We flew a drone INSIDE a Smokestack | Cementland | Saint Louis

hey it's ken and steven hey guys we're in st louis at cement land it's a very interesting and sad tale about a man named bob cassily bob was an artist and he died in 2011 under mysterious circumstances at first they thought that a bulldozer had fallen on him and killed him but in 2016 they determined that it was in fact murder possibly possibly they think he might have been beaten to death by his business partner allegedly allegedly there's not enough concrete evidence to prove either see what i yeah okay [Music] oh there it is there's the castle nice so this place would have been a thing had bob not been allegedly murdered that's true that would have been really cool i would love to see it put together well we have to go in the castle for a minute okay well they have both of them here both and ass now this bridge seems sturdy yeah but i think we're gonna run into a couple that aren't well there used to be one this is one of the ones i'm talking about this should be one right there that goes that structure but it's gone oh the one with the straps yeah that's what i wanted to go over it got burned down about a month ago oh and the spiral staircase is gone too that's a shame however this is a good place to fly the stack okay let's go for it oh man this place is just a wonderland i gotta go under you there's any scraggle that's right [Music] cement land was intended to be a public park slash art exhibit bob cassily who also created by the way st louis city museum had cement land planned only in his head and not on paper sadly this means we'll never get to see what his ultimate vision was for this now crumbling and dangerous ruin the castley family had initially planned on continuing construction on the park but after a fire in 2014 those plans were put on hold and this is a wonderland of recyclables yeah you could say that so we look at it as an abandoned cool place to fly drones and everything but other people look at this as a source of income this place is a magnet for explorers photographers and kids who like breaking stuff and although the no trespassing signs are not clearly visible this is private property and close to the public a fact that we learned in a most hilarious way when we tried to leave more on that later but first oh we got the sun out now perfect so we're gonna make our way up to there uh-huh oh just the noise i love these noises oh it goes in more it's like a cement turducken this the way this is very steampunk isn't it this whole place it sure is with the gears and oh here we go huh door number one or door number two what do you think um i'll say number two oh i wouldn't go in there stephen i'm going don't do it oh my goodness what do you see i see flight paths look at this oh my man oh all right steve i think it's only polite to let you go first okay and test the stairs out see this out thank you your hometown everything i mean i don't want to be thank you i'll be the guinea pig yeah i mean no not guinea pigs so much as i know that's what it is stair tester person okay yeah all right i'm sure it's fine so far so good all right how are those that was good yeah i feel pretty good so far all right how's the railing situation uh i'm depending on it so okay what's that artist that has all the stairs that are going upside down and which way what's that artist oh i'll put that on the screen yeah yeah that's hardest i was thinking of this is crazy more steps this too many steps oh this was somebody's station here look looked it oh man can you imagine working in a place like this not really and your job is to i don't know grease the widget wizards hey larry did you grease the wizzy widgets yeah yeah yeah i did lost my thumb but it's greased [Laughter] oh look no way oh no way this is so perfect oh this is awesome i think we're at the top almost definitely right at the top and this is the only place that has a railing so that's good yeah we need that and the railing is super sturdy so that's good nice nice [Music] let's turn around show us real quick so this is where we are hello us [Music] oh i definitely want to go in that that little hallway thing if the signal will it's going to poop out it's not pooping out great i'm gonna go out of this now oh my goodness yeah nice now let's see if i can go before this battery dies go in this window right by my head now i'll go over this one people here there's people here yeah where right in front of us oh they're exploring too are they good oh my god oh my god dude oh now let's see if i can go the length of the hallway oh the dust i'm kicking up so much dust so much dust in there i see it i can see it coming out the other end you can see that coming out the windows oh that's crazy is it blowing out the windows it is are you getting on the camera yeah wow it's nuts is it it's still going great the visual feast now let's see if i can come out the window oh yeah now where are those people they are where we were exploring before past this stack are they up top on the thing yes go above that and to the left okay oh they're up on that yeah do i have enough for one more no i don't i'm at three four i gotta land i gotta land or crash oh that was so awesome come on up come on [Music] [Laughter] now you can breathe many of you are watching this wondering why didn't we try flying down the big stack well i'm not a good enough fpv pilot to attempt to dive that high and then right out through a door so we thought a safer option would be to send a gps drone with obstacle avoidance up and out the top easy peasy right well oh dude oh my goodness oh oh yes it is nice oh this is so great look at that it's a clear shot what do you think man i like it steven yes sir here's my idea we take a drone your drone and my drone yeah and we fly it straight up all the way through and out the top what do you think okay we do that with your drone we can't do it with a fpv drone because i'm not that good i would have to gun it i mean look if there's any st louis fpv people and you've done this please contact me here and let me know because i want to come back out here with you and see you do it again but right now we're going to use steven's drone all right all right are we sure really yes okay it was at this moment he knew he might be buying a mavic air too i mean it looks like it tapers and it does a little bit but it's far wider than the drone is yeah but i don't know what the distance for the obstacle avoidance would be like if it'll just stop before going up you know i think so i think it would stop yeah good all right now before we go just know this was all your idea yeah they'll give you one camera say another one okay good luck are you getting any obstacle warnings not yet oh my god you're doing it oh my god you're doing it oh we're good we're good oh my god careful careful no no no no no careful careful oh [ __ ] [ __ ] what happened what happened i guess it blew it's okay i owe you a drone it's okay man are you sad i'm not sad i'm just pissed it didn't work it looked like it was working it's okay though it's okay they caught a bunch of wind yeah up through the tunnel probably some wacky wind up there um are you still recording is it yeah oh let this be a lesson if you film a video with me don't listen to my ideas you're such a bad influence i am a bad influencer i'm gonna buy you a new drone okay all right and just when we thought things couldn't get any worse we had a bit of a surprise waiting for us when we tried to leave so st louis full of jokesters apparently um we parked here off the road to get to cement land right yep and uh steven you noticed something i did let's go check it out big freaking log in the middle of the road they locked they logged us in and not only did they put the log there but they covered it up with stuff so uh leverage to the rescue and while we're macgyvering our way out of this situation a city cop pulls up and gives us an earful okay the signs on the fence say no trespass oh i'm i'm from tennessee i i didn't see any sign but uh so some knucklehead thought it'd be funny to trap us in here no we had we got called down here oh you did yes we did we had another vehicle that was also down here that they ended up getting arrested oh okay yeah it was the st louis street department that trapped us in there i don't know what their endgame was but had we known it was privately owned we certainly would have gotten permission and we will do that next time turns out the cop was pretty cool about the whole thing and even helped us move the pole well i'm glad that it wasn't practical jokers [Laughter] that's good news yes yes what a day what a day crazy the graffiti is really nice whoever did this man they took their time that's nice hey steven yes sir this is pretty cool i like it oh my god oh it is awesome where do we set up so i just ordered a new mavic air 2 for steven a boop processing and a new one will be to stephen in four days well that's it man that was a fun day that was incredible we didn't get kicked out we didn't break an arm we didn't get tetanus yeah we got some great footage for you awesome thanks for
