hi everyone today we're super excited because we're trying some real authentic filipino food for the first time yay i've never tried any filipino food except jollibee so i'm super excited to try this place out i'm hungry i'm always happy you're always hungry yes what they mean let's go we've gotta go eat we're at gj's grill trying out filipino food in melbourne let's see what they have let's go oh yes welcome to the philippines and the rice fields so may we wanted to go to the philippines last year but unfortunately with the circumstances we cannot so this is the closest we'll ever get to philippines so welcome to chinese days philippine vlogs today wow thank you how beautiful are you fantastic can we also check out some waterfalls in the philippines because that will be great i think really popular in melbourne we traveled out to the city that is the closest good filipino restaurant i think that's why we've never tried filipino food before because we don't have a filipino restaurant close by yeah all right so let's see the menu here we've got a quarter chicken with rice some skewers a boneless bangus what is a bangers guys you got skewers you've got salmon belly soup oh interesting you got a small or a large la chan we are going to order the quarter chicken with rice we've got to get the skewers because this place is all about their grill i want to see them skewers grilling we're going to get some lachon oh i want to try the beef as well what is that it's a beef tapa with rice okay let's grab this let's grab this let's grab the skewers we'll grab the chicken should we try this what is it i don't know what it is and the boneless bangus is it a fish it looks like a fish oh here it is this is the whole boneless bangus which is a fish as you can see it's like a flat fish grilled with onions chili herbs whole bunch of things incredible look at that it's just a bowl of crispy pork skin i want that i think it's pretty straightforward we'll just be like this this this this think of any match so six separate items comes down to 96 dollars a little bit on the pricey end but hopefully it is worth it yes that is true yeah we've never tried filipino food before so we don't know what the average price is yeah so maybe this is okay and possibly ordered a whole fish yes we did which costs 30. we went for that full bangers they sold a quarter bangers but we know bango bang hard all right and we went for that full bangers 20 dollars excuse me i'm talking about a fish so baby what do you know about the philippines they have jollibee i'm pretty sure everyone knows that and they have very friendly people and amazing singers everyone can see what i know about the philippines i know that a whole bunch of filipino youtubers are great singers and used to kill it back in the og days they only have one filipino friend but he is a great friend because he invited me to his house and his mother cooked me a filipino feast and i had i had real authentic filipino pasta for the first time and that was crazy better than jollibee better than any other pasta it was very sweet full of uh sausages full of delicious sauce it was amazing and ever since then i've always wanted filipino food i've always wanted to visit philippines big shout out to our filipino fans i love you so we're here now with our beautiful cook lin and she's cooking this delicious yeah filipino food look at that so much going on right now so then what is this one over here that's the meat ah the beef wow look at that egg under a whole bunch of oils yeah and then we want the good cooking of the egg yeah just make it float ah oil and the skewers in the back there wow plain really fantastic that's a really good technique i've never done that before a whole bunch of oil chop the egg in and let it rise to the top and that's when you know it's cooked it smells bright food has arrived this is the beef tapa and also here this delicious grilled chicken with rice garlic rice with crispy skin lachon we have these pork skewers and here is the main course a giant fish the bangus you got some sort of salad slash pickle and also this brown mysterious sauce from the philippines these pork skewers i'm not sure what the filipino name for it is but it must be delicious it must translate to delicious because that's what i'm getting right now you've got a whole bunch of oil dripping oozing out of the meat and you can smell that flame grill i've heard a lot about the gj's grill covered in filipino aromas and flavors and now this is my first time trying out a filipino skewer cheers oh wow the meat is quite delicious a lot of flavor a lot of saltiness to it i'm going to dip it into this sauce this mysterious brown sauce i'm not sure what it is but it looks very very interesting thick inconsistency i'm not sure you're supposed to do this but that doesn't matter this is what it's all about the skewer itself comes down to 11 dollars which for me is a little pricey as uh yeah it's just like four little pieces of pork that's why i want to dip into this oh wow that's good what is this like a very mild type of sauce guys if you know what that is please let us know because it actually complements the skewers really well this is really salty barbecue skewer when you dip it into this sauce it kind of evens it out and i'm liking that a lot more selena's gonna try her grilled chicken that's really good i am so excited to try this that quarter chicken looks oh so juicy and i got garlic rice as well when she gave me the option of garlic rice or white rice i was like don't do garlic rice cheese [Music] filipino chicken rice riser really good look at it you just got a whole bunch of that juicy juice we only got one chicken so i think we need to order another chicken it's like a sweet soy glazed skin and the chicken is just cooked so well it's just so juicy and when you bite into it the juices just flow into your bodies with the skin and it's just a really good chicken very awesome i'm sweating bullets in here i don't know what it is it must be the 30 degree heat but it really does feel like the philippines and it's probably the heat coming from the grill too all right let's go chicken not bad sweet marinated well good flavors very juicy and soft that's the most important part inside it's very soft i'm happy with that it is now time to try out the signature dish for me when i think of the philippines i think of elechan i think of myself good old lechoni look at that i know that's just going to be an asmr dream that's gonna crunch so well and a lot of layers of fat too it's very different to your traditional chinese kind of crispy pork the colors are different um it's juicy the pork is like a different kind of fat too cheers [Music] definitely a big highlight just the amount of fats in that it's just so indulgent it's so good i love it so because this is very oily very fatty i think it needs to go with this sauce and this sauce before a little bit sweet i don't even know how to describe these flavors because it's something i've never tried before but that is a nice experience in itself so this lechon piece has the sauce it's got the pickles [Music] the crispy pork is on another level listen i've always compared the lachon in the philippines with like a chinese suckling pig and i've always thought like what's the point of trying it out it looks exactly the same is it going to be the same no it's not it was on a completely different level of pork lachan i always knew if i ever ate myself i would be delicious i mean think of all the food i've had over the years this is the same thing this is incredible it's crispy on the outside but inside so fatty and juicy alma just like me i've got a hard exterior but inside i'm just a fat soft boy very light crackle almost like those pork crackles you get in the chip packet it's like that on the outside but inside that really fat juicy almost braised pork belly like another moment where i am just in food heaven right now i'm a really big fan of fish the bangers here it's got a chili on top spring onions diced tomatoes red onion marinated in some sort of clear oily sauce this came down to twenty dollars it's pretty cheap you can only imagine how cheap these foods are in the philippines there you go look at that got that dark meat got that light meat and also you can hear some of that filipino music filipina instrumentals in the background and now this is the real experience of the philippines i'm already there i see you trying the bangers fish now definitely a tough fish you can tell by the dark meat of that fish it's not that fluffy a bit of a bite you gotta chew into it a little bit and very salty as well i think filipino really like their saltiness in their food very flavorful but salty mix in some of the salad with that fish i think that's the reason for all these goodies on top of it is because you're supposed to eat it together tomato gonna get some of that fish there you go okay yeah a little bit better for me that is a strange tasting flavor and fish definitely something i've never tried before and i don't even know what to compare it to so this skin is more like very tough and crispy yeah and i'm not i've never been a really big fan of deep frying fish steamed fish is always my way to go with some soy sauce like a chinese fish a chinese steamed fish oh my god in hong kong the best thing ever so delane is going to have a piece of the bangers now try out that fish oh yeah what do you think i like it nice i get what you mean by salty but that's the flavor they're going for so when you eat it with rice it balances each other out anything deep fried is good well i'm look at that marinated in a sauce got some onions spring onion let's go oh wow it's really chewy but the flavors are really nice it's like sweet salty citrusy it's almost like a beef jerky kind of consistency that's what i'm getting it's like a beef jerky very salty very tough flavorful but you get that jerky taste but i love this flavor oh really no because you don't like salty food no i don't yes i love salty food yeah so i think i love filipino food more than you my favorite things were the chicken however that chicken to me is like very similar to other asian restaurants when it comes to a piece of chicken yeah soft inside sweet on the outside grilled pretty well i feel like this is very simple and i don't know if this is like real filipino food because you know it's just like a piece of chicken and rice and you can get that in chinese or vietnamese or anywhere as well they do yes crispy chicken or rice but i feel like this is what filipino food is all about and i really like it my number one here would definitely be the letron something i didn't expect i thought it was just going to be another piece of pork but it is it's on a whole new level what can i say about this experience is it's been very pleasant new flavors a lot of surprises yes i think i like the fish the vanguards i don't usually eat fish but i really like the style of fish the body oh no don't swallow the bone you know when i was nine years old i ate fish too fast and i swallowed a bone this big stuck in my throat and i had to go to the hospital for two days and it gave me this kind of yellow weird strange drink that tastes horrible but it kind of burnt down the fish and letting the fish let it slide down i still have nightmares about that really every time i swallowed the bone would stab my throat and i cried for like a whole day my dad had that that's another reason why i don't eat fish and that's another reason why you should scoff down your food so fast but i still do it because i'm a fan but you're gonna know that this fish isn't tough top it's just the texture is not soft and i feel like they're not used to that it's not a tough fish it's actually a pretty good fish oh and this is quite different but it's just the texture oh no wow look at this i did not expect this like if we go into the center of the fish i think it's fattier it's delicious that is just a layer of fat on top of that meat that's delicious since trying filipino food for the first time today i'm open to trying more now oh yes i'm impressed i want to try different lachanze in different areas of the philippines in one word describe how each dish makes you feel right so the chicken how's it making good warm what about the bean confused interesting sensual or out-of-body experience although that's not one word well i wish to have like they provided a small soup with all the dishes yeah yeah cause i think that will help oh they did have another dish which was a salmon belly soup but because we already got this fish that's more than enough for seafood we're gonna order it but they said it's like a really big serving so we decided to but this place is next to queen victoria market it's in a little alleyway but you should better find it if i'm craving filipino food i'll come back for the chicken but i think i'd like to try other filipino restaurants just to see what else is out there because this is the first stop so i'd like to see what else they have it's just a lot of flavor guys it's salty but it's like the good kind of salt hey luke i was just wondering what what sauce is this yeah oh okay i love the bowl amazing that's the best because that's cooked on charcoals interesting yeah you can really taste this is this something like is this a traditional filipino dish yes it's yes that's better combination actually and how about the chicken what what what's this type of chicken it's in a salad ah okay and what's that glaze on top of that it's actually marinated marinated yes it's grilled as well ah yes i see that do you like the fish too yes the fish is good the fish is really good it's like new flavors yes it's really fresh flavor but um it's just not spicy it could have been food it's not right yeah that is correct yeah well thanks for that yeah thank you so much so filipino food is not spicy they don't really like their spiciness and that is also maybe why they compensate with other flavors um such as the saltiness such as more oils and more flavors from that so good stuff filipino food wow and that was our first time eating authentic filipino food in melbourne oh wow what an interesting experience the food was really good and that lechon oh my god it's so good wow i'll be dreaming about and i can't wait for the day that i come to the philippines to try out your lachon guys i'm coming soon i thought it was delicious everything was really good although it was new flavors to me i still really enjoyed it i've never tried other filipino food before so i have nothing to compare to but this one made me
