[Applause] you know what's so good about worship is it brings us into touch with the things that are eternal and to focus us on what is praiseworthy and that is always jesus christ the bible says whatever is praiseworthy well guess what guess who is always praiseworthy it's jesus see here's the thing we get our minds on all of our problems and all the things i've never heard one worship song that was about mass mandates or about the vaccine i don't think there's going to be one you know why because that crisis will come and go but christ will remain as worthy of our worship so we're here to focus on what's eternal and super encouraging i might add would you turn around and say hello to someone you don't know and welcome to calvary chapel [Applause] i know you know we take a while and welcome to those of you that are joining us by the internet uh harvest crusade is this sunday it's october 3rd and uh you know i know some of you are right now saying i'm not going why why not i mean i i want to argue with you about that a little bit i want to provoke you to think about you go i've been i've seen it it's too crowded i'll leave a seat for a non-christian listen i've heard all the excuses in the world the body is gathering on sunday we'll be together sunday morning but man what a great time to see the body of christ in southern california come together be praying for those that are lost to get saved to pray for those that are prodigals to come back and just to witness the power of the word of god it's going to be a great time i hope you'll go we'll we'll be leaving with a group who wants to go together uh in the afternoon at three o'clock here just get here by three plan to leave right about three phil wickham uh uh will be performing and king and country and court greg will be sharing the gospel it's just one night so join us if you would like to and if you wouldn't join us and then uh the hallelujah party we do that once a year and we uh did we do it in covid no i guess we didn't so we we're gonna have two in a row no i'm just kidding we're gonna have one on halloween uh and we we look at it as a night to not so much escape the world we're not hiding we want to redeem it for go for god's glory you know uh we believe every day was created by god to give him glory so our heart is let's redeem this from the pagan celebration and leave some candy out front the first bad kid will take it all but still you know you come with your kids we're gonna have a great time here uh there's lots going on you know if you haven't been to one of ours it's it's fun but also a great time for fellowship and catching up with each other they're gonna do line dancing i guess this year too uh chili cook-off if you want to be part of that but we do need volunteers to work the booths and you can sign up on the app so if you haven't already signed up to help that night we would love it it's not like you sign up and you send your kids out and you're working all night you sign up for how long is it gym an hour one hour so that's why maybe you're coming as a couple you can trade off or whatever or if your kids are older just serve it's a blessing you get to know a lot of the families here we do need candy donations uh for the kids there's places to turn those in at the entrances i believe here at the church so next time you're in the store pick up a bag of something you like to eat don't open it and eat don't give us one half of a milk dud box or whatever just give us the whole bag unopened and uh i was telling jim we need donations for bless fest we do clothing you know and it's it's a blessing because that's you know thanksgiving and we give a lot of clothes away and uh one of the items or two of the items we get are you know socks and underwear needed yeah and we just we think do we really have to say they have to be new and unopened i guess we do i guess we do so uh anyway candy same thing never open never yeah licked okay we are in exodus 37 so find your bible let your bible find its way open to exodus 37 and uh we're gonna keep going through this book until we get to the end of exodus but tonight just 37. we'll see how far we get i'm just going to read the first nine verses and then uh we'll we'll read more as we have time now bezel l say that bezel-l that's pretty good he made the arc of acacia wood its length was two and a half cubits it's with one and a half cubits it's height one and a half cubits and he overlaid it with pure gold inside and out and he made a gold molding for it all around he cast four rings of gold for it on its four feet even two rings on one side and two rings on the other he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold and he put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it he made a mercy seat of pure gold two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubits wide he made two cherubim of gold he made them of hammered work at the two ends of the mercy seat one cherub at the one end and one cherub at the other end and he made the cherubim of one piece with the mercy seat at the two ends the cherubim had their wings spread upward covering the mercy seat with their wings with their faces toward each other the faces of the cherubim were toward the mercy seat let's pray god tonight as we come and do a tour by your spirit of the tabernacle and we see the things that you had made for the ministry to be performed would you give us eyes to see not only what was constructed but what you were previewing lord that we have the privilege at this point in time and history of looking back and appreciating what they stood for more than the people could have more than bezel l could have lord you've given us such privilege so would you open our eyes to see jesus in this chapter i thank you we just worshipped him we focused on it we want to stay focused on him we need to so help us tonight receive all that you have for us in jesus name amen you can be seated so i mentioned last time we were together that uh if you have a commentary they tend to stop at about chapter 35 36 and just summarize the last few chapters because well there's a lot of repetition uh in the last part of the book of exodus if you've been with us for a while i don't i don't know how many of you claim you were here at the beginning of the study of exodus anybody all right there's a few uh so we've been at it for a while um but we have studied virtually everything in this chapter already and it sounds very much like a rerun and so you kind of ask yourself why are we reading the exact same description of the what are called the furnishings of the tabernacle in detail again and i think that's why a lot of commentaries basically just put out see chapter 25 where i already spoke about all of these things because this is covered back in chapter 25. um put this down and i'll try to help us understand maybe why put this down scripture reveals god's plan but also records the performance of god's plan so put in the words plan and performance the reason i say that is if you go back which i have and look at where we studied these the mercy seat the ark of the covenant and the other furnishings of the tabernacle in the holy place that we're going to talk about tonight in chapter 25 and some of it in chapter 30 the same details are there but the question needs to be asked why in the world would moses go and basically say kind of almost the same exact thing um whenever there's something repeated in scripture what you want to do is take careful note is there anything different is there something different that's being said remember we have matthew mark luke and john that cover the life and ministry of jesus by the way matthew mark and luke are very similar they're so similar they're referred to as the anybody of the ah good the synoptic gospels s-y-n in greek means together not s-i-n s-y-n together and optic means to c optimize to to c in greek to see together and the idea is matthew mark and luke are actually looking at many of the exact same events but they're recording it individually and so while they are covering the same material mostly the same material the slightly different angle like if there's a car accident and you see it and i see it we may see things a little differently and so it god has three witnesses and then john who writes later comes back and gives material that matthew mark and luke kind of left out and some of the same material because he wants to go over it as well so there's a reason god wants to give us things in a repetitive way sometimes it's because there's details that have been left out and in this case what you might not notice if you go back and you probably won't read it anyway but chapter 25 again and you say well how is it different it's different in this simple way in chapter 25 god is saying they are to construct these things and he lists the furnishings the ark of the covenant the mercy seat the the menorah and the table of show bread and the altar of incense and he says they shall build them and here's how they're to build them in this chapter they're being built that's the difference in other words what god said they are to do they did now why is that so important well because you need to understand that god's word is like that a lot god's word gives us if you will god's plan and a preview of his work of salvation many many many times over in the old testament that's why when jesus came you have this all through the gospels jesus did this or didn't do this to fulfill the scripture that was written and the idea is god said i think i said it last week you ever seen like a puzzle box and you have the box of puzzle pieces and there's a picture on it that's how it's gonna look not when you take it out of the box it's probably not gonna look that way when you're done either because somebody stole a piece or you got tired but if you really have the time and they're all there that's what it might look like when you're done it's a preview of what it's supposed to look like well that's what we have all through the old testament about jesus we have prophecies over 300 of them that god said this is the way the messiah is going to be when he comes here's what he's going to do and then we have the gospels where christ comes and he actually does it you see he performs it so god's word is given it reveals his plan and then we see the fulfillment of it in scripture now one other thing i'll say is this that when the lord repeats himself you should take notice of it instead of skipping over it there's there's rare times in the bible where god repeats himself you know the lord calls people often he'll say their name twice saul saul why are you persecuting me simon simon he'll he'll repeat himself that's it's interesting jesus will say this it's translated truly truly i say to you right in the greek it's amen amen amen amen it's translated truly truly it's like what if you only said one truly would that be like a half truly or no of course it's it's emphasizing it when there's repetition that's a means to get your attention okay so whenever the lord repeats himself in his inspired word even if it's him i already read this read it again there's something he wants to emphasize to us it's important enough to go over again even though it seems like i already know this stuff peter says as long as i'm in this earthly tent i think it's right to stir you up by way of reminder of things you already know but i need to tell you again and so i want to encourage that the other thing is that the bible says let us magnify the lord and and can i tell you something if if you haven't got it by now the old testament is not just a study for us of what happened to the nation of israel out in the wilderness folks it's all about jesus it's all about him remember the two on the road to emmaus luke 24 they think jesus was the messiah but he can't be why because he died he died on the cross they crucified him and we were hoping he was going to be the messiah and they're walking along and they're bummed out and guess who joins them ah jesus but they don't recognize jesus and so jesus is saying what's wrong with you guys you look really depressed well did you not you're the only person who hasn't heard the news about jesus or we thought and they they tell jesus about jesus but they're not witnessing for jesus they're bummed out that jesus couldn't be the messiah because he died and jesus said oh you slow of heart to believe all that the prophets had written about the messiah did you not know he had to suffer to enter his lord no they didn't know that because they kind of skipped over those passages in the bible it clearly taught it and so then the bible says jesus though they still don't know as jesus opens the scriptures to them and i take it to me and he didn't have a pocket scroll on him he literally just shared the bible their bibles they knew the old testament that was their bible and he showed them everything concerning himself in all the old testament man would it have not been great to be a part of that study when they were done they go into emmaus they he breaks bread jesus takes the part of the host uh being the person who's kind of in charge and he breaks the bread their eyes are open and they see that it's the living christ and then he disappears and suddenly they have this burst of energy and they go man we gotta go back to jerusalem and tell them jesus is alive well they already know that but they they didn't know that they knew that because they didn't have texting and they ran back to jerusalem to announce he's alive and we've seen him you know and i think to myself what a blessing they said this to each other did not our hearts burn within us when he opened the scriptures to us i mean explain the scriptures to us in other words when we saw jesus in our bibles and our our hearts came alive can i tell you that's what i want on wednesday night this should be heartburn wednesday nothing to do with the cafe we should be seeing jesus all over the old testament why because it's all about him and so as we're studying the tabernacle we're not we're studying jesus in the tabernacle and it's all about him every aspect of it and so i don't mind reviewing jesus any time put this down god intends everyone to know who he chose to build his house the very first verse of our chapter says now bezalel he's only mentioned three times in the bible he's an obscure name most of us have never heard of him other than in this study maybe i i've never met someone who told me their name was bezel l uh it's not like oh that's a name named michonne bezello i mean it's too close to beelzebub you know or whatever nobody names their kid bizzell can hardly say it bezel um this guy is an interesting guy and in chapter 25 god just said you're going to build it but here god names the person the one whom he's choosing to build his house bezalel if you'll remember was gifted he was filled with the holy spirit he was an artisan he was filled with wisdom understanding and knowledge in the things that needed to be constructed so that he could build the house of the lord by the way we know this from chapter 25 he is of the tribe of judah well isn't that a coincidence you see bezalel is actually a type of king solomon why well moses receives the blueprint of what needs to be built but moses doesn't build the tabernacle he gives it to bezalel who is spirit filled with understanding and wisdom to build it david receives the blueprint of the temple david doesn't get to build it he's a man of bloodshed but who will build it his son solomon a man of peace a man who by the way was filled with wisdom the wisest man on the planet he became foolish later but he was wise and he was used by god to build the temple very interesting but bezalel while he's a type of solomon remember what jesus said concerning solomon he said you know this generation is going to be reproved and judged someday because the queen of the south the queen of sheba came from the ends of the earth to witness and to hear about the wisdom of solomon that's recorded in the old testament and then he said but there's one that's greater than solomon who is here bezalel is not just a type if you will of solomon he is a type of jesus christ who is of the tribe of oh yeah who was filled with the holy spirit who was filled with wisdom and knowledge and understanding who said i will build my church and the gates of hell will not overcome it by the way bezalel's name means overshadowed by god what happened to jesus when he went up on the mount of transfiguration the cloud of glory overshadowed him he is in he's almost a perfect type of jesus christ and he is the one that god has chosen the one to build a house for god and the bible says you are the house of god it's not just this building is not this building will not probably make it through it might not even make it into the tribulation i don't know but it's certainly not going to make it through the millennium we're not going to be worshiping here folks uh calvary chapel of jerusalem that's where we're going to be for a thousand years uh ruling and reigning with christ um you know i remember years ago becky and i were looking to buy our first house and you know that's always a nervous that's a nervous time it was nervous back when houses were a hundred thousand dollars yeah you'd buy 10 homes now with for that anyway new homes and uh we couldn't afford in orange county sound familiar nothing's really changed and so we i had a friend i was a police officer and he had just bought a new home out in riverside by the tyler mall out there and so he said come out you got to see these homes are amazing so we drove out there and we went through the model homes it was like wow the i mean it was gorgeous they had these what they call it these windows bay windows or whatever that you know are kind of angled or i don't know what they're called anyway beautiful window my wife like those and and i mean the carpeting was gorgeous the master bedroom was huge these the furniture was plush the grass was lush it was like this is a no-brainer and then my friend who who lived out there said he wanted us to come out for dinner to see his place and we went out it was it it uh it didn't look like that other one that was right there in the same complex uh it was most of the rooms were totally empty or most of his junk was in boxes and and i realized uh there's something different between this one and the model home yeah the model home is completely furnished his had some of his old junks a lot of empty rooms and it wasn't so good and then i realized that the neighborhood it was built in was just gang written all around there you know in the drive-by shootings it was like yeah i'm not sure this is the right home for us to live in as a police officer i share that because i want to talk to you a little bit tonight about god's house being furnished and how god has furnished our faith in christ i want you to join luke 22 verse 12. listen to what jesus said about the upper room where they were going to have the last supper jesus said to his disciples in jerusalem this man will show you a large furnished upper room prepare the meal there that's the night that jesus said i want to have this special meal with you and i want you to be in a furnished room it's the same word that's going to be used throughout scripture about what god does for us in our faith jot down ii peter 1 and verse 3. second peter 1 3 says seeing that god's divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness through the true knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence in other words in christ the idea is now spiritually everything that you need to live this life for the lord god has provided for us in christ now the tabernacle we've been studying it so i won't spend forever on this but i want you to look at one slide that shows the furnishings of the tabernacle can we put that up on the screen there we go okay this is the part of the tabernacle called the holy place and as there's a cutaway the veil is cut away and you can see the holy of holies in the holy of holies is where the ark of the covenant was and the mercy seat which by the way we think of that as one thing that was two things there are seven actual furnishings in the tabernacle two we've studied the brazen altar and the braze brass laver are outside of the sanctuary we're not studying those tonight inside in the inner sanctum in the holy of holies is there's two items the ark of the covenant and the mercy seat then outside of it there are three furnishings on the left you can tell what is that called the menorah or the lamp stand then on the other side is the table of showbread and then in between them right in front of the veil is altar of incense okay that's good i just want you to be aware these are the things that are being mentioned in this chapter and i'm using some phrases to kind of bring us into an understanding of what each of them represent as far as christ's ministry to us so put in the first one pardon me pardon me put this down it is the ark of the covenant and the mercy seat that represents divine propitiation now i know that's a big word propitiation all the word propitiation means is to satisfy god's holy demands to fully pay or to to satisfy god's wrath so put in the word pardon and propitiation now i think we have a picture of the ark a little bit a bigger picture of the ark in the mercy seat this is an artist's conception of what it looked like now again two items talked about in our text put this down the ark contains god's testimony let's leave that image up if we could you guys we're going to refer back to it but the ark contains put in the word testimony jot down exodus 25 and verse 16. we can go back and forth for the verses in exodus 25 it says this you shall put into the ark the testimony which i shall give you by the way the the ark that the concept of an ark is uh we find three of them in the old testament all of them in some way represents christ the first ark we rid of is the ark of noah right and everybody in the ark is saved and everybody outside the ark is not saved everybody who's in christ is saved everybody who's not in christ is not saved then the beginning of the book of exodus we find a miniark who's on board that one that'd be our boy moses yeah his mom remembering what god did with noah when the jews are supposed to throw their babies in the nile instead makes a little tiny ark you can read it that's word that's used she makes a little arc puts him in there with tar and just just like and she puts him out on the water and he is saved drawn out of the water that's where his name comes from so once again salvation happens in the ark now we come to the ark that god said to make this is not for people to be inside but it does represent christ and we studied this in greater detail but it's called in exodus 25 the ark of the testimony and of course jesus christ is god's testimony the testimony is that he in fact is god the ark and this is why i want the picture up there contained three things anybody know what what they were they're right there but name them if you know okay a bowl that's what that's representing a bowl of manna what what was another one yes aaron's staff aaron's rod that button what was the third one the ten commandments are the two tablets of the law second edition we remember what happened to the first one so here's what you need to see about how what's in the ark is a testimony of christ remember that the bowl of manna was how god provided supernaturally for his people in the desert during the 40 years jesus came and they said well you know our our forefather moses proved who he was by giving us bread in the wilderness and jesus said i am the living bread that came down from heaven to give you eternal life you eat the your fathers ate the bread they all died but he who partakes of me you'll live forever you see i am the living bread the two tablets of the law representing god's revelation it was his word he actually wrote it with his finger and then moses wrote it out again this was the word of god jesus is the living word of god we have the written word and christ is the living word and then aaron's rod what was the significance of aaron's staffer rod budding what was that about anybody remember why did that happen somebody raise your hand if you want to tell us i don't know who's talking i just don't know who to pick on they pick on somebody shady wants to be picked on when the other leaders of israel were you know wanted to challenge him you know all their i believe all their uh rods didn't come back to life but his came back to life and became an elementary so here okay that's exactly right i know that everybody can hear and i know at home you can't hear should be here see i can hear anyway but we'll wait for you the uh there was a conflict between aaron and and uh people were jealous of their leaders in the nation of israel while they were on the march through the wilderness and they accused aaron like you think you're something special and like you're something like we're all the same and uh so god said yeah really why don't we get all the leaders together and every leaders try of the leaders of the tribe we want their rod because they all had like a symbolic rod that they would use for their tribe bring them all to the tent of meeting put them all down there including aaron and for for his family and they put him before the lord the next day they came back and all the other rods were just the way they had been but aaron's rod had budded and it was an almond tree evidently originally of course it's a dead almond tree but it had come back to life and now it had an almond plant i mean kind of springing forth from it and it was this is talking about miracle grow it was producing fresh almonds i mean that's like pretty awesome right you have a little almond factory so it was pretty clear who got it chosen the one that came back to life was the proof that this is the one i've chosen that we need a hint how that represents jesus i hope not because it should be very clear to us and it's exactly spoken of in romans i don't think you guys have this passage but jot down romans 1 verse 4 which says he was declared jesus was declared to be otherwise the son of god with power by what well the resurrection from the dead jesus said no sign will be given to an evil of adulterous generation but the sign of jonah as jonah was three days and three nights on the belly of the great fish so shall the son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights in other words resurrection is the sign that i am who i said that i am just as aaron's rod but so every one of these testimonies reflects who jesus christ ultimately is it's the testimony of who he is put this down number two the testimony this this ark carries this testimony will go with his people wherever they go in verse three we discover not only is it in the holy of holies but it was designed to move he cast four rings of gold for it and then two poles of acacia wood overlaid with gold and they put in the poles in order that it can be carried so this this representation of god's presence physical visible representation of god's presence which is a description of jesus the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld him you can't see an invisible god but jesus is the visible representation of god he's the fullness of god dwelling bodily you see the ark you could see god is invisible but that symbol that visible symbol of god if we say jesus christ is portable one of christ's names comes from isaiah 7 14 as we usually use it at christmas we're told that his name will be called emmanuel that's right it means god with us therefore the lord himself will give you a sign behold a virgin shall be with child and bear a son and his name shall be called emmanuel and this is fulfilled in the book of matthew referring to jesus jesus said i am with you to his own even to the end of the age now the ark then represents god's presence wherever because god's presence his shekinah glory actually manifested itself above the ark everybody wanted to get as close to god as possible why because the nearness of god is my good because in his presence his fullness of joy it's why you're here it's not you're not here because i read a bible study no you want to be closer to jesus you see and he reveals himself in his word he reveals himself when we worship he comes together where two or more are gathered in his name that's why i want to be here because jesus shows up but he is portable i love that it's not just a reflection of god's presence but also god's supernatural testimony is through christ and frankly he stays with his people jot it down mark 16 verse 17 these miraculous signs that's what the word signs means in greek will accompany those who have believed in my name they will cast out demons they'll speak with new tongues in other words the miraculous the supernatural reality of god's presence will be carried with god's people throughout the ages jot down first corinthians 14 24 and 25. i know you're going to sore hand tonight because i'm going to give you a lot of scriptures paul says if you come together and everybody's speaking in tongues you're going to they're going to think you're nuts you're going to think you're crazy but on the other hand when you come together you're all speaking god's word it's not you should have sessions for prophesying that's really not what he said he's saying when the church gathers if we're filled with the holy spirit and speak in a intelligent voice that people can understand but we're motivated by the spirit of god to each other if you're prophesying and an unbeliever or an ungifted man should enter among you they will be convicted by what they hear they'll be called to account by all that you hear and their secrets of their heart will be disclosed they'll fall on their face and worship god declaring god is certainly among you this is the idea the presence of the lord jesus christ with his people is miraculous it's not just wow he's over there he's miraculous no he is now dwelling with his people we he goes with us put this down number three we see the mercy seat is where god's wrath is satisfied and his mercy is found in verses 6 through 9 it describes the construction of the mercy seat which was the lid of the ark of the covenant now you might say it this way i think this is accurate if christ's body is the tabernacle if you want to look at that way christ's ministry is the ark christ's cross is the mercy seat it's not called the angry seat of god it's the mercy seat the place that god's presence dwelt and it's also called by the way in the bible the throne of god the mercy seat was the throne of god you know if you go to disneyland they used to have probably still have that sign happiest place on earth now when i was a kid that was true and you got to be an adult you had to pay for it all not so sure most expensive place and anyway but if there was a sign in the tabernacle in the holy of holies it would have been the holiest place in the universe it is the place that the high priest only one day a year on the day called yom kippur kippur is from the greek or apparently the hebrew kefir which means to cover the day of atonement literally is the day of covering that's what it means and it's the day when the blood of the innocent animal that was sacrificed would be sprinkled on the mercy seat and the picture is this that inside the ark of the covenant is god's holy law which has been broken we have sinned and the the fact is god in heaven are looking down at his broken law and the law demands justice and judgment but the blood of the innocent has been shed covering if you will god's vision and view of the broken law the innocent blood interposes god's need to be wrathful and to judge and instead it becomes his mercy seat you see the place where he can give us mercy and this is a type and a picture of the lord jesus christ in fact the word propitiation which means the place where wrath of god is satisfied is actually the word that's used to describe jesus in first john 2 2. if you want to jot it down listen to what it says he himself is the propitiation the word helasmus which is the greek word that underlies the translation propitiation is literally translated in mercy seat he is the mercy seat or the satisfier of god's wrath for our sins and not for ours only but also for those of the whole world and then hebrews 4 16 we always talk about the throne of god let's remember it's talking about where god dwells it's the mercy seat let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in the time of need you don't have to be afraid god's gonna yell at you god's gonna not talk to you you know there are people in your life who you're gonna say you're sorry to and they're gonna say after you finally say i'm sorry they're gonna go we should be and that's all you're going to get from them god never says that to you you you you put off confessing your sin you've been excusing your sin denying your sins pretend you didn't sin well everybody sins and then you finally come to the place like david in psalm 32 he said when i kept quiet about my sin i wasted away as with the fever heat of summer your hand was heavy on me all day and all night i was miserable by the way you know he sinned with bathsheba she got pregnant he tried to you know get uriah to sleep with with her that would cover it up that didn't work that was his day of covering and it worked and because his loyal soldier was too loyal to go sleep with his wife while the other guys were on the field and this guy was an honoring honorable man and he refused to sleep with his wife slept out on the front patio and david couldn't get him to sleep with his wife so that didn't work so he gets him killed then he marries her and thought well you know it's about nine months on a pregnancy and yeah babies a little early but uh he looked like he got away with it so from the outside he's just going on with life like everything's fine but inside he's dying you know what if you i pray you are close enough to the lord that you can't live a fake christian life very well or you may fake us out you may come and sing something hey god bless you but inside you're drying up because you're not right with god and you know it though nobody else around you may know it you know it in psalm 32 he says man let the godly cry out to god when he might be found i finally confessed my sins and my iniquity i did not hide and god restored me and it's like oh why did i wait a year that was the worst year of my life and i love that about david that he cannot stay far from god but there's a place to find mercy you got to go into the very presence of god and you'll find he's been waiting he's still waiting he's not angry for how long it's been maybe tonight's your night to say i want to get right with the lord i i haven't known how or i haven't known what to say but i just want to be right with them please don't go home staying far from the god who loves you put this down first we said pardon me that's the ark keep me put in the word keep keep me and this speaks of god's divine provision in verses 10 through 16 look at the bible then he made the table of acacia wood two cubits long cubit wide and one and a half cubits high he overlaid it with pure gold and he made a gold molding for it all around he made a rim on the edge of the table of a hand breath all around and he made a golden molding for its rim all around now i think we have a picture of the table of showbread and this is only one artist's conception we don't know exactly what it looked like we do know that there were 12 loaves of bread that were put fresh loaves of bread that were always kept before the lord that represented the 12 tribes of israel and it's an interesting thing god wanted his people represented before him in his presence now remember the people of israel weren't allowed to go into the holy place only the priests were but he wanted them to know you are here you are in my presence always by the way the 12 loaves were identical though the tribes were all different in size judah was huge benjamin was tiny but they all got the same size loaf in other words you're all equal in my presence you all have equal standing you're all of equal value to me remember the the stones on the ephod member i like to talk about each one was a gemstone it wasn't like oh judah you're a diamond and then you're benjamin you're a dirt clod no there was none of that they were all precious different but precious and so the 12 loaves represent the 12 tribes of israel can we put the slide back on sorry um the rim that goes around is an interesting thing because this was designed to be carried obviously they're going through the wilderness and so it was available to be picked up and carried by the priests but god said i want a rim to be placed around it and that's important to understand because the table of show bread really represents christ let's go through a couple of these things the table was kind of the proof to his people that he's going to care for them jot down psalm 78 verse 19. this is what the children of israel said to god after they went into the wilderness they got hungry psalm 78 19 yea they spake against god king james they said can god furnish a table in the wilderness meaning can god feed us out here and of course we know he fed them for 40 years and so the table of showbread was an evidence to the jewish people when the when they were setting the tabernacle up every place the priest would show the fresh bread on the table and say look how god has blessed you look how god has provided for you it it was this symbol of god's provision but it was also the symbol of god's presence it's called by the way the table of the presence and the idea is that my people are always in my presence you might feel far from god this might be a while since you talked to him but guess what god's not far from you do you remember what paul said in the book of acts to the athenians yeah god's not that far away you might not feel close to him you may not have a close idea where he is but he's right there he's so close to you if you would just seek him you invite the bible says draw near to god and he'll he's actually already there you're not going to go anywhere that god's not already there buzz aldrin when he landed on the moon 1969 first moon landing they landed you know what he did it's not recorded because the news didn't tell us about it you know what he did he took out his out of his personal things chalice with wine and bread he was an elder in his church the first thing he wanted to do on the moon the first bread eaten on the moon the first drink liquid drunk on the moon was communion because he wanted to be with the lord upon the moon there's no here's what david said where can i go from your spirit where could i flee if i take the wings in the morning and i dwell in the remotest part of the sea even there you will find me and lay hold of me what does he mean take the wings in the morning that's we would say if i flew at the speed of light and i dwelt in the remotest part of the sea that's something that uh no jew in ancient world no person mostly today would have a clue what's down there who knows what's at the bottom of the sea uh israel didn't have a navy back in those days they didn't go under the water you could only go dive underwater for about 10 seconds and you got to come up for air but if i dwelt in the remotest part of the sea where no man can go ding ding ding i think his name was jonah that's where he repents at the depths of the sea even there your hand will lay hold of me i can't run away from you where could i run from you maybe you've been running from god now i've never understood the question when somebody says where can i run from god's like why would you run from god makes no sense he you'll never find anybody who will understand you like him you'll never find anybody who will be patient with you like he is you'll never find anybody who loves you more than he does that he has why are you running from god you do it to your own hurt he's the hound of heaven he'll keep chasing you but the fact is you'll never go anywhere but you are already in the presence of god i like what it says in psalm 23 you prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies god you provide for me all the time and i'm actually right before you put this down christ provides god's protection for all of his people i told you there's a rim around the table the bread represents god's people but there is a rim and it's interesting all the dimensions in the tabernacle are always the cubit cubit is from your elbow to the tip of your finger about 18 inches but not the rim the rim is not measured in cubits it's measured in hand's breath the distance of your hand an open hand why is that significant well jot down john 10 verses 28-30 john 10 jesus said i give eternal life to them and they shall never perish and no one shall snatch them out of my cubit no out of my hand my father who has given them to me is greater than all and no one is able to snatch them out of the father's hand i and the father are one jot down first peter 1 and verse 5. first peter 1 5 we are protected by the power of god through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time king james is we are kept this picture of this hand's breath what a beautiful picture of god's protection of us as his people saved in his presence we're not going to fall permanently you know my grandson jeffrey is getting pretty big now he doesn't need me to carry him thank god he's getting too heavy uh he can walk just fine i remind him of that when he wants me to carry i wish i could carry him but i can't right now because of my back but uh you know when i walk across the street i remind myself he doesn't look both ways so you know and it scares me because he's he doesn't think you know he thinks he's you know immortal and so when i go out i i don't i make him stop before we cross to go over to my car when i'm visiting him and i always hold his hand and you know he's safe not because he's holding my hand he's safe because i am holding his hand there are times he doesn't want to hold my hand it's like too bad you can wiggle all you want but you cannot wiggle out of my hand neither can you there is nothing that can separate you from the love of god including you including you you say well when i sin i said oh you can lose fellowship with god but he's got you by the hand you will never i think of peter in unbelief he starts sinking on the sea of galilee he's called the big fisherman in history he was a big guy okay and he only can eke out those few words lord save me as he's going down and the bible says jesus reached out his he stretched out his hand and he picked him out of the water jesus is mighty to save i don't know what you have done in your unbelief how far down you've gone but jesus christ will take you by the hand jot down jude verse 24 jude verse 24. now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of his glory blameless with great joy that's who god is that's who jesus is psalm 37 23 and 24 the steps of a man are established by the lord he delights in his ways when he falls it doesn't say you'll never fall when not if you fall you will not be hurled headlong because the lord is the one who holds his hand what a beautiful picture of god's protection of us put this down the third fill in the third furnishing put in the word lead lead me and here we see god's divine revelation as we come to the menorah and so let's take a picture or two take a look at the minor i know i gave you a slide a little later can you guys put that on the screen so we at least take a look at it there it is okay it's a seven branch menorah and uh jot down psalm 16 11 if you would psalm 16 11 thou wilt make known to me the path of life david said now when we come to the menorah we need to remember some things about the tabernacle in the holy place there was no um artificial light and by the way there was no natural light i mean meaning by that there was no there were no windows except for the light of the menorah except for god's light if you will there is no natural light there it's really important to understand that um by the way there is something we need to understand about light that is outside the realm of science when it comes to god you can discover this in the book of genesis in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth earth was formless and void darkness was over the surface of the waters spirit of god was hovering over the waters and then god said let there be what light but that is not the light of the sun how do i know that because it won't be created for a few days that was not the light of the moon it wasn't the light of the stars it was something else okay god created light supernaturally you say well what was that well we do know this we know god is light james says and in him there is no darkness at all we know that jesus coming into this world is the light of the world that lightens every man it's we're talking about a spiritual level of light the bible says this that those who love the lord come to him so that the their deeds can be exposed because they're doing what's right but evil men do not want to get into god's presence why because he's liked and they don't want their evil deeds to be exposed i i've shared this before when i was a police officer in la habra i saw a graveyard shift one of my jobs it's my job was to go to the parks make sure there wasn't you know people doing anything wrong especially in the terms of drugs drug dealing and drug selling um or any other kind of evil behavior after the parks closed so we'd go out there and they close at 10 we check it at 12 or at 2 o'clock and there was just one park where some bad people would do some bad stuff so i would always come in in my police car totally blacked out cop cars you can push a button you have no brake lights they don't come on there's no running lights i mean just totally black and then we had you know spotlights these spotlights were actually aircraft landing lights i mean they are extremely bright i think you could probably burn a hole through somebody if you just put it on there and there they'll blind you but um and then we have side lights that are built into the car so there's lots of lights on a police car but i would black out the car i would gas it to where i could turn the engine off and just go in running on the engines off so there's no sound at all i mean i'm running on silent neutral just totally blacked out and then i would turn on all my lights as i would get to where they were hanging out you know it might be 30 25 30 guys there and they didn't hear me coming and i just like to watch because it was just like cockroaches i'm not kidding you they would run in every possible direction terrified it's like see that's what the bible says people who are doing evil do not come to the light lest their evil deeds will be exposed god created light a reflection of who he is by the way in second corinthians it says the god who said let light shine out of darkness which is talking about that verse in genesis is the one who is shown in our hearts by putting christ into our lives in other words my life was that dark place godless place but christ has come to live inside of me the light of life you see it's not just talking about ambient light that kind of like it's something far beyond that but the menorah represents the light of god the revelation of god and it is in his light that we see things we get to see things the way they are we discover what they are look at verse 17 i just want to point this out then he made the lampstand of pure gold he made the lambstand of what hammered work put this down he is the light of god hammered for us hammered for us jesus said the people hate the light and they hated him he said they hate me because i testify to them that their deeds are evil you know sometimes i think on the one hand we're to love people and not we're to hate the sin and love the sinner that's true but at the same time we are to expose evil and they're going to be people who don't like you maybe you're not even going to say anything to them about their lifestyle or about their their values or views but they're just going to see that you aren't like them and they don't like the they're they're going to feel condemned and feel guilty like you're judging them when you've said nothing i was telling a friend of mine a police officer i used to work with and i talked we haven't seen each other in years we were talking about when we were out in the police department i had a lieutenant back then lieutenant jones great lieutenant but angry and he was angry at at the chief and the chief of police was a christian and i'll never forget when i started working there the lieutenant called me into his office and he said you know i can't i can't handle this chief of police i go why i mean i like this chief you know and he goes he's trying to shove god down everybody's throat and i said i haven't seen i've always said to people who use that expression how do you do that actually i would love to know how anyway uh and i said what do you mean he goes what do i mean he said have you looked at our our policy manual i go yeah we're all issued this massive policy man you're supposed to read it and he said if you looked at it i said yeah let me show you he brings me over to the policy manual and he opens it up and there's the first page inside of it it has romans 13 verse 1. romans 13 verse 1 is the verse that says there is no authority except from god all authority exists has been given by god romans 13 1 that's what it said the chief the new chief he's allowed to do whatever he wants with everything and he decided he would want that in the manual he goes do you see this i go that's it he's trying to shove god down our throats there is this incredible capacity for you're judging me when all we're doing is living out our faith people feel condemned and guilty the bible says man suppresses the truth in unrighteousness in other words you're doing stuff you shouldn't be doing and so you don't want to hear the truth and so you're finding fault with it but there in the holy place the light of god provides for us revelation and illumination put this down god reveals light through his word through his word now let's go back to the menorah on the screen and in our text it mentions not only the golden hammered work it's pure gold by the way it's not a case you would like everything else overlaid this is pure gold probably the most valuable expensive part of any of the furnishings but there were built into it in gold molded into it almond blossoms okay and this is significant let's leave that on the screen for just a couple moments well i know we can't do because we need to put on this verse jeremiah 1 verses 11 and 12. jeremiah is a young man god says i've called you to preach jeremiah says i'm too young they're not going to listen to me and god says no listen don't stop saying that i'm gonna use you okay and uh so jeremiah is saying you know i i don't know what to say and god says well i'll put my words into your mouth so what's your excuse now yeah i'm gonna put my words in your mouth so you have to figure that out but in jeremiah 1 11 and 12 here's what happened and the word of the lord came to me jeremiah said and god said what do you see at jeremiah and jeremiah said i see a rod of a almond tree sound familiar then the lord said to me you have seen well for why i am watching over my word to perform it the almond br the almond is related to my word now that's a fascinating thing to me and literally in the hebrew i am watching over my word to hasten it or to make it come to pass quickly by the way the almond tree is considered the resurrection tree when you go to israel when we go in february you'll see them because actually the almond tree blossoms in january most trees wait till spring not the elementary it's the first to come back to life it comes back to life early and it's considered the resurrection tree but it's also tied to god's word according to jeremiah 1 11 and 12. we went over this in detail we're just going to briefly touch on it if you're new and didn't hear it the almond blossoms are on the menorah there are three parts of each one of them the bud and the cups and i won't get into the details except to say this seven branches on the menorah three on the left three on the right each of the ones on the left and the right have three sets of almond blossoms three sets of three there's three parts therefore there are nine elements on each branch of the menorah the center branch has not three but four sets of three or twelve you say huh what who cares okay stay with me if you add up all the elements of these things that are related to the word of god well you can do the math how many do you have if you break it down each of those there's three six nine okay right and then nine nine nine nine nine nine so nine times 54 right last time i checked plus 12. 66. now what's interesting about the number 66 well that's how many books of the bible we have that's just coincidence i don't think coincidence is a kosher word according to the orthodox jews it's interesting there's actually 39 from the center to the left and 27 which is exactly the breakdown of the old testament and the new testament fascinating to me whether or not you think that's significant the fact is the menorah reveals the light of god and we do know this about scripture that's exactly what the bible says about itself jot down ii timothy 3 verses 16 and 17. all scripture is given by god by inspirations god breathed and is profitable for doctrine for reproof for correction for instruction and righteousness that the man of god may be perfect thoroughly what oh yeah furnished unto all good works jot down psalm 119 105 you probably know this verse thy word is a lamp sound from there to my feet and a light to my path and proverbs 6 23 says the same thing the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light and reproofs for discipline are the way of life and so we see god reveals divine light for our life through his word and then number three the light from god's word is pure gold according to this text this light fixture that produces god's revelation it's pure gold psalm 19 verse 10 psalm 19 verse 10 says god's word god's laws they are more desirable than gold yes than much fine gold then put down letter d finally we come to the incense altar and put this down hear me hear me and then put down divine intercession now the altar of incense is a smaller piece of furniture inside the tabernacle inside the holy place right in front of the veil that led to the holy of holies i think we have a slide that shows a picture of what the altar of incense looks like in this case uh it's a place where at the evening offering incense would be offered it was sweet smelling and it would cause a smoke of a fragrant smell to arise out of the tabernacle later in the temple and rise up to heaven you could see it from a long way off if you were approaching jerusalem and the bible talks about this this incense offering as being that which is pleasing to god a fragrant offering to god put this down christ's fragrant intercession is well pleasing to god and so you might say this is a picture of christ's prayers of christ praying of that which is burning and ascending to heaven it's acceptable to god jot down hebrews 5 and verse 7 in the days of his flesh jesus offered up both prayers and supplications with loud cryings and tears to the one able to save him from death and he was heard because of his piety of course every one of christ's prayers was heard because he always did what was pleasing to god but here's the important thing to understand christ is accepted his offering to god is accepted christ's acceptance however is our acceptance the bible says in ephesians we are accepted in the beloved my acceptance to god is not how well i did today it never has been it'll only be christ's finished work that allows me to be accepted by god so in a sense the idea is this if jesus is my acceptance i know that i am pleasing to god that's why at the baptism you'll hear me always say what god says about christ at his baptism you need to hear god saying to you this is my beloved son well then i'm his beloved son you're his beloved daughter because you're in christ you see when god declares that about christ and you're in christ what's true of christ is true of you if i take out a business card and i put it in my bible and i mail the bible to the other side of the planet to china where's the business card it's in the bible wherever the bible goes if you're in christ you everything that's his belongs to you everything that he's done it's like you've earned it you've earned none of it but by grace you have been given it so christ's acceptance is yours and so when peter is going to fall remember he thinks he'll die for jesus well he will later but he thinks he'll die for jesus this weekend the rest may forsake you i'll never forsake you and jesus says peter before the morning you're going to deny me three times and then jesus said this satan has desired to sift you like we i don't think i'd want jesus to tell me that i mean i really don't because here's the thing in the original language it would read more like this satan has desired and been given permission to sift you likely it's kind of like the book of joke satan can't do anything to you except god signs off on it sorry peter god said enough on this one he's going to sift you like weak but then jesus said but after you've turned it's like oh i didn't even know i was going to fall away but at least i'm going to turn i'm going to get converted i'm going to come back strengthen your brethren and then he said but i have prayed for you those are the most comforting words in the world jesus you're praying for me and everything you pray for god gives because a lot the things i pray for i don't get i'm not always sure i'm in the will of god but jesus you pray and when you pray you pray the will of god and so if if you're praying for me that's all i need to know the brazen altar in the courtyard is a picture of the cross it's a picture of christ suffering for us and receiving our judgment the mercy seat is the picture of the place of the atoning blood of the offering of christ that was accepted for our pardon but the altar of incense pictures christ listen to me his current work in heaven not his past work 2000 years ago but his current work right now jot down hebrews 7 and verse 25 here's what it says hence also christ is able to save forever those who draw near to god through him since he always lives to do what to make intercession for us you have that great hymn my hope is in the lord who gave himself for me and paid the price of all my sin at calvary for me he died but for me he lives and everlasting life and light he freely gives no merit of mine own his anger to suppress my only hope is found in jesus righteousness and now for me he stands before the father's throne he shows his wounded hands and names me as his own christ is interceding for you tonight he's praying for you when nobody else is you always have so we used to sing a song somebody's praying i can feel it you know what i don't know if anybody else was praying for me but i know jesus is you can know jesus and by the way if you only get one person to pray let it be jesus okay so he's not only our savior from god he's our savior to god jot down second corinthians 2 15 we are believers in christ are a fragrance of christ to god among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing jot down ephesians 5 2 ephesians 5 2 walk in love just as christ also loved you and gave himself up for us an offering and a sacrifice to god as a fragrant aroma and our last verse psalm 141 verse 2 may my prayer be counted as incense before thee god the lifting up of my hands as the evening offering look at the last verse of the chapter it says bezalel he made the holy anointing oil and the pure fragrant incense of spices the work of a perfumer now i said he's a type of christ this bezalel this one who is of the tribe of judah this one who was filled with the spirit this one was filled with wisdom knowledge and understanding to build which is who jesus christ is he was filled and he also not only was able to build all of that the tabernacle furnishes which is all the person work of christ representing but he also made the holy anointing oil holy anointing oil was to anoint the priesthood jesus said it is to your advantage that i go away for if i do not go away the helper will not come but if i go away i will ask the father and he will send you another helper the holy spirit of promise you see our bezel he has created an anointing when you come to christ you already have it he wants to anoint you for the work of living for him the power of the holy spirit is available to you it's yours and it comes from christ all you have to do is ask for a refill refills are free remember and he also was the one who made the incense that which allows the prayers of the saints to arise remember jesus said if you ask anything in my name it'll happen for you what does that mean well if i just say in jesus name i want a new let's see in jesus name no it's not the abracadabra word of the bible it means you're praying as though you were him it means you're praying for that which will glorify him it means you look at how he prayed and you pray like him father this is what i want but i'm always going to put an asterisk on every prayer if i want to pray like jesus prayed it has to be this is what i want prefer think would be best but nevertheless not my will be done you can have every single prayer you pray from now until you're in glory answered in the affirmative if you'll pray like that well i don't pray that i would pray you want to pray in jesus name you see if we ask anything according to his will he hears us and if he hears us we have the requests that we've made of god listen god wants to answer your prayers and i'm not saying he doesn't want to give you what you want the fact is you need to realize many of the desires he's placed in your heart because he wants to give you those things i know sometimes we want things that god doesn't want us out i get it oh lord please let this scratch or be the one probably not probably not he's going sorry i love you too much to ruin your life tonight but here's the thing when you realize that he loves you and wants to give you what he can do and wants to do exceedingly abundantly beyond what you ask her i think he's hoping you'll ask ask meg it doesn't offend god you let us go you want what who do you think you are no it's not like that the story is told in napoleon that after a battle one particular soldier that had acted valiantly had been promoted and uh napoleon says in fact what do you what would you like i wanna i wanna reward you and he said ah i'd like to have this island over there that napoleon had conquered and the other general said that's ridiculous that's guy so he had supported it and napoleon said no no no he honors me by the size of his request he thinks i'm that gracious give it to him can i tell you something god is waiting for you to have faith to ask him but ask according to his will ask in jesus name always saying lord if
