transmuter menu can also give you hints about where specific materials can be find if you're in a hurry to craft something in particular so we only got to explore the grasslands area Final Fantasy 7 rebirth which covers the original story section from after the party leave Cal to crossing the swamp PLS and arriving at the entrance to the mythal mine that is a teeny tiny portion of the original game and here it is staggeringly vast with so much to see and do that it is a little overwhelming the world is huge and very beautiful and if you're Keen to put off the main quest there is tons to do we had very limited time to explore during our preview but we still managed to find cash locations where there were treasure chests to hunt MOG stools where you'll need to rind up mlats to open up a shop where you can noce spend any mugal medals you find on handy items equipment and transmutation ingredients and site quests that include picking Flyers to make flyer CRS and using the game's photo mode to take amateur Scenic shots of landmarks and share them with the association of Photography afficianados you'll also need to track Wayward chocobos and chadly returns from remake to help you with a ton of different activities like compiling battle Intel and crafting unique Materia including summons like Titan he'll also send you to find life Springs by following spring Seeker oils surveying the LIF spring gives you Regional Intel to learn about the history and Ecology of a particular area you can also hunt down summon crystals out in the world which when analyzed allow you to fight a weaker version of their corresponding summon in order to unlock it as a Materia Titan for example has three crystals to find in total and you'll need to complete a memory miname to access the crystals P chadley's Intel also opens up other interesting side quests including a large multi-part thread to track down so-called Proto relics out in the world and discover their purpose which I have a feeling might have something to do with Final Fantasy 7's most powerful summon Materia Knights of the [Music] r let's go if you can tell already Final Fantasy 7 rebirth looks set to be a huge stunning sprawling epic one problem it might have if anything is over stuffing and overe explaining itself the last thing I'd want as a Final Fantasy 7 fan is a world and an iconic story that has no mystery to it anymore think about the most recent Marvel and Star Wars properties where every single little cool detail from the original noi has an unnecessary backstory and every classic iconic moment is replayed to the point of oversaturation it just might be possible that big iconic moments in Final Fantasy 7 rebirth like Sethro facing dun Cloud surrounded by the fire of neheim could be telegraphed and built up so much that they may as well be winking at the audience with giant neon signs and they really really don't need that rebirth for example in my opinion continues the TR for a remake of saffro being a little Overexposed in the original game Sethro was rarely seen in early portions of the game but his impact was so strong that his Dame felt like it needed to be whispered and you'd still see how terrifying his P could be your party was severely outmatched by the original midgar zum so much so that you were strongly advised to find chocobos to avoid getting into a fight with it at all but as soon as you bypass the swamp you'd see the Great Serpent impaled on a tree as Cloud incredulous ly asks whether Sethro did that red 13 would comment that it's a part they should respect and even B concedes that Sethro is pretty strong the gruesome sight of the snake brutally impaled while Thunder Rolls overhead was such a striking image it's one of the key moments for me that sets up how powerful an adversary saffro really was in rebirth you find the chocobos you move through the swamp lands but then you end up fighting the midgar zum anyway here called the midgard armor and though you eventually beat it it revives and drags Cloud into the water with it it's a about to end Cloud for good until Sethro appears and for some reason rescues Cloud striking the snake out of the water in such a way that it lands and is impaled on the tree much like in the original look your mileage may vary and that's totally fine but for me that's not really as powerful a message as it was in the original [Music] that said there are absolutely lots of nest and funny moments in Final Fantasy 7 rebirth the dialogue continues to shine here and stay true to the original characters I cannot wait to see what other Secrets the final game has in store and I'm ready to have my heartbroken all over again in the Forgotten Capital are you how do you feel about the direction rebirth is going in if you want to refresh your own remakes ending check out the explainer video I did on screen now and stay tuned for lots more Final Fantasy 7 rebirth videos as we get closer to launch thanks for watching bye enough for her standard course twice right her what now ask him Cloud uh um forget it you guys need to focus [Music]
