WE PLANTED PEAS USING WHAT???

how do you feel about getting your first vegetables of the years planted it's about time good morning everybody how you doing today my name's andrew i'm becky i'm dad i'm daniel hi i'm matt i'm tracy hi i'm ralph and we're some of the veggie boys and girls and we'd like to thank you for stopping by put me on foot control ralph skadoosh now these girls are a well-oiled machine we've got to keep them stocked up we're going to get some trays filled for them so i didn't know you won the marigold [Music] hey everyone in our previous video we were getting everything set up for the girls as they were going to start planting marigolds in greenhouse number five let me tell you the girls have been working their tails off let me show you how much they've got done the normal thing on our farm is there's so many people doing so many different jobs that it's hard to keep track my dad right now is spreading some more fertilizer and my little brother daniel he is out disking now dad wants these perennials taken up top so we can start selling them at the farm market so that means we got to take off our makeshift door i know it's a big sad moment but we got to do what we got to do [Music] we got our first wagon pulled up the reason why we're taking this stuff out of that greenhouse it is way too warm first of all you can see we're starting to blossom already we want to wait two weeks before this stuff really starts to push out and we got some butterfly bushes over there they're starting to blossom so we're trying to get these things to hold off just for two more weeks time to fix lunch i gotta go now this is an exciting time we're actually starting to move some plants up for sales now we're only moving up one tray of each thing we've got some kohlrabi broccoli cabbage each of the coal crops we're going to be taking up to the farm market [Music] the customers are going to be really excited when they see these vegetable plants out here where'd you get your license i have a bubblegum machine i never in my life saw such driving [Music] okay we're down in our very cluttered potato storage we've got a lot of things moved in here we got a lot of pots for the greenhouse but we also have some seed potatoes it's not really easy to find seed potatoes in our local area so we always sell them in the farm market so we're going to take a bag of each up and we're going to put them out for our customers so we have three varieties we have norwich dark red norland and eva these are the three potato varieties that we plant out in the field and these are the ones we got a few extra just to sell them in the farm market [Music] [Music] getting all the fertilizer off my stuff so most of the people that watch know that every time we water we're applying fertilizer now the neat thing about these machines are that you can turn a couple valves and then you're no longer applying fertilizer that's why we're able to spray off the tractor and then immediately come in and start watering flowers you have to move two valves and you go from not fertilizing to now fertilizing temperature is 90 degrees no wonder i'm sweating [Music] beautiful yes sir so we've got two big crops for us that we're gonna be planting today the first one is gonna be oats so we got our seed drill out that's what we'll be using for our oats and the second thing is we're gonna be planting peas oh you know guy you guys know i hate peas i mean they're delicious but they're just horrible to pick i mean oh now this machine here you can use it to plant soybeans wheat rye oats and commonly you have mice that build nests in here because there's always residual oats or there's residual grains that they love to eat i see absolutely no mice nests so that's uh very interesting so all we got to do is grease her up now the interesting thing is with this machine you can also plant peas however we use our corn planter to plant our pieces very interesting you can use a corn planter for a lot of things the reason why we don't use this for peas as you can see these discs is where the seed would fall down now the problem is they are way too close together it would be okay if you were picking with a machine but for us we hand picked them and we'd be walking over all of the rows so that's why we like our peas to be a little wider apart so these are the oats that we got they're certified oats usually a lot of farmers will just clean their own oats and replant them now we didn't have enough oats to do that we used them all for our animals we didn't save any and we like the certified seed it's a little cleaner it doesn't plug up our drill so all we're going to be doing is dumping these bags in and then daniel's going to be good to go [Music] [Music] the only reason we really plant oats is because we feed them to our cows so this is going to be all stuff that we later will be grinding for our animals if you have not seen our shop lately it is full of pioneer seed corn and beans and we need to start moving this stuff out for customers [Music] so my job is to look at this piece of paper and it tells me what seed we are so it says p.o 84 3am so i have to search for that number and then there's a batch number and i have to look at this paper and find the batch number and match those up my dad sells to about 30 different farmers so some of the seed comes all on one pallet and then we have to unstack it onto separate pallets which is what we're doing now smells nice out silage right there very sweet smelling uh very exciting times delivering seed corn nobody wanted their seed corn and then we had three sunny days in a row and now everybody wants their seed we corn planting peas today so we planted uh six rows of shell peas and now we're cleaning out so we can do two rows of sugar snap peas one row snow peas now this is our brand new six row corn planter that obviously you can plant peas with so we don't plant too many peas we hand pick all of them i absolutely despise picking peas they may taste delicious but if you have ever had to hand pick peas it's not worth it do you feel about getting your first vegetables of the years planted it's about time something that's pretty interesting daniel has to go over those same rows i think three times to get the population that we need need to plant p is a little higher population than what the planter can do so he just has to go over that row one more time then it should be good that's how you can tell time is really moving got the vegetable plants up here to sell daniel is planting peas in the field time is moving along quickly i don't know what it is you move a couple pallets of seed corn around and you tend to have a lot more room in your shop now i can do things these are cuttings that the girls are going to be putting into four-inch pots i wasn't sure exactly what we've got but cali's is what they are are you getting your own cali pretty soon we always plant flowers every year if that's what you're talking about in the store i have no idea gonna start that dirt mixing out dad had mentioned aunt bonnie's gonna need pots for tomorrow to fill these into um so we're gonna use the cookie monster we're gonna get a nice sizable stack just filled up here for her we ran into a little bit of a problem we don't these are the last of the flood trays that we have so we're going to be putting them in the trays that we use for our 806s it'll be a little more of a pain but we're going to work with what we have it shouldn't take too too long everybody is here but this might add a little bit of time to it this sucks they're fine once the dirt gets in them yeah we just got into the house and lauren has dinner on the table she's gonna explain to you what we're having we are
